tamil culture and daughter

Having lived in different parts of india, I have
been exposed to various cultures. One thing stands
out about tamil culture is the treatment given
to daughter vis-a-vis son. I find that daughters
are generally apple of the eye of the parents.
The care and affection which maternal grandparents
show to their grandchildren is something unique.
Contrast this to north indians where daughters are
considered a burden and after marriage little
interest is shown in them by their parents.
Has it been observed by others too.

Rangachari, you are talking like an all time stupid Tamilian, I think you are generalising. You must know female homicides are one of the highest in country. It all depends on the economic status and other social factors, May be you got opportunity to see other slums more than the worst slums of Tamilnadu.

"You must know female homicides are one of the highest in country"
Where in Rajastan or Tamil Nadu, If TN then I challenge you to provide evidence. Female infanticide is rampant in Pakistan, afgahanistan and North India. Even in North India it is the highest castes (namely Rajputs...) who kill their daughters versus the Dalits. The ratio of Women to men amongst NI Dalits is almost equal where as amongst Upper castes it is genocidal!!!

johny...it is shown as highest in Tamil Nadu because only there you will be able to collect proper information as Tamil Nadu and Kerala are two of the highest literate states..in other places collecting info is a difficult task and hence you dont get to know the numbers...also Tamil Nadu is in the forefront of Aids prevention than other states..I am not telling that everything is good in tamil nadu or kerala but highlighting that there is nothing emotional about it and other states should also wake up to this...whether it is female infanticide or aids, these are issues across the globe and are to be tackled as social issues..We talk about the great Indian Culture and it is shameful that Aids is prevalent here...

Few things are easy in Tamilnadu
Getting fake passports ( In TN smugglers and illegal immigrants hold five passports per head)
getting fake driving licenses
getting fake community certificates
getting fake degree certificates
getting 99% marks in S.S.L.C.
fake man power consultants
fake immigration consultants
fake medical doctors
fake judiciary and fake advocates
Tamilnadu is heaven for international smuggling through chennai and trichy gateway.

Hi,
In Unicode system, Tamil has been allocated only 128 character positions. Unicode system is using iscii ( Central goverment's Indian lanaguge encoding standard). iscii has lot of bugs and also not-efficient for tamil (approxmately 3-times slower). please read below the articles and sign the petition. Tamil has already got lot of efficient encoding sytesm, which are already in use. Unicode is an international standard, So an efficient encoding system has to be used for tamil. So we have to raise our voice to get unicode to be re-constructed for tamil (Which is highly feasible) ...
And don't forget, Pass it on ....
