Attukal Pongala is a great Religious Festival celebrated at the present Bagawathi Amman Temple in Attukal at Thiruvananthapuram of Kerala annually - for the Tamil Goddess Kannaki (also known as Paththini, and as Mangaladevi) the heroine of the great Tamil Epic Silappathikaram composed by Ilango Adigal of the second century A.D. of former Tamil Chera Country (present Kerala). This this year the 10 day Festival falls from the 12th to the 21st of February 2017 - today being the last day.

To know the complete History of the "Goddess Kannaki Worship" in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, southern most Karnataka and much in Sri Lanka among the Sinhalese and Tamils (especially in the Eastern & Northern regions) - read my Research Article titled "The Evolution and the spread of the Cult of Kannaki (Paththini) Worship" in FB - Website under "Sri Hari" and also in this "Mayyam Website" under this same sub Heading. Presently in Tamil Nadu Kannaki Worship is popularly known as "Maari Amman Worship
