Shahrukh Khan agrees to changes suggested by Rajinikanth for ‘Ra.One’
, India Headlines Examiner According to reports, Shahrukh Khan has agreed to the suggestions made by superstar Rajinikanth in the action sequences for his upcoming movie 'RA. One'. The changes would be implemented, but it would increase the cost of the film making.
See photo gallery.
Sources from the production unit have said that during the shooting at the Whistling Woods in Goregaon in Mumbai, Rajini wanted certain changes to be made in the action and visuals.
Since Rajini has good experience in the past with action sequences, as he had done in his earlier movie ‘Robot’, Shahrukh did not hesitate to agree to the changes.
Shahrukh and Anubhav Sinha had discussed the changes for some time and then had decided that they would implement the changes, just like Rajinikanth wanted.
Rajni’s experience with special effects is massive as his movie ‘Robot’ was a huge success due to the special effects used in them.

Rajinikanth shot for his cameo in Shah Rukh Khan's Ra.One today and the Bollywood superstar couldn't hide his excitement over it!
SRK was in complete awe of Rajinikanth who was unwell for quite some time and had initially decided not to resume work till November. Rajini however flew down to Mumbai to shoot for his cameo, only for Shah Rukh.
Our source revealed, "The shoot has been wrapped up and everybody is happy about it, especially Shah Rukh who managed to get India's demi-god in his film for a special appearance!"
Shah Rukh too tweeted, "Sitting with Soundarya (Rajini's daughter) & seeing the edit of Rajini sir's shoot.
He is like a celestial being...the whole office is beaming with happiness. WOW"
The film is now a treat for not just Shah Rukh but Rajini fans too!

Yes, he hasn't shied away from it in the past. Aana, indha murai i don't think even someone like him would repeat that, paappom
And the movie was "Golmaal returns", not a Charukkaan film (soora mokkai padam, by the way. Their idea of comedy is light years behind us). Celina Jaitley plays the usual South Indian Brohmin gael. Actually there's a tribute line to Sri Devi and Rajini and the song picturization you mentioned is a rip-off of Athiradi - tribute num sollalaam, sppof num sollalaam - not sure what the intention was

Everytime when the same question been asked to Kamal on casting with Rajini, he always points out the producer's risk involved in paying 2 big paychecks. But I don't think that would be the issue anymore.

One of the reasons why multi strarer movies are quite normal in bolly wood is there is not many heros who has box office pull all over the india. Hindi market is big in india comparing any regional industry. Only offlate, only khans movie started to do well across india, especially multiplexes. Hindi is concentrating too much on multiplex audiance infact they lost the ground in rural area.

SRK visiting to thank Rajini

in my experience, Rangeela's run put to shame some of the tamil releases that released in 1995.........Rangeela was a major dent caused in the hindi-hostile market of TN but it was limited to places like chennai.......since then, there have been above average runs in chennai for hindi movies but nothing in range of QSQT or HAHK, Rangeela etc.......from 2000, i feel hindi market shrunk further and now is a miniscule group containing sowcarpet crowd......but stars have a great value - SRK, Aamir are hugely popular with some of the c center audience here but they dont watch hindi movies because they dont understand it.....i think they are very receptive people with no baggage of anti-hindi sentiments and would watch SRK, Aamir if given in a medium they understand......

i too not talking abt hindi imposition here - im talking abt the perception - "generally" hindi speaking people make fun of our artistes......its not true and is a extreme stance - many people love likes of kamal, mani and have tremendous respect for our cinematographers......they have radicals who mock south indian artistes, but radicals are there in every group - dont we have people who make fun of their superstars and even talented paralell cinema makers like Anurag kashyap.......
how m,uch respect do our own news channels, tamil channels have on our artistes?? vijay tv kai-la kaasu vechha dhaan programe poduvaanga - they couldnt do any special program for NT birthday on oct1??? and lets not talk abt AR's oscar coverage or KB's Dada saheb win in tamil news channels.............thats also a way of insult and mockery IMO.....
all im saying is normal fans dont look at all these things - they love Amir, SRK, amitabh bachan likes and would watch their movies if given in a understandable format.........hindi movies not running well in TN has northing to do with any ideology or sentiment.........

Maddy,
Respect for Kamal , Mani , ARR and cinematographers came just because they proved in Hindi movies as well .. Otherwise , i don't see much north Indians even care to acknowledge legends from south who worked only in south . Most of them have a mindset that Bollywood is Indian cinema ..and ofcourse some south indians proved in Bollywood , so can be considered as Indian artists .

Nice try. Obviously Rajini > Chitti but w.r.to 'this' film, Chitti will add more weight and SRK knows about it and based on media reports, its Chitti indeed.

Regarding Bollywood considered as Indian cinema, I dont know as to how the north indies think but for sure I know in the international arena that's how it is wrt Bollywood movies. I have heard my viatnamese, cambodian, kenyan and ethiopean friends/colleagues talking of Amitab,SRK, Aamir, Kareena, Aishwara et al but they know nothing about south Indian stars. The credit should go to BW for their aggressive and intelligent marketing strategies unlike our people who are generally not keen in moving beyond their boundaries.
This very thread itself is a proof of BW's shrewd marketing brain.

Roshan,
while you say that you agree with Maddy , you are actually telling what i missed to tell from my side ..Here I am not talking about who is well known all over India or all over over world ..Not only within india , also in international ..north indians spread this mindset or the media take Indian cinema is something from Mumbai ..Yes, I know about Cambodia , where hindi movies were once often shown in local TVs with Khmer sub titles or dubbed in Khmer ..But that is gone ..Now Korean movies taken that position.
Even in singapore , where market for Hindi movies is nothing compare to Tamil movies , non- indians (especially Chinese) think that Indian cinema is bollywood ..That is not because they follow Hindi cinemas ,but the English media potray that Indian cinema means Bollywood from Mumbai and they don't know the difference between Hindi and Tamil movies , they think Tamil movies also bollywood and Sharukhan (or whoever they noticed in english media as Bollywood actors) are the people acting in tamil movies ..when they see Tamil movies or songs ..they will say "oh! yeah ..bollywood" , so that is pure ignorance .
Apart from I am talking about arrogance of Hindians whereever they are .. They even argue that 'Chinna Chinna aasai' is dubbed from hindi original ..Even for upcoming 'deepavali' celebrations , they can't stand when it is called as 'Deepavali' instead of 'Diwali' .

I have said the same in different words. This 'spreading' is what I call as their intelligent marketing strategies. Chumma ukkaanthuttu spread paNNa mudiyaathu. Adhukku yaethaavathau paNnanum, like what SRK had done now with Rajini. And our people are not interested in this 'spreading' thing and they are quite satisified with staying within their boundaries. appadi boundary thaandi yaaravanthu pOna avangaLa 'thamizhan illa' appadinnu oru muththiraiya namma aaLunga kuthi oru anti-Tamilian sentiment'a uruvaakkiduraanga. appuRam BW meale gaandaagi avangaLa thittuRathu doesnt sound logical to me.
And when I mentioned about SRK, Aamir et al, it was to say that even Africans knew Indian movies in the form of Amithab and Sharukh (who are bollywood stars) and not in the form of Rajini, Kamal or Chiranjeevi.

I don't find anything wrong with rajini acting in this movie... It's a kind of a privilege given by bollywood to south... Rajini doesn't need srk to market enthiran in north whereas srk is in desperate need of Rajini to promote the movie in the south...This clearly shows the popularity Superstar enjoys over SRK... moreover, after his recent illness and with more and more of speculations brimming up,it is a nice strategy by Rajini to prove that he is alright...This is not gonna cost anything for SS...

Nerd, 3I opening week end collection was already broken... I don't think That would be an issue. Probably Enthiran's opening end distributor share would be something difficult break due to difference in tax structure between NI and SI.

He will officially launch the latest RA.One promo in Chennai today and then visit Rajini at his residence. Khan will also show the final edit of the portions in RA.One that stars Rajinikanth.
A source informed Mumbai Mirror. "Shah Rukh Khan is touring different cities to promote his film RA.One. On Monday, he will be in Chennai to launch the latest promo of his film. After the event, Shah Rukh will visit Rajinikanth at his residence in Poes Garden in Chennai. SRK will meet Rajini and show him the final edit of the portions shot at Whistling Woods in Mumbai."
On October 2, Rajinikanth, putting his health issues aside arrived in Mumbai to shoot for Khan's dream project at Whistling Woods studios.
His daughter Soundarya, who arrived with the superstar made sure that nothing went wrong with the day's shoot. Khan, needless to say, is indebted to the superstar for taking time out of his recuperation space and return in front of the camera for RA.One.
"Shah Rukh is very happy that Rajini came to Mumbai for the shot despite his ill health. SRK wants to show Rajini the portions that were shot and also check on the older actor's health. It's a goodwill gesture," added the source.

The way South Indians have been portrayed in Hindi cinema has always been exaggerated since the days of Mehmood in ‘Padosan'. Let me be honest. The film is commercial. I hope it's not too much. I apologise if I have. My mom is from Andhra Pradesh. So when she gets angry, she breaks into a Hyderabadi dialect. I have done a little bit of that.

Actor Rajinikath has shot a cameo for Shah Rukh Khan’s RA.One. During a press conference lately, Shah Rukh was questioned over Rajinikanth’s absences from promos of the film.
He said, “Rajinikath’s scene was present in the script since beginning. We were just waiting for him to shoot it. Because of his health condition, we lately shot the cameo and will be done with editing and effects soon. I didn’t want to misuse his presence in RA.One. I just wanted his blessings for the film. I will surely make a promo including Rajini sir soon and air it on television for everyone.”
Talking about Rajinikanth’s health state, Shah Rukh said, “He’s absolutely fit and healthy. While he was shooting for RA.One Rajini sir said that he wants to resume work at the earliest.”
Actor Shah Rukh Khan will not leave any stone unturned for his upcoming film 'RA.One'. He lately launched the Tamil version of 'Ra One's music album.

From CNN-IBN:
RA.One vs Robot: Can Shah Rukh Khan's 'RA.One' beat Rajinikanth's 'Robot'. Let's find out...
Shah Rukh Khan's ambitious project 'RA.One' is close to its release. The film looks promising, but can Shah Rukh Khan can beat Rajinikanth as a superhero.
Rajinikanth's 'Robot' which released last year, broke all box office record.
In 'RA.One', Arjun Rampal plays the negative character.
Rajinikanth played both good and bad robot characters himself in 'Robot'.
As all the superheroes have a geeky side, Shah Rukh Khan plays a geeky, software engineer in 'RA.One'.
Rajinikanth was also seen as a stylish scientist in 'Robot'.
Kareena Kapoor will be seen romancing Shah Rukh Khan in 'Ra.One'.
Rajinikanth roped in Bollywood's most beautiful lady, Aishwarya Rai for 'Robot'.
'RA.One' music album includes international names as well. The muisc is rocking the charts already.
Music videos of 'Robot' were really impressive. However, the music didn't get popular with the usual Bollywood fans.
'RA.One' action sequences look promising. A train sequence in the film looks a little inspired from 'Robot'.
Rajinikanth looked very convincing as a superhero, action sequences of the movie were one of its highlights.
If sources are to be believed, Shah Rukh Khan worked hard to make 'RA.One' better than 'Robot'.
Rajinikanth has done a cameo in 'RA.One' as his Robot character 'Chitti'.
Rajinikanth set a new standard for the superhero movies with 'Robot', let's see whether Shah Rukh Khan can match up with that.
Rajinikanth shot for a 'RA.One' cameo despite his not so good health state.
According to Shah Rukh, he just wanted Rajinikanth's blessings for 'RA.One'. But one thing is for sure, Rajini's cameo will do wonders for the film.
Shah Rukh Khan grooves to 'Chammak Challo' in 'RA.One'. The movie will hit screen on October 26, 2011.
Now Shah Rukh Khan has Rajinikanth's blessings and a great film in hand, let's see how he scores at the box office.

When did you think of roping in Rajnikanth in Ra.One?
I think Rajni sir became a part of film a year back. There was a sequence in the film and we hit upon an idea which went towards Rajni sir. We planned the whole sequence and spoke to him and he was comfortable doing it. Unfortunately, he was not well so we thought we'd have to drop the scene but he was kind enough to fulfil his promise.
There has been a lot of speculation that it was Rajnikanth's Robot that made you cast him in the film.
Let me clear this. I had Rajnkanth the actor in mind, not Chitti his character from Robot. When we sat down to discuss how his character would look, it was his daughter Soundarya who suggested we go with his Chitti's look from Robot.

Possible. It would probably be enticing a "what if" thought. Rajini in Ra vonnu and SRK in Endhiran. Bad actor+bad movie+big budget = Jaguh Kampung (village champion). Good actor+good movie+big budget=Spielberg knocking on the door, Nolan on call waiting, Bay still clinging on Rajini's leg as he moves to pick up the call.

RA.One is a sham: Ram Gopal Varma
SRK's RA.One might be the most awaited film of the season, but for RGV the movie is "a sham". The director who's known for taking digs at fellow directors and actors, has this time attacked Shah Rukh Khan and director Anubhav Sinha.
"Jst got 2 knw tht Ra.one is a sham..I am told tht it is
a one minute short film of Rajini in whch SRK did a 2 nd half hour guest appearance," (sic) RGV wrote on his Twitter page.
Not only RA.One, RGV had some controversial things to say about director Anubhav Sinha too.
"The most awaited Ra.one s drctor has only a negative record..whether Ra.one is directed by anubhav sinha or karan johar ppl wil still see." (sic)
The director has in the past offended Sanjay Leela Bhansali (Guzaarish), Abhishek Bachchan & Mani Ratnam (Raavan), Amitabh Bachchan (Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap) among others.
RGV had earlier tweeted, "Bollywood stars have completley shattered the myth of the director being the captain of a ship..a star is truly the only captain of the ship. Whether its abhinav or anees or siddique or sohail or arbaaz no matter whoever the director is salmans films become superhits anyway."(sic)

Ra.One: Shah Rukh Khan has another winner
Shah Rukh Khan has another winner on his hands with Ra.One.
tabloid! was at the Grand Cineplex last night to watch and review the film.
The movie started a good hour-and-a-half later than the scheduled time but the audience were willing to wait as SRK himself addressed them in each of the halls.
“I’m going to keep it short as the viewing is quite delayed. But would like to thank all my friends without whom this would not have been possible”.
Dream start
The movie begins with a funny dream sequence where the hero is going to save his girl from the evil Khalnayak (villain). Shekhar Subramaniam (Shah Rukh Khan) is a graphics specialist working for Barron Industries that makes video games and a man who loves his wife Sonia (Kareena Kapoor) and son Prateek (Armaan Verma).............
Special effects
The movie’s special effects team has nicely packaged a typical Bollywood potboiler as a slick thriller, on the lines of Hollywood’s Matrix, X-Men and similar sci-fi films, under the supervision of Jeff Kleiser who has contributed to films such as Tron, Stargate, Judge Dredd and X-Men to name a few. Combined with crisp sound design by Slumdog Millionaire’s Oscar winning Rasool Pookutty, this kind of sci-fi thriller is new to the Indian
cinemagoer and will be highly appreciated, especially in 3D, which unfortunately we didn’t get to watch.
The audience were also in splits when superstar Rajnikanth as Chitti ......
In all, a fun movie to catch and will definitely run full house during the Diwali weekend – making it a very happy Diwali for Shah Rukh Khan

Rahman scores for RA.One
Shah Rukh Khan and A R Rahman have wanted to work together for the longest time. But their plans to collaborate have always fallen through, that is until now. Reportedly, their long-awaited partnership has finally materialised, thanks to the south superstar Rajinikanth.
A source informed Mumbai Mirror that Rahman has agreed to score the music for a very important sequence in SRK's opus RA.One.
Apparently Rahman, who is very close to Rajinikanth, immediately agreed to SRK's request to compose the music for the scene that features a cameo by the south superstar. The source explained, "The scene is the highlight of the film. In the sequence, Rajinikanth and Shah Rukh come together and so, the dramatic effect of the scene depended largely on the background music.
That's why SRK and Rajini decided that an extraordinary scene like that needed a special background music that only someone of Rahman's calibre would be able to achieve. Since the music director is a very close friend of Rajini, he immediately made arrangements to start working on the music for the scene."
Apparently, Rahman dropped all his commitments abroad and returned to his studio in Chennai to record the music for the scene. According to the source, the entire RA.One team, including the film's music directors Vishal-Shekhar was not only agreeable but also excited to have Rahman work on music for the sequence. "After Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth, everyone felt Rahman's presence would be another step ahead for SRK's big Diwali release," added the source.
The last time Rahman and SRK worked together was in Mani Ratnam's Dil Se, in 1998. However, after this project, their plans to work together for a Red Chillies Entertainment production always hit a roadblock.
The two were supposed to work together in Farah Khan's Om Shanti Om - a plan that reportedly fell through due to royalty and copyright issues.
When contacted, Shah Rukh, Rahman and director Anubhav Sinha remained unavailable for comment.

On the whole, RA.ONE is a solid entertainer, no two opinions on that. It's not merely a great looking film, but also has soul, which is so essential to strike a chord with the avid moviegoer. As for the business prospects, RA.ONE is sure to shatter all previous records and set new ones, in India as well as internationally. The film will be the new yardstick for measuring success. It has Blockbuster written all over it!
The presence of Rajnikanth in a crucial sequence will be greeted with deafening claps and whistles. And, of course, the climax of the film; it's simply jaw-dropping.

Despite its flaws, the sci-fi flick looks poised to break new records in Bollywood
...But when you cut through the A-list star cast, the special effects frilling and the foot tapping music, all that’s left to dissect is a story, which forms the backbone of any good film.
.... While 'Ra.One’s' tale is weak at best, the transformation from ennui to entertainment in this sci-fi epic lies largely in the novelty value of watching India’s first 3D superhero action film. Children who have grown up on a diet of PlayStation and Xbox will connect with its premise, while Indian parents who spent many a night under the covers reading stories of Shaktiman – India’s first ever superhero – will certainly not miss an opportunity to experience that bout of nostalgia..
...with Shekhar Subramanium (Khan)
playing the goofy Tamilian gaming creator by day, and by night, slipping into the role of the doting husband and father to Sonia (Kareena Kapoor) and Prateek (Armaan Verma), respectively.
While Shekhar’s on again off again Tamilian accent may not impress the natives, as a character, his big goal in life is to impress his too cool for school young son, who thinks his father an embarrassment to mankind
As a Diwali release, the shrewd Khan has correctly banked on families to fork over their savings for a fun day at the movies. And if breaking records is what he has in mind, then Khan certainly won’t be disappointed; his year-long marketing blitzkrieg has ensured that wherever you turn this festival of lights, you will not be able to escape “Ra.One”.

http://www.rediff.com/movies/review/...e/20111026.htm
Ra.One seems to have been put together rather half-heartedly -- a song forced in here, a handful of laughable special appearances there (including an unforgivable one of Superstar Rajinikanth) and a little slapstick comedy and rona-dhona thrown in too

Saarukhan standards are pretty low...No denial in that...But Rajini could have abstained himself from acting in this crap...It must be soundarya who should have persuaded her dad... Atleast from now on,I dont want him to get bogged down by the pressures exerted by his family....

Now I am really proud of shankar... When enthiran got released,I felt that the movie could have been done much better... But after hearing reviews about Ra one and looking at some scenes, I am happy that shankar raised the par atleast upto some level which no one could do it... Enthiran will remain as a bench mark atleast for the next 2 years for the sci fi movies that are gonna be made in India ...

While it's mechanized avatar and emotionless conduct is again reminiscent of Rajinikanth's
Robot, the South sci-fi packed in much more punch thanks to an eventful screenplay as compared to the Bollywood counterpart which relies too much on SRK's stardom than the script. No doubt then that
Rajinikanth's one-scene cameo as 'Chitti' garners more applause than Shah Rukh wins in the whole film.

The way the review comes for RA one... it is going to be one of the all time disaster movies. Since the movie opened big, the disaster might be mitigated.... otherwise it is a collasal failure..... The bottomline is thalivar is the safe bet when you make high budget extravaganza (<100C)......

Director: Anubhav Sinha
Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal
Rating: ***
Shah Rukh Khan's superhero character takes too long to boot in this science fiction flick. G.One arrives just five minutes before the interval point by when you have already restarted your system several times, which has been hanging into nothingness. And the film's title character Ra.One, a skeletal villain, gets a face (Arjun Rampal) even later in the second half. Is it worth the wait? Only intermittently and inconsistently!
So what happens before the advent of the superhero? You are introduced to a nerdy South Indian stereotype Shekhar (Shah Rukh Khan), his wife Sonia (Kareena Kapoor) and their apathetic son Prateek (Armaan Verma). The father hopelessly imitates Michael Jackson, the mother is doing a Phd on Indian abuses and you don't blame the son to be uninterested by their goofy gimmickry.
The son wishes to see his diffident daddy as 'Papa - The Great'. So the father designs a virtual reality game and after detailed tutorials on nomenclature and direction-to-use, the video game's protagonist and antagonist come to the fore. So much that they step out of the gaming console to battle it out in the real world as G.One and Ra.One. What follows is a 'Robot- meets-Terminator' plotline with Ra.One in hot pursuit of Prateek while G.One trying to save him.
It's certainly not a 'dream' start for the film with a tacky video game prologue merely to accommodate starry cameos of Sanjay Dutt and Priyanka Chopra. Not only does director Anubhav Sinha take too long to arrive, the initial proceedings don't contribute much to the film either. Too much of screen-time is expended on vulgar jokes and tomfoolery. The actual thrill initiates only after the superhero comes into picture and the graph of the narrative soars considerably in the second half.
Though the sci-fi concept seems too far-fetched, the director is able to pull it off with visual dazzlery and fast-paced storytelling that the genre demands. The action sequences are thrillingly and credibly choreographed and esp. outstanding is a freeway chase which leads to car-catapulting sequence in a junkyard at the interval point. The local train sequence in the pre-climax evidently brings back memories of Rajinikanth's Robot. However, the climactic
mortal combat in a simulation setup isn't as much awe-inspiring and reminds of the climax of Ajay Devgn's
Toonpur Ka Superhero.
Another factor that works against the film is that its title character Ra.One is not half as menacing as it claims to be. Not only is Arjun Rampal inducted pretty late in the plot, being an 'outcome' of virtual reality he is too shallow and ineffective as the main villain. And while G.One is delightful, it could have been a lot more endearing.
While it's mechanized avatar and emotionless conduct is again reminiscent of Rajinikanth's Robot, the South sci-fi packed in much more punch thanks to an eventful screenplay as compared to the Bollywood counterpart which relies too much on SRK's stardom than the script. No doubt then that Rajinikanth's one-scene cameo as 'Chitti' garners more applause than Shah Rukh wins in the whole film.
The film has a very crude sense of humour and surprisingly the dialogues are more vulgar than witty for a film largely targeted at the family audience. With the theory that anything sells in the name of Shah Rukh, you are served with butt-spanking, crotch-grabbing, cleavage-popping, nose-picking, condom innuendoes, gayish and garish gags.
While any other actor doing that would have been tagged as 'cheap', girls going gaga over SRK would still like to call it 'charming' over here. Kareena Kapoor takes her Golmaal gibberish-abusive legacy ahead. Moreover a SRK film seems incomplete without a karva chauth scene or a K2H2 track playing in the backdrop.
Surprisingly, the ever-dependable Vishal-Shekhar's musical score never rises above the Akon number Chammak Challo. V Manikanandan's cinematography is effective. The editing could have been better and the film could have been much crisper in length. Since the film was not actually shot using the 3D technology and is merely converted into the format, the effects aren't really great and one wouldn't miss much in the 2D format.
Shah Rukh Khan credibly pulls off the G.One part though irritates occasionally as the nerdy South Indian. Despite being a superhero film, Kareena Kapoor is never sidelined and does decent in her part. Child actor Armaan Verma is less cute and more of attitude. He carries an annoyed expression for a major part. It's a cakewalk for Arjun Rampal to remain expressionless (in his mechanical avatar) throughout the film.
The base effect added to his voice makes his dialogue delivery less perceptible. Amitabh Bachchan's voiceover in the game's introduction doesn't register. The film offers an apt tribute to Rajinikanth though. Shahana Goswami gets no scope. Dalip Tahil makes a caricature of himself.
On the Indian superhero scale, G.One is certainly way ahead of its Krrish counterparts but still miles behind Robot. Nevertheless Ra.One qualifies for a 'one' time watch.

Ra.One earns Rs. 62.50 crore in opening two days
Ra.One grossed Rs. 26.5 crore with a net of Rs. 18.5 crore on Wednesday 26th October making it the highest ever Diwali day collection in the history of Indian cinema.
Eros International Media Ltd, a leading global company in the Indian film entertainment industry has announced a stunning opening for Shah Rukh Khan’s Ra.One, produced by Red Chillies Entertainments which released across theatres worldwide on 26th October 2011. The Diwali release has garnered a bumper gross collection of Rs. 62.50 crore in its opening two days of Diwali and New Year.
Ra.One grossed Rs. 26.5 crore with a net of Rs. 18.5 crore on Wednesday 26th October making it the highest ever Diwali day collection in the history of Indian cinema. The second day collections on Thursday 27th October were even more impressive with the film raking in Rs. 36 crore gross with a net of Rs. 25.10 crore making it the highest collection ever for a single day for an Indian film. Also in the overseas market film has shown magnificent performance being the highest collections for any Indian film so far.
Commenting on the opening, Nandu Ahuja, Sr. VP, Distribution, Eros International Media Ltd said, “We are witnessing unparalleled collections across the country with record breaking figures from different territories. Business usually gets hampered on Diwali day in the evening due to Laxmi pooja, despite which Ra.One has performed exceptionally well across the country and has proved to be the biggest ever Diwali day release. The film has opened at 95 to 100% collections from most territories and is a sure sign of one of the biggest blockbusters in the making in Bollywood. The second day figures have also broken records for the highest collections for a single day for an Indian film”.
Kamal Jain, Group CFO, Eros International Media Ltd added, “Majority of the film’s costs have been recovered before the film hit theatres and the box office numbers are exemplary giving major boost to profitability. We are extremely happy with the box office performance of the film as the same is very much in line with our expectations”.
Releasing over the extended festive weekend, Ra.One opened across more than 4,000 plus screens worldwide (3,100 plus screens in India and 904 prints internationally, including 3D, Tamil and Telugu) to rave responses and continues to draw in record numbers released across. The film has earned glowing reviews from leading critics including Nikhat Kazmi of The Times of India who described Ra.One as ‘paisa vasool entertainment’ (3 ½ stars), leading trade analyst and critic Taran Adarsh who has praised the film as a ‘solid entertainer and having Blockbuster written all over it’ (4 ½ stars) and Subhash K Jha who termed Ra.One as ‘a crackerjack of a clutter breaker…smart, sassy, saucy and scintillating’ (3 ½ stars).

http://www.rediff.com/movies/review/...e/20111028.htm
Blame it on the writing, which is basic, bland and silly to the extent of wasting a Rajnikanth [ Images ] cameo, the only time the movie hall comes alive with a thundering applause of claps and whistles
And Ra.One? Like I said, could have been this, could have been that. For now, it will stay the costliest ever till another one comes along. Until that time, Chitti babu ki jai ho.

Have a look at this, is this true ???
A piece of disappointment for Rajini fans, the minute long cameo of the real-superhero Rajinikanth aka Chitti of Robot was actually graphically created in the film Ra.One.
Highly placed sources reveal that Shah Rukh’s talented VFX team had already created the replica and imaging of Rajinikanth. But, the South legend’s flashing visit to SRK’s studio in Mumbai was put to life by performing real motion capturing technique.
Motion Capturing (MoCaP) is one of the great new frontiers in the world of movie making and is becoming a crucial tool in complex digital effects.
A source elaborated, “The VFX team of Red Chilies had already created a graphically designed flawlessly looking face of Rajini, after taking textures from Rajini’s Robot sequences. Sensors were put on the face of Rajinikanth and his facial expressions were captured through MoCAP”.
“Rajini was also made to wear Chitti’s attire and walk in and out of the sporty Benz car, his entire body movements especially the facial expressions were captured and real motion was put to his computer generated face and body,” disclosed the sources.
As per sources, in haste to meet up the deadline of release, Rajini’s voice was also recorded on the VFX machine and not in a professional dubbing studio making it sound shabby.
Visual graphic expert revealed, “The entire activity took around a couple of hours, perhaps if Rajini sir would have not made it to Mumbai we would have to use a body double to do the needful”.
Robert Zemeckis has produced three films entirely using MoCap: Polar Express, Beowulf and A Christmas Carol. Peter Jackson, James Cameron, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas have also used the technology in their productions.

Ra.One Monday: drops heavily by 60-65%
As per Taran’s tweet, Ra.One is in 6-6.5 cr range. Going by Taran numbers, that is a 60-65% drop.
This is a huge drop. One can even call it a crash.
By the looks of it, this movie is not going to cross Bodyguard or Dabanng lifetime

Dilbert gaaru,
You remind me of the Raghuvaran angry-suspicious-for-everything character (Puriya Pudhir i think)
Ra.One breaks box office record with Rs 170cr collections
Hope that clarifies

SRK, hailing from Delhi, is no surprise a unabashed tamil mocker........indian express editorial has expressed reservations over the racism in Ra.One........hope this carries momentum and slaps SRK at one point of time.........be ready with ur shoes and chappals - throw at SRK whenever u get to see him...........as of now, im planning to skip watching any SRK movie, even the one with thalaivar music, in theater until he apologises.......

Maddy & Co.. wow where is racisim coming in this now? As Sarugu gone mentioned at press meet rite from days of padosan (1960s) madrasi and sambar is mixed in pretty much in every single gindi movie.. which wants to potray south. I was against language used in the movie but not against concept of comedy script based on a language.
Even we have taken shots at North walas, in movies like indru poi naalai vaa
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iH7_PIAkhCM
If you guys call this racisim, than MR should be jailed everytime he takes movie about kashmir, north, SL - even he equally kills the local culture in the name of creation.
Bottom line, tamils should a take a giant step back and see where else they can truely improve tamil culture apart from movie names and movie subjects.

I do not mean to be rude, I can not stand Saroog ghaan !. No talents, no charisma, very bad looking ( Don't know what the girls see in him) no nothing, AFAIK since my memories, in gindi pilims, they have always made fun of South Indians, from Agneepath time's ridiculing Mithun Chakaraborti (Far better Actor than any , including the bachan those times) to be a mallu /Tamil Brahmin wallah! and to those Tele Drama's like Ramayan and Mahabhratha. They have always potrayed Tamilians as third rated Citizens!

Ra One.
I rarely watch hindi movies, but I wanted to watch this movie because it was a sci fi action movie... i thought... instead it turned into melodramatic bollywood tearjerker.
The story is like this, a nerdy father creates a game to earn respect from his spoiled song. So he creates a game where the villain is is stronger than usual,Ra One (Raavan?) but also a Gi One (read it as Jeevan??). The evil guy enteres the real world to get even with this son who left without finishing the game. So Gi One has to enter real world and rescue this little brat.
This movie could have been a very good action entertainer, but instead it deal with this father son relationship...the only thing that is missing ... is a song like ammavum neeye appavum neeye...
The only plus for me is picturisation of the songs, that is bollywood far better to do than kollywood, of course they have bigger budgets...Chamak Challo and Criminal was pleasant to watch.
Some of the jokes about south indians i dont get...esp this one "south indian break.. see you tomorrow"???
A chitti scene was just to get some publicity and cheap claps...
Verdict: Play Street Fighter II instead...

Apparently SRK's power in media and tremendous marketing saved this movie from disaster. Thalaivar did not look real on the movie.
