Seedan is releasing today, February 25th, 2011, and movie buffs are eagerly waiting for it as Dhanush had said that it is an experimental film. In Seedan, he plays a guest role and as per sources he would appear on screen for approximately 45 minutes.
New comer Krishna is the hero while Nadodigal fame Ananya plays the leading lady. Vivek is in-charge of comedy. On Seedan, Dhanush has said that its Malayalam version Nandanam is one of his all-time favorites and starring in the Tamil version was a blessing.
Music for Seedan has been scored by Dhina and the film is produced by ‘GoodKnight’ Mohan.

Dhanush is making a cameo appearance in Subramaniyam Siva directed Seedan. The producer Amit Mohan is putting all his publicity around the actor to make it look like a Dhanush film, rising expectations about the film. A day before the film released Dhanush tweeted: "Seedan releasing tomorrow! It's an experiment. Hoping for the best. God bless."
Seedan a remake of Malayalam Nandanam, is a feel good film with a sweet message. In the lead are new face Krishna and Naadodigal Ananya along with Vivek, Suhasini, Meera Krishnan, Sheela, Ponvannan and Ilavarasu . If the family audiences take up the film it has a chance to emerge as a winner.

Seedan- 2/5. Outdated and boring. The original in Malayalam was a classic, but lost its soul in the remake. Only + Vivek comedy & Dhanush
You can't remake certain films like Nandanam. Nativity, milieu and audience taste r different, story will not wash down with 2de's viewers.

Isnt that true DH? Nandanam was not really about story, screenplay, dialogues etc right? It was all about the Kerala specific Social mores, inclinations, milieu etc. Plus, the music was an integral part - and that sort of music wouldnt work in TN - without that sort of music - and with generic Light music as I expect the Tn version to be - the movie is like <Insert a funny metaphor like groucho, which I am not capable of>

yeah true but with Dhanush being there wanted the movie to be a hit
Navya was v.good in that movie (only movie i liked her), but Prithvi had nothing to do. Although the ending was kinda funny, i liked it esp for what it did for the character Navya played.

I haven't seen the film (no release in Delhi and didn't have enough time in Chennai to watch it). While I have misgivings, I would like the film to do well mostly because I know the producers. It is a very 'Indian' film in what could only be classified as a fantasy. The original worked because it really tugged at something very unique to temple towns - how everything from a sense of time to the economy is very dependent on the temple.

Seedan is good. There are some parts that could be draging (for us) but it could appeal the other audiences (a bit like TV serial). Danush has a big part to play in the 2nd half, and no, he does not wear "Lord Muruga" costume, nor goes around on his "myil" across the sky. For me, vivek comedy is a let down but laughable in some parts. Yes, its true that a girl talks to and worships a "Murugar" photo and even quarrels with it. I know that these things are ridicule in this "cell phone" "era". Maybe if she talked with God over a cell phone, this generation would accept it.
The story is simple and there are no "spoilers" while giving out the story. When the dreams of a "murugar" devotee shatters as her love interest is getting married to a girl arranged by his mother, the Lord himself comes down to set things right for her, by the proving that if your devotion is true, "Saravanan will appear". This answers to all the "logical questions" asked these days - why should god come, he could have just moved his fingers to set things right....
There are few unwanted scenes, but what to do - a tamil film must have a running time of more than 150 mins.
Danush costumes is quite appropriate as well as his crisp performence but at some scenes his grin taps your nerve. He has done a calm role and his one liners are good. Nice that he is trying different roles.
Ananya has performed but the problem with her performence is after the first 1/2 an hour you feel that she is putting the same act - being sad.
Other casts have performed well as per the "TV Serial" scripting style - cry, stare, shocked ... etc., not to mention there is a big family union to deceide who should marry whom.
During the final stages, there is a feeling that everything is beeing rushed up (as the time is up), but the climax temple scene steals the show (atleast for those who still beleive in "Drama" genre).
Not a must watch, but you will not be diappointed if you watch it.

movie is watchable ...
the big problem is, just like arthi said, it is like a TV drama ...
<maybe spoiler ahead>
everything is settled out with a "sad" song in climax
</maybe spoiler ahead>
Vivek's first part is full of mokkai ... especially the scene involving mayilsaamy ... unwanted IMO ... 10 cell phones kondu vaaruvaaramaa, vivek onnu eduthu vaaykulla olichu vaperaamaa, atha mulinkiriveraamaa ... mayilsaamy vedikka vaperaaama ... ketkuravan kenayanaa iruntha ...
this is what i don't like in comedies of vivek or vadivelu ... situational comedies, if we can call them comedies ... oru flow-la varanum, chumma ippidi ellam ...
second part with Danush was good though ... "oru poli chaamiyaar, nimmathiyaa vazha mudiyaatha ?"
Danush is good ... in parts ... but I don't see the need of this "murugan" coming for help ... he is there, he watches what's happening, and that's all ... why she needs a GOD's help ? ... what say ?
final verdict : too slow, too slow, too slow (innum 10 000 too slow add pannikongo, appo thaan enn peelings puriyum)

Oh, oh, oh!
DH, I told you. The remake was so pointless.
Pras, the original was so not about the story. It was, as Camfli alluded, peculiarly about the temple town and its rhythms , and more importantly from my POV, a film where music was an integral part and had to be of a certain persuasion. The characters themselves were aligned with that musical vision of the movie.
In Tamil, unless you get an IR or Rahman, you cannot translate that. Maybe, not even with Rahman. Waste of time remaking
this movie, if you ask.

athellam sari, but my remark is : she has NO problem at all in that movie ! ... no problem that requires murugan to come in ... the first bride runs away from herself ... then things get cleared with a song ... that's the plot ...
was he there to just tell her nothing is lost and "wait and see" ... then it is not clearly explained in the movie ...

Well, not all her problems are show cased in the movie but it is centered only to her "love affair". When she is not willing to communicate with Lord, he deceides to come down to assure her and He has no intention to do miracles. There is a scene where Danush says to Vivek "He (the astrologer) will not come as I did not send him". So Danush right from the begining knows whats going to happen but is just there to speed up things + assure his devotee (moraly). When she does not beleive him he does a miracle (myil feather on white saree) to assure her that "everything is taken care of" but patience is the essence. He also teaches her optimism and not to look at the pointer but at the pointers end (not how sharp the arrow is, but where/how it strikes). It can be taken also that, he misses her devotion and pays her a visit.
But again, its a story related to God (sans miracles) and would certainly defy logic

Appearence of GOD (as understood from Seedan) :
1. If you are a true devotee, God will decend and serve you
2. Gods too misses the love and affection shown by their true devotee. When "she" quarells with him, he decends to be close with her.
3. Like a shower of the Path, God helps you understand "acceptence" and "optimism" by taking a place as your aid.
4. God Enforces or teaches that "miracles" are done not to ease thing. The best miracle that could happen is the dot like good thing in a major problem.
So on so forth ... so he decends to prove not only his existence, but also to show is appreciation.
Hope its clear ... illa na, kocham time Kodunga, ethachum "spiritual" book padichitu bathil solla try pandrein.

SoftSword, Thats the plot : see point 1 & 2. If it was anyother good soul, God would have done as you have suggested. But "this girl" is special for him.
(By the way, I sent you a PM this morning ... no reply

so god himself operates people.. some girls to be true devotee and some gals to be untrue/lighter devotee...
and for this true devotee he comes down, like he has reservations on the people he create, give form, give character, give situations?

Well SoftSword, you cannot question the actions of God as it is beyond questionable. God has clearly explained his existence, his meaning, his arrival, his role, his appearence etc., in the 2 main relegious books. (Let me not talk about these 2 books in open forum) And if you have read either one, you will understand.

Well Pras, SoftSword : Bible and Bhagavad Gita. The difference in Quran is that GOD did not narrate it directly but thru Prohet Mohamed. So I did not include it just to precise that the 2 former books are told by God. But all the 3 convey the same. (Now lets not put a question is who is Jesus - He is the Father, the son and the Holy Spirit).
And all 3 books should have been written by Humans (unless they support with a proof that it fell from the sky ... )

enna ennayum belief'la setthuteenga. naan real'nga.
bible is narrated by god himself?
thats a diff topic anyway, what i was about to say was.
God is assumed to be Omniscient and Omnipotent.
Omniscience (all-knowing) and omnipotence (all-doing) are mutually exclusive
1. If God is omniscient, he knows what the future holds.
2. If God is omnipotent, he is able to change any aspect of the future he wishes.
3. If God is omniscient, he already knows what he is going to do to change the future.
4. This means that God cannot change his mind about his intervention.
5. Therefore, God is not omnipotent.

All these knowings and doings are well explained in Hindu mythology ... for instance take the story of churning for "Amrudham", or the boons that shiva granted just in appreciation for devotion and getting into trouble - vishnu comming to help ... there are many such things.
Points 1,2 & 3 are told in Seedan.
Point 4,5 "many" will not accept your "logical" dedcution. First and foremost being, accounting "god's mind" ....

Its not an answer. I cannot answer it, as its a very vast subject. Vedivelu solara mari "Room pottu than pesanum".
And I do not have enough knowledge on this subject. Some books padichirruken, convince ayirukein, kelvi kettu irrukein. But in the end only acceptence answered "few" questions. Unnakum poga poga purium. (Don't take me for a relegious person - but beleive spirituality) "Unnai kelvi kel Vidai kadaikum" principle.
So, you will not get answer for that question, atleast from me.

wish they had not included those miracles (like mayil iragu on saree, disappearance at pazhani, etc) so that it is more realistic.

Devotional movie-a? Deivam is a classic, will never forget KKKV's music when camera focusses on Muthuraman's leg, furiously walking
. Seriously, that's a fine movie, fantastic songs, and perhaps the only peacock vs man scene ever recorded in celluloid.
