Best Supporting Actress
Wow, here I am tasked to introduced these brilliant women who probably have collective IQ of a football score. Hey, I don't know them okay.
Anyway, for best supporting actress in Tamil film, we have serene Saranya, followed by fiery Sangeetha and next in line is Reema Sen for god knows what film she did. This, followed by Pia Hajpai, Mounika, Snighda, Susan and Vijayalakshmi. Who the heck are they?

Best Supporting Actor
More nomination list as we bring you best supporting actor, usually known as folks who stole the show, robbed the limelight and purloined the attention from the main guy. I always wanted to use the word “purloin” ever since I read the Poe story, though now it sounds like cats private part or something.
Anyway, leading the list is Madhavan. Actually he won so that’s it. Go back to work all of you. POngga, pOngga, poy veela vettiya parungga...
…okay, mods not happy, I have to read the rest.
Taking a position next to Madhavan is A.Venkatesh, don't ask what position you dirty brained Hubbers. Then, you have Ganesh who appeared in VTV who was overtly praised by most of the Hubbers that when I actually saw the film I went, “eh? What’s the big deal?”
Others include Ilavarasu, Jayaprakash and Thambi Ramaiyah, which reminds us that you can be key grip today and best supporting actor nex year.
Next in the list is Parthiban for the film Ayirattil Oruvan, where he spoke Tamil language so eloquently that I didn’t understand a single word he said. And you nominated him.
To complete the list, you have Pritviraj, Sambath (for boldly going where no male actors go) and Mansur Alikhan (for boldly keep resurfing in the industry) .
In short, the Hub is the only place where anyone can be nominated Best Supporting Actor. I'm nominating my cat next year.

Among the nominees, Vijayalaksmi was a no starter, while Snigdha, Susan and Mounika could garner only 2% of votes (not even 2%, actually). Priyamani and Pia Bajpai fared slightly better and got 7.58% each. The first three in the race are Sangeetha, Saranya and Reema Sen. The winner will be announced shortly.

Best Debut (Actress)
Everyone has to make a debut in someone’s life somewhere. They become our need as the debutante continues to contribute till the last breath. Sorry for the digression, I am talking about guides dogs here.
This is not in the case of debut actress, where the fun can be derived from predicting who’d get married first (to which director), who’d disappear into the oblivion and who’d be fortunate enough to continue to torture us with bad performances. As if one Trisha isn’t enough.
This year’s nominee is actually a mixed bunch really, like poor actress, to bad actress, to pathetic; to one that makes you rather listen to nail scratching the blackboard.
So, here we go, first we have Amala Paul, whom I voted because she had a lovely former actress’ name. That’s how pathetic that vote was. Then, it’s Oviya who at least you know is not real. Oviya = painting. Hallo?
Joining them is Amy Jackson whom I had the pleasure of seeing in Madrasapattinam and frankly she’s not the best among the Jacksons. Then you have Preetika and Samantha. I don’t know who’s who, but I guess they are interchangeable like my pairs of black socks.

Best Debut Actor
Apparently I am still on the job as the moderators are kind enough not to fire my rear end for all those “kind words”. But then again, I am given a bunch of names that I have no idea who they are, except for one.
Anyway, these actors are here united by one single factor that undeniably make them liable to be nominated as best debut actor, which is that they are all guys.
Considering I know nothing of them, I spent the entire weekend researching on them with the aide of certain Scottish beverage. Since we don’t have much time, I shall only reveal some trivia information about them. Here we go:
Leading the list is Vidarth who appeared in Mynaa a film about a troubled bird, I think. Anyway, Vidarth, not to be mistaken for Siddarth, nor does he belong to the dark side (the Darths, remember?) has indeed been in many occasions be mistaken for Yeti the Snow Monster, though both of their resemblances are limited to their preferences for fried eggs sunny side up.
I was given this name, next, a certain Michael. No film was given. Where he debuted, I don’t know. What Michael, NOV, LM? Why thrust a Michael on our face, when we know there are only two well known Michaels among the film fanst, that is Michael Corleone and Michael son of Sandhana Bharathi.
Okay, the list goes on with Arulnidhi (Vamsam) and Dushy (Easan), the latter a name that will certainly be a choice for up and coming Hollywood porn stars in the 70s. Then, we have actor Murali’s son Adharva (Baana Kaatadi), and Sanjay who debuted in Mundhinam Partene (which naan parkavillai) who apparently is someone’s son too. Whoa!
My favourite of the list would be the one dude I watched and who's performance I enjoyed, Mahesh who made a smashing debut in Angadi Theru, whom I have only one advice to give, enjoy yourself while that hair lasts.

Best Cinematography
Cinematographers are heaven sent, or maybe film school sent, but the point is without them we would probably still be watching actors on stage with rotten tomatoes in hand.
Those days they were referred to as cameraman, then cinematographer and now they are happier to be called director of photography though that would also apply to every perverts with camera phone.
Early days, camera was still that it was the actors who did lots of movement. These days they move so much that the actors are permitted to, no matter what roles they are doing, to imitate a cheap furniture.
Anyway, I’ll try to restrain myself from making fun of these groups whom I respect a lot because those are expensive cameras, dude.
The nominees are….Manikandan & Santhosh Sivan for Ravanan, a film known for its gorgeous cinematography and a bullet-proof heroine. Hot on their heel is Ratnavelu who proved that he can tackle sci-fi just like that in Endhiran a film about robots and a bullet-proof heroine.
Joining that list is Mahesh Muthuswamy for Nandalala, a film about Nanda’s clam*, and Nirav Shah for Madrasapatinam, a film a dude and a chick and lots of bad English actors.
Manoj Paramahamsa joins them for his work in Vinnai Tandi Varuvaya a film about Simbhu in straight-jacket and Madhie for Payya, a film about…err…a boy?
The last two in the list would be Ramnath Shetty for Mandira Punnagai and Richard Nathan for Angadi Theru
Okay, that’s about it, you can go on with your business….
…Oh wait, I got a text message here, hang on…. …oh…okay buddy, no, not that account, Swiss, yeah….
….we are also including SK Boopathy for his visually spellbinding work in Virudhagiri. There….

In keeping with the principle of "Tamizh theriyAdha Model Tamizh heroine", this year's Hub Awards philosophy seems to be choose exactly that person for presenting the awards, who doesnt know much about the subject in question, or if he knows the subject, doesn't know the nominees. We saw that in groucho's introductions for previous awards. We continue that trend with yours truly being chosen to present the cinematography awards. My interest in photography lasted precisely those two years, when, suddenly in possession of disposable income owing to a IT job(cue: sarNa to launch into a kaRRadhu Tamizh style discourse), and the presence of nubile young things of the opposite sex all around to impress, I bought a SLR for about 3/4th-the-GDP of my household when my father was running it until the previous year. Suffice to say I met success neither with learning the nuances of photography nor...well, but I digress.
The point here is that beggars cannot be choosers. Therefore, you have me to present the cinematographer awards. And I am not going to give you hitherto unknown pearls of knowledge about cinematography nor saucy PMs on the nominees. And that's that. Now, sarNA, please drop that axe. Homicide is a punishable offence. Save the axe for when the revolution comes, when I will promptly join you in murdering the capitalist pigs.
Stay tuned for poor approximations of groucho's genuinely funny efforts

Richard Nathan of Angaadi Theru, whose father was probably a Gounder fan who took to heart the great man's advice about naming progeny after Davids and Boons of the world rather than karuppaNNasAmys and aiyyanars, is the first to bow out. His vote tally reminds us of a historical fact*.
Joining him in the dumpheap is Madhie of Paiyya, whose father obviously believes in numerology. Or, perhaps, it was himself who consulted a numerology expert. Whatever. Perhaps, that helped his vote tally, which again reminds of the same historical fact as above, and has relevance to all number theories.
*Historical Fact - India invented Zero

SK Boopathy bows out next with 1.19% of the votes. Why euphemism? Let's say SK Boopathy bows out with Honestraj's vote.
Ramnath Shetty's efforts to capture the magic smile of Karu Pazhaniappan failed to capture any more than 2.38% votes, mainly because Pazhaniappan failed to produce the titular magic smile throughout the movie
Sukumar of Mynaa showed us some picturesque locations in the Western Ghats apparently. With 4.76% votes, he did better than the above mentioned - mainly, I suspect, due to the object on screen being Amala Paul, fresh off her exploits in the Indus Valley.
Nirav Shah benefitted to the tune of 10.71% from an irrational love tamil audience developed for Madrasapattinam, a film, which, modelling itself on an unappetising mixture of Lagaan and Titanic, told us about a semi-clad wrestler in pre-independence Madras and his stoic efforts to present a single expression to all vicissitudes(there, I wanted to work in that word somewhere into this post - Bravo, Plum!) of Life thrown at him by destiny. The expression reached its zenith and was perfected by the photograph of this man paridhi in his office post his death. Arya apparently broke the photograph in jealousy about it being the better actor, post the shooting.
Mahesh 'Myshkin' Muthuswamy did better with 11.90%. No comments as I havent still seen the movie despite buying the original DVD 1 month ago. So much for supporting meaningful tamil cinema, eh?
That leaves us with 4 men - none of whom I suspect will be approved by Anban:
Manikandan-Santosh Sivan for 'Peter' Ravanan
'Randy' Rathnavelu for 'Peter' Endhiran
Manoj Paramahamsa for 'Peter' Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya
Which of the 3 won the crown, you will know in a few minutes, and that will end this torture for you of having to read through my presentation citations.

Endhiran's Rathnavelu bows out first, with 19% votes, thereby proving that a Bullet Proof Heroine doth not an award guarantee.
Manoj Paramahamsa garners an impressive 23.81%, a singular feat for a film starring Simbu and Trisha, not to mention the un-photogenic Ganesh. (Remember that the previous film starring these two was 'Alai', whose only point of interest was how many ways Simbu molested a hapless Trisha, who was then a novice newbie, as opposed to the novice veteran she is now)
And the winner is....

I had lots of good thing to say,
mostly the cinematography, but didn't say the movie is good. It's worth watching on big screen for the visual spectacle. Take out the beautiful camerawork, the movie's crap. Mani has done few craps, this is not his worst (no serious contendor to Bombay or Dilse), but crap nevertheless. The recent re-visit on TV got me cringing.

Best Comedian
Comedy has come a long way, from the glorious days of N.S. Krishnan, hitting the peak with Annan Goundamani and his sidekick Senthil, and then sliding off the slop with Vivek and Vadivelu, and now stuck in the crevice filled with bat guano with Santhanam and Kanja Garuppu.
And so, I have in my hand list of nominees for this year’s best comedian and it looked like grocery list for hobos. I’ll read it never the less.
Leading the pack is the third rate Goundamani imitator Sandhanam who somehow managed to find his own niche in Boss but not without the straight man that is Arya. You have B-grade Pandu, Premji who’s source of comedy comes from the literally big mouth, followed by Sampath who managed to outsteroetype stereotype gays in Goa, and why he’s nominated here is a subject for gay rights folks to burn the effigy about.
Following him would be Ganja Karuppu who, to me, is about as funniest guy you can find in a funeral directors' convention. Or dentists'. Choose your pick. Next on is Mirchi Siva, who was marvellous as VA Moorthy’s sidekick in Tamizh padam, the latter who is criminally absent here. Next on is Paandi…he’s one of those curly haired dudes right? I can’t remember which. Followed by the late, Haniffa, rest-in-peace, I mean really, for being listed with the above he better have a rest and not know about this.
Next on is the usual suspects, Vivek and Vadiveloo, who has not only been recycling their gags, but beating the dead gag horse, checking its pulse, defibrillates it, and beating it to death again.
Last but not the least is Goundamani, who not only can eat all of the above for breakfast, brunch, tiffin, lunch, tea, hi-tea, dinner, supper, but also late night after pub Bak Kut Teh*.
Whoever wins, deserves forgiveness from Annan, ambuduthen.

Best Comedian - Results
Goa duo Premji-Sampath couldn't find any favour from our hubbers, while Chinna Kalaivanar Vivek could manage only 2.22% of the votes. Kanja Karuppu and Mirchi Siva bagged 3.33% of the votes, while Vaigai puyal fared slightly better with 4.44% of votes.
The late Hanifa and Paandi garnered 7.77% of votes each which was not enough to compete between the top 2: Annan Goundamani and Sirippu Thalabathy Santhanam...
Final result shortly....

Best Actress 2010
Usually actresses of Tamizh films enjoy the tremendous stress of watching their voice dubbed against their wishes. Hah!, who am I kidding. They get full pay for doing half the job, most credit should go to their dubbing artist and I demand a category for that next year. But I suppose there are exceptions this year. Let me read on…
First, Aishwarya Rai for both Endhiran & Ravanan, where she collectively becomes object of affection of a cowardly scientist, a robot that gets destroyed for the romance, evil incarnation of that same robot that gets dismantled for still loving her, and a village rogue who gets killed for kidnapping her and yet allowing her to keep her makeup set. She’s awesome that way.
Next we have three actresses under A category, Amala Paul for Myna, who I am not sure how great she is, but with that name she gets my approval, Amy Jackson who dubbed her way into our Hubbers heart through Madrasapattinam and Anjali who cried her way to my heart in the wonderful Aanggadi Theru where she loses her legs. Oh wait, some of you haven’t seen the film? Spoiler? Well, that’s for not watching the movie you Johnny-come-latelies.
Oh, I missed out another name, the oft spoke about Anushka, whom I rate lower than Tamanna (happy-ya Mahen?) because I haven’t seen any of her films (happy-ya Mahen?).
Following them is the delectable Nayanthara for Boss, the delicious Reema Sen for Ayirattil Oruvan and the delirious Shreya for Kutti and Chikku Bukku. Next on, for Sura, Paiyaa & Tillalanggadi and 47 other films, that shows how awesomely talented she is, is Tamanna (Mahen I want two gold class tickets please, pronto)
Hey, I see another name scribbled here. Oh, Also included is Trisha, who in Vinnai Taandi Varuvaya, plays a totem pole.

Best Actress - Result
Delicious Vellai vaathu Reema Sen is a non starter. Looks like hubbers expected much more from her in Aayiraththil Oruvan..
Chella Kutty Shreya and Vella katty Anushka ended up with lesser than 3% votes..
Vella Peruchaali Tamannaa with the support and campaign of Mahen got 9.57 %.
ippa yaar kooda irukaangannu nichchayamaa theriyaathathaala, Nayan could get only 4.26% votes from hubbers..
Personally I am extremely happy that Overrated, Overhyped and Old Figure Aish got only 5.3 %
Inga maamanaar vayasula NOV mattum irunthathaala, Amala paul Just got 2.13 % votes....
Now that leaves the tough competition between Modern Kamala Kamesh, Anjalai and Amy

Today, I am posting many announcement simultaneously, I hope I don't get twisted in the knickers and post in the wrong thread. Mods, kavaninggapaa....
now on to
Best Director
Ah one of the most crucial awards, which director is the most pretentious and has the best use of contemporary technologies in making the kind of films Hollywood made decades ago.
No awards nomination is worth their salt if it doesn’t include Gautham Menon and Maniratnam because they make films for awards. Not having them is like not having fish in fish market. You can include Shankar, obviously the biggest, most colourful but the blandest tasting fish. Wow, note that in this para, there are words “salt” and “fish”, tells you a lot about the nominees, eh?
Next on, the arguably most talked about director in the Hub, Myskin who continues to make film that doesn’t have Kamal in it, followed by Selvaraghavan who is going to make film that has Kamal in it, and Prabhu Solomon who didn’t have Kamal in his film, nor is Kamal appearing in his next film, but has appeared in his audio launch or something. Close but no cigar Prabhu.
The list is not complete without Sargunam and Susindran. But then, the list is also not complete without the mods agreement to pay me US$2.7 million plus 20% profit from the Hubs dubious earning. Never mind, appuram pesikkalam.
Wait the list is still not complete, because it has to have Vasantha Balan in it. Vasantha Balan is a must in any list including the one you stick on the fridge. Last dude on the list is Vijay, one of 2,367 Vijays working in the film industry.

More awesomeness for Angadi Theru I hope with these nomination for
Best Film
One of the most cruacial poll, best Tamizh language film. When I say best, it’s usually the most loud, bragged about, overrated piece of crap that has landed on this side of toilet bowl. And it’s easy to see the last few of the list that I’ll share with you after I have couple of shots. Sheesh.
But then again, there are some quieter ones that slowly crawled its way into the list, films like Nandalala, Mynaa and Kalavaani – films I believe were made with awards, rewards, and future projects with Kamal and Rajini in mind.
Those films, I have not seen, but I have seen the Ayirathil Oruvan, which started out fine and then went totally insane like a horse that was galloping alone peacefully till a rattle snake mistook its member for something to grab a bite for.
Next on line is a film I adore Angadi Theru, a film that proves that not all that comes out of Tamizh film industry these days are bull dung wrapped in elegant tin foil, which brings us to….
…Man Madhan Ambu, which, when it came out was pretty good film, and when you think about it now, you go, “wait, what was that again”. It was like having one too many drinks like Madhavan in that film and waking up married to a loudmouth with even louder mouthed kids. Oh wait….
Following that in the list is Vinnaithandi Varuvayaa was a breeze of a film, and could have benefited a lot more if Goutham refrains from practising through his script his Disney Channel/Hannah Montana English, especially not through Trisha who is increasingly becoming more powerful an actress than Britney Spears.
Next on is Endhiran, a loud mishmash of Hollywood summer films with only redeeming factor being a decent performance from and star power of Rajini, music by Rahman and the fact that Aishwarya Rai is supposed to look beautiful and survive bullets and that’s it, unlike…
…the other nominee, Ravanan, where she was asked to do a role that seemed to be written for Meryl Streep if not for the fact that it was horribly written by someone who would have been compared to Streep if not for a thankfully brief career as leading actress.
The last one in the list is a black sheep, dark horse, underdog, HR’s holy cow and demon cat, Virudhagiri which made it here because at least it didn’t pretend to be important. Any films with Captain in it deserves to be listed here, if flashy noisy empty vessels like Endhiran and Ravanan can be here.

In 6 to 60, after Rajini exits the scene, Cho, at his editor's desk, would look up, tap his chin with his pen and thinks aloud, "Innikki yaara tittalaam?" Athu mathiri irukku en nilamai. Anyway here we go
Best Actor
Obviously the contenders for this category are not best actors, but favourite actors according to the majority of the Hub members.
Let’s face it, without them the film section of the Hub will not exist and it would have made many folks life a lot more better and spend quality time bitching in the Cricket thread instead.
Let’s face it, part 2: You guys worship them, giving them titles and addressing them as if they are some sort of holy spiritual beings. Thank god I am not like that, I will never be like you poor misguided folks and I swear this by my Lord Eastwoodanandha.
Shall I proceed to list the nominees and spit…I mean, say a few words about them? No? Hey I am here you are there. Well, I have split them in to few categories, so let’s move on.
Newcomer
There’s only one this year, and Vimal is the guy that is raved about in the Hub for his role in Kalavani. I have not seen his work and all I can say is, tough luck, Vimal, your puny existence is no match to the giant names I am going to unravel later.
Junior
I’d add two names here, the limited but talented Arya who wrestled a white guy in Madrasapattinam and best performance probably comes from the fact that he had to have a straight face whenever the white chick attempts to speak in Tamizh.
The wonderfully talented Karthi proves his mettle that though he can be awesome in Naan Mahaan Alla, he can be repetitive too, therefore guaranteeing a place in the mediocre pool of talents who seemed to be getting jobs every year. Buckle up, Karthi you need not be the next Arjun.
Senior
The nominated seniors here have fantastic following in the Hub. For one you have the notorious abdomen flasher, Surya who did astonishingly three film this year, as blood soaked gangster in Singgam, dancing actor in Raktha Charitira and crusading cop with handlebar moustache you can hang your keys on in Man Madhan Ambu. He may have appeared in Endhiran too, I am not sure, but I am suspicious about the robot that delivered Rajini’s coffee.
The senior list continues with Vikram who acted his pants out in Ravanan, an irony considering he never wore pants in the film. Needless hard work considering the female lead he is acting opposite does acting only when the director threatened with heart attack. Oh wait…never mind.
Then of course, you have the fisherman’sMGR, the bus conductor’s Rajini, the microphone’s Mohan, the stage’s Michael Jackson, the bodyguard’s Kevin Costner, the hunter’s Fred Dryer, the pasta’s Fettucine, the gourmet’s foire gras, etc, etc, the one and only….okay that part is not correct. The one among many many Vijays populating the Tamizh film industry, Joseph, who appeared as great white shark battling Richard, Roy and Robert in Sura. (if you figure this out, you win a trip to your local wine shop and get a life)
Old Folks Home
Here we have what would in another industry qualify as geezers, but they manage to huff and puff their way into the nomination list.
First would be Kamal Hassan, for his spectacular performance in Man Madhan Ambu, not unlike what he used to do back in the 70s, romancing white chick in India, then romancing local chick not in India and doing silly dances on foreign streets. Kamal and European tourism board = inseparable.
Next on is maharaja-maker, Vijayakanth, who thwacked his way to this nomination for playing an oversized cop in search of his neck in Virudhagiri. Vijayakant and neck = inseparable.
Of course this list will not be complete with the superstar himself, Rajnikanth and his wigs, fake mustaches, fake beard, fake glass, contact lens, sh!tload of make up and with the aid of computer graphics plays three characters that fall in love with Aishwarya Rai in Endhiran. Poor old man, all it took for Vikram in Ravanan was a smelly lungi. Three Rajinis and one Aiswarya = insufferable.
