Rajesh excited for his second film
After directing the commercially successful Siva Manasula Sakthi, director Rajesh M is now busy with his next venture, Boss Engira Baskaran.
“I’m extremely happy with the output,” says Rajesh, “We are currently filming four songs after which we’ll wrap up the project. We are planning to launch the audio in April and release the film in June.”
He adds, “Yuvan Shankar Raja has scored the music and I think it’s one of his best compositions.”
So, what’s Boss... all about? “The movie revolves around Arya, a fun-loving guy, and his relationship with Santhanam and Nayanthara. I can vouch that Boss... will be a feel-good entertainer. It will be a film you can watch with your entire family,” he signs off.

Not for me. I got laughed at when I said Arya was good in humour in Sarvam. What worries me was SMS was total waste of Jeeva's talent. Honestly an irritating film. Hope this one is not.

Now Arya will market the film directly with the help of a friend.

Arya’s BEB v/s Chikku Bukku

Arya after the success of Madhrasapattinam, has two films ready for release Boss Engira Baskaran and Chikku Bukku. The star feels both the films have potential to be super hits.
Manikandan directed long in the making Chikku Bukku is produced by Media One Global Entertainment. It has Arya,Shriya Saran and Preetika in the lead. It is said to be a triangular love story, with music by Colonial Cousins Hariharan and Leslie Lewis. The audio of the film will be released on August 13.
The other Arya starrer ready for release is the Rajesh directed family entertainer Boss Engira Baskaran, which has Nayanthara as heroine and music by Yuvan Shankar Raja. The film produced by Vasan Visual Ventures, was grabbed by Arya’s The Show People who have later given it to Red Giants for marketing. The audio launch of the film is scheduled for August 20.
Now the big question being asked in the trade is which of the two Arya films, Boss Engira Baskaran or Chikku Bukku will release first? The answer looks likely to be BEB, which may release on September 3.

When Siva Mansula Sakti (SMS), backed by Vikatan Talkies, worked wonders at the turnstiles, it proved a dream debut for its engineer-turned-director Rajesh. The young technician is now busy wrapping up work for his second film — Boss Engira Bhaskaran — being produced by another worthy banner, Vasan Visual Ventures, which provided the intense film, Naan Kadavul.
Rajesh is very confident about its viability. And the confidence gets a boost, now that he has been signed on by Red Giant, for their next project, in which Udayanidhi Stalin will be launched as hero. “He was impressed with my work in SMS and asked me to come up with an entertainer. I gave him a line, which he liked. We'll begin work soon,” Rajesh smiles.
Fresh pair
But at the moment his focus is on Boss … What perks up your interest in this soon-to-be-released film is its fresh cast — Arya and Nayantara come together for the first time. SMS had debutante Anuya as heroine but for Boss … Rajesh has gone in for the svelte stunner whose screen power is a given. “Basically I wanted somebody who could understand and speak Tamil,” he pauses. So was training Anuya tough? “Yes, not too many improvisations in dialogue were possible,” he pauses with a sheepish smirk. But why Nayantara, in particular? “Because she suits the role to a T — she had watched SMS and had liked it. ‘If my character appeals to me I'll do it,' she said. It did, and she was on board. Nayan's isn't a mere glam role — she has a vital part to play. And it was so easy working with her — no airs at all. If the schedule was to start at 7.30 in the morning, she was at the work spot at 7.25, made-up and ready for the shoot. A disciplined and dedicated actor,” Rajesh sings paeans to the leading lady.
“And when I talk of dedication, the same goes for Arya too — he takes a lot of pain to play a character, big or small. He did a two-scene role in SMS. That's when I got to know him well. He's done a great job,” certifies the director.
Santhanam's comic takes with Jiiva were the highpoints of SMS. “We have Santhanam in Boss … too,” laughs Rajesh. “I like his involvement … he keeps giving fresh inputs.”
A couple of songs of Boss … are being shot in Switzerland — otherwise the locations have been Tiruchi, Kumbakonam and Thanjavur. The man behind the music is Yuvan Shankar Raja. This is another director-composer team that has hit it off really well. “You're right. Even today one FM station or the other keeps playing the ‘Oru Kal … Oru Kannaadi' number from SMS. He has given us some lovely songs for Boss … too.
What's the story like? “Boss … will be a feel-good film sprinkled with spontaneous and lively humour. It showcases an interesting chapter in a young man's life. And please don't forget to add that it's a film for the entire family,” he chuckles.

August 14, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Ever since debutant Rajesh made a wholesome entertainer Siva Manasula Sakthi, the film buffs started looking out for the release of his next movie.
Nearly a year after the release of SMS, filmmaker Rajesh has completed shooting for his movie Boss Engira Bhaskaran. The film is produced by Vasan Visual Venture and is now acquired by actor Arya himself for his banner The Show People and producer Udhayanidhi Stalin of Red Giant Movies.
The film’s trailer was screened along with yesterday’s release Vamsam. The 2 minute trailer was enough to keep the audiences elated as the major portions had funny liners of Arya and Santhanam.
There happens to be a sequence where Santhanam says, “It’s really difficult to walk such a long distance to get a loan sanctioned”, for which Arya replies, “Just imagine, how many time the lender will walk to our places after giving us loan”.
Boss Engira Bhaskaran has Nayanthara performing the female lead role while Jeeva is expected to make a cameo appearance.
Yuvan Shankar Raja has scored music and Sakthi Saravanan has handled cinematography.

‘Boss Engira Bhaskaran’ audio on Aug. 27

The audio release date of ‘Boss Engira Bhaskaran’ is announced. The comedy caper directed by Rajesh is an anticipated film because Rajesh has proved his mettle in his first film ‘Siva Manasula Sakthi’. The film brings together Arya and Nayanthara together for the first time. Other cast includes Santhanam and Vijayalakshmi.
Music for the film is by Yuvan Shankar Raja and the music label is Think Music. The audio launch function is happening at the Sathyam Cinemas on this Friday, August 27. The event will be presided over by Film Producer Council Chief Rama. Narayanan. The first copy of the CD will be released by actor Surya and the same will be received by music director Harris Jayaraj.
‘Boss Engira Bhaskaran’ is a Show People film distributed by Red Giant Movies of Udhayanidhi Stalin.

It is almost confirmed that the Arya-Nayanthara romantic comedy Boss Engira Baskaran directed by Rajesh will release ahead of Arya’s other film Chikku Bukku.
The trade is talking about a September 10 release for BEB.
Among forthcoming releases the buzz on BEB is the biggest, as the trade feels it is likely to be Nayanthara’s last release in Tamil. Both director (Siva Manasulla Sakthi) and hero (Madhrasapattinam),’s last release were hits. It has made the marketing easy for Red Giants and Udhayanidhi Stalin.
There is a positive buzz about BEB, and the trailer and Yuvan’s songs are appealing. September 10 was originally slotted by the theatres for Sun Pictures Rajinikanth’s mega movie Enthiran. Now that it has been postponed to either September 24 or October 1, the slot has to be filled.
Boss Engira Baskaran, seems to be the ideal film for the big Ramzan- Vinayakachathurthi weekend falling on September 10, as family comedy entertainers are sure to draw a fantastic opening.

Certainly, post Vivek-Vadivelu, I dont think anybody is better than him. Not that there is much of competition. And recent VV-Vivek comedies have been intolerable. By default, Santhanam could be #1 now, which is obviously reflecting in # of releases and his presence in endhiran etc.

Only problem I see in Santhanam's comedy is, he is inconsistent. He rocks in one movie but goes dud in the other. At times, he is monotonous
mathapadi, he is a man to watch out for
Not only one liners, that cookery show in Vamanan is a scene that lasts for few minutes... OMG. What a performance..
This is one of the bests of Santhanam!
Way to go man!

Behindwoods Review:
Director Rajesh might just pull it off this time too because he’s got everything right for a comic caper. He also efficiently camouflages the saggy little portions in both the halves of his movie with crisply written dialogues. Perfect for a weekend in which you decide not to give your brain much work.
Verdict – Comedy is the boss!

Feel goodmovie (like many Disney movies). Better than Thillaalangadi - lot of laugh moments esp in first half.
Santhanam's jokes are all expected lines, nothing new, but still enjoyable.
Everybody did well (incl Nayan
) Boss' elder brother Sravanan deserves special mention.
Arya will chase someone in the beginning of the movie and it won't be revealed until at the end.
Songs also were not too bad.

Fantastic movie
pros:
Santhanam and his one liners, Arya, BGM, Nayan in chudidhar, all scenes, all characters
cons:
songs, Nayan at some parts
overall a very good entertainer...
Scene which my mind prominently remind:

Watched BEB yesterday at PVR. Enjoyed every bit of the movie. Arya is getting better with every movie. The movie is much better than Rajesh's previous attempt, SMS.
Only disappointment was Yuvan's songs. SMS was way better in this particular aspect. I think YSR shud cut short his movie signing spree and only concentrate on good projects.

He has signed many promising big projects like Avan Ivan, Adhibagavan, Mankatha to name a few. So, not to worry about it. KSV, Baana ellam last year sign panninadhu... Baana was signed in 2008 i think

True... Let me tell you. Yuvan proves his versatility when he does movies like PP, KT, Raam, Goa, NMA etc. But take GVP's recent movies. I can give two classic examples. Madraspattinam and IKMS. Both are different movies to break new grounds. Did he? Pookal pookum, Vamma duraimma are noteworthy tracks. But overall, for a period movie, his music was a let down. His AO stunned me!

Certain movie trailers excite me. Boss Engira Baskaran was one of them. Watched it over and over again in Behindwoods and I decided that I will watch this movie first day. The movie was every bit as I expected and was a laugh riot. The dialogues were hilarious and the casting was impeccable. The brother of Arya needs a special mention here. The chemistry between Arya and Santhanam is better than Arya/Nayanthara. After a decade I could see even my father sitting next to me was having a hearty laugh. Credit to the director for giving an uncomplicated comedy that just relies on the core values of making an entertaining movie.
I have been an ardent follower of Santhanam right from the Lollu Sabha days. His counter punching dialogues are second best to Goundamani and in the days to come I guess he will be one of the most revered comedians in Tamil cinema. When his name appeared on the title there was handful of people who clapped along with me. Quite a few sharing the same emotions I would say. In the entire industry he is the one who is making a silent but a steady progress to the top. He has already acted as a hero in a movie and most of the comic capers he shares almost equals the screen space with the hero. His next release is Endhiran along side super star which I think he has achieved in the shortest time.
He could achieve all this without imitating styles, not requiring a separate track and a different theme for himself in the movie. His roles fits in well with the movie, he looks good and doesn’t over act. His screen presence is energizing. He is an example to aspiring artists that you need not be from a cinema family; need not come from a great director's school to achieve. Knowing your limitations, choosing roles that will project your positives is good enough. Another wonderful thing is he can act as a friend to any young actor in the industry and one would feel if he really is a friend to all of them to be so comfortable in the role. We can say one thing that is common in movies of Simbu, Arya, Jeyam Ravi, Dhanush, Jeevan and Vishal and it is Santhanam. He even acted with Vijay, Ajith and Suriya. I guess someone with extra ordinary character can only gel with all of them. True Awesomeness!!
You could see that he goes about his business by keeping it simple, uncomplicated, unconventional and result oriented. Can he be called the Dhoni of Tamil cinema?
Hope he gets better roles on the days to come.
Kudos to Santhanam for his performance in BEB and all the best for the upcoming releases.

Arya held a big success party for his Boss Engira Baskaran turning out to be a huge hit.
The actor threw a party at a newly opened five star on Anna Salai in Chennai on Tuesday evening, for nearly 250 media people.
Arya was in his elements answering questions with his usual laid back style and doing one to one interviews with FM Stations and Television channels.
He patiently stood and posed individually with journalists for pictures, for their celebrity albums.
Later in the night, Arya held one more special screening of BEB for actor Madhavan, who really enjoyed watching the film. Maddy loved the movie especially the scene where Santhanam tries to remote control Arya and tell him to enact what Maddy did in Alaipayuthe!
Remember in the last two days Arya has been holding special shows of the film for Chief Minister Karunanidhi and a day later for his son, Deputy Chief Minister MK Stalin.

Actually Arya is the only actor who is very candid about the non-acting part. He in fact goes the extra mile by allowing his co-actors, technicians to mock him on that. No faking/pretentiousness. Way to go Arya.

even i watched it and laughed it all the way...
sandhanam did a great job and sidelined Arya... Arya suited the character well, very good characterisation of a vettippayal for most part of the movie...
someone was speaking abt aryas bad comedy, i liked his unintentional comedy in Arindhum Ariyamalum. Though I agree that he has to very much improve his expressions, in one scene sandhanam mocks him in the true sense.
and speacial show for madhavan was for precaution, when watching the movie it was irking when he called madhavan as "avan" in that scene.

First half was pretty good, thanks mainly to Santhanam. The jokes dried up in the second half but was not as torcherous as SMS at least. Sandhaanam comedy scenes (3-4 of them were really good) Adithya Channel-la paarthuttu sirichittu pogalaam. Another overrated film.
PS: That bit-kkE bit bit was already used in Vijay's Badri right? (which in turn was from a Telugu film!)

Boss (a) Baskaran (U) has all the makings of a winner, if you can forget the climax where Rajesh's imagination seems to have dried up. Arya, who made you laugh your lungs out in some of the scenes in his debut, Arindhum Ariyaamalum, goes for it again — this time in a completely light-hearted caper. Teaming up with Santhanam, the hero does his bit to make matters rip-roaring.
Diversity marks Arya's choice of roles. So you see him perform comedy with élan in Boss … after a serious character in Madrasapattinam.
Baskaran (Arya) or Boss, as he is known, is a wastrel, who has been struggling for years to become a graduate, in vain. He falls in love with the examiner Chandrika (Nayantara) and if you think that it's going to motivate him to study and clear the exams, you are wrong. Rajesh has avoided predictability, which enhances viewer interest in Boss …
In the scene where Arya ogles at Shakila, the new teacher at the tutorial, and turns towards Santhanam and earnestly says, “Inga Yaenda Kootikittu Vandhae?” (“Why did you bring her here?), he has you in splits. Such witty one-liners sprinkled throughout the film exemplify Rajesh's yen for healthy levity. In fact, clean comedy is the USP of Boss … Another gratifying aspect is that the film has no item number. Rajesh knows the pulse of the audience. The third duet is redundant but thankfully Chitra Lakshmanan, who is brought in as the villain in the song, lends a comic twist to the sequence.
Nayantara looks ravishing and her costume designer, Nalini Sriram, deserves special mention. The wardrobe spells elegance and accentuates Nayan's slim-trim look. Sporting a suppressed smile whenever she witnesses Arya's humorous takes, her reactions are a joy to watch.
Boss … is easily Santhanam's best fun sojourn till date and the actor outdoes the comic strips he offered in SMS. As it is a full-length humour feature, all major and minor characters, including Lakshmi Ramakrishnan and Ashwin Raja (the gluttonous son of Velpandi), contribute to the fun. Yet among all of them, Subbu Panchu, who plays the elder brother of Arya, stands out.
Probably only Rajesh can think of giving Rajendran, the menacing villain of Naan Kadavul, a light-hearted don's role!
Kumbakonam and its surroundings and the songs filmed abroad stand testimony to Sakthi Saravanan's skilful cinematography. Dinesh's dance choreography for the ‘Ada Boss …' piece, and Arya's adept footwork, particularly for the ‘Yaar Indha Penn Dhaan' song where an entire charanam has been shot without cuts, deserve kudos.
If Arya made a guest appearance in SMS, Jiiva returns the compliment here. Making an entry towards the end as Chandrika's sophisticated suitor, he ends up revealing himself as a native guy with a weakness for liquor. Jiiva's sudden turnabout is the point where Rajesh takes the viewer for granted — hence the finale fails to tickle. Yet despite its share of flaws, Boss … is enjoyable.
Healthy entertainer worth a watch!

Watched the movie.. one of the good movies i watched in recent.... no story.. no twists.. no message..

I had a good time laughing heartily to all silly antics of Santy and Arya. Now I had no big opinion abt Santy and was genuinely surprised by the fluidity he made me laugh at things that were definitely not laughable on paper. this is not a master piece or anything, but another proof that with just about right timing, anything can be made into a joke making ppl laugh. Arya kept his cool self and made sure that he did not try to be a karthik in front of gounder, just kept his Ramarajan self (wrt Comic sense) and let the jokes run on their own legs.

saw this on pvr blore nightshow...
to my surprise found housefull after2 weeks that too with 6 shows per day here..great word of mouth..
director has succeeded in engaging the audience with laughter throughout the movie with
out any story...cant stop laughing..really enjoyed the movie...

Dead pan expressions and willing to let the jokes flow. Another
for accepting to act in a movie with no fight scenes.
Nayan - Song sequences with over makeup :uvve:. But in loves-u scenes and book-u pottu vithuru (adhaanga vekkam) scenes, she looks nice

Santhanam - A second hero role. He has done decently. romba aahaa ohoo-nu solra alavukku illai (Honestu
). annan maadhiri counter kudukkara oru sila scene-la (or just before) thiru vizhaa-la kaanaama pona kozhandhai expression konjam suit aagalai. One-liners were mostly good and well uttered. "Devayaanai"
. One less mentioned scene I really liked - Nayan-oda appaa Jeeva-kitta "In India traffic jam is very very common", Santhanam turns to Vinayagar and gives an EKSI expression

Yuvan - oru paattu kooda pudikkalai. Light hearted entertainer-ngaradhaala romba light-a eduthukkittaaro. Baana Kaathaadi maaadhiriyaavadhu potturukkalaam
Others - Arya annan, almost a direct reference to Bagyaraj
("andha malligaippoo konjam extra"). Jeeva (or is it Jiiva) also
("ankil ankil"). Director, maybe innum oru padam idhe maadhiri edukkalaam (peraru nadicha adhuvum kashtam), so konjam ushaar aavunga.

The film follows a predictable path and in the lines of SMS. The director shows great promise and we need to commend him.
-Arya shows very good improvement in his acting skills but still needs to work on reflecting his emotions in his face. Improving!!!
- Santhanam was just awesome, lots of laughs....this guy rocks. When he tries to mimic other comedians he falls short......your own style rocks Santhanam...keep going in that direction.
- Jeeva's cameo was excellent, great dailogue delivery, timing and dictition. Good Job Jeeva, acting skills are superior.
-Nayan, does not seem to impress may be it is due to the Prabhu Deva factor.
Music is a big let down and does not cater to the audience nor strikes a positive chord.
Overall: Evoking laughter to a highest degree.
