watched it yesterday
ajith had limited screen time, imo. not his best effort, but he looked competent. also big
for him (since he's one of the 3 in the story, screenplay section) for allowing other roles to shine.
Sampath was cool. I Liked frenchu police Daniel
and Sadam hussein (pradeep mama).
Don Samsa was good too. Few
scenes
First 10 mins were 007-esque. The eagle view shots from Eiffel tower, the action sequence after that, ajith intro and the sameera song.. all bond style

ASAL Dhamaka At Box Office
It’s been a very long time since Ajith Kumar had a perfect hit in his career. With a span of around 8 years, the actor could deliberately come up with not more than 3 successful films. But, it’s a win situation for the actor as his recent release ASAL has topped at the box office now.
According to one of the distributors with anonymity, he has clearly admitted that ASAL had a very big opening (Ajith happens to be the one of the actors having grand opening ever amongst main league superstars) for the first 4 days. Most of the screens are occupied with house-packed shows in almost all the centres.
According to the predictions of trade analysts, the film will exceed above-the-line of profit levels if the shows are continuously full for next three days. In Kerala, the film was sold out for a comparatively low price to any other star-valued film and has witnessed tremendous results.
Likely, Ajith Kumar’s stunning speech at CM Felicitation ceremony has possibly seems to have gained more publicity for the film in an indirect mode.
More than all, the most of the blogging buffs in Kollywood including Vishal, Trisha and others have openly appreciated Ajith Kumar for having expressed his views that they couldn’t do it earlier.

TO say the least.. heavily DISAPPOINTED..
marana mass madhiri marana mokkai.. .
oorukai madhiri oru sila.. vegu sila idangale nalla irundhadhu..
any commercial action film needs a good villain.. in this all are like caricatures.. "Paneer pushpangal" Suresh .. wasted .. pesama avaraye main villain aakirukkalam
Ajith was good looking in few scenes (especially first fight + opening song) .. but consistency is not there..
Baradwaj BGM .. James Bond theme uruvals (nane adhai kandupudichutten)..
some dialogues here & there.. nicely written..
+ves..
Basha Anandraj
"rambhayum oorvasiyum madhiri rendu sightunga.. ada ada ada"
edhuva irundhalum done'ah irukkanum.. Sameera & Bhavana
few mins before (in the residence of lawyer) was OK..
Marumagan:
senthil: idhuvavadhu minjuchenu sandhosapadunga
GM: idhu minjunadhukku edhukkuda sandhosapadanum
Yuvan BGM is missing for this... Billa interval BGM ellam chanceless .. ini onnum panna mudiyadhu.. anyhow
I wish Ajith does back - back films with GM & Shankar ( echoing hubber Maddy's views)

I am one of the Vijay Fans, i accept that Vettaikaran wasnt one the great movies of Vijay. But i was watching the thread of the same quite sometime, i was able to read the review of few people including you posting the positives and negatives of Vettaikaran!. It was your feel and nobody strongly objected as you did when a vijay fan did for Aasal.
I watched Asal yesterday here in chennai@Sathyam. Show was full packed, Movie started swiftly. The movie went on pretty fast paced. Ajith was as usual show stealer, couldnt take my eyes of him though the movie had 2 heriones! Yugi sethu managed to keep laughter amongst the crowd. Camera work Cool at places! Movie was decent to watch once!
2 Scenes i liked most!
1. Yugi asking Thala edukanuma? - Prabu saying varathae thala than!
2. When bhanvana and sameera cronered- smoke comes first b4 ajith - Cool
Except for above things, there is nothing much to say abt this movie!
Story - Very old format(Please don say anything or scold me i felt the same so).
Songs & BG- Bharadwaj must retire.
We cant add this movie to Ajith's Best ones which has Vaali, Billa.

Forgot to say onething most heroes they say punch dialogues abt them on their own!
Found in this movie that, villan says punch dialogue for hero..
In Climax Sampath saying:
"Thappa irunthalum, thanku sari pattatha sariya seivan"
i hope this was wat exactly said by him..

Just like that you can't tell my way of reply wasn't right, i know how to take both positive and negative reviews about my favourite star movie's.
http://mayyam.com/hub/viewtopic.php?...light=#2033540
No one said anything for his review including me. But when in the name of review someone questioned our credibility, i exposed their credibility.
N also every single hubber knows who tried/trying to save the film and what kind of responce/respect they got when they posted their review sometimes back.
Now talking like a Dalai Lama won't help to make them to forgot those incidents.

Can feel the heat in your reply, i never supported Gopi's comment
Simply it goes this way, Whomever says, shouts or watever, worst movies will be trashed! It s wat tamil fans are known for!
You, me and all knows this very well. I know you will accept the facts, as you are very much senior hubber than me! i dint complain about it. See the heat in ur reply, that s wat i meant!
I don know much how dalai lama will speak, i spoke in my way
one thing i just want to tell all ajith and vijay fans:
Both(vettai&asal) the movies getting mixed reviews than their earlier movies getting only negative reviews, seems like a good sign for better success in future 4 both the gaints.
We can keep aside all the fights we had. We are in the best forum with good moderation activity going all around us, not like some crappy forum. Lets use it to the most!

http://tamilcinema.com/CINENEWS/REVIEW/2010/aasal.asp

Aasal/ Asal tops Malayasian box office
'Thala' Ajith's most-awaited flick Aasal (also spelt Asal) released worldwide on February 5. The movie is produced by Sivaji Productions and directed by Saran, with music by Bharadwaj. The cast also includes Prabhu and Yuhi Sethu.
Aasal brings the Ajith-Saran combo together for the fourth time after Kadhal Mannan, Amarkalam and Attagasam. Sameera Reddy and Bhavana are the two leading ladies. The film is a complete entertainer with action, suspense, love and betrayal
Aasal opened in 500 screens worldwide. In Chennai, the film graced 13 screens. For the first time, the Star has involved himself thoroughly with the script and dialogues of his movie. In fact, watch out for his name under the list of writers for Aasal!
The latest we hear is that Aasal has topped the Malayasian box office. In fact, this is the second Tamil actor's movie after Superstar Rajinikanth to be at the No. 1 spot in the box office. Aasal was released in across 35 cinema theatres in Malaysia by Lotus Five Star.
Meanwhile, Ajith's fans in Bangalore celebrated Asal's release like never before. They decorated the huge Aasal hoarding with a massive flower garland costing Rs. 18,000.

ASAL makes it big across all centres
Here’s yet another big surprise from Ajith Kumar’s ‘ASAL’. After a very-very long time, the film has exceeded everyone’s expectations…. Yes, one of the distributors of ASAL had openly revealed the current status of box office collections.
The film has been released across 41 centres and is completely booked with house-packed for the first 5 days. As a matter of fact, the biggest production house ready to release its film on Feb 12 is struggling find theatres since theatre owners have decided to screen the film for next couple of weeks.
Sivaji Production is overwhelmed with tremendous response over the film and so are the distributors as well. In the recent times, none of the films have yielded so much profit for any mainstream actors’ film and this one is a clear illustration of ultimate success in Ajith Kumar’s career.

watched move with my brother for fourth time ...my brother a rajini fan really like the movie lot and say that this move rock than billa
between today show full packed in pj state and couldnt get ticket so watched in gsc midvaley that too in 2nd row with full of audience
i will tell he is rocking star after rajini in malaysia because some of reasons:-
first its not release in school holiday or public holiday time..but open in 36 screens
compete with other many tamil films
never promote well by the local company
no such big ad in paper or in brickfields area
or no any advertisement in sun tv,sunmusic.velithirai or vanavil
he is the real ultimate star eventhough he dont want that title

ASAL - Kumudam Review

saw aasal......,
well as said by ajith himself aasal is for his fans....and it is 100% true...the film at no point drags or is predictable which is a gud sign as far as commercial cinema is concerned...ajith again is style personified...as sampath says in the film itself"unakku mattum speciala oru routu"...and the father charecter was superb...ajith was so convincing on screen...the film is racy and stylishly picturised through out, tamil "hero" films r comin out of this cliched punch dialouges, flying stunts thanks to ajith...
and the flip side....the story which isnt new and the writers have put in maximum effort to hide and cover the oldness in the story...in the performances....sameera impressed me out of the lot..and i like this man sampath...he fits the bill for the next raguvaran,he is the most stylish after ajtih in the film...and yugi sethu...wonder y he isnt doing more films...and music is a big let down,so as the picturisation of the songs....
well asal is not the most different film in the world..but keeps you hooked through out..very entertaninig..but keep in mind it is made for ajith fans...and me being a fan too loved the film as a n ajith fan....THALA POLA VARUMA!!!!!!!!

Asal “High on Style” - Review by The Hindu
Director: Saran
Cast: Ajithkumar, Prabhu, Sameera Reddy, Bhavana, Sampath, Rajeev Krishna, Kelly Dorgi, Yugi Sethu and Suresh
Storyline: Two brothers decide to bump off the half brother who stands between them and the family property. But, it is not that simple.
Bottomline: High on style, low on content. Strictly for Ajith fans
Two brothers and a half brother in conflict — over their father’s affections, property and the way business should be conducted — make for an interesting premise. And, considering the high-profile team involved — director Saran, Ajith (sans his ‘Ultimate Star’ title), Sivaji Productions and music director Bharadwaj — you expect the fireworks to begin in right earnest.
Sadly, it does not. What strikes you, though, is the style quotient. When a lissom Sameera Reddy, playing cultural attaché Sarah, walks down the fashion streets of Paris in the opening sequence, the tone is set for all the designer labels to come calling! Bhavana (Sulabha) ends up sporting some distinct fashion disasters.
As for Ajith, the man oozes style in a double role! The spiked hair, the side burns, the suits… and the silence sit beautifully on him. Ajith debuts as co-director with this movie and is also credited with the dialogue, story and screenplay along with Saran and Yugi Sethu (who also stars in the film).
The plot
Arms dealer Jeevanathan (Ajith, the father), who operates out of Paris, rejects an opportunity to sell arms to terrorists. Sons Sam (Sampath) and Vicky (Rajiv Krishna) want to take on Mumbai-based don Shetty (Kelly Dorgi) and bag the deal, while Shiva (Ajith, the third son) and Jeevanathan are against it.
Ajith Sr is bumped off and the legitimate sons sign a deal with the arms cartel, influenced by their evil uncle Kali (Pradeep Rawat) and aided by Paris policeman Daniel (Suresh).
Vicky is kidnapped by Shetty and taken to Mumbai. Shiva rushes to his rescue. In Mumbai, he stays with Mirasi (Prabhu), his father’s friend, and meets a moon-struck Bhavana, Don Samsa (Yugi Sethu) and team. He eliminates the dreaded Shetty effortlessly, and rescues his brothers, but is shot at by them and presumed drowned. Little surprise, he returns to Paris and vows vengeance. He sees Sarah, who has forcibly been turned a druggie, rescues her and kills Vicky.
From here, you expect the storyteller called Saran to take over and lend the proceedings some finesse and depth. You expect some mind game, some intelligent decimation of the villains. But, some fisticuffs, flying stunts and an electrocution later, the film closes to its end.
The performances are measured, but the characterisation could have been better. Everything is either black or white; there’s no grey zone. Ajith’s acting is in keeping with the film’s tagline, ‘The power of silence’; he has few lines, and you see the emotion in his eyes when the glares come off!
Kelly is hopelessly miscast as the villain Shetty; he is just not menacing enough. And, what a waste of talents such as Sampath (barring the scene where he sees his brother dead) and Suresh. Bhavana, cast in a girl-woman role, has little to do but look longingly at the hero. Sameera fares a little better. Prabhu is his mellow, dignified self even while sporting floral shirts.
Prashanth D Misale’s cinematography is top class, capturing Paris and Mumbai in all their glorious beauty; Anthony’s editing is tight too — the film is just over two hours long, and art director Prabhakar’s sets are classy. The music by Bharadwaj is a let-down, with few hummable numbers.
As you leave the theatre, some questions linger. Does Daniel work for the Paris police or for Sam? And, women looking on happily as the hero blows a ring of smoke around them is regressive to say the least. And, a team with a history of success could have come up with a more layered script, surely!

CBO - February 12 to 14
My Name is Khan says the CBO, as the SRK film took a dream opening! There was a sympathy wave for King Khan across Chennai city and the film grossed an astonishing Rs 38.65 lakhs from six screens and is number one by a mile.
At number two is Vishal’s Theeratha Vilayattu Pillai, which opened well but carried mixed reports.
Ajith’s Aasal has been pushed down to third position after a fantastic opening weekend, clearly spelling out that no amount of style can replace content. The number of shows of the film at multiplexes has been drastically reduced in the second week.
In fourth position is Tamil Padam, which is rock steady and still doing full houses during weekends in multiplexes.
Finally Goa hangs on in the fifth place.
Aasal
Cast: Ajithkumar, Sameera Reddy, Bhavana, Prabhu, Sampath
Director: Saran
Plus :Style, Ajith
Minus :Songs, story

Sameera may not pair up opposite Ajit in his 50th film
Sameera Reddy is quite happy nowadays as her latest film ‘Asal’ opposite Ajit has been doing good business at all the centres in the State. She is also ecstatic about the fact that after delivering back-to-back hits in ‘Vaaranam Aayiram’ and ‘Asal’, she had been signed up by Gautam Menon to play Ajit’s lead in the latter’s landmark 50th film.
Gautam had reportedly taken a liking to Sameera Reddy after casting her opposite Suriya in ‘Vaaranam…’ and after the film’s success, had assured her that he would soon be signing her up for a new film. Menon had told Samera, it is rumoured, that she would be Ajit’s love interest in his 50th film, which would be directed by Menon himself.
Ajit, meanwhile, has tacitly told Menon that he would like to be associated with a fresh ‘face’ for his 50th film and had reportedly asked Menon to look for another heroine. This has put aside Menon’s hopes of casting Sameera in his film. Now that she can’t hope to work with him, Menon has reportedly decided to cast Sameera in another film as heroine in which he plans to introduce actress Maheshwari’s brother as the hero!

there are chances that Saran reads this thread & understands what he did
btw.. Sameera & Bhavana rendu pEru irukkumpOdhu.. Villain Sampath edhukku Prabhu-va kodumai paduthuvaru .. ivara director'ah pOtta karanathukka
Some major -ves for me:
1. No big villain (not saying about the actor.. but the character)
2. Action sequences are not that great.. atleast 3 fights are shown like.. "maraividathukku poyittu.. dommu dommunu saththam mattum varum (this is how Baradwaj's RR is).. then Ajith comes out .. this is the case for the opening fight too
// no need to say, being a fan of VK I like to see more of a hand-leg co-ordination in fights (remember Pulan Visaranai climax & more)
3. Expected, the film picks up speed after Ajith senior's death .. but Yugi Sethu (on-screen) spoils that too.. < i never liked his kind of comedy even from 5 tricks >
main matter'laye sarukkittadhale.. maththadhellam edupadalai
In his career.. if u want to select best onscreen villain for Ajith .... its none other than Ajith himself..
remember
Vaali
Varalaru
Billa
Amarkalam < most part its a -ve character >
Attagasam
if u select best team.. the job is half done.. GVM will do it good, I hope.. & most of u know I wished to see GVM directing VK.. thats the kind of belief I have over GVM's action flicks

I agree with you totally on the constructive Criticism aspect.
Naan itheye music release anathum sonnen...some people here made a meal of the message I posted.
I was not very happy with the Music and BGM Aspect. the film was O.K IMO...Nothing great but certainly not bad. The only thing I really hated in the movie was that all the songs in the movie was forced except kattrai niruthi kelu.
On the +ve Side Ajith and Sameera
and the Cameraman
kalakitaru...
It is O.K if you give this kinda movies once in 6 months but 1.3 Yrs eduthutu intha mathiri padam theva illa...Innum nalla story la concentrate panna nalla irrukum.
Thala should stop acting in SARAN + Baradwaj + Vairamuthu

New song added to ‘Asal'
These are the times when films are getting chopped post release for various reasons mostly to make the film more crisp and interesting according to directors.
However, Sivaji Productions and Saran are doing just the opposite. Their just released ‘Asal’ film will have one more song added to it from this week.
The number 'Yengay Yengay....' which was there in the music album did not feature in the film as the makers initially felt that it would disturb the pace of the movie. Even the much talked about 'Em Thandhai...' was made to appear in parts to make it smooth.
At the audio launch Ajith said 'Yengay Yengay....' was his favourite song as it speaks about his life and journey, the insult and back-stabbings he encountered in his life. So Sivaji Productions has decided to satisfy Ajith fans by adding their ‘Thala’s beloved song.
This new addition has brought cheers to Ajith fans, and they say they will watch the film again to see the song. 'Yengay Yengay....' is penned by Vairamuthu and sung by S P Balasubramaniam.

Official News : Engey Engey To Be Added From Tomorrow
We have been informed by Asal producers that, the most expected "ENGEY ENGEY" is to be added from tomorrow (Feb 20, 2010) morning shows in all theatres which has reel and QUBE systems.
Previously, Ajith fans were disappointed on exclusion of that song. Everyone expected that song to rock, since Ajith said that it was his favorite song as it resembles almost his own life. But they were disappointed since it was excluded.
Ajith fans around the globe continuously contatced Sivaji Productions through phone and E-mail and requested to add that song. On fans' request, Sivaji Productions has decided to add that song to the film from tomorrow morning shows.
However, our website visitors informed us that, the song was shown in Shanthi Cinemas today itself.

i feel that he can still keep his stylish sense of clothing because after style is style nothing wrong with that however what really went wrong with asal was the poor storyline and direction by saran it was nothing new all ajith really needs to do is make sure that he selects a good script with a good director! otherwise the style of his dressing and all is superb

Just watched asal.
Story had potential but story stelling kinda didnt hold anything at place in the beginning.
Blazers and coolers are ok... but should've been avoided during songs.
seeing Normal ajith in the songs were nice.
Goutham's movie should be a good one though.

Thanks bro.And u may think that i am degrading ajith.
But i am insisting again that
ajith is going to reduce his body.
(may b equal to 6 packs).
For his 50th film.

"enakku kadhal vandhadhu" song is one of my fav Ajith song..
now every Ajith fan wants him to act in soft roles... completing the circle

Asal
Finally. Why finally? Not an Ajith fan, but being NT's fan, I'd love to know what his home production is up to.
Downside:
- Overt heroism.
- Excessive "Thala" wordplay
- again, excessive slo-mo shots.
- Prabhu. Unnecessary.
- Yugi Sethu's misfired comedy
- Daddy Ajith. Athey getup, except they are grey...come on!
- Poor performance from supporting (including the laughably bad villain), except, maybe Sampath.
Upside
- Ajith. Plays within his strength, excude enough cool factor and carried the film
- Good fight sequences...most often without use of wire to my delight, Ajith finally convinces me that he can make a good tough guy.
- Fast paced, except for some dull moments involving the gals.
- Suresh. Welcome back. You were never great then, but you are definitely good here.
- BIlla hangover. Why it's not a downside? Because I like Billa.
- Ajith again. Like how I feel about Sarath Kumar of late, I think Ajith knows that he is not Rajini nor is he Kamal. He has his own limitation and is working around it. Unlike certain rival, he does not look like an idiot, or do circus show and attempt to overstretch himself. This film or Billa is not going to make me a fan, but I would certainly watch his next project.
