I haven't heard gilli fully. Didn't care much for apdi podu. If I had to choose a kuthu fom vs, it'd be vaadi vaadi naattukattai - but thankfully I don't have to. As far as north indies go, it is well known in these parts that I don't give much thought to their preferences. In the end, I can like only what appeals to me. Nor do I go by peer pressure - I don't expect neranja manasu to be in even honestaj's list

I've always thought 'paRavaiyE' is a wonderful song (and also that it unfortunately ended up overshadowing the brilliant 'paRa paRa pattAmpUchchi'), but I think you guys are somewhat overrating it by pitching it as the song of the decade.
But it is undoubtedly a peak for Yuvan. No two ways about it.

As I have said earlier, except in extreme cases, this album v OST distinction is smaller than we like to agonize about. Unnai vida stripped off context will still trounce every single attempted melody in VA. adhai inge vaikkamudiyAdhu, ange vaikka mudiyAdhunnA light-A conpees aagurEn. That is all.
VA - like you once mentioned about early Rahman (amaidhi ARR fans, drop those aruvaals, just a very specific analogy here) - has a very impressive consistency. However, 1-2 songs dummy-aanaalum, the others may even be better albumns overall.

The one time I heard something original and fresh from Harris was in Minnale...maybe Samurai. After that I keep hearing him and elements from the other composers again and again. It's easy to spot Harris' sound. Yuvan, on the other hand, seemed to be able to reinvent himself, to find new sounds. Definitely one of the best to arrive the last two decades

Very very understated, yet blending well with the difficult theme the movie tried to unravel. Though I did not like the movie on the whole as much as I would, the music, I felt was really outstanding. It was a different ARR album - with a lot of soul, no necessitated crowd pleasing antics and choice of singers very apt and lyrics too were very good (no unnecessary silambaattam here). Since there is no Pithamagan in the list of choices, I naturally voted for Kannathil - a true masterpiece from the combination of Rahman and Mani.

Kannathil is gazillion times better than shivaji stuff - idhai oru ARR or Rajini fanaa illaama ennaala solla mudiyum. I didnt vote for virumandi because Raasappu has done better rural folk albums than that.
I didn't vote for dumm dumm dumm because in my opinion it had two awesome songs 'Ragasiyamaai' and 'Un perai sonnaale', but there were some thamizh murders along the way and speaking of thamizh murder in daylight, the award goes to Shivaji (Madhushree and Udhith are enough and reasons why I dont even want to listen to the much acclaimed Sahana and Vaaji vaaji vaaji - sambal saambal song)and some portions of 7GRC - that is why i didn't vote for those albums. Kannaththil is by far the cleanest in terms of diction, musical quality and depth.
I did not vote for VA simply for the pseudoness surrounding indian singers trying to sing like hip hop singers from US of A. It was a major irritation and all the extended monagals trying to mimic R&B and hip hop singers without an iota of understanding of why the orginal singers sang in that fashion was at best funny.
Saving grace was provided by Nenjukkul Peidhidum maamazhai and Anul mele paniththuLiye. Mundhinam paarthen tune is pedestrian and Surya's dialogues before a major dhrishti pottu for the song.

Ok, folks, there is a lot of premium placed in this thread on how many times in a week you still hear sivaji or virumandi or km as a measure. To me, that's not a measure at all. I haven't heard either viru or ddd in months. But I can recall every phrase of many of the songs when I like. That is quality. Same is true of kks. This is my personal truth and for pure musical reasons, I could have chosen any of the 3. I chose ddd though accoding to my politics, viru should have been my choice.
Too much emphasis is placed on quantity of istening. If you actually analyse your preference, you"ll realise that it is those which don't need a physical listening to reaffirm your bond with them, those ae the ones you really like and favour. This is true of everyone. Ideally, if everyone votes as per that, you'll get a picture of what songs have permeated souls - needless to say, raja and rahman will be top of the list, then.

Chinmayi is really brilliant as a debutant vera enna venum she has got the right notes and her diction is perfect. KS Chitra the veteran singer herself called her appreciated.
ARR can give KKS or Boys anyday and he has given several songs/album in the past but KM is highly unique and an all time great!

And as for KM, it doesnt beat KKS for me. It simply cannot be the best for me. The movie itself didnt touch me. While KKS was served by a much inferior movie, the album touched me like no other of Rahman - not just this decade, but any. KKS and Swades are my all time favourite Rahman albums - I even nominated Desam in this thread - and thats the very reason for doing that. adhanAla, KM cannot even come in my shortlist so....

1st interlude it looks like the bass is running counter to the keyboard.

while one is about acceptance of a girl by a group, the other one is about a group conversing about a girl's character. common theme is that it is discussion about someone else by a group musically. The playfulness of sundhari is not in anjali which is set in a melancholic mood (underlying theme). Sundhari is also about how a kid is not setting right into a group, while anjali is about how the kid is being accepted - therein lie the difference between the two thematically and hence the musical exposition also is different - creating completely contrasting moods though the underlying template and input to the composers is the same by the same diratakkar. I think Rajini and ARR fans are polarized their votes towards Sivaji. I don't think hub has so many Rajini fans. Is it okay if I vote for Sivaji and announce publicly that I voted for ARR, because this is the only movie which can possibly win the elections from ARR's list. Please suggest.

Roshan is obvious miss for me from the KH fans list. During Dasavathaaram times there was discussion about KH fans and it was mentioned somewhere that there are 25 KH fans in this forum. I may be wrong.

"Best MD of the decade" thread - will be the solution to the above said problems. The issue here is the choice of the films that the MDs have composed. Lets leave alone the heroes and concentrate only on the MDs.

YSR ellam has given some genuine hits in the past decade and the same goes to HJ as well.
