I have seen one tamil horror movie when I was a kid. Mohan was a pei. The story goes like a big family buys a new house but adhula oru pei irruku. Mohan was an atheist so avaruku pei pudichurum.

Thoranai's red carpet premiere in Malaysia
We’ve known that out actors and their films command a huge market abroad, especially in Malaysia, Singapore and Sri Lanka, but ever heard of a foreign premiere for a Tamil film? In a one-of-its-kind event, Vishal and Shreya, the lead pair of Thoranai, will walk the red carpet together, to attend the premiere of their film, on May 21 at Malaysia.
The film is produced by Gk Film Corporation, and sources contend that Malaysia has been chosen for the premiere owing to Vishal’s large following in the region. The film is hitting screens worldwide on May 21, and is a bilingual, released as ‘Pista’ in Telugu. Apart from participating in the premiere, the duo are expected to interact with fans there as well.
The film is said to be a comic caper, directed by debutant Saba Ayyappan. He has earlier worked as assistant to Boopathy Pandian and Mouli.
The film is produced by Gk Film Corporation, and sources contend that Malaysia has been chosen for the premiere owing to
Vishal’s large following in the region.

June release schedule
By Moviebuzz | Friday, 05 June , 2009, 10:37
As per release schedule, June will see a lot of small and medium budget movies in the Rs 2.5 to Rs 5 crore range making its way to the cinema halls.
The schools have reopened and another T:20 tournament has started. The box office is very bad, as highly hyped films like Thoranai has bombed miserably, creating panic in the trade. Meanwhile the show must go on. Here is a tentative list of dozen films that are likely to release this month.
June 5- Kulir 100 Degree, Mayandi Kudumbathar, Thalaiezhuthu
June 12- Masilamani, Raghava, Nee Unnai Arinthal, Manjal Veyil
June 19- Malayan, Vedigundu Murugesan, Achamundu Achamundu
June 26- Nadodigal, Valmiki, Mutthirai

Diwali Dhamaka fireworks
By Moviebuzz | Wednesday, 24 June , 2009, 10:10
2009 Diwali (October 17), has potential for the biggest ever clash in Kollywood in recent times.
Vijay’s Vettaikaran will take on Suriya’s Aadhavan, this Diwali as per trade sources.
Sources close to Vijay has confirmed that the star who has completed 70 percent of Vettaikaran is targeting it as his Diwali film.
It gives him a clear eight months to release his 50th Golden Jubilee film Urumai Kural for May 2010.
Meanwhile Udayanidhi Stalin and his Red Giant Pictures have confirmed to the trade that their Suriya’s Aadhavan directed by K.S Ravikumar is scheduled for October 17 worldwide. The marketing of the film has started in full swing.

Three new fims hit the screen :
Sundar C in Aintham Padai
Karan in Malayan
Vinay in Modhi Vilaiyaadu
In Kollywood, right from MGR’s days, only action heroes have gone on to become superstars like Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan (his mass action movies have grossed more than his romance or off-beat films). Ajith and Vijay started their careers as soft romantic heroes, but later shifted completely to the action genre and became superstars overnight. Today, Suriya, after Ayan, has joined the club, lending credence to the belief in the industry that action heroes rule supreme and have a longer shelf life at the box-office.
This has led to a piquant situation in Kollywood as everybody wants to become an action hero! Today, three new small films in the Rs 5 to 7 crore category — Aindham Padai, Malayan and Modhi Vilayadu — are releasing. The heroes of these films, Sundar C, Karan and Vinay Rai, have only one aim and that is to either to strengthen or establish their action hero images. The trade feels the success of these films is a pointer to the future.
Says Sundar C, mass masala director-turned-action hero, “Take my career graph as a hero. I have done six films out of which four have been successful at the box-office. My Aindham Padai is a family entertainer laced with action and other commercial ingredients. I feel that I’m a star who has an opening, thanks to my action hero image.”
Aindham Padai has a small town milieu and is about a joint family which faces trouble due to the machinations of a woman played by Simran.
Meanwhile, Karan, who has played villain and character roles for a decade before turning into an action hero with Kokki, is pinning hope on his Malayan. “For me, the most important thing is the story and it should have sentiments and comedy, apart from some action. I also try to give it a small town or rural background setting as it attracts my audiences. I strongly feel that it is the audiences who decide the image of a star,” says Karan.
For Malayan, he has set the story in Sivakasi against the fireworks industry background. The film shows how the workers involved in the industry are being exploited by unscrupulous businessmen. It is highly coincidental, that last week’s fire accident in the Sivakasi cracker factory, which killed over a dozen people, finds resonance in the plot line.
A closely guarded secret is that Vinay Rai, the soft romantic hero of Unnale Unnale and Jayam Kondan, is turning into an action hero with Modhi Vilayadu. When quizzed about it, Vinay refused to reveal the plot of the film. Says Vinay, “My last two releases have done well. I want to experiment as I don’t want to be a one-film wonder. I grew up watching several English action movies, which I thoroughly enjoyed. There is action in MV, but I am not looking at joining the bandwagon of action heroes, as I just want to try something different.”
It looks like when it comes to Tamil cinema, it’s action all the way!

Five Tamil films this Friday!
By Moviebuzz | Tuesday, 22 September , 2009, 11:31
There are going to be five Tamil releases this Friday (Sep 25). They are, Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru, Arumugam, Suryan Satta Kallori, Kannukulle, Oru Kadhalan Oru Kadhali.
The pick of the lot seems to be Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru (T4), a breezy romantic comedy directed by Nandini JS, featuring Ajmal and Rupa. It has peppy songs by Mani Sharma and will get the youth audiences.
The Bharath- Priyamani starrer Arumugam has been long in the making and is directed by mass director Suresh Krishna. Suryan Satta Kallori produced by Sivasakthi Pandian and directed by Pavan with newcomers in the lead is set in a law college.
Kannukulle is depending on Ilayaraja’s music and has Aparna Pillai and Mithun in the lead and is directed by Lena Moovendar. Little is known about the other release Oru Kadhalan Oru Kadhali.

Bharath - High anxiety!
By Moviebuzz | Thursday, 24 September , 2009, 11:58
A lot is riding on Suresh Krishna directed Arumugam releasing this Friday for Bharath.
After Palani in 2007, the actor had a string of flops Nepali, Muniyandi Vilangiyal Moonramandu, Seval.
Now Arumugam has been long in the making, but there is a positive buzz around the film in the trade. It is a typical mass masala entertainer, catering to the B & C audiences. The Bharath-Priyamani desert song is said to be very glamorous.
Another plus point for the film is the highly publicized role of Ramya Krishnan, who according to the grapevine is repeating her arrogant negative Neelambari Padyappa act.
Ramya –Bharath confrontation scenes are sure to be liked by the masses.

November has no K’wood biggies!
By Moviebuzz | Saturday, 31 October , 2009, 14:57
http://sify.com/movies/tamil/fullstory.php?id=14917642
November is going to be a dry month as far as biggies are concerned.
There are no releases from the top 10 Tamil heroes. Most of the releases are low budget films with comparatively new faces and technicians.
As of now on November 6, the four films have announced their release- Adhe Neram Adhe Idam, Thambiudayan, Sa-bu-thri, Mattu Dhavani.
Nov 13, three films- Pazhassi Raja, Shwetha 5/10 Wellington Road, Vaidehi
Nov 20- Naan Avan Illai- Part 2
Nov 27- Rettai Suzhi
Half a dozen other small movies are also due for release in November, provided they get distributors and theatres to screen.

BEHINDWOODS----PONGAL LIST
QUEUING UP: DECEMBER TO PONGAL
As the year draws to a close and another begins, there seems to be a flurry of releases that are getting ready in Kollywood. There is no dearth of biggies as Ajith, Vijay, Suriya, Silambarasan, Dhanush and Vikram are likely to be fighting it out for attention over the next couple of months. It hardly gets more crowded and we are here to give you all the details. The ones that are sure to hit screens, the ones that are racing against time and the ones that are mulling over the right time. Check out the preview for an action packed two months ahead for Kollywod.
Asal
Cast: Ajith, Sameera Reddy
Direction: Saran
Music: Bharadwaj
Status: Shooting
Release: Pongal – Confirmed
The Ajith-Saran team is looking ahead to continue the winning streak of their combination and their intentions are very clear, a Pongal release. For now, everything is on track for the festival release; smooth progress.
Singam
Cast: Suriya, Anushka
Direction: Hari
Music: Devi Sri Prasad
Status: Shooting
Release: Pongal- Tentative
With Hari’s kind of pace in film making and Suriya’s form of late, Singam that began just a few months back cannot be ruled out of the Pongal race. Shooting has been zipping along and Hari might just pull this one out of his hat in January.
Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya
Cast: Silambarasan, Trisha
Direction: Gautham Menon
Music: A.R. Rahman
Status: Shooting
Release: Pongal- Tentative
This Gautham Menon love story with Silambarasan and Trisha is almost done. It just seems to be a question of when Gautham wants to get it in to theaters. Well, Pongal might be the right time and there are some indications. But, before the movie, we have Rahman’s music to look forward to.
Aayirathil Oruvan
Cast: Karthi, Reema Sen, Andrea
Direction: Selvaraghavan
Music: G.V. Prakash
Status: Completed
Release: Pongal – Tentative
Well, we have been waiting for very long. The music has been out for over a couple of months now and the novelty has kind of died down. At last, the producer has shown some signs of activity and there is buzz that the movie might land for Pongal. Nothing confirmed though.
Vettaikaran
Cast: Vijay, Anushka
Direction: Babu Sivan
Music: Vijay Antony
Status: Complete
Release: December 18th – Confirmed
One of the most awaited movies of the year has finally made its arrival clear. First, expected for Diwali and then believed to be postponed for Pongal, it has now been decided that the wait need not be that long after all. It will be in theaters by mid-December; celebration time for Vijay fans.
Payya
Cast: Karthi, Tamannah
Direction: Lingusaamy
Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja
Status: Post Production
Release: Pongal – Confirmed
Now, is this a Karthi double header this Pongal. Well, if Aayirathil Oruvan keeps its festival date and Lingusaamy executes his plans, then it is definitely on the cards. Payya has almost been wrapped up and the director is quite intent on meeting the festival deadline. Music is scheduled to come out soon.
Kutty
Cast: Dhanush, Shriya
Direction: Jawahar
Music: Devi Sri Prasad
Status: Post Production
Release: Pongal – Confirmed
Well, there are quite a few expectations riding on this one. The Dhanush-Shriya combination is back, so is the Jawahar-Dhanush team that gave us Yaradee Nee Mohini. With the film making process almost complete, this one looks to be a sure draw this Pongal.
Yogi
Cast: Ameer, Madhumitha
Direction: Subramaniam Siva
Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja
Status: Complete
Release: November – Confirmed
This has been waiting in the wings for the right time to strike since Diwali. The wait will not be much longer as it is finally scheduled for the end of November. With Ameer making his acting debut with what looks like a goon role set in Chennai, this 11 crore flick certainly has a few things to watch out for.
Jaggubhai
Cast: Sarath Kumar, Shriya
Direction: K.S. Ravikumar
Music: Rafee
Status: Complete
Release: December – Confirmed
This KSR-Sarath Kumar combine flick has been ready for a while now. It could have even been a KSR double during Diwali with both Aadhavan and Jaggubhai. But, that did not happen. Now, this film from one of the most successful combinations in Tamil cinema is set for an early December release.
Goa
Cast: Jai, Vaibhav, Premji, Sneha
Direction: Venkat Prabhu
Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja
Status: Post Production
Release: December – Confirmed
The holiday of the year in theaters; that’s how it has been marketed by its makers. Well, the Venkat Prabhu brand of cinema is here again and we can sure expect a whole lot of fun and some whacky humor. The regular team is there in full strength, Yuvan’s ready with his score and for the first time, there is a leading heroine included in the team, Sneha. Also, everybody is eager to see how Ocher Studios’s maiden venture turns out.

Friday Fury- November 27
By Moviebuzz | Thursday, 26 November , 2009, 08:36
It is going to be a three day weekend as it is a public holiday on Friday due to Bakrid, and with the Chennai monsoon over, nice time to release films.
Three Tamil films have confirmed their release- Yogi, Naan Avan Illai-2 and Mathiya Chennai.
Yogi carries an ‘UA’ censor certificate has been long in the making and is writer and director Ameer’s launch pad as an actor. The film directed by Subramaniyashiva is based on a gangster’s life, a lone wolf in the mean streets of Chennai.
Ameer is looking in turning himself into an action hero. The film produced by Ameer’s Teamwork Production House on a budget of Rs 10 Crore (?), has one peppy mass number tuned by Yuvan Shankar Raja, and has enough stuff to attract the B & C audiences. All areas for the film in TN has been sold out and is opening in nearly 130 screens across the state, eight of them in Chennai city.
Naan Avan Illai- 2 produced by Hitesh Jhabak and directed by Selva carries an ‘A’ certificate and is the first ever sequel to a remake of a film by the same name which was released in the late 70’s. Can Jeevan repeat the success of part one? Jeevan will once again play the suave conman who tries trapping five sexy girls- Sangeetha, Lakshmi Rai, Hema Malini, Shwetha Menon and Rachna Maurya.
The glamour and glitz surrounding the film which has music by D Imman and shot in exotic foreign locations, will take an opening for sure as it is releasing big in 171 screens worldwide including a dozen screens in Chennai.
Mathiya Chennai carries a ‘U’ certificate. It is about the life and times of an assistant film director’s working in Kollywood, who is waiting for the big break. The premise of the film is that anyone with a positive outlook to life can never fail. The film has newcomer Jeyanth and Ramya Barna in lead with Prakash Raj playing a pivotal role and Ilayaraja providing music.
It is directed by Vivekanand and Veerasingam, the director duo who were former assistants to Parthiban and Bharathiraja respectively. V & V in their interviews have said that with their unusual script they are going to give a new meaning to Tamil cinema. The film is releasing in limited number of screens.

NOV, is that a complete list? what about AO? Last week it was shown in 43 screens rite?

Yes, its a complete list. AO completely taken off.
Even Vettaikkaran opened less than AO

TP 1 is a bonus. Some other movies like Nanayam were not even released here.
Goa is doing very good business.

It is surprising to see Enthiran is still holding forte especially after that kind of wide release...
in PVR, Sathyam, Escape the number of shows is equal to that of new releases...

yep.. in Mayajaal itz the other way around..

Nagaram - Review
Sundar C is back with a bang! Nagaram, which he has directed after five years and does the lead role is a gripping drama providing whole hearted entertainment, and he delivers in a stylish way.
The film at 2 hours 30 minutes could have been trimmed a bit, otherwise it is a nice time pass fare. In a word, Enjoy.
Verdict- Entertainer

watched the movie yesterday - it was full house, and all three of us took the last remaining seats at

today was further shocked to learn that Kavalan was having 10 shows in Brem Mall, Kepong!
looks like it will be in top 10 in this year collection.
