Venkat Prabhu tries to sign a top hero
November 13, 2008
The Ocher Films and Warner Bros will produce their first ever Tamil film together, titled Goa. The movie will be directed by the latest golden boy of Kollywood, Venkat Prabhu. Speaking to the media about the film, Venkat said that the three actors signed up for Goa are: Jai, Vaibhav and Premji. He added that talks are on with a top actor but refused to disclose more details. Venkat is also set on roping in two well established heroines for Goa. Other than this, the director plans to go on a trip to Hollywood to sign up some actors. These actors will be trained to suit the needs of Tamil cinema, he said.
Interestingly, Goa will have a rendition by Ilayaraja and this was confirmed by the director himself. Yuvan Shankar Raja will score the music and Shakthi Saravanan will wield the camera. The director said that it will be a witty flick without any traces of Chennai 28 and Saroja.

Venkat Prabhus dream coming true
The ace film maker Venkat Prabhu seems to be riding high on the wave of luck and what better time than this for him to fulfill his long standing wish. Apparently, Venkat had always wanted his uncle Ilayaraja to sing for his movie and now that he is coming up with his next venture 'Goa' he went and requested the Isai Puli to render his voice. There is news that the legendary maestro has agreed for it and Venkat is on cloud nine since it is his dream coming true.

Venkat Prabhu's 'Goa' is shaping up on a brisk pace. The final script for the movie is being readied at present. The crew will start regular shooting from February 2009. The cast of the movie is yet to be officially finalized. For now, Arvindh Akash of 'Chennai-28' and Sampath, who played the villainous gangster in 'Saroja' is a part of the movie.
Music will be composed once again by their inseparable buddy Yuvan Shankar Raja. He will begin his composition after Pongal. Saroja had a highlight that was quite new for Tamil movies. A promo song which was released before the movie that was peppy and groovy. Once again for 'Goa', a similar style of composition is being rendered by Yuvan which will be sung by an international artist. Premji, Jai and Vaibhav are also a part of the main cast, says sources.
The story is inspired from the real life incident of the British girl Scarlett Keeling's murder case that took place in Goa this year. We can expect a lot more of spine chilling moments and rib tickling jokes in this Venkat's upcoming 'Goa'.

Jessica Alba’s tryst with Bollywood has ended even before taking off.
The Hollywood hottie won’t play the role of murdered British teenager Scarlett Keeling in Venkat Prabhu’s Goa , after all.
The news comes soon after Katrina Kaif refused to portray Scarlett in Prabhakar Shukla’s Rave Party , based on the same topic. Katrina refused to do the film owing to its “ controversial topic”. “ Jessica is not doing the film because it wasn’t possible to rework our schedule around her dates,” confirms Kartik Gangadharan, chief marketing officer, Ocher Studios, which is co- producing Prabhu’s film.
A section of the media had reported that “ the Tamil film industry would be host to Alba” for Prabhu’s film. Another report had also claimed that Jessica’s dialogues had been finalised in English though the film is in Tamil.
“ We have to start our film next month at any cost. And we can’t take the risk of cancelling the schedule because Goa has an ensemble cast. It would be difficult to match other actors’ dates,” informs Gangadharan.
Produced by Saundrya Rajnikanth’s Ocher Studios and Warner Brothers, the filmmakers are now looking for a white girl to fill in Jessica’s shoes. “ We will finalise a white girl within next week. We are looking for a white actress who can perform well.
The character is not just about mouthing few dialogues and going off,” added Gangadharan.
Jessica was sent the bound script after the Dark Angel star reportedly asked for it. “ She was very keen to play the role but the dates simply didn’t match,” said Gangadharan.
Reports are rife that Jessica demanded nearly Rs 14 crore while the budget of this film is said to be around Rs six crore. But Gangadharan rubbishes it saying: “ Money is not an issue. It could have been negotiated.” Prabhu, who is behind films like Chennai 600028 and Saroja , is believed to have finalised Genelia D’Souza and south Indian actress Sneha.
“ It will be a jolly good films like American Pie or Road Trip . It is about a gang of friends who go to Goa on holiday, get stuck in a perilous situation but emerge unscathed,” writes Prabhu on his website.

“Many Bollywood films have used Goa as a birthplace of their script. But for the first time in Tamil cinema we are using Goa as a backdrop of the whole film. I was enthused by the beauty of the place and had a great desire to holiday in Goa during my school days. Just like the beauty of the place, girls who are in Goa are also beautiful. I have thought a lot about the freedom for women’s clothing and clubs in Goa. In a country like India, how come girls are freethinking to wear bikini so commonly, was my question.
So I used the experience of three friends who come to Goa with a lot of happiness and things they come across as the film’s core story. Jai and Premji are engineering students who are selected in campus interview. These two join along with few of their other friends and come to Goa to enjoy their holiday before joining the job. Meanwhile they get to meet a gang of angelic beauties who have also come to Goa. After this, what happens to the friendship of these guys is told with humour, love and small clashes.”

With few days left for the release of Venkat Prabhu’s ‘Goa’, we bring you the exclusive look on what the film is all about. As in reference, there were have been many presumptions about the story and now it’s something we hear straight from the closer sources of ‘Goa’ unit.
‘Goa’ is a fun-filled journey of three friends traveling from their small village in south India to the international tourist-destination Goa, finding friendship, love, and a whole lot of mischief and comedy on the way.
3 friends—Rama Rajan, Vinayagam and Samikannu, - are rebels in the making, going against the superstitious beliefs of their conservative village and often landing themselves in trouble with the elders of the village. The cultural and religious practices of the village are so extreme that they prohibit the boys from even watching films, the pastime of south India! Unable to tolerate their repeated transgressions, the village elders decree that the three should no longer be able to maintain any kind of contact whatsoever.
They somehow managing to meet each other in disguise during a village festival, the three friends flee the village as an act of revenge against their overly strict families.
They go to Madurai, Where they get another shock whey they see that Rajan is getting married to a foreigner from the UK! At the wedding Samikannu has own electric, though unspoken, connection with one of Lisa’s friends, Jessica. After the wedding Rajan tells his story, how he and his bride Lisa met in Goa and fell in love. As if marrying a foreigner isn’t enough, the boys are floored to hear that Rajan is going to settle in London with a cushy job to boot, courtesy of her father! The boys, Rama Rajan in particular, are amazed by the idea that a beautiful, rich, white woman could fall in love with a very average looking, lower-middle class guy from rural India. Rama Rajan plans and then convinces his friends that they should go to Goa. They could find a white girl, marry her and then settle down in a foreign country.
While they enjoy themselves for a few days, experience things they have never had a chance to in their remote village, they soon realize that impressing a white girl is not as easy as they thought it’d be.
Each of the boy’s falls in love, but not how or with whom they’d expect it to be! With a series of twists and turns, one part comedy and one part thrill, the boys each end up understanding the nature of love in their own ways. How the boys come to terms with their own identities in a foreign place among friends, old and new, in order to understand the meaning of life forms the crux of this cinematic journey

‘Goa’ comes for Pongal

It’s going to be a Deepavali on Pongal. For a firework is getting ready to hit the screens this harvest festival. It’s ‘Goa’, directed by Venkat Prabhu and produced by Soundarya Rajinikanth’s Ocher Picture Productions.
The makers of the film today confirmed that their product would reach the public on Pongal. “They would take care of the rest,” said Venkat Prabhu with all hope. “We never thought our earlier ventures ‘Chennai 28’ and ‘Saroja’ would become such huge hits. But it happened,” he said.
“It is a fun filled story of a group of youngsters,” the filmmaker said and added: “That’s why we have given a tagline ‘A Venkat Prabhu Holiday’. Though it sounds similar to ‘Chennai 28’ and ‘Saroja’, it’s going to be different this time.”
“Like how you would enjoy a trip to ‘Goa’, you would enjoy watching ‘Goa’ too. Our guys (Premji, Jai and Vaibhav) would ensure that your funny bone is tickled. You would also see a never-before Sneha in the film,” he said.

Hey people they are back! Yuvan and Venkat Prabhu combo is back after their ‘Chennai 600028’ and ‘Saroja’ with a bang. The audio launch of this Soundarya Rajinikanth’s Ocher Studio product is coming soon.
We heard that Yuvan had watched the Director’s cut of the movie today and was laughing chaotically despite the fact that he watched it all alone. Now people just imagine the out put with the magical re-recording and songs of Yuvan joining this laugh riot. The composer is reportedly starting the re-recording works today!

Looks like Venkat Prabhu’s Goa will after all not release for Pongal. According to reliable sources from the distribution side, Goa is not yet ready for release during the Pongal weekend. The reason being pending works in the background score addition by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
With that the scene of Pongal releases is more or less clear. Dhanush’s Kutty, Karthi’s Ayirathil Oruvan and Lawrence’s Irumbu Kottai Murattu Singam are the sure-shot releases for Pongal.

Rajini releases ‘Goa’ music
At a time when everyone was expecting a grand audio launch function of ‘Goa’, since it is the maiden production venture of Soundarya Rajinikanth’s Ocher Studios, the film had its music launch in a simple way on Monday.
The music album of the movie was released by Superstar Rajinikanth at his residence in Chennai. The simple function was attended by the cast and crew of the film directed by Venkat Prabhu, besides officials from Sony Music.
Says Venkat Prabhu, “I feel proud that Goa’s audio was released by the Superstar. He is always there to encourage us right from the days of ‘Chennai 6000028’. He is hopeful that ‘Goa’ would become a super hit.”

With a story that takes in place in Goa, there was no doubt that Venkat Prabhus Goa wouldnt be short of glitz and glam. After all, the films promos show its three heroines Sneha, Piaa and Australian model Melanie cavorting with the heroes in chic, trendy outfits in the land of bikinis and beaches. The film has now been awarded an A certificate by the censors, and no, it is not for going overboard with glamour. We hear that the film has been certified A because of its content!
But director Venkat Prabhu laughed off the rating issue by saying that the reason, the censors gave it an A certificate was probably because the film was A-class . He went on to add that the censor officials really enjoyed the film, despite its rating. The genre of Goa is similar to films like American Pie, Road Trip and The Hangover. Still, I guess Goa would come under the rating PG (Parental Guidance), which exists in the US and a few other countries. I tried to convince the censor officials that the film could be enjoyed by one and all, but they did not budge from their stand as they believe that the films story requires a mature audience. Worry not, Venkat, we know that you are one filmmaker who knows his limits.

Spell Goa, you are immediately reminded of fun, frolic, women and wine. Venkat Prabhu's 'Goa' is no different as the movie dwells on all these things. With more of a Bollywood feel, the movie is 'funathon', that is light and breezy all through without any seriousness involved in it.
Venkat Prabhu has managed to keep his reputation intact. Quite like 'Chennai 28' and 'Saroja', he doesn't take himself very serious in 'Goa' too. All is well but for few hiccups. The movie sets out to explore the changing relationships among the youths, especially the concept of homosexuals.
Though Bollywood has brought into light the issue in 'Dostana', this is for the first time in Tamil cinema to discuss about gay relationship. But Venkat Prabhu is not preachy and has not taken any sides or pass any judgmental comments.
The movie revolves around three youths who sets out on a trip to Goa only with a mission to fall in love with a white woman, get married and go abroad. The twists and turns they come across in their mission makes up the story.
A spoof of few popular Tamil films and songs does add to the merriment. With Premji, Jai and Vaibhav around, one is ensured of fun and frolic. There are some surprises in the form of Sampath Raj, Sneha, Silambarasan and Prasanna.
The movie begins in Pannapuram, a remote village near Madurai (the native place of Venkat Prabhu's family). Three youngsters Samikannu (Premji Amaran), Vinayakam (Jai) and Ramarajan (Vaibhav) are callous who spend all their time doing nothing. Their acts invite the wrath of the villagers and the village panchayat decides that the three should never meet again in future for the welfare and peace of the village.
The trio decides to elope from the place and spend few days peacefully in Madurai. When they reach their friend's place they come to know that he has married a foreign woman when he was in Goa and that he would be flying from the country soon. This results in them deciding to try their luck in Goa. They set off with a plan to lure a white woman and marry her.
They come across one Danny (Arvind Akash) who helps them with shelter in Goa and expose them to the party culture. Roshini (Piya) a singer in a hotel falls for Vinayakam, while Jesika (Melanie), a white lady follows Samikannu from Madurai attracted by his innocence. Enters Danny's friend Jack (Sampath) a gay. He has an affinity for Danny.
Soon Danny and Jack help the trio get an image makeover and start help them in their mission. Ramarajan's life takes a twist after he comes across Suhasini (Sneha), a rich ship owner in Goa. They get attracted towards each other and eventually gets married. But true colour of Suhasini is revealed and he manages to escape from trouble there with the help of his friends.
Vinayakam is finally convinced by Roshini's sincere love while Samikannu gets wedlocked with Jesika. After some twists and turns in the story, all ends well and the boys return to their village to start a new life. Vaibhav has a surprise when he lands in Pannapuram in the form of Nayantara.
Premji Amaran, Jai and Vaibhav have equal screen space and they bring the roof down with laughter. Premji is impressive with his 'familiar one-liners' while Jai speaking a chaste English and Vaibhav getting in trouble for his own acts are appreciable.
Piya and Aravind Akash have meaty roles to play while it is a surprise to see rough-and-tough Sampath playing a gay. Sneha though appears briefly seems to have shed her 'homely' image to do a dare bare role. She has done full justice to it. The rest of the cast includes Shanmuga Sundaram, Anandhraj, Sathyapriya among others.
Yuvan Shankar Raja is the real scene-stealer. A total of 9 songs including Goa theme are peppy and interesting to listen to. Sakthi Saravanan's camera is equally appealing capturing the sands and sea-shores with clarity.
Goa is Soundarya Rajinikanth's maiden production venture on behalf of Ocher Picture Productions. Once can applaud her commitment in taking the risk to deviate from the regular run-of-the-mill stuff and try something different.
However on the flip side, the movie might throw some shock to a section of conservative film audience. The bold theme tried by Venkat Prabhu may leave a bad taste in the mouths of some. Also the second half wanders aimlessly and needs an immediate trimming.
At the same time, one has to say that Venkat Prabhu was clear on what he wanted to do on screen and has rightly delivered the same. If you want to unwind yourself, forget all logics and enjoy, its destination 'Goa'

Just listened to the album. The 2 best songs are the ones with rAjA's voice and then yELELu thalaimuRaikkum (yEnpA uchcharippai attempt kUda paNNa mAttIngaLA?? Though I have the feeling it is done on purpose).

The problem with VP, as it seems now to me, is a question if he is a prisoner of Chennai 28? That, was an unpretentious, tight little film with neat performances and humor which appears seamless. Saroja was funny in the parts where the movie was not serious. OK, we have the spoofs, the throwback to Raaja BGMs (i liked it this time though) etc but when it tries to get going, its not quite the fun ride we expect.
Earlier, I'd listened to only "Vaaliba Va" which i thought was unimpressive. Padatha paatha odane thats the least unimpressive song nu thonudhu.... "Idhu varai" oru maadhiri nalla dhaan irundhuchu, irundhaalum.... and i thought Ezhezhu thalaimurai was a good opportunity wasted.

Venkat Prabhu and Yuvan have a deal
Yuvan Shankar Raja has been getting a mixed response for his latest Tamil release, Goa, which has just hit the screens.
But Yuvan is taking the criticism in his stride. “I make it a point to enjoy myself while working on an album. And so, criticisms don’t affect me. But as far as Goa goes, touchwood, people have been giving me positive reviews,” he says.
For Yuvan, Goa has been an experiment of sorts because he has composed folk, an R&B pop, soft rock, and club mix, all for one album!
“But I loved composing for Ezhezhu Thalaimuraikkum... the most. It’s a song on our native place, sung by Venkat, Premgi, Bhavatharini, Karthik Raaja, and I. It’s a kind of tribute to the village of our dad and uncles. And guess what, it became the pick of the album while we were all hoping that Vaa Vaa... would top the charts. Isn’t it uncanny?” he asks.
The Yuvan and Venkat combo has been churning out hits in the last two films. Ask Yuvan if he is extra-cautious while composing for his cousin’s film, and he replies pat, “Heck no! I in fact finished the re-recording work within a week, while for other films, I take at least two weeks or more! But I’m chilled out while working with Venkat. For one, we are cousins and know what the other wants. And two, Venkat has good knowledge of music. So, I actually don’t have to break my head over what I should do!”
But, isn’t he tired of the Yuvan-Vekat combo? “I will tell you a secret. Venkat and I have a raw deal. I will compose music for his films if it has Premgi in the cast. The day he decides Prem will not be part of his movie, I will move on and not be a part of Venkat’s crew. So, Prem is the deciding factor,” he laughs. Now, whoever said Yuvan doesn’t crack jokes!
But he is quick to add, “I also want Venkat to work with Karthik, Prem and Bhavatharini on the music. In fact, Bhava was yelling at me because I gave her just eight lines to sing in the Ezhezhu... song. I finally had to convince her that I would give her an entire song in our next film. She would be delighted if Venkat works with her.”
In fact, he is planning to release another album for Goa after the film’s release. “It will contain two bonus tracks —a duet and another English number by Prem and me,” he says.
Yuvan, who’s currently busy composing for Bala’s project, has his kitty full with other films, including the Song of Youth for Dr Abdul Kalam. But this music director is as cool as a cucumber while working on music. “I don’t get stressed out. And composing is not a problem for me because music is my passion. I take things as they come and that keeps me going,” he signs off.

El...guitar peice...lul..guitar piece..loooo ....guitar piece - then people will not understand whether it is "elu lollu" or "elelu" or whatever.
colloquial-a paadradhu thappilla....but that should sound like the colloquial words...not like an englishman speaking tamil(unless if it was pictursied on a tamil speaking englsihman) or be split into letters(sentence into words) and dominated by music.
there are lots of these types of ilayaraja village songs i guess...in the colloquial language.

Watched the movie.. The film is not mokkai as the reviews suggest. The film has its own moments. As someone had posted earlier, the film is not racy as CH28 or Saroja. 50 naal odumnu ninaikiren..
+ive: Sampath and Akash's guts to don those roles, Yuvan as usual. (but at one point of time I felt that there were too many songs), climax bloopers...

Watched Goa and Tamizh Padam on the same day I liked Goa very much. Yes, theres some mokkai moments but the actors did well to make us interested throughot the movie.
There's laugh riot even before the movie starts.
Statutory Warning : Smoking and Alcohol...
and gambling, theft, ...... are injurious to health....
and wealth
Sampath and Arvind There's no vulgarity in their scenes. It only creates laughter. Pia was good. Sneha waste.

Its quite true, at least in Malaysia.Despite a mixed response the film has evoked, Venkat Prabhu's 'Goa' has been witnessing a tremendous reception from film-buffs, especially youngsters, if theatre sources are to be believed.
Couldnt get tickets for the film for 6pm, 9pm and midnite show on Sat.
On Tuesday, managed to get front row tickets for 6pm show
Tuesday 9pm Thalafanz went back empty handed and saw it on Wed after doing early booking of ticket.
I enjoyed the film very much but need to watch again as most of the jokes were drowned out by the audience laughter.
In spite of repeated jokes and some mokkais, Goa is really a fun-filled, no frills enjoyable film.... and really the first adults only film to be made in Tamil.

Regarding Yuvan, I would say that none of Yuvan's recent albums was really bad (though some people would definitely disagree with me!). Reg. Yuvan's music in Goa, as said is simply fantastic, for me the best is Idhu varai, followed by Idai vazhi! What makes Idhu varai even more delightful is its amazing picturization, very beautifully shot, camera work and locations such as the concert hall, beach and the long bridge are top notch. I'm wondering why such a song doesn't make it big, whereby there are plenty of not-so-good songs being so much hailed.

First half is not an worthy entertainer for me but still it is not bandhead or headache. I maximum smiled at simetimes, sometimes I felt pity for myself. Premji is not in his best he miserably failed to extract laugh from me but my neighbour rotfl-ed whenever Premji appeared or whaterever Premji did . During first half only saving grace is Jai's funglish
The real film stands in second half especially the last 30 minutes are top-notch (Sneha episode and the climax) the scenes made me. Another highlight of the film is the 'Gay relationship' between Sampath and Arvindh. I though "Valibaa Vaa Vaa" song about friendship but it is about .
The third highlight of the movie is the extraordinary BGM espectially in last 30 minutes and some fantastic songs. Fourth highlight the neat gay-relationship with superb performance by Sampath and v.good performance by 6 pack Arvindh (evalavu kastam theriyuma maintain panrathu )
Some funniest movements in film
1) Athu nadanthalum parava illa, aana adhu nadanthuduchuda.
Kadasi varaikkum adhu nadakalai and entire Sneha - Vaibai scenes
2) Ippo neenga than purushana irukkEngala

hey guys, me from coimbatore, basically a mal settled here. have been reading through the hub pages for sometime, just got myself registered. thought of penning down my thoughts on Goa which i watched this Sunday along with my wife. we both thoroughly enjoyed the film. all these years, we have been given so many films packaged as entertainers, but this film in one word is a TRUE ENTERTAINER!
We did not feel like we had been to a movie, felt like we just had an outing with our friends.
yes, the movie dips a little bit in the second half and many scenes are just left hanging that we feel the director was missing from the sets, but what the heck, when the fun quotient is so high, who cares! think the "additional bgm" as the makers have titled it is becoming repetitive and VP can do better if he stops the overkill with this film. Usage of "Kangal Irandaal" was overdone i feel. the aravind-sampath track, while being a bold initiative in TFM could have been more fun if it was more subtly done rather than running it as a throughout thread, i.e., aravind's disappointments ate up a lot of screentime with a song to boot, but the bedroom scene was tops!
we liked c-28 but felt let down by saroja which though had the humour quotient was disappointing in that it was lifted generously from hollywood, but here, it is a venkat prabhu holiday in all sense. yuvan needs a pat for composing one of the truly situational, yet entertaining albums for a while in tamil cinema. though the second half felt overstretched thanks to the director's insistence on a song for all the 3 male leads, the quality of yuvan's tunes cannot be doubted. BGM was perfect for the mood of the film.
jai surprised with his hilarious timing, my pick being "ungala ellaam friendsnu solradhukku enakku puppy shame aa irukku" !
premji as usual, tho this time a bit overdone, thanks to brotherly affection!
vaibhav too put in a redeeming performance after a timid show in saroja.
a relief to see sneha in an unusual role, she rocked, and kudos to the director for not leaving her character's end wandering!
sampath and aravind akash hats off for their portrayals, sampath especially with his voice modulation was a revelation, from his usual deep throated voice to a slightly feminish one here, 10 on 10 for the dubbing alone!
Pia was eyecandy, so was Melanie. nice to see a foreign actor who actually "performed" in an Indian flick.
all in all, Goa is pure fun, enjoy it for what it is...a holiday entertainer in the true sense of the word!

yes rifath, the film is picking up i guess after initial mixed views. here in coimbatore too it's doing well. kg big cinemas balcony was sold out 2 hours before the show this sunday, even though asal just released this friday. we rushed to Archana theater for tickets, n somehow managed to get 2 tickets. the show was full there too. credible show indeed i think for a non-star film in its 3rd week, playing in 4 theaters here.

Watched the movie.. thanks to a low level CD print available in the market.
Indha padatha pathi yaaravadhu modhallaiyae solli irundhaa.. kadaisi 15 mins mattum paathutu thoongirupaen.... VP lacks his screenplay skills and is evident with so many scenes.. First halfla, he spends most of his reels in showing us the parts of Goa with his theme music and with the disco clubs etc.. second halfla he spends time in transforming the guys .. idhuliyae paadhi padam mudinjaachu.. and meedhi irukira padathula we have prolonging songs which doesnt help the length of the movie..
Jai tops up with his performance overall, and the scene where he asks the sardarji driver about Goa The fluency should be appreciated.. Its a different kind of gimic in using the Thanglindhi .. Premji and Vaibha are ...
I thought Melanie was just awesome.. Kudos to VP for transforming this girl into believable dhaavani girl Sampath and Arvind .. should be applauded for accepting the role.. The scenes in the bedroom was tricky... left for two kinds of audience.. one who dont support can make fun of this scene and the others can live with it.. my wifey couldnt stand the scene though !
Did anyone notice this guy who appeared with different getups ? The jolnaa py vaala in the opening scene, kalyaana iyer, sardarji driver, police wala in goa, a blonde girl in casino and the marine office.. any significance to have the same person with different getups ? I am still searching for an answer.
Overall, a disappointment for me... VP's next producer was seen in the Casino Royale in the climax, and if VP should gain the trust of producer Siva, he should come up with better scripts. Else Siva can lose his money in the casino instead of investing it in VP.

I have a problem with this characterisation of Sampath.. The movie portrays Aravind as the "lead" of the two, with the scenes where Aravind develops six packs for Sampath just because the latter liked SRK ..
But in the scene, where Aravind caught Sampath with Premji, Sampath is shown as the "lead" there, for which Aravind went mad. Technically there is a problem, either Aravind was not happy seeing his (let me use the word from Vettaiyadu V) pondaati playing with Premji or Venkat Prabhu didnt understand the concept and lost it completely
Since people here appreciated the "braveness" of handling such a script, I thought I will post this here and pat myself "bravO".

ungaloda review padichen. actually, one of the things we discussed while coming out of the movie was that 'its total timepass, but not everyone's cuppa tea' so not surprised to see mixed reactions/reviews for the film. if am not wrong, pancha also invited same kinda reactions i guess, either some liked it/some just plain hated what was going on! indha maadhiri zany comedies naa, reactions appdi thaan irukkum i feel. The Hangover, i just loved it, but some of my friends kilitchified the movie, calling it the crappiest comedy they've seen bla, bla, bla nu....so, freeya viduvom!

entertainment value-la sonnen.. even if we critically analyse GOA, its a terrific comedy film..
some comedy movies like Michael are far better as movies.. some masala types like GOA overtake them in entertainment value..

Comparing GOA with MMKR is literally a sin. And I didnt expect that from an ardent Kamal fan. I dont place even Panchathanthiram in the same league of MMKR. the problem in goa is the script is not serious even when serious scene is excecuted on screen. for ex, in one scene where vaibhav says something to pia, she too laughs agreeable, jai misunderstands that as, vaibhav 'corrected' and 'finished' pia!! udane, vaibhav payalai naalu saathu saathi unmai ennannu kekkurathukku bathila, sea shore kku odi poiduvaaru, and 'ithu varai' song in pathos plays in bgm. enna kodumai ithu!
in that same scene, vaibhav thalaiya oru maathiriyaa aattuvaaru, padathulaye enakku pudicha scene athu thaan!!

I'm surprised to see that some of us are hitting it hard on 5tricks. Nothing can beat MMKR but I think 5tricks and PKS are in the same line when it comes to entertainment. The only drawback that I found in 5tricks is the climax but he had no other choice but to give an emotional end to this movie given his real life situation. PKS, except for the death of his thatha, is a class act..
I laughed my alpha sugar sugar off for both the films and I wouldnt compare PKS and 5tricks based on the entertainment value.
MMKR / AS > 5tricks /= PKS (since only these films are in discussion here) Will wait for the new thread for Kamalji and start this discussion about his best comical flick ! .. Sorry for the digg here

Except may be the *towel come* and the intros, none of the scenes were funny. Am not sure if the gay couple subplot was meant to be funny. It was not funny at all, not even unintentionally. It was extremely annoying. Very very shabbily handled.

Called k_vaanan to check on status in Sentul. Shocked to learn that it was FULL HOUSE the day before (he returned home empty handed) and on that day too.
Went to god-forsaken Federal cinema. managed to get front row seats for 9.30 show.
by the time film started, it was FULL HOUSE midnite too!
after watching 2nd time, I think its an ok film

In Malaysia there remains only one stand-alone cinema (unlike cineplexes). It is in Kuala Lumpur and the name is Colliseum.
Colliseum, although owned by chinese, ONLY shows Tamil films.
So, what has all these got to do with Goa you ask.
Well, VTV is playing in Colliseum and one show has been removed to accomodate.... GOA

Actually, I found Goa to be quite enjoyable. Was hoping to laugh at Premji's antics but surprisingly it was Jai and his broken English that had me in splits....the towel scene was one example.
Vaibhav (from the bathroom): Towel come, towel come
Jai: towel go, towel go...Hei towel not going ya!
The scene where Jai reads Jessica's letter was funny too. Maybe it's just me but I found that I could understand Jai better when he speaks in English rather than in tamil.
Nevertheless, I found the movie a bit of a drag here and there. The song with Ajay could have been avoided. A definite speed-breaker!
P.S: Sampath was too good!

Premji was enjoyable in his first couple of movies and from then he is irritating to the core. Same sort of histrionics in all the movies.. Jai was more watchable in Goa than Premji.
comedy is not the cup of tea for Premji. See his performances in movies not directed by VP. You will be left murmuring his famous line.. 'Enna Kodumai Sir Idhu?'.

Anyone else got reminded of Singaravelan at different places (right from the Anandraraj flashback that was bluntly used here unlike SV), AND was massively underwhelmed by Goa?! The tension between Reverence (to the plot, situation and Masala tropes) and Irreverence (to the plot, situation and Masala tropes) was much much more effective there, and as well as the way they managed to use Gounder as one of the many auteurs in that film, should be a textbook for all screwball comedies !
