I kinda agree with Joe! The first time I saw him was in MANMADHAN... And I found his dialogue delivery annoying to say the least... But things/people grow on you over a period, and Santhanam is no exception... For me, it was natural in SSUE... In all other movies, I feel he drags too much! But he's acted with almost all the young stars - Vijay, Ajith, Surya, Simbu, Dhanush, Jayam Ravi, etc. And now with Shankar as the producer, in a lead role... Good for him!

The reason why I feel you guys are not able to accept him as hero bcoz you are not seeing the team of lollu shabha all the time. around santhanam to get you that feel
Billala Herokea. Acting scope kammee (This Director Vishnu accepted in Vijaya TV thirai vemarshanum) Aadulai.. comedy actorku.. Scope yadur Paapadu.. Koncham Over..
I am exicited to see him as an HERO it will be fun ride I am sure. if its better than IMSAI by even 1 % They have done a good job.

Santhanam's timing is good. But plain timing alone is not required for a good comedian. Ellarum Goundar aaga mudiyaathu. He should have some good comedy script writers with him. Then only everything will work out for him. Let us hope he & kanja karuppu shine in this movie.
But PrakashRaj might just overtake everyone

The trailer of the much anticipated film Arai Enn 305-il Kadavul is out. Arai Enn 305-il Kadavul stars comedians Santhanam and Kanja Karuppu in the lead roles and is directed by Simbhu Devan who made Vadivelu a hero with his Imasai Arasan 23m Pulikesi. The film is produced by director Shankar’s S Pictures which has made a name for itself by providing quality fare. Actor Prakashraj is doing an important role in this film. He plays the ‘kadavul’ (God) in this comic caper about two youths who get a visit from the Almighty in their room. Madhumitha and Jyothirmayi play the love interests of the two male leads. The film has already raised expectations with its innovative title, the fresh casting, Shankar’s backing and the director’s past performance. Let’s wish this whole team all success.

"Ganja" Karuppu has carved a niche for himself in the Tamil film industry with his exemplary comedy tracks. Having established himself as a reputable comedian, as like other comedians, he also traversed to don the role of a hero. His forthcoming venture in which he plays the lead role is Arai En 305-il Kadavul.
But the actor expects that his role in Subramaniapuram will be much-talked about for times to come. This film is produced and directed by debutant Sasi Kumar. The most interesting aspect of Subramaniapuram is that Karuppu dons two getups. Interestingly, in one of the roles he appears as an old man. To make the garb look real, a make-up artiste has been specially brought down from Mumbai. The reason for taking so much pain is that, according to sources, Karuppu's role brings the turning point in the story. The actor expects this film could prove to be a landmark in his career. We wish him all the very best.

Simbudevan spills beans on Arai En
By Behindwoods News Bureau.
March 15, 2008
Visitor Medical Insurance
Having created a stir of sorts with his critically acclaimed and widely successful Imsai Arasan, Simbudevan is back with yet another wacky theme under the title Arai En 305il Kadavul. Ganja Karuppu and Santhanam play the protagonists and Prakash Raj dons the title role playing Kadavul. The movie will have Jyothirmayi and Madhumitha playing the female leads.
Although Simbu is not ready to reveal who is paired opposite whom, he was generous enough to let us know that this aspect forms the crux of the movie. “This would only be uncovered to the viewers during the course of the movie and the script is tact enough to keep the suspense and sprinkle it with generous amount of confusion as to among Ganja Karuppu, Santhanam, and Prakash Raj who will acquire the hands of Jyothirmayi and Madhumitha,” the director mentioned.
And we are sure Simbu has better suspense in the movie too.

Arai En 305il Kadavul - Simbudeven’s laugh riot yet again!
IndiaGlitz [Saturday, February 09, 2008]
Director Simbudeven is back again with one more film! The title ‘Arai Enn 305-il Kadavul’of the film it self has created much anticipation. After the success of the blockbuster comedy ‘Imsai Arasan 23am Pulikesi’ this film has also created a lot of expectations among the Tamil audience.
The film was shot for around two months around the city, Bangalore and Tenkasi. ‘Arai Enn 305-il Kadavul’ is produced by Director Shankhar’s ‘S’ Pictures which also produced ‘Imsai Arasan 23am Pulikesi’. S. Soundarajan wields the camera for this flick, while G. Sasikumar has taken charge of editing.
The music director of ‘Arai Enn 305-il Kadavul’ is Vidyasagar. He has given five different varieties of songs which includes rap, western, a folk song with the smell of the Tamil soil, melody and also a remix. Our sources believe that the songs of this film will sell like hot cakes!
The lyrics have been penned by Muthulingam, Na. Muthukumar, Pa. Vijay, Yugabharathy, and Kabilan.
The two lead roles of ‘Arai Enn 305-il Kadavul’, Santhanam & Kanja Karuppu were made to sit on the parapet of the tallest building. The guys who enacted the roles seemed to heave a sigh of relief once the take was ok!
It is also believed that the makers of the film ‘Arai En 305il Kadavul’ have made authentic costumes and brought special wigs & make-up materials from Mumbai for the character of ‘Maha Vishnu’ played by Prakash Raj.
The art Director Selvakumar has successfully re-created a moon at AVM studios that was required for the film ‘Arai En 305il Kadavul’, where a song was shot with Santhanam & Kanja Karuppu dancing on the surface of the moon!
‘Arai En 305il Kadavul’ too has historical sequences like in ‘Imsai Arasan..’
Santhanam and Kanja Karuppu, who are the heroes of ‘Arai En 305il Kadavul’ have decided not to act in any other film before this flick gets over.
‘Arai En 305il Kadavul’ has a huge star cast which includes Prakash Raj, Santhanam, Kanja Karuppu, Madhumitha, & Jyothirmayi in principal characters and also includes Rajesh, Ilavarasu, M.S. Bhaskhar, Thalaivasal Vijay, Madan Bob, Kuyili, Chams, ‘Paruthiveeran’ Sambath, V.M.C. Hanifa, V.S. Raghavan, Delhi Ganesh, Periyar Dasan, ‘Kadhal’ Sukumar & Muthukalai among others.
‘Great Selva’ is being introduced as the stunt master through this film ‘Arai En 305il Kadavul’. He is a former assistant of Peter Hain. It was Selva who acted as the dupe artiste for Vikram in the film ‘Anniyan’ (for ‘Anniyan’ character) in the stunt sequences.

Rediff review..
Arai En 305-il Kadavul is pure fun
Pavithra Srinivasan
They say good packaging is half the work done. And this holds true for the Tamil film, Arai En 305il Kadavul (God in Room No 305). If Imsai Arasan 23am Pulikesi showcased a nutty king in the British Raj, then S Pictures' Arai En 305il Kadavul directed by uber-creative Chimbhudevan has managed to display a modern God who speaks English.
Though you may have seen Chennai's hectic and remarkably raggedy mansion-life in many movies before this, yet Arai.... manages to throw open the doors in a very engaging fashion by first telling us that there are two 'Paal Veethis' (a pun on the Milky Way galaxy and the Paul Street in Triplicane).
Characters are introduced via freeze-frames and photographs, cutting through intensely personal details in a flash. We are introduced to a host of players including Mokkai Saami (Kanja Karuppu) and Raasu (Santhanam).
Then there is the elderly government servant who counts his days; 'Lord Wellesley' who has a fixation about Buckingham Palaces; engineer Rafeeq (Thalaivaasal Vijay), a miser; Thanjai Rudhran (Rajesh), a confirmed atheist; Giri (Hanifa) a tea stall owner; and Madaswamy, the mansion's manager (M S Bhaskar), a kindly but frustrated man who is always after our heroes for the month's rent. Each character is a pleasure to watch.
All these people and then some provide you with the substance required for the story which is about Mokkai and Raasu, who live on other people's charity. The duo goes job hunting, loses their jobs, falls in love, but can't marry, and then, one fine day, gets thrown out of their mansion.
Frustrated and depressed beyond belief, they yell and scream at God, calling him names. They demand that he comes down in person and answers their queries, which he does.
Thus enters Kadavul (Prakashraj) with a bang, literally. He promises to stick with them and experience their problems firsthand. What follows is a hilarious action-packed sequence.
Kadavul is omnipresent and omnipotent with the help of his mysterious G-Box, which helps him rule the universe. With the help of this remarkable device, God transports them to the Swiss Alps, the southern reaches of Tamil Nadu, produces full meals and flies with them a la Superman. In between these adventures, he also tries to explain that their problems are not created by gods, but by humans themselves.
Then one fine day, Raasu and Mokkai decide that instead of letting God control them with a G-Box, they will become Gods themselves -- by stealing the aforementioned box!
Joining them are the heroines -- Jyothirmayi and Madhumitha, who appear in such a minimal fashion that there's hardly anything to write home about. Kuyili, in a brief but slick role, impresses.
For Kanja Karuppu and Santhanam, these roles are by far their meatiest. The wonder of it all is that despite the comic situations, they still manage to wring a tear or two with their performances in the poignant scenes.
But the movie undoubtedly belongs to Prakashraj. The man is a marvel when it comes to combining godly qualities like that of benevolence with a gentle amusement, and when he is suddenly bereft of his powers, he still manages to produce a dignity and charm that instantly wins you over.
Chimbhudevan, with his screenplay and script has done a mammoth job of narrating the story, and it shows in every frame. The director has taken great pains to steer away from cliches. That said, he should have shown how the G-Box affected our heroes. Considering that Raasu and Mokkai hold such a magnificent power in their hands, they don't really use its potential and their payback seems childish, at best.
Vidhyasagar's music hits the spot, making sure your attention never deviates from the movie. Kadhal Seiveer is a particularly mesmerising piece.
Yes, it's chock-full of comedy. But it makes you think, as well. A must-watch.

there has been no superhits or blockbusters till now this year. on the other hand, the list of big budget disasters seems to be increasing:
Bheema, Indralogathil Naa Azhagappan, Arai en 305il Kadavul...

no judge, the movie started on lines of kadhal........it was superb, the director bought the feel of triplicane mansion within minutes....even prakash raj's introduction was neat and pretty good.......but later the movie just fell apart.....i was hoping the movie wud revive at some point but it didnt......second half, me and selva spoke more dialogues in theater than the characters

The dialogues were the only 'sumaar' part of the movie.Even Prakashraj wasn't impressive. The second half....gawd how could they think like this.Ithula shankar vera...."sila kdhaigala ketkum pothu adada itha naama senja innum nalla irukkume!"
Climax
sucked to the core.Ganja karuppu was never ever funny to me,santhanam pls come back to lollu sabha...we are waiting!

arai en 305il kadavul is an okay movie and can be watched once. the grandeur on the fantasy scenes can only be appreciated in the big screen.
ingE thiruttu vcd'la padam paaththuttu comment pannura ellaarayum enna pannalaam?
(a scene in the movie suggests some solutions :P )
I read somewhere that vivek was the original choice; I am sure he would have made a lot of difference.
Some chuckles here, some smiles there, some old jokes and preachyO preachy sums up the movie.
Huge star cast but all wasted. vidhyasaagar was also so so.
my favourite song of all time,
kurai ondrum illai was recycled and royally brutalised.
the concept was interesting (engE suttaangalO) but the execution leaves much to be desired.

Purus Almighty! Even Prakash Raj's white&white costume has been copied from that movie.

Which Bruce Almighty you are talking about ?? common guys give director some credit. There many movies which had GOD becoming human yaada yaada yaaada.. !!
But it was Unique attempt. Movie was ok ! lil Above average.!!

Good subject gone waste
Saw "Arai En..." yesterday... The movie started off well...and went on well til the interval with the typical simbudevan touch "Innum range maarum"... after that I expected a roller-coaster comedy or something intelligent....but the movie got into the preching mode... ennamo VISU sir padam paakra maathiri irundichi...
Really a good concept... somehow I felt Rajini shud have done the God's role...it would have reached a bigger audience...and the second half shudnt have been a "soft skill development classroom".
Lets see wot Simbu's upto in his Next...

Awwwwwwwwwwwwww man...all this booing
...i just watched Arai...and I liked it....usually i feel that movies like Anniyan just cram their philos/vision down your throat...but i liked the mini debate between Rajesh and Prakash...and yeah even though God did not even give an inkling that yeah...and no "that's what i knew you two were going to do anyways" moment even...i mean whoa....galaxy power gets less protection than money in a bloody bank!!!
And the length of the movie now that was unholy, how long and tedious it was for the two protagonists to reach realization....(and even then they would not have returned or voiced their realization were it not for being kidnapped)
but the potential of this plot is enormous...it could have been a real good struggle and carthartic story for even an atheist...but i guess it is a comedy first and foremost...and i guess they didn't even have the brains to do as much as Bruce did....for some reason fantasy like this doesn't work in indian films...the whole special effects in that duet song...i think without effects..that song wouldn't be able to even register a memory of it
Maybe it's all this rel/secular philos. is new to me cause I haven't got preached to or had this droned into me on munerous occasions ...it's practically new to me...guess i greatly lack religious exposure...
I mean wasn't Anbuthan Kaduvul get revealed much more poignantly in Anbae Sivam already?
and the rendition of "Kurai Ondrum Illai"....always loved that song...here it was at right moment...but i have heard it rendered gorgeously by Sushilla Madam...this was...ok...is it cheesy that i was thinking about the movie philos long after it was done?
But you do have to admit it was waaaay better than Pulikesi and Alaggappan...
Prakash Raj is an actor i highly respect...i liked his portrayal of God...didn't look like he was trying hard though, and Santhanam i would have chosen over Vivek any day (judging from Vivek's once fresh now repetitive material)...

whoa, amazing lecture that was. :P
Q, PS sang kurai ondrummillai? when? I only know of MS song...
Agree with you that Vivek would have been a better choice. Santhanam is sooo
clueless.
But disagree that its better than pulikEsi

the most irritating aspect of the movie to me was the preaching that people should be content with whatever they have.........i mean, how would u say that to a sweeper or a watchman??? how can they be content with their life or who are you to tell him to be content with watever he has got...........
i'm sure this movie didnt come after shankar's QA testing

over Vivek any day" I liked Santhanam in the role!!!
