dedicating this forum relating tamil films which have different storyline and not concentrating on love theme as the main part of the film.
here are my few examples:-

1. kannathil muttamitaal
in search of her true identity and her mother.

2. anjali
story of a family coping with their child who has learning disability and later the bereavment process of losing the child.

3. kutty
underage girl working in urban area.. story of struggle and hardship in rural areas.

4. porkalam

5. sethu

(But a majority of serials nowadays is based on this storyline.. Heroine painful breadwinner ... A big family Each one having their problems.. Heroine the only intelligent, patient, too good to be true person.... who bears all her problems and readily solves others problems... etc.. This story now makes me sick. But this was a different story at that time of its release)

Unmai - A film with mammootty in the lead .. its a detective movie where Mamootty goes on a trail for an assassin and the ppl behind him. A real gud movie worth watching.

Mounam Sammadham - Another mammootty starrer in which he is a lawer and its also a murder investigation plot.

Has anyone seen the Hindi remake of Vaali, "Sheesha", starring Neha Dupia * 2?

If you thought Vivek's comedy in Vaali was the ultimate, check this out . Especially the fight scene where Neha's lover is attacked by robbers

my picks would be

Sigapu Roja(Ithink its the first psycological thriller)
Agni Nakshatiram(though a bit cinematic,this movie was different in the sense its about the enimity and hatred that exists between 2 half brothers)
Anjali(no words need to describe it)

I wanted to mention only these movies because I cant think of any other movie which has been made along these lines..

Following the overwhelming response to the film, the producer has decided to release the film in English keeping the global audience in mind. The title will be �The Kingmaker.�

Salangai oli - This is truely one awesome movie.Though the story is about love,it drives home the point that love is not "having a life together".

Jayalakshmi and Jeyandrar in Tamil cinema?

Nexus between the cops and the �bad boys�. Skeletons tumbling out of the cupboard. Sex, sleaze, and betrayal. The real life episodes of Sivakasi Jayalakshmi and Kanchi Jeyanderar, which took the state by storm, have enough stuff to make even films pale in comparison. Reason why, debutante director, Manohar has plans of making a film titled �Naangaam Pakkam', which will be a hybrid of both.

�Kutti� Arjun who acted as a child artiste in Rajini�s film �Naan Adimai Illai� is the hero of the film. TV artiste Kalyani is the heroine. The film also has a second hero. Director Manohar says although it is based on real life incidents, there will be no derogatory remarks that would hurt the sentiments of the characters in real life. One song sequence will be shot in Australia. The film is said to have the right mix of a commercial hit, and the shooting is to hit the floors on April 14th.
