Hey guys !!! Just like how we have a thread for the new best actresses, I thought why not have one for the new best actors ... like the young guns rockin the industry ....

Acid test for Arya

Arya is an up and coming actor with lots of promise. With his performance in both Arindhum Ariyamalum and Ullam Ketkumae getting him acclaim, much was expected from his next venture Oru Kalorien Kathai. Unfortunately it did not do well at the box-office putting more pressure on him to deliver a hit in his next release Kalaba Kadhalan.

The movie is directed by a debutant Igor and features Renuka Menon opposite him.

Having been censored without any cuts and handed over a 'A' certification, Kalaba Kadhalan will hit theatres on 17 February.

The romantic thriller carries good report among the film distributors.

Arya has Pattiyal followed by a movie titled July Kattril to be directed by his mentor Jeeva. Also in the pipeline are a few offers, which includes a movie with director Saran.

All depends on the good showing in Kalaba Kadhalan. Let's hope that Arya hits the bull's eye in Kalaba Kadhalan.

  After a good outing in Sandai Kozhi, Vishal will be doing a movie again for his home production GK Films Corporation. The movie would be directed by his elder brother Vikram.
  
  The movie has been titled Thimir.
  
  Talking about the movie, Vishal says, 'it would be a movie which would have all commercial ingredients and would repeat the success of Sandai Kozhi'
  
  Meanwhile, his Sandai Kozhi is all set for a release in Tollywood.
  
  The Telugu dubbing has been titled Pandhayam Kozhi and would hit the theatres on 17 February.
  
  The distributors have evinced keen interest on the movie and we hope to make it big there, he says.
  
  After completing Thimir, I would start to accept movies in outside banners, says Vishal.

  Jeeva son of noted financier-producer R.B.Choudary of ‘Super Good films’ was launched with Asai Asaiyai and later Thithikkuthe, both bombed badly! The young actor should have gone to oblivion, but he surprised the critics and trade with Ameer directed Raam that released with no hype or hoopla. With this film, Jeeva made his detractor eat their words that he could not act and was just another young man with industry clout dabbling in cinema. Raam was not only critically acclaimed but was a hit.
  
  Now Jeeva’s next film Dishyum is also different from the run-of-the-mill variety love stories. In an interview with Moviebuzz Jeeva opens up.
  
  What is the first day response from Dishyum?
  It’s very encouraging. For me, more than anything else it is the response from public that matters the most. My phone has not stopped ringing. And the media reviews about the film are positive and has taken a fantastic opening, read sify.com (Laughs). And with no opposition the film should do well.
  
  But you are lucky being the son of one of the top producers in Tamil and Telugu industry. Please comments?
  But my dad has not produced or distributed Dishyum. I am glad that after Raam the trade has a faith in me. I was drawn into films at a very young age and have done a course on special effects as I preferred to be behind the camera! I got admission to the Vancouver Film School after completing courses in web designing and multimedia and around this time, I though of giving acting a try. That’s how Asai Asaiyai happened.
  
  After doing two candy floss love stories why did you accept Raam a slightly off-beat with an unconventional hero role?
  This character of an autistic guy, who is extremely possessive about his mother, was interesting when I heard the script from Ameer. I knew that it was not easy for me to get into the skin of the character. I had to change my looks, gait and mannerisms completely and all that hard work paid off. I was accepted by people who had written me off.
  
  They say that in Dishyum you are the scene –stealer without having to mouth lengthy dialogues or do mindless action. Please comment
  Dishyum is a sweet love story about a stuntman and a sculptor. My character ‘Risk’ Bhaskar is an innocent, uneducated young man with no family. He is frank and lovable. I got trained in kung fu and gymnastics.
  
  What are your current projects?
  E is almost complete and is about gangsters and their life. I am currently working on Pori for director Siva Subramaniam and will also be doing a bilingual with Mohanlal directed by Major Ravi.

  After ‘Aaru,’ Surya has just put down his weapons. And now Dhanush’s ‘Pudupettai’ is going to be full of knives and bloodshed. Jeeva follows with ‘E’ with Arya and Bharath in ‘Pattiyal.’ The common binding factor for all these guys is, they are all lords of the Chennai slums! In other words, rowdies!
  
  Another such film is ‘Naalai.’ “Naalai is a belief. There’s no certainty about it. Especially for one who has taken up rowdyism as a profession,” says director Udayabanu Maheswaran with emphasis. Richard is a rowdy without a future. His friendship with salesgirl Madhumita gives him hope for a tomorrow.
  
  Producer S Nallamuthu invokes our interest in ‘Naalai.’ Having learnt cinematography and settled in Delhi, he is a lover of short films. His film ‘Wheel’ received the Screen Oscar award recently.

  Thanks to Dishoom, music director Vijay Anthony has announced his arrival in Kollywood.
  
  ‘Though Sukkran won me good name, since the movie had only an average run, I could not get many offers. Thankfully, Dishoom has got me that'.
  
  A student of Visual Communication, Vijay Anthony said, 'it was Oscar Ravichandran who chose me for Dishoom first. Then S A Chandrasekhar gave me the opportunity to work in Sukkran. However the latter had a early release'.
  
  For Vijay Anthony, besides scoring music, penning lyrics is a favorite hobby. He had penned four songs in Sukkran.

  Promising start precede big blunders. The first half an hour of Chitirram Pesuthadi builds up your hope of seeing a good gangster movie but it all comes crashing down as the film drags on at snail pace and finally ends with a whimper.
  
  Director Mysskin wanted to depict a love story between a hard-hearted henchman of a gangster and how his heart gradually softens for a young, educated, attractive and above all aggressive girl who also develops a liking for him. All the vital elements of a good love story are unfortunately missing a few sleight of hand script shortcuts give the movie an amateurish feel.
  
  Still there is something in the treatment to keep you absorbed though it is a bit too long at 2 hours and 25 minutes! Thiru (Narian) is an unemployed youth who is drafted by the gangster of the area Annachi (Kathal Dandapani) as his chief henchman seeing his courage and dare-devil fighting capabilities!
  
  Soon Thiru meets Charu (Bhavana) a local NGO who fights injustice. They start on a wrong footing but the hate soon develops into love and they plan to get married. Charu transform Thiru from an emotionless henchman to a loving guy who along with some of his gang members gives up their gangster life to lead a peaceful existence as roadside salesmen.
  
  But one day Charu sees Thiru bundled into a police van from a brothel. She has a change of mind and her father commits suicide. Charu blames Thiru and they drift apart and he goes back to Annachi. But later Charu realizes the real truth and Thiru had done the supreme sacrifice to save her honour. She realizes her mistakes but is it too late?
  
  The screenplay writer and director Mysskin inundate the script with action, songs, an item song, comedy and sentiments but fails to accelerate the sluggish pace of narration. Narain screeches most of the time and has limited expressions which leaves you cold. Bhavana makes an impressive debut in Tamil with a good performance.
  
  On the positive side Mahesh Muthusamy’s camera is eye catching and the music by Sundar. C.Babu is good especially the gana number Vazha Meenu… sung by Ghana Ulaganathan and picturised on him and Malavika. There is too much melodrama and mush towards the end. It looks like Mysskin was weighed down by the needs to pander to the box-office.

  Director Bhagyaraj is a terrible task master and he doesn’t spare his own daughter when it comes to matters of profession. Bhagyaraj’s daughter, Saranya Bhagyaraj is making her debut with Paarijatham, directed by Bhagyaraj himself. In the romantic and love scenes, he doesn’t mind those close and romantic love scenes shot in his presence. In fact, he goads his daughter to bring out her best and make the scenes as close to real life as possible. “Once you are in the profession, you can’t afford to be choosy.   Siddharth’s time has come

  Boys fame Siddharth is riding high now.
  
  His latest Hindi release Rang De Basanti which stars Aamir Khan in the lead role has brought him fans all over the country.
  
  His role as Bhagat Singh or Karan has won him rave reviews (incidentally, this role was originally set for Hrithik Roshan). Now after seeing him in the role, young girls are just going gaga.
  
  He certainly had a debut in Shankar's Boys for it did not do well at the box-office. Thankfully his next venture in Telugu (NVNV directed by Prabhu Deva) won him fans in Andhra Pradesh.
  
  Now the young actor has managed to leave his acting skills all over the country thanks to Rakesh Omprakash Mehra's Rang De Basanti.
  
  However Siddharth is not bowled over now. He wants to play it safe.
  
  He says, 'I will be very choosy and continue to accept films with great caution'.

  Richard, Shalini Ajith's brother, made his debut with director Kathir's Kadhal Virus. Though he has acted in a few movies after Kadhal Virus, he is still looking for a break.
  
  Now, he is pinning hopes on his forthcoming venture Naalai which stars Madhumitha opposite him.
  
  'Naalai has the trappings of a film in the lines of capturing the intimate friendship of two rowdies', says director Udayabhanu Maheswaran.
  
  The challenge was in touching the segments in the relationship of two individuals, condemned by the society, he adds.

  Paired with Priyamani in Madhu, Ramesh has two more films in hand - Nee Venunda Chellam and Madurai Veeran.
  
  Ramesh says,'my next release would be Madhu, which has come good. It has all the trappings to become a hit. Acting with Priyamani was a relishing experience. She taught me few tricks on how to emote before the camera, he says. Directed by Thennarasu, Madhu has Vivek playing the comedian's role.
  
  According to Thennarasu, 'I was fortunate to find a producer like Thanga Sekar, who was impressed by the storyline. Such a support is imperative for a director looking to send across the message in a different way. An entertaining romantic movie is Madhu'.

  Bhavana is like a little apsara. She is the heroine of ‘Chithiram Pesudhadi.’ Kodambakkam is abuzz with news about this pretty apsara. In her very first film, she has given a performance worthy of an Urvashi award, so she’s being flooded with congratulatory bouquets.

  Tanisha, younger sister of Kajol is making her debut in Kollywood along with a new boy Vinay in cameraman Jeeva’s July Katru for leading producer Oscar Ravichandran. Vinay is a model for many products including Fair & Lovely.
  
  The film will start rolling from March 5, with a one-week schedule in Chennai followed by a one-month shoot in Canada. July Katru will have music by Harris Jayaraj and Sada is likely to be the other heroine.
  
  Tanisha made her debut with Sssshhh, Sarkar and later with Uday Chopra in Neal & Nikki. She has the right pedigree- granddaughter of yesteryear heroine Shobhana Samarth, daughter of Tanuja and Shomu Mukherjee, niece of Nutan and Ajay Devgan is her brother-in-law.   Things are not working well for Arthi Agarwal, the actress who made her debut in the Venkatesh starrer, Nuvu Naakku Nacchavu. She slipped and fell down on to the floor at home. Sustaining serious head injury, she was rushed to Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad. Reports say that she is in the ICU in a critical condition. She has had a blood clot inside the head.   His first film 7G Rainbow Colony made everyone sit up and take notice of him. The movie gave him the right break.
  
  His next film, despite quite a decent storyline, was not a success.
  
  The young man is now desperate for a good movie that can keep him in the hunt.
  
  And who better to provide that than your father and brother? Well, Ravi Krishna’s next movie Kedi is produced by his father A M Rathnam while his brother Jyothi Krishna directs it.
  
  It is a family affair. But all the three are thorough professionals and know their roles and are doing them to the best of their ability.
  
  Kedi is a youthful flick and will have plenty of upbeat ideas. Young heroines Ileana and Tamanna are both in the cast. So, the glamour quotient is pretty high for the movie.
  
  The movie has been shot pretty fast and only the songs remain to be canned. Yuvanshankar Raja is the music director.
  
  Kedi, with the suffix Romantic Thief, needless to say, will have plenty of fun of the love variety.

  After her love for actor Tarun resulted in disappointment, Arti Agarwal tried to take her life and landed at death’s door. Fortunately, she was saved and resumed her career in films. She acted in ‘Bambarakannale’ and got busy in Telugu films too. But some other problems seem to have cropped up. With broken bones and head injury, she has been admitted to intensive care in hospital.
  
  Arti’s father is a businessman in the US. Though Arti is in India because of her love for films, her family spends most of its time in US only. Her mother and sister Aditi visit her every now and then in Hyderabad. During one of their visits, Arti has gone for a party with them. When returning, the lift got out-of-order. When walking upstairs, she has fallen off from the 6th floor. Thinking it was only minor bruises, her mother and sister gave Arti first aid themselves. When Arti did not wake up even after11am the next morning, they found to their shock that Arti was unconscious.
  
  After running to hospital and taking scans, the doctors found that Arti’s fall had made her blood clot in her brain. An emergency operation was done immediately. Her leg had also broken, so operation was done and a metal plate inserted. Her collar bone had broken as well, so, on the whole, she was a broken heap. What is strange is, when someone has been injured so gravely, why did not Arti’s mother and sister admit her to a hospital immediately?
  
  The watchman of the apartment where Arti lives says something that points a finger of suspicion. “Unlike what these people say, the day Arti fell, only Arti’s mother and sister went to the party. There was no problem with the left that day either.”
  
  The story of going to party…lift repair…Arti losing balance and falling…is not believable. So there’s a suspicion that Arti could have tried to again commit suicide.
  
  Arti Agarwal is a prominent Telugu actress. When such a terrible accident has happened to her, the whole Telugu film world should have flocked to the hospital. But one can swat flies, her chamber at the hospital is that empty. Why this indifference?

  The failure of Idaya Thirudan is a tremendous setback for Jayam Ravi. The film is turning out to be his biggest flop as it failed even to get an opening!
  
  Everybody in the trade likes Ravi as is a cool guy but they say that Idaya Thirudan is a bigger flop than his last Mazhai. In Chennai city, the collections were so pathetic that theatres are refusing to give figures. Added to that in other parts of Tamilnadu too, the film has failed to collect.
  
  However the trade blames that the film for its excessive glamour and carried an ‘A’ certificate. Added to that the lip-to-lip kissing was not accepted by the conservative Tamil audience and ladies and family audience stayed away.   Her family sources claim that Arthi, her sister Adithi and their mother had gone for dinner at Hotel Paradise, day before yesterday. While they entered their apartment complex, they found that the lift was not working. So, the three climbed the stairs and Arthi slipped and fell down. While she complained of headache after about an hour, she took some painkillers and went to sleep. Yesterday, her family got worried when she did not wake up. They found her unconscious and rushed her to the hospital. A team of three doctors led by neurosurgeon, Alok Ranjan, performed emergency procedure. Dr. Ranjan said, ”Arthi was brought in an unconscious condition. She had a massive clot in her brain, which developed quite quickly after getting injured.
  
  She has slipped into a coma and her condition is quite critical”. She has also suffered multiple fractures in her neck and ankles. Doctors have also operated and inserted rods in her feet. When media enquired the watchman of the apartment, he said that the lift had been working perfectly for the past two days. Banjara Hills Police Inspector said that since this was a case of accidental fall, he had not registered a case.
  
  Hyderabad is quite abuzz with the latest development because the young actress is quite popular there. She is said to be a temperamental person given to impulsive behavior. This recent episode proves that all is not well in the lives of leading ladies who sizzle on the screen.

  Sonia Agarwal was introduced by Selvaraghavan in his Kadhal Kondein and she also starred in Selvaraghavan's next 7G Rainbow Colony.
  
  Rumors did rounds that the duo had developed difference of opinions during the shooting of Pudhupettai and fell apart.
  
  According to a section of press, Sonia Agarwal reportedly pulled off from a movie to be directed by cinematographer Jeeva stating that she would be marrying Selvaraghavan and she doesn't want to continue acting.
  
  When contacted Sonia Agrawal said that they have indeed patched up. ‘However nothing has been decided about our marriage plans. We will let everyone know as soon as everything is fixed'.

The whole episode has sent shock waves in Tollywood, because Arthi is a leading actress there. The fate of her film, Anthalaramudu, hangs in balance.   Oh Brother, not again! Kovai Brothers smacks of nepotism as Satyaraj goes all out to promote his son once again by not only giving him punch line dialogues, better action scenes but also gifting Namitha, his favourite heroine! What more can a father do for his dear son to promote his career?
  
  Satyaraj and Sibiraj play friends in the film who come from a village near Coimbatore to Chennai city with a purpose. They want to avenge the death of Uma, Satyaraj’s sister and Sibi’s girlfriend! Bureaucratic bugling and corruption in hospitals had led to Uma’s death. They take up jobs as anchors in a TV station to host ‘Kovai Brothers” which exposes the neglect and rampant corruption in the system. Namitha is an anchor (a take on Pepsi Uma) who hosts a popular programme and both the friends wager a bet to woo her!
  
  How both turn vigilante and kills the district collector, a doctor and then go back to their town with Namitha forms the predictable story. The film lacks logic or sense and rests purely on Satyaraj’s ‘lollu’ dialogues and his takes on Suriya’s Ghajini, S.J.Suryah’s New, Simbu’s Manmathan and also pokes fun at stars joining politics.. Vadivelu’s comedy track has nothing new to offer other than some toilet jokes, while Kovai Sarala takes on Asin. Namitha does her glam act to perfection.

  I read somewhere that he is a chennai vaasi and I think he knows tamil pretty well.Cant believe he is not a tamilian.As I said I heard him speak on SUNTV in one of the New Year programmes and his tamil was good .The normal way chennaites speak.He didnt have an accent or anything.He is a muslim and his real name is some Jamshad or something like that.

  Named for the moon, Nila's film career that was going great, has suddenly run into a dark phase. She had one film in hand, but she has turned down even that and flown off to Hyderabad, saying Telugu films are the best.
  
  What's the reason?
  
  It all started with Nila asking for mineral water to bathe in for the particular scene in 'Jambavan' where Nila is supposed to be bathing in a bath tub. This annoyed producer Sathya, but Nila refutes the charge. She says all she asked for was clean water and not mineral water, as the water in the tub was not clean.
  
  Like a scene from one of its films, Kodambakkam was abuzz with tales that Sathya wrung Nila's hand in anger and locked her up in her room and how Nila escaped from that hell and flew off to Hyderabad. The Producers association showed Nila the red card and after discussions, Nila agreed to continue shooting for 'Jambavan.'
  
  But all this is old story. Next month is the release of 'Bangaram' in which Nila has acted. Since it's a Dharani film, business is already good. Perhaps Nila dreams that this film would pave the way for her to get another half a dozen offers easily. As it is, she's the heroine of the film staring Nitin.
  
  When her market is soaring in Andhra, why should she put up with being insulted in Tamil films? So, Nila has waved goodbye to 'Jambavan' that she had agreed to act in. So, what about the red card issued by the Producers Association?
  
  When the association is still grappling with its internal problems, who cares whether it is a red or black card for Nila!

  With South India Film Artistes Association aka Nadigar Sangam urging their members not to give any interviews to the satellite channels, caught in a catch 22 situation are several young heroes and heroines.
  
  With several of them have their movies getting released in the forthcoming months, they believe that such restriction would affect the prospects of their movies. However they fear disobeying the orders of their association. Blessing in disguise has come through corporate brand endorsements.
  
  It is learnt that several artistes have started to endorse brands and appear in commercials being screened in various channels.
  
  It is felt that a since it has got nothing to do with movie promotion, they cannot be faulted. Almost half-a-dozen heroines and few up and coming heroes had few commercials shot starring them recently.

  The only girl for whom the Jeyam Ravi sentiment did not work is Renuka Menon. Now what is this Jeyam Ravi sentiment? Well, Kodambakkam holds it that if you pair with Jeyam Ravi you become a top heroine. It cites Asin, Sada and Shreya as examples. Even Kamna Jethmalani is making her way in Telugu with her recent hit Ranam there. Poor Renuka Menon, Das did not help her in any way.

  Ileana or Tamanna – who’ll floor KD?

  Ravikrishna is eagerly awaiting release of his KD. As also the two glamour sirens – Ileana and Tamanna. They have created a lot of expectation. There won’t be any shortage of glamour feast they say. The movie has been made keeping in mind the youth audience which pack the theatres these days. KD is the remake of the Telugu hit Jadoo carrying the tag line, Romantic Thief. The two glamour dolls pair with Ravi Krishna. Atul Kulkarni (remember this villain from Run or from the recent RDB?) plays the villain while Yuvan Shankar Raja scores the music. The man behind the mega-phone is Jyothi Krishna, the elder brother of Ravikrishna, the hero. Both are A M Rathnam's sons.
  
  Jyothikrishna is well-known in Andhra for his hit Nee Manausu Naaku Thelusu. But for the five songs, the production is complete. The movie is slated to release in May this year.

  Actor Jeeva is happy these days. Two good movies his credit—Ram and Dishoom—the guy is all set to establish himself as an artiste. And then, he has his father’s support to prop him up in the industry. However, for all that, he is a very unassuming guy. Recently he entered the AVM Studio in a dirty T-shirt and pant that he was wearing for a shot for E. The security person at the gate could not recognize him and he refuse to allow him to enter. Only after Jeeva rang up Jananathan, the director was he allowed in. Jeeva is proud that he was not recognized. So realistic was the make over.   Director M Raja is upbeat about his forthcoming flick Something Something Enakkum Unakkum. Though the remake of a Telugu hit, Raja says that the Tamil version will be new to moviegoers here, especially the way the story is narrated on screen. Near a remote village in Tamil Nadu, they have created a set of an entire village on a five-acre land. The crew stays there. Also, they have laid roads and street lamps for easy accessibility.
  
  For the people of surrounding villages, it has become a great entertainment, watching the vehicles come and go, the generator constantly buzzing and the lead cast, Trisha and Jeyam Ravi moving in a friendly way with them. Trisha and Ravi are simply carried away by the love and affection shown to them by the local folks. Whether political parties adopt a village or not, our industry has made the first move.

  It may be recalled Koodal Nagar was supposed to hit the floors last year. Unfortunately financial constraints faced by its producers (G J Cinemas) resulted in its delay.

  The dirty mechanic and the sprightly kalaabakadhalan shot together in 'Pattiyal' and became thick pals. "Now the shooting for 'Pattiyal' is over. It is sad to think we cannot spend fun time on the sets anymore," says Bharath in an emotional voice - like Mohan in 'Payanangal Mudivathillai'!
  
  After 'Veyil,' Bharath is acting in 'Koodal Nagar.' When G J Films backed out of making 'Koodal Nagar' because of financial problems, Annamalai Films stepped in to resurrect it.
  
  For the first time, Bharath will be doing a dual role in this film. There are 2 heroines in the film. One is a young lady from the slums. The other is a teacher, like one would see in a Bharatiraja film, with high combed hair and swinging an umbrella.
  
  Sandhya was supposed to do one of the two roles. Plans are now on by the director Seenu Ramasamy to scout for fresh faces. The director and producer are so keen to start the shooting by April that we can expect some concrete news shortly.

  Vishnuvardhan is the new style mannan among Tamil film directors, as proved by his debut film and now the latest Pattiyal. Stylistically inventive throughout, Vishnu’s foray into Chennai’s mean street inhabited by hired killers and ordinary slum dwellers arouse your interest and admiration for the director.
  Video footage, moodily-lit authentic locations, intermittent flashes of zippy-zappy editing, top-line performances, digital imaging, knock out action scenes, great music and re-recording are just some of the highlights.
  
  Pattiyal has a straightforward plot with an emotional core. Vishnu has beautifully etched out the friendship and bonding between two orphans, Koshy (Arya) and Selva (Bharath) who are hired killers for a middleman Sami (VMC Haneefa). Koshy is an emotionless, rough and tough guy who talks a lot while Selva is a fearless, deaf and dumb guy with some human emotions.
  
  They are happy with whatever they make out of as contract killers for the rich and powerful and can’t think of life beyond their slums. Saroja (Padmapriya), a girl working in a garment company is crazy about Koshy who does not have any feeling for her. Selva meets Sandhya (Pooja) a salesgirl in a medical shop and they fall in love, which brings out the hidden romantic feelings and emotions in him. One day Sami gets them a big contract to kill a Kovai based businessman and politician Nachimuthu Gounder (Santhanabharathy), which turns their life upside down leading to a savage and brutal climax.
  
  On the acting front, Vishnu has extracted astonishingly life-like performance from the lead cast. As Sami the middleman, VMC Haneefa is a surprise packet. Padmapriya as Saro is a revelation totally contrary to the image she had so far while Pooja as Sandhya is good. Arya is so hot-n-cool that you feel the fire-n-ice within. His body language and mannerism personifies the wry gangster with dollops of humour and his romantic encounters with Padmapriya are fun to watch.
  
  But it is Bharath who is virtually the scene stealer. He has an author-backed role and you cannot take your eyes off him. As Selva the mute, he has an impassive face and his large eyes convey all the strangled emotions of a person unable to communicate with people around him. The scene where he bumps off Gounder towards the climax has the audience clapping and whistling!
  
  Technically, Pattiyal is top class. Nirav Shah’s lighting and camerawork, Raj Kannan’s dialogues and Sreekar Prasad’s crisp editing gives the film an extra edge. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music and background score is the life of the film and the songs are brilliantly inserted into the narrative. The first half is slightly slow while the tempo catches up in the last twenty minutes of the film which is racy and riveting. Vishnuvardhan has etched out the mute Selva character from Bangkok Dangerous and the atmosphere of City of Gods.
  
  On the whole, Pattiyal is the most realistic gangster movie made in recent times with style and substance.
  
  Verdict: Go, watch it!

  Cheran’s ‘Dream theatres’ has now completed the shoot of their Bharath-Mallika Kapoor starrer Azhagai Irukkirai Bayamai Irukkirathu (AIBI). The audio of the film has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja which will be launched tomorrow (March 25) in Chennai.
  
  After winning a lot of accolades as a mute killer in Vishnuvardhan’s Pattiyal, Bharath is banking heavily on AIBI to regain his position as a solo hero. After Boys and Kathal his two big hits, and a flop in Februray 14, the young hero is once again playing a lover boy.
  
  Said Bharath: “In both my hits I played a lower middle class guy but in AIBI, the director has given a lot of importance to my looks as I play an upper class guy”. Mallika Kapoor the petite looking heroine who made her debut with a Malayalam film directed by Vinayan is all set to capture Kollywood with her bubbly and cute looks.
  
  AIBI is the debut film of cameraman Vijay Milton and is said to be a vanilla coated candy floss love story with a twist with Arun Kumar playing a pivotal role. But the highlight of the film is Yuvan’s five peppy songs.

  When ‘February 14’ got released, the theaters on Mount Rd wore a deserted look. People bypassed him in the role of a dirty mechanic, but Bharath went on to make another avatar – the deaf and mute role in ‘Pattiyyal.’
  
  His portrayal in the film has won him so many accolades that he even has a small fan following now. If you see the list of films Bharath has on hand, it looks like he will soon give Ilaya Dalapathy and the Ultimate Star a run for their money.

  Vishal, who is acting right now in ‘Thimiru’ is the hero of Palaniappan’s next film.

  Pattiyal has done a world of good to Bharath, basking in the company of the screen charmer Arya. Admittedly, the pressure was on Bharath, not for want of footage but in having to carry it off as a deaf and dumb ruffian. Having come out with flying colours, he has justifed the confidence of director Vishnu Vardhan in matching strides with a saleable actor.
  
  Importantly, the timing was perfect for Bharath, after his career-graph took a dip following the debacle of February 14. Now the actor eagerly awaits the release of his next Azhagay Irukrai Bayamai Irukiradhu.
  
  The film marks the directorial debut of Vijay Milton. He joins the list of successful cinematographers taking to direction, in the film produced by actor-director Cheran.
  
  Bharath is paired with Mallika Kapur, who had a significant part in the success of the Malayalam film Adbhuta Dweepu directed by Vinayan.
  
  Milton has the huge responsibility of handling the story, screenplay, dialogues and direction besides cinematography. Bollywood's reputed dance master the big-made Ganesh Acharya tests his wares against Bharath in a dance number.
  
  'Not everyday you aspire to get such roles. Once I fell in love with that character, it was a question of application,' said Bharath. Is he worried by the weight of responsibility, with the expectations on a feverish pitch, post Pattiyal ?
  
  'Only in good scripts you get enormous scope to perform. My career is still to take off fully but has seen success and failure. Still it is a learning phase for me, happy to work with directors who put their thinking caps on.
  
  Hoping to get a good chit in subsequent films.' Yuvan Shankar Raja's music and the cameos played by actors Arun Kumar and Deepu are the other highlights.

  Jeeva and Yuvan Shankar Raja have won the best actor and best music director awards for Ameer directed Raam at the prestigious Cyprus International Film festival. The last Tamil film to get an award at this festival was Veerapandiakattabomman 45 years back!
  
  Raam has done wonders to Jeeva뭩 career and director Ameer who had represented the film in Greece received the prestigious award on Jeeva뭩 behalf.
  
  Said a beaming Jeeva to Moviebuzz: 밃ctually I never expected to get this award otherwise I would have definitely gone with Ameer to Greece. I feel that he is the right person to receive it, as it is his film?

  It’s unbelievable! After Sivaji Ganesan, actor Jeeva has won the best actor’s award on an international level. This surprise happened at the Cypress International Film Festival.
  
  At a Cairo Film Festival, Sivaji Ganesan and ‘Veerapandia Kattabomman’ were chosen best actor and best film. After 45 years, actor Jeeva has done Tamilnadu proud.
  
  The Cypress International Film Festival is an important festival and 200 films from several countries were screened. Out of that, 11 films including ‘Ram’ were in the contest for best film award. From Asia, only the Tamil film and a Chinese film were among the 11.
  
  Ameer, the director of ‘Ram’ attended the film festival at Cypress on invitation from them. Yesterday, the announcements of the award winners were made. The best award went to Jeeva and best music to ‘Ram’ much to the delight of Ameer. Jeeva was informed on telephone immediately and he fell at his parents’ feet for their blessings.
  
  This is the first award that Jeeva is getting and this being an international award, his happiness is doubled.
  
  The Cannes Film Festival is held in higher esteem than even the Oscar awards. The question arose about the presence of commercial actors like Aishwarya Rai in a serious film festival that according to many had brought down the value of the festival as one for serious/art cinema.
  
  If Jeeva had been given the national award for best actor, it would have created a lot of debate. The reason is, there are many actors who have given a better performance than Jeeva in this category of films. But Jeeva won this award at an international film festival. So, there are people who may consider this as a justification for criticizing the international film festival.
  
  Whatever be the case, there is no doubt that this is an honor for Tamil cinema!

Pooja the Bangalore based girl had a dream debut in Saran directed Jay Jay in which she had a glamour role. An interview with an actress who feels she has just arrived!
  Did you always want to be an actress?
  
  I came into films by sheer coincidence. I am basically a very shy and reserved person. Jeeva sir spotted me at Brigade road in Bangalore and offered me a role in his Ullam Ketkume. My friends persuaded me and I thought that I will give it a try. But it was Jay Jay that released first and then there was no looking back. Then came Attagasam , Jithen and a Sri Lankan film Anjalika.
  
  Do you think that Jay Jay a film with two heroines was the right launch film for you?
  Like I told you, I was pretty raw and did not have any Godfathers to back me and help me choose the right script. I didn’t even know what the story of the film was, when I signed it. But thanks to God, I was very lucky to get good films and meet the right kind of people.
  
  Tell us about the success of Pattiyal?
  Patiyal team was like one big family. We all worked with passion and it showed on screen. Even after my part was over…I stayed back and used to come to the sets in the morning. Vishnu used to scream at me asking why I came? And even now we talk to each other and keep in touch. I got a great friend in Padmapriya. Now the film is a huge hit and We are all happy about it.
  
  What about Bharath, your co-star in Pattiyal?
  He is a very sweet person and we had lots of fun working together.
  
  How comfortable are you with onscreen intimacy?
  Blatant exposure is not welcome. But if it were to be captured aesthetically, then well I shouldn't have a problem.
  
  How was it working with Ajit and Madhavan?
  Both are wonderful actors and I should be grateful to God who is my only godfather in the industry to have met with some good people in the industry.
  
  Was it a disappointment when Thambi didn’t work?
  I thought it’s a hit in Coimbatore, Madurai and Bangalore. This film carried mixed response. There are lot of people who told me that they loved the film.
  
  Defining moments in life?
  The day I accepted Jesus Christ as my savior.. Though my dad is a Brahmin and mom is a Buddhist I became a Christian and that has given me a lot of peace and confidence in life.
  
  Your first pay cheque?
  I did some accounting for my dad and he paid me money. That was the first money that I got for working. Now in films whatever I earn I am planning to invest on land. I have a weakness to pick up gifts for my dear and near ones.
  
  Now do you choose your scripts?
  Yes.. now I understand the importance of a proper script and is very happy by the way my career is going ahead. I have completed Thakappansamy while I am shooting for Pori with Jeeva and Auto with Arya.

  There is a favourable alignment between the world cinema and ours. Our folks were honoured in the film festival held in Cyprus. It is a good sign that we can spot the local talent in the international film festivals held in Chennai.
  
  Chennai is hosting an Italian film festival between 5th and 8th April. Italian language films will be featured during the four day festival organized by the Italian Cultural Institute in Delhi, the Italian Consulate in Chennai and I.C A.
  
  The films will be screened in the auditorium at the Madras Chamber of Commerce. People from the Italian Cultural Institute will be participating in the function on the 4th.
  
  Pooja and Diya will participate from our side.
  
  There is no doubt that this festival will draw large crowds primarily because films like 'Bicycle Thief' and 'Melina' were Italian films. On the first day, 'Romeo and Juliet' will be screened. People who want to watch the films may approach the organizers I.CA Foundation in Chennai.
  
  This festival is a good occasion to participate for both the people who want to watch good films and those who want to steal good ideas!

  Sridevi Vijayakumar was one of the few actresses, who in spite of being the offspring of a popular film couple, failed to make any impact on the silver screen in Kollywood.
  
  Much was expected from the actress, whose father Vijayakumar and mother Manjula Vijayakumar, won for themselves a place in the industry.
  
  Though Sridevi acted in many movies including one opposite Dhanush in Devadhayay Kandein, she could not make it to top in Tamil. Now the actress has reportedly decided to try her luck in Kannada.
  
  Sridevi Vijayakumar would be playing the heroine's role in the Kannada remake of Tamil hit Kadhalukku Mariyadhai. The rest of the star cast are new-comers.

After taking a sabbatical, the tall, dark hero is back with the Susi Ganeshan-directed "Thiruttu Payale" with Sonia Aggarwal in the female lead. Jeevan plays a guy from the Chennai slums who falls in love with an Indian girl in Australia. Says Ganeshan: "It is an action thriller with a difference, shot mostly in Australia." Sonia has gone in for an image change and wears glamorous clothes, including a swimsuit, in the film. Bharadwaj's music, especially the number "Poi Sollaporen...", has become a chartbuster. Jeevan, a Chennai boy is a graduate in theatre and trained with the Stella Addler Academy of Acting in U.S. Now after three years, Jeevan the tall dark hero is back as the hero in Susi Ganeshan directed Tiruttu Payale releasing on April 14. In this exclusive interview Jeevan opens up
  
  Where did you disappear for almost three years?
  (Smiles) Well, I was around and this break was not a deliberate one. I got so many offers after Kaakha Kaakha to play the same villain role but I thought it was boring to be typecast. As a performer I wanted to try out something new. Susi Ganeshan’s script was very exciting when I heard it.
  
  What is your role in the film?
  It is a fast-paced action thriller and I play Manickam a lower middle class guy from village who develops an insatiable appetite for women and money when he comes to the city. It’s a very different kind of role and I am sure that the audience will relate to my character.
  
  How was it working with Sonia?
  She is a damn sweet person full of life and loads of talent.
  
  What are your future plans?
  I have a film titled Thotta which is getting ready. I waited for almost three years for Thiruttu Payale to happen and I don’t mind waiting to get another good script for my next film. Right now I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the release. Let’s see how the film is received and then I will be signing some new projects.
  
  Why did you cut that sexy long curly hair of yours that you spotted in Kaakha Kaakha?
  Even in Thiruttu Payale I have long hair but different style. I wanted an image change after Kaakha Kaakha and that why I cut my hair short. And believe me when filmmakers called me up to do anti-hero roles and when I tell them that I've cut my locks of hair, they hang up saying that they'll call up later (Smiles).

  Bharath has his plate full thanks to back-to-back hits in Pattiyal and Azhagai Irukkirai Bayamai Irukkirathu.
  
  The success has brought him offers from various production houses and some established directors have offered the lead role in their movie to Bharath.
  
  A thrilled Bharath says, 'I'm happy that I've been doing different types of roles for directors talented in different ways. I did get a lot of praise for Kadhal. After seeing Pattiyal, Vijay phoned to say that I was improving with each film. Vikram, Jyotika, Trisha, Suriya and others also have encouraged me. This gives me a great deal of strength and confidence'.
  
  Bharath is currently working in Veyil from director Shankar's film company. Directed by Vasantha Balan, it is an emotionally charged film shot in Virudhunagar.

  Jeeva has bloomed into a good actor after Raam and Dishyum, two films that won him critical acclaim and box-office success. In spite of being the son of noted producer R.B.Chowdary, Jeeva is extremely hardworking and disciplined and is choosing films with utmost care.
  He is very particular of not being typecast as his next release E is a gangster movie where he plays a gangster who is a loser. And in Aran, he plays a commando (see pic) in which he shares screen space with Mohanlal, one the finest actors in India directed by Major Ravi. The first schedule of the film is being shot at exotic locales of Srinagar with the support of BSF, CRPF and Kashmir police.

  Of all the young guns Barath seems to have the talent and other aspects to join the league of kamal one day. He has already proved his versatility in roles in pattiyal,chellamae and Kaadhal. He is also a trained dancer which was the main reason why he came to act in boys. Another Kamal sir in the making?...quite probably.

  My favourite is forever Jeeva. His is so good in acting. Raam was probably the best film a young newcomer has ever done recently.
  Jeeva did a Kamal/Vikram type of role in his third movie which is a extreme acheivement.
  
  But...I agree that Bharath is good in dancing. Jeeva's dancing was not as good as others in Dailamo...

  Girish when you have commitment, any role can suit you provided you also have some acting talent....that is why actors like Surya and Barath are successful...and now adding Jeeva to the list...he is not really the best actor but his commitment is very good...most probably the next Surya in trying out new roles.
