K. Balachander’s Kavithaalaya is producing the film Idhaya Thirudan. This film has Jeyam Ravi starring in it with Kamna as his pair. This film is produced by Puspha Kandaswamy. This movie is scheduled to be a Pongal release. The audio release of this movie is to be held today. Expect a set of freaky songs.

I am not sure why you have such a high hopes on Kavithaalya.... Did you watch a movie called 'Album'?

Idhaya Thirudan next week

Director Saran's much awaited Idhaya Thirudan is finally slated to hit theatres on 9 February. Being produced by K Balachander's Kavithalaya, the movie stars Jeyam Ravi and Kamna Jethmalani.

The highlight of the movie is that Saran is wielding the megaphone for his mentor K Balachander, who taught him the nuances of film-making once.

Speaking about the film, Saran, says,' like my earlier films, romance is the base with the lover-couple not facing any external problem, but mostly self-created ones. Commercial ingredients are well laced in the right mix to attract audience. Dialogues by Crazy Mohan, songs and stunts will have its say in the package which also has an item number from the Keralite Jyothirmayi.'

Heaping praises on music-director Bharadwaj, he says, 'his songs are going to rock the masses this year.'

Idhaya Thirudan also has Vani Viswanath, Nasser, Kalpana, Kaka Radhakrishnan, Madan Bob, Crazy Mohan and M S Baskar in the cast. After former heroines like Nathiya, Urvasi, Seetha and Saranya jumped on to the 'mother' bandwagon, Vani Viswanath too has followed suit.

The most refreshing thing about Idaya Thirudan is that it is well packaged as a youth entertainer with the correct masala concoctions. Saran has successfully made a comeback as a director who understands the nuances of commercial cinema. Saran has set the story in a hip and mod campus. What makes the film tick is its racy presentation as the hero tries to tame the hottie on high-heels.

Deepika (Kamna) is the daughter of Sudharani (Vani Viswanath) the Home Secretary and one of the most efficient and honest officer in the state. However Deepika considers her mom to be a tyrant and dictator and does everything possible to irritate her and is a rebel of sorts who is also a compulsive flirt and a spoilt brat.

Deepika dresses in skimpy clothes, flirts with all men, chews bubblegum and plays pranks on others-all which makes her mothers see red!! In one of her many ways to irritate her, she takes her own vulgar pictures on mobile and sends it to her mom through e-mail from a fictitious id of T.Mahesh.

But it may sound bizarre, there is a T. Mahesh (Jayam Ravi) a catering student who is a Mr Nice guy and his parents are television artists. The e-mail upsets Sudharani whose asks her right hand man AC Mayil Ravanan (Prakash Raj) ) who has a sneaky admiration for Deepika to track down the guy. Mahesh is arrested, beaten and later sent away with a warning not to follow Deepika. An innocent Mahesh once again gets into trouble when some ant-socials kidnap Deepika and the blame fall on him.

Later Mahesh sees Deepika and it is love at first sight for him. He confesses his love and believes that fate played cupid in the form of e-mail, kidnap drama and other incidents. But she does not think so and for her Mahesh is an extension of her dominating mother. She tells him that “You are nothing but my mother in jeans and shirt”! What follows is how Mahesh challenges that he will make her confess her love and Deepika takes the extreme step of deciding to marry Mayil Ravanan to prove her point.

Saran films have lots of glamour and beautiful babes and Idaya Thirudan is not far behind. There is a passionate lip lock between Ravi and Kamna, item number by Jyothirmayi, oodles of skin show and double entendre dialogues galore. No wonder the censors gave it an ‘A’certificate. On the positive side A.Venkatesh’s glossy camerawork and Bharadwaj’s tangy music score with “Unnai Thotta…” being the pick of the lot.

Jayam Ravi has improved in dialogue delivery and seems to have gone for an image change from his boy-next-door to a hunk look (a la Salman Khan!) showing his well-toned body. New girl Kamna has made an impressive debut and has flaunted her hour-glass figure to the maximum. Saran has a well-etched out role for her and she shows promise. Vani Viswanath and Prakash Raj add mirth to the proceedings while Santhanam, Kalpana and others provide lighter moments.

The sugar coated Idaya Thirudan is likely to steal your hearts.

Idhaya thirudan Review from CineSouth.

Youth, fancy and interesting frames are the redeeming feature of this film. But among unwanted scenes, they look like green stems strewn around a florist shop.

Interior Secretary Vani Viswanath’s daughter Kamna is an engineering college student. She takes her own photograph in sexy poses and e -mails them to her mother just to turn her attention from her involvement with work. To make it appear that it was sent by a man, she gives him the name of D Mahesh.

That is where the problem starts. She orders Assistant Commissioner Prakash Raj to investigate and find out the person who sent obscene photos of her daughter. The boy with the name of D Mahesh who is caught in the net of Prakashraj is the Catering student Jayem Ravi.

Connecting the obscene photos to Kamna, Jayem Ravi starts chasing her. The climax is if engineering and catering could combine. He steals the police trophy and runs away in his scooter. Knowing full well that Kamna is Interior Secretary’s daughter, he teases her as if she was born to marry him. He goes into Police Commissioner’s office and plays hide and seek with Prakashraj. Jayem Ravi’s heroism is thoroughly lost in all these frivolous going about.

Every scene of Kamna with her chiseled face and nose sends heat waves. Belly is not meant for spinning a top and making omelet alone, but they have shown her belly as large as making a special dosa. Kamna’s mother might as well be the owner of a chewing gum factory rather than the Interior Secretary. The number of chewing gums Kamna eats in every scene would have helped to paste posters of this film.

Eligible bachelor Prakashraj, believing that Kamna is in love with him brings out romantic emotions on his face that end up as comedy.

It is unfortunate that the director never thought of the purpose of characters like Nasser who acts as Jayem Ravi’s father and the Villain G K.

After the interval, Vani Viswanath appears as a strict officer and a good mother. A fitting performance just like her perfect body.

Santhanam’s comedy is drab. The comedy of Gnanasambandan - Kalpana duo appearing as foster parents of Jayem Ravi provides some relief.

Kudos to Vikram Dharma who has designed a fight sequence like the polo game – a first time in Tamil films.

Charan-Bharadwaj combination generally makes the music interesting. But in ‘Idhayathirudan,’ the music is disappointing.

However, the expectations of college students are strewn around the movie and thereby Charan could escape.

Saran, disciple of K. Balachander, directs Idhaya Thirudan for his mentor’s Kavithalaya, produced by Pushpa Kandaswamy. Like all of Balachander’s movies, this has a totally different story and treatment with dialogues written by “Crazy” Mohan. This is a love story which starts out differently, and develops in an interesting manner.

Sheela Rani Raghupathy (Vani Viswanath) is the Home Secretary of the state, and Deepika (Kamna Jethmalani) is her only fun loving, freaky, college-going, pampered daughter. Since Deepika feels stifled by the strict constraints placed on her by her mother, she writes emails to herself, signed by some imaginary person T. Mahesh. When Vani Viswanath sees this mail, she asks ACP Mayil Ravanan (Prakash Raj), to investigate and take action against T. Mahesh. She also entrusts the job of apprehending a dreaded gangster (Nasser), who is hiding, to ACP Mayil Ravanan.

Though Deepika does not know him at all, T. Mahesh (Jeyam Ravi) is a real person, a student of catering technology, he also does not know Deepika. On the instructions of Sheela Rani, ACP Mayil Ravanan, mistaking Mahesh to be the person harassing Deepika, zeroes in on him, takes him to task and asks him to stop communicating with Deepika. When Mahesh protests his innocence, he is beaten up. Enraged, he goes in search of this person Deepika who has made baseless and false complaints against him. Gradually Mahesh falls for Deepika. In order to avoid Mahesh, Deepika enacts a drama. She proposes to Mayil Ravanan. However, a relentless Mahesh continues his love for her. A series of events results in Mayil Ravanan and Mahesh becoming friends. Meanwhile, through Sheela Rani, Mahesh's past is revealed. He is the son of the gangster (Nasser) in hiding. Elsewhere, Sheela Rani arranges for the marriage between Mayil Ravanan and Deepika. How opposite poles and contrasting characters attract, and sworn enemies fall in love is the tagline of the film.

Ravi, the hero, plays the part of a soft hero, unlike his usual hot and angry young man act in earlier movies. He has acted well. Kamna Jethmalani, the granddaughter of former minister Mr. Ram Jethmalani, is the heroine; this is her first film in Tamil. She has fulfilled her role quite well, better than can be expected of a debut heroine whose mother tongue is not Tamil. She has revealed more of her beauty in less clothes. Prakash Raj has lifted each scene with his presence and comic timing. Vani Viswanath has made a grand comeback as a Home Secretary.

Nasser, Kalpana, Kaka Radhakrishnan, Madan Bob, Ramesh Kanna, Santhanam, M.S. Baskar, Crazy Mohan and others are the other cast and Music is composed by Bharadwaj.

Commercial ingredients are mixed in right proportions, songs and stunts are also provided, and we also have an itme number by Jyothirmayi. Bharadwaj’s songs are pleasing to the ears.
