Kalki was a very different character. She is not the usual heroine.. running around the trees singing duets.. She had fire in her. She was a great character..
Then about Ammaiyappa muthaliyar, A typical down to earth father character... who expects the son to shoulder the family pressure along with him.. Decides to throw away the relationship.. But in the end, gives up for grandson. Might be u dont find the character great. But in my POV, its an unforgettabe character. Actually i didnt complete my list. 5. Shakti - Devarmagan - Kamal 6. Surya - Thalapathi - Rajini 7. Sindhu - Sindhu Bhairavi - Suhaasini 8. Forgot the character name - SPB in Keladi kanmani ..... |

Dear Balaji...
If we analyse Shivaji's charectors, it will go endless. Few of them: 'Prestige" Padmanabhan - Vietnaaam Veedu 'Barristor' Rajinikanth - Gowravam 'S.P.Chowdhri - Thangapathakkam Appar Swamigal - Thiruvarutselvar 'Sikkal' Shanmuga Sundaram - Thillana Mohanambal Antony - Gnana Oli it will go like that. You mentioned about Savithri in Kaikodutha Dheivam. Nobody can do it except her. Shivaji has a good habit. If the story is heroine oriented, he dont want to dominate fully, but give chance for them to shine, by shadowing him behind. For example: Kai kodutha Dhivam - Savithri Neelavaanam - Dhevika Engirundho Vandhaal - Jayalalitha.. and so on... |

Dont ever say Rajini fares better than Kamal in looks... So, I wud like to discuss abt the actors like Prabhu, Satyaraj, Karthik, etc. Prabhu - Dharmathin thalaivan - as younger brother to Rajini, he feels guilty for his brothers death, wants to get his cousin (Suhasini) married. That was a different character for him and also for tamil movies. Satyaraj - (though nowadays his movies are not watchable ) In anna nagar 1 theru... the helpless lover character was good, The Poo vizi vaasalile shud also be mentioned As villain - Amaithi padai alwa character, Kaakki sattai "Thagadu thagadu" Karthik - Kizakku vaasal, Mouna raagam, Agni natchathiram... |

He has become another Karthik . I also love the big fight between - Prabu and Karthik in - Agni Natchathiram. At that time, MR was at his best. Usha Sankar. |

Unbelievable acting from savithri in this class movie Any takers for this forum pls ??? We can bring in all characters - Male / Female / Hero / Heroene / Character roles / Guest roles / Villain also |

good to see a thread on a slightly offbeat topic.
here are my contributions to the list (not necessarily in order of preference). note that i'm leaving out the obvious classics like 'Nayagan', 'Kattaboman' etc about whom enough and more has already been said. instead, i'd like to point out some of the other notable characters which are not quite in the same legendary league as the above, but are nevertheless part of tamil cinema folklore. so here goes: 1. Chandrababu and SV Ranga Rao in 'Sabash Meena' 2. Satyaraj as the don (i think his name was Saamraj) in 'Makkal Enpakkam' 3. Karthik in 'Agni Nakshatram' - in my opinion his most intense and forceful onscreen work to date 4. Savithri in 'Maya Bajaar' - amazing performance. 5. Ranga Rao in the same film. those two really were the life and soul of 'Maya Bajaar' ... their performances have made it the classic that it is. 6. Sivaji in 'Thiruvilayadal' - not the whole film, just the Nakkeeran episode. his fierce looks and regal bearing for that half an hour were the highlights of that movie. simply mindblowing. 7. Satyaraj in 'Amaidhippadai', especially the role of the corrupt politician. probably the most effortless acting performance you'll ever see. 8. Thengai Srinivasan in 'Thillu Mullu'. a classic. 9. Thengai again in 'Kaasedhan Kadavuladaa'. if this guy had done just these two films and nothing else, he would still be counted among tamil filmdom's all-time greats. 10. Rajnikanth in 'Mullum Malarum'. definitely one of his greatest acting performances. right up there with 'Dalapathi'. more later ... |

It’s been mentioned already. Abhirami in Virumaandi. Her character showed great strength.
I know she’s appeared in many films in small to medium roles playing matrons and grandmothers, but SN Lakshmi has played some memorable roles. Her Kupputhayi in Virumaandi was great. I especially liked her as Kamal’s mum-in-law in Mahanathi. She was the anchor in the family, and gave Kamal the right advice at the right times. I liked the way she kept her pride even when her financial situation and health deteriorated. PS: I have to agree with PR on Simran’s role in Kannathil M. Compared to her other glamour roles, she took on this role of a mother really well. |
