Andavare,
A great attempt by you to start a fight club here I think such 'Top 10' lists are very relative&like Mohan lal everyone should start with a disclaimer that it's based on the films that they have seen. Also their own films should not be included. Personally if asked to do a list of Top 10 Indian movies,I wouldn't be able to do it as there are so many Tamil,Kannada, malayalam&Hindi movies I have liked. I am looking forward to such a list by Kamal&Mani |

in fact, govind nihalani who directed the original 'Drohkaal' went on record to say that he was happy with the way his film had been remade. also, i think he even went to the extent of saying that the remake was better than the original. not too sure if he actually said this - AA or Cinefan might be able to clarify. |

you probably feel that way bcos of the climax. the 'Drohkaal' climax was a lot better and more realistic. really beats me why they changed it in the tamil version. in fact, having seen 'Drohkaal' a couple of times before 'Kurudhippunal' was made, i must admit being a wee bit disappointed about the KP ending turning out the way it did.
agree. 'Kurudhippunal' was undoubtedly a better film from a purely technical standpoint. but even otherwise, it was one of those 'intelligently' remade films that kamal seems to be so good at making. in fact, govind nihalani who directed the original 'Drohkaal' went on record to say that he was happy with the way his film had been remade. also, i think he even went to the extent of saying that the remake was better than the original. not too sure if he actually said this - AA or Cinefan might be able to clarify. |

the differences between 'Drohkaal' and 'Kurudhippunal' start at the point where both the protagonists (om puri & naseeruddin shah in the hindi version) are caught and threatened by the head of the terrorist gang. in 'Drohkaal', om puri actually reveals to the gang the fact that naseeruddin s is the head of the infiltration operation, leading to the death of naseer's character. effectively, it is projected as a last-minute measure taken by a desperate officer, who, on realizing that he is cornered, decides to put himself and his family before his duty. 'Kurudhippunal' on the other hand had an altered climax where kamal's character lays down his life to ensure that the confidentiality of the operation is protected. i personally found the ending better and more realistically portrayed in the hindi version - it is a stark reminder of the fact that policemen, for all their daredevilry and prowess in the line of duty, are nevertheless susceptible to the same fallacies and weaknesses that affect normal human beings like us. |
