This may come a bit late - an year later, in fact - but I think this film deserves it. Happened to see it last night. A thoroughly impressive and different Tamil movie. Deserves a lot more appreciation for the unique treatment of characters and genuinely interesting situations. Besides the understandably impressive villain character player by Prithviraj, Gopika's role and character deserve special mention. When was the last time you saw a normal, middle class, B-town girl behaving herself in movies? She's not afraid to speak out against her brother. Nor is she worried about premarital you-know-what (PMK & Thirumavalavan may be listening!)...and all this portrayed so naturally and aesthetically by debutant KV Anand. She doesnt shy from calling her hubby for a 'kulfi' session and pranks on it too at the end!
That the film had an educated look to it might have been its undoing. Did this film do well? Its a pity if it had not! Good remake candidate in other languages given the universal nature of plot.
One glaring thing I noticed...this film was also partly about the evils of Kandhuvatti. And guess who's name appears first in the opening credits? Madurai Anbu...the man who supposedly drove producer GV to suicide!!!
Here's my take on the movie. An extra 100 words considering this film deserves it.
