just to give confidence for producers/directors to make good movies, i have decided to boycott sivakasi and maaja. ofcourse if the review are good, i will go, but i dont think sivakasi will kindle any interest even to my toe nail. maaja may have some good comedy in it, based on the original malayalam movie. i will wait for thavamai thavamirundhu.

I doubt that TT will kick Sivakasi out of the theater because sadly the taste of the tamil audience has deterierated drastically in the past decade.
I'm a huge fan of Cheran's movies, and I'm sure that it will be a blockbuster just like Autograph was.

Whats really funny is that NI people have seen more blood bath, more violence than SI people, but when it comes to movies, they run around trees and we run around guns! I guess movie is not even close to reality. When it meets reality, more good movies will come.

Cheran’s Thavamai Thavamirundhu will be a hallmark film
November 1, 2005
Behindwoods.com
Cheran is known to be a sensitive film maker. His handling of emotional complexities of human beings with the tenderness of hindsight gives his films a nostalgic effect. But, his films are definitely not tear jerkers. His Pandavar bhoomi and Autograph are tales of finding the balance in a world going topsy turvy due to circumstances beyond the control of ordinary mortals. His next film, Thavamai thavamirundhu, is a story of a father and his son and the emotional juggernaut that is characteristic of this relationship has been portrayed well. Cheran has taken a long time to make the movie and he has said that it took him almost six months to finalize the screenplay. He took more than three months to decide on the technical aspects. For example, he has spent nearly Rs. 25 lakhs on bringing latest updating technologies in filming the movie. He has used a high definition camera in shooting the film. Rajkiran who did wonderfully in Pandavar Bhoomi has come up again with a dignified performance. This underutilized actor will surely have a good second innings we hope.

Cheran’s Thavamaai to be a hallmark
tamil.galatta.com
Cheran, the well known sensitive film-maker, has come out with his new project titled Thavamaai Thavamirundhu after quite a long time. The way he handles human emotions gives his films a nostalgic effect. His Pandavar Bhoomi and Autograph were films that helped find a balance between emotions in a world that is nearly ruled by emotions. Cheran has put in a lot of effort towards this film. He took six months to finalise the screenplay and three months to decide the technical aspects. Rajkiran has come up with another dignified performance. Galatta.com hopes they find success in this round too!

'Thavamai Thavamirundhu' - some tidbits
- 05.11.2005
Cinesouth.com
Those who have seen it are full of praise. Those who have not seen it are dying to see it.Cheran is however, waiting patiently for the Sivakasi fireworks and uproarious Majaa to die down.
Once he had made his decision to make the film, Cheran did something no one else has done. He narrated the film scene by scene to his assistants, the cameraman and his assistants. For one month, the scenes were discussed till everyone identified with the film. "After discussing together, we deleted the unwanted portions and added the necessary elements. That's how the final script evolved." The patient Cheran is impressed by Raj Kiran. "I said he has to be with me for 3 months. He stayed on for 10 months till the film was over. The character of Muthiah, the father of Ramalingam (Cheran's name in the film), portrayed by him is something that every father can identify with."
Like 'Autograph,' 'Thavamai Thavamirundhu' is in the classical mould. It spans a number of years. "As time lapses, the characters also look different. The heroine Padmapriya also looks different as time goes by," says Cheran who feels that Raj Kiran's character is the central focus of the film.
Since the decision was made to shoot the film in digital technique, they had to make themselves familiar with the latest in digital technology and joined classes in Digital Updating.
"We shot several times to understand the digital output. Every time we were not satisfied, we tried several times till we were finally convinced, before we started shooting for the actual film. This pre-shooting cost alone ran to about 25 lakhs."
After so much hard work, Cheran does not cling to the film as exclusively his work. "This is a joint effort. 210 eyes, 210 legs, 210 hands worked to make this film happen."
Those with big hearts will definitely create big works of art.
Cheran's plus point is his large heart!

Cheran apologises!
By Moviebuzz
Saturday, 05 November , 2005, 13:06
Cheran has done the right thing by apologising to his fans, well wishers and trade for not being able to release Thavamai Thavamirunthai for Diwali.
He has issued ads in all leading newspapers saying- “Due to certain unforeseen circumstances my film Thavamai Thavamirunthai could not make it to the theatres. The legal complications are being sorted out and we are sure to win the battle. The rains in Tamilnadu have created havoc to people all over the state and now after the rains, we will come out with the film and then celebrate Diwali!”
In a way Cheran’s new release date (Nov 18) is a far better one as he will get a solo release which will ensure a better opening for the film. Meanwhile Cheran is trying to sort out the legal issues. Adds Cheran: “I am confident that Thavamai Thavamirunthai will be a treat for my audience and I will not let them down”.

Thavamai thavamirundhu will create cinema history
November 9, 2005
Behindwoods.com
Cheran is giving the finishing touches to his next film, Thavamai thavamirundhu. The film will also mark a special achievement in Indian cinema by being the third longest movie ever made. It will run for 3 hours and 40 minutes. Mera Naam Joker, made by the legendary Raj Kapoor holds the first position as the longest movie in Indian film history. It is followed by the Aamir Khan film, Lagaan. The cute film on an intrepid band of villagers who take on the might of the British empire, was India’s entry to the Oscars that year. It reached the final but lost out.

I concede.

Infact thankar and cheran are the rare kinds who can be watched DESPITE OF lack of stardom in their movies. THAT REALLY CALLS FOR GUTS on their part and confidence that they can leave behind their impression. Its a shame that in this nonsensical world where creativity is hardly appreciated, such talents at times goes unnnoticed.
In his movie he created/creates an impact akin to READING A STORY and thats not easy.

Cheran’s new heroine will make a mark in Tamil cinema
November 11, 2005
Behindwoods.com
Cheran is credited with bringing out the innate talent in actresses. He does not believe in using glamour or sex in his portrayal of women. No one can forget Mallika, Gopika and Sneha in Autograph. For his latest film, Thavamai thavamirundhu, he has brought in a new girl called Padmapriya. She is an MBA and used to work as a risk analyst with GE Capital. She is a trained dancer and avid theatre artiste. Although she has many Malayalam films to her credit, she says that acting in her mother tongue gives her the most satisfaction. She is thankful to Cheran for giving her this opportunity in Thavamai. She has a thinking head on her shoulders and says that she would give preference only to the script and the director. As long as one has confidence in the director, the performance will be fine. Her next film is Pattiyal opposite Arya, directed by Vishnuvardhan

autograph is a classic in tamil cinema industry.3loves?he loved one girl during his school days.but that was just an infactuation.not love, just an affection.he loved gopika, but that love was unsuccessful.he didnt love sneha.she helped him, thats all.
reagrding ur question of a gal loving 3 persons and marrying a 4th,if the story is told well,i think the audience will accept it.
as far as i am concerned cheran is one of the best directors in tamil cinema at present.all his films come with msgs.
nilavu,
regarding versatility,
i dont think a director needs 2 b versatile 2 b called gr8.look at dharani's movies.they all ahve the same style of story telling.but ppl like that.look at bala's movies.they all have similar treatment.even in kb movies,u will c kb in most of his characters.cheran is making good movies and i think he has done enough to b qualified a s a good director.

Biodata of Cheran's heroine
- 12.11.2005
Cinesouth.com
Wonder of wonders…! Padmapriya hails from Tamilnadu. That too from the barren North Arcot district. When we are wondering that such a land has yielded a beautiful young sprout, we get to know that she has given 300 dance performances and participated in English stage plays too. With so much information coming with such a force, we had to ask for a short 'time out'.
Padmapriya is not a conservative traditional type. Being an MBA, she was clearing Rs.75, 000/- salary per month as a Risk Consultant at G.E. Her quest for art made her move to movies.
"The person who introduced me to movies is 'Jeyam' music director Arthi Patnaik," says Padmapriya with overflowing gratitude. Padmapriya loves Cheran. "Beyond 'Autograph' I immensely like his 'Porkalam' and 'Bharathi Kannamma.' I would very much like to work for him if he takes a commercial film." Emotion oozes out of this lass from North Arcot.
Her last question left us with no answers. "How come, fans here appreciate films by Akira Kurasova and at the same time like commercial movies?"
That is like the climate in Tamilnadu. The sun scorches the next day after torrential rains!

Cheran eyes National award with Thavamai thavamirundhu
November 15, 2005
Behindwoods.com
Cheran is a sensitive director whose films are shorn of the usual sex and violence ingredients. He has an eye for the undercurrent of emotions in human relationships and their myriad manifestations. Whether in Porkalam or Pandavar Boomi, the story line was simple but the delineation in terms of characterization was wonderful.
His nostalgic trip in Autograph proved that romance could be projected without the song and dance routine. His treatment of the friendship between a man and a woman was genuine and contemporary. His next film, Thavamai thavamirundhu will be releasing shortly. It is again a sentimental journey through the father-son bond. Cheran is confident that the National award that he narrowly missed for Autograph will be his for this film.

Ban on Cheran's film song!
- 17.11.2005
Cinesouth.com
Cheran would not have dreamed that his thavam/penance would be so testing. Problem after another is lengthening the shooting schedule like a never ending enquiry commission and delaying the release of the film. The source of the latest problem is Pondicherry.
'Thavamaai Thavamirundhu' was originally supposed to be produced by Krishnakanth of Indian Theatres. Manmadhan's arrow brought him down and he is yet to recover, so Cheran decided to produce the film himself. When the film was over and talk was on about the price for the different areas, it came to be known that even before the film was started, Krishnakanth had already settled the price and taken money for certain areas.
This settlement is still not over, and now there's a stay order. It has been sent by Prof. K A Gunasekaran of the drama dept of Pondicherry University. He has acted in 'Azhagi' and Nasser's 'Devathai.' It is a known fact that he was taken to court by Ilayaraja for comments made on him in his book.
K A Gunasekaran has released many cassettes and 20 years back, he has released a song 'Ai, aakaatti…' His grouse is, this is featured in Cheran's 'Thavamaai Thavamirundhu' without his permission. Looks like the man from Pondicherry is unaware, that whole films are lifted and being remade in Kollywood. He filed a case in his anger and the Chennai civil court has stayed the use of the song in the film.
Panchayat, court, case....if we are not careful, they will even propose bans on talented artistes!

Case against Cheran’s Thavamai Thavamirundhu --release postponed
November 18, 2005
Behindwoods.com
One of the versatile directors in the industry is returning back with a big bang after the colossal success of the movie Autograph. The movie was expected for Diwali and the release was delayed. A professor of Pondicherry Arts College Mr.A.Gunasekaran has filed a case against the movie stating that one of the tunes in the movie was his tune and it has been used in the movie without getting the rights from him. The case was brought before the judge Subramanian and he has ordered that the song should not be included in the movie till November 30, until the next hearing. And so the release of the movie is postponed.

One more problem
IndiaGlitz [Friday, November 18, 2005]
Director-actor Cheran's troubles are far from over. After several problems involving the completion of his film Thavamai Thavamirindhu, he was confident of releasing the movie for Deepavali. But it had to be postponed for some reason.
Meanwhile, it has witnessed yet another trouble with a professor Gunasekaran of the drama department of Pondicherry University filing a petition to stay a song Aakkatti from the movie set to tunes by Sabesh-Murali.
He has claimed that it was originally his work and was being used without his permission in Thavamai Thavamirundhu.
He had filed a case in a Chennai civil court. Following which, the court stayed the song on Tuesday.
Then there are also some issues over editing the film. Allegations are that he had used some ‘outside help’ to get the film edited.

Cheran against all odds!
By Moviebuzz
Sunday, 27 November , 2005, 17:28
Cheran is keeping his fingers crossed as he has announced that Thavamai Thavamirunthai will now release on December 1. However, the big question asked by the trade is whether the film will make it to the theatres?
There are far too many financial issues involved with the film. The original producer had sold some areas, which he did not reveal at the time of selling the film to a new producer. And the new producer sold it to a different set of distributors and people who have brought it earlier are claming that they have not been compensated! Meanwhile Cheran has been desperately trying to settle the vexing financial issues that seem to be unending!
Thavamai Thavamirunthai is a lengthy film of 3 hours and 42 minutes with two intervals. While a normal Tamil film running time is not more than 2 hours and 30 minutes, the trade feels that the theatres will have to cut one show from the regular four shows, which again means loss of revenue.
Cheran has to sort out all these issues in the next two days if the film has to release on December 1.

TT` delayed!
By Moviebuzz
Tuesday, 29 November , 2005, 11:37
Cheran’s ambitious Thavamai Thavamirunthai has been delayed and it is doubtful whether the film will grace the theatres this year! Some of the theatres booked for screening the film, have now switched over to Prakash Raj’s romantic entertainer Kanda Naal Muthal releasing this week.
In fact, theatres have a wide variety of films from which they can pick as there are three films due this week. They are Arjun’s Aanai, Hamsavardhan’s Mandiram, and on December 9 there are three more- Surya’s Aaru, Satyaraj’s Vetrivel Sakthivel and Vishaal’s Sandakozhi.
Meanwhile, sources close to Cheran say that the final judgment on the legal issues concerning Thavamai Thamamirunthai is likely to come up in court on November 30, Wednesday. And if the judgment is favourable to Cheran & Co the film can still be released by Dec 2 as the prints are ready.
But the theatres are not taking a chance, and have started looking for alternatives.

Cheran confirms `TT`
By Moviebuzz
Thursday, 01 December , 2005, 11:09
Finally Cheran’s ambitious film Thavamai Thavamirunthai is releasing on Sarturday (Dec 3). Cheran seems to have sorted out all legal issues and financial commitments regarding the film.
Yesterday (Wednesday) all the distributors have come to an agreement of sorts with the producers, which will enable Cheran to release the film worldwide. All overseas prints are likely to leave lab today morning.
Says Cheran: “I am happy and relieved that everything has been settled amicably and the audience will be able to see my film from 3rd”. Meanwhile under pressure from distributors, Cheran has trimmed the lengthy 20 reel film and now the running time is 3 hours and 11 minutes!

Cheran has kept the flag of uncompromised cinema flying and is one of the handful of directors, whose calling card remain his artistry over the medium. Once again its time to rejoice as his latest Thavamai Thavamirundhu is brilliant and appeals as much to the mind as the heart.
It is another intimately scaled bio-pic, a brave attempt at good cinema. All the drama in the film unfolds from human emotions. Cheran has the guts to move away from the easy comfort of regular Tamil cinema formula and come out with something different. And the actor-director is able to extract top-class performance from all the artists like Raj Kiran, Saranya, Padmapriya and even a rank newcomer like Senthil and Meena.
The sets, location, colour grading, make-up- everything about the production is in perfect sync with the story narration. All this is possible as the writer-director-actor chooses to talk about a world and people whom he knows about first hand. His characters have the look and feel of the Tamil village milieu; the local traditions are all poignantly etched out.
Once again Cheran goes down the memory lane and tries to whip up nostalgia about childhood, parental care and love, coming of age, first love, hardships of life and the determination to come up in life and of course going back to your roots. Though he reworks the Autograph magic with some glitches and hiccups, Cheran does succeed to a very large extent in narrating a story that has some strong message for the parents and children.
The story is all about Muthiah (Raj Kiran) his wife Sarada (Saranya) and their two sons Ramanathan (Senthil) and Ramalingam (Cheran) living in a remote village near Sivaganga in Madurai district. Muthiah owns a printing press in town and though uneducated, his aim in life is to give the best education possible for his sons. He works hard, takes loans, and pledges his belongings to see his dreams come true. Ramanthan joins polytechnic college and Ramalingam at an engineering college.
But Muthiah’s dreams turn sour after Ramanathan gets married to Latha (Meena) who is unable to adjust with the family. Ramalingam too falls in love with Vasanthi (Padmapriya) at college and circumstances forces him to elope with her to Chennai. The rest of the film is how the aged parents try to come to terms with their lonely existence. But Ramalingam comes back to the village after he realizes his mistakes, gets a job, takes them to the city and gives them a good time in the winter of their life!
It is Raj Kiran who dominates the show and his powerful performance is the hallmark of this enterprise. Upright and unbreakable, he presides over the film like a torch whose burning is invisible to other characters but to the viewer. Saranya as Sarada is a life time role for the gifted actress. Cheran carries his role as Ramalingam with consummate ease and he is in terrific form. His character remains etched in your memory even after the film is over. Padmapriya has made an outstanding debut in Tamil while ‘Radio Mirchi’ RJ Senthil and Meena make their presence felt.
Technically, TT has superb camerawork by M.S.Prabhu and Anil Penrickar’s make-up for Raj Kiran and Saranya is first class. The seamlessly creative background score of Sabesh Murali and the melody “Unnai Saranandathen…” written by Thenmozhi is tenderness personified. All songs come in the background which creates the perfect mood for the narrative. On the down side, the film at 3 hours 20 minutes is a little too long and needs some trimming in the second half.
To sum up, it is the kind of cinema that you’d like to watch with your parents, family and don’t forget to carry your handkerchief.
Verdict: Very Good

Acc to me he is just unfit to cast in any roles. Absolutely no facial expressions.
A right person(director) in a wrong place (hero).
Current scenario is worst. Every director wants to become the hero. I really appreciate KB, Mani' sir who has just done their job satisfactorily. Even Rajiv menon who refused Roja' AS's role. KH & RK had said several times if KB would have acted none of us would be in the market.

Length becomes an issue!
By Moviebuzz
Tuesday, 06 December , 2005, 16:21
Cheran’s Thavamai Thavamirunthu (TT) has run into problem with theatres mainly in NSC area complaining that they find it to be too lengthy! TT is 3 hours 22 minutes and they requested Cheran to trim the film in the second half to make it crisp, which the director has plainly refused.
But what made them fret and fume is that, Cheran has sent a letter to all theatres screening TT that legal action will be taken if any of them tries to trim the film without his consent! Cheran points out that by unauthorised cutting of scenes; the theatres will be damaging the product and causing great harm to his reputation as a director of good cinema.
And the powerful theatre lobby cannot touch the film as the producer of TT is close to PMK, whose stronghold is NSC area. The exhibitors point out that due to the length of the film, it is difficult for them to do four shows a day but Cheran says that TT has been made with a lot of passion and care theatres should encourage good cinema and not see everything in monetary terms.

Cheran plans it all
IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, December 06, 2005]
Reports in Kollywood suggest that Cheran's next titled Pokkisham to be produced by Panchu Arunachalam has been shelved.
And the actor-director has taken up Aadum Koothu to be directed by noted Malayalam director T V Chandran.
However sources close to Cheran denied the rumors. They maintain that Pokkisham will hit the floors very soon.
Since the number of days that Cheran is required to work for Aadum Koothu is very less, he would be completing the film and after which Pokkisham would commence.
Meanwhile, the actor-director has expressed his happiness at the way his Thavamai Thavamirundhu has opened at the box office.
Though the movie is very lengthy, audience get deeply engrossed and appreciate the work, Cheran has said.

Cheran trims `TT`
By Moviebuzz
Thursday, 08 December , 2005, 20:10
Director Cheran has finally succumbed to the pressure from theatres to trim his Thavamai Thavamirunthu by 12 minutes! The exhibitors have heaved a sigh of relief.
Most of scenes deleted from the film are in the second half after Cheran and Padmapriya come to Chennai. Even after cutting small bits, some people in the trade are not very happy as the film is still at 3 hours and 10 minutes which is badly affecting the noon and night shows.

Cheran on cloud nine
IndiaGlitz [Friday, December 09, 2005]
Director Cheran is a happy and relieved man. Against several odds, he managed to have his Thavamai Thavamirundhu released last week. He had made good use of the entertainment medium to convey the human emotions in the movie, which instantly appealed to the masses.
Cheran's growing stature as a director is the best thing that could have happened to the industry.
From the time he made Bharathy Kannama, there has been no looking back. The flops came along the way but no way it dampened his spirits.
Autograph was considered a milestone in his career. Cheran had to live up to the expectations and the pressure has only made him do one better in Thavamai Thavamirundhu.
He has embarked on a journey to explore the minds of a caring father and a doting mother.
The actor-director has extracted the best out from Raj Kiran, Saranya and Padmapriya.
The movie which runs for over three hours was released last week with a total of 97 prints.
Thanks to the unprecedented support from the masses and good reviews, it looks likely that it would have more prints added.
Buzz is that a race is already on to procure the remake rights in Telugu. Meanwhile, Cheran has trimmed a few scenes from the movie following request from the theatre-owners. A few scenes from the second half have been deleted. The film now runs over three hours and ten minutes.

"I made`TT`with lot of passion": Cheran
By Moviebuzz
Cheran is a happy man. He looks satisfied and maintains his cool , confident looks but cannot hide his smile as he speaks to Moviebuzz about his dream called Thavamai Thavamirunthu and its box-office success. Excerpts…
Are you relaxed after the release of TT?
Yes, I am happy after the film finally made it to the theatres. And when I see people flocking to watch the film, and enjoying it I am truly satisfied. The reaction from audience who has seen it in Sathyam Cinemas in Chennai and a small theatre in Theni is the same. My film has a universal appeal of family relationships and our Tamil culture. I think TT is my best film and I have to thank my unit for this success.
A section of the audience feel that there are not much commercial elements…
I think TT has worked well with my target audience. However I agree that it is not a commercial film like Autograph, which even had a dream song. It was intentional to make TT as realistic as possible and tell me- which lovers sing songs and run around trees in colleges? It is a subtle film which can be shown to an international audience.
Don’t you think that TT was a bit lengthy for the audience?
If people can watch a one-day cricket match patiently without missing a single ball for nearly 8 hours why not my film? It is only 3 hours and 22 minutes!
Will you allow theatres to trim the film?
As a creative person, I will not allow anyone to cut a single frame of my film. My film has to retain this length, if it has to be enjoyed. I made the film with lot of pain, passion and care and would love the audience to see it at its present running time. Do you know that the initial length was 4 hours 25 minutes which was edited to the present length? (Laughs).
Was it deliberate that you played the hero role in TT?
Raj Kiran is the hero of TT. I know that I am a limited actor but I played the character more out of convenience as I will have to look for another actor’s time and date. Please note I am more a creative director than an actor.
How has your target audience accepted TT ?
Actor Sivakumar, whom I respect a lot told me that it is for the first time that a father-son bonding has been shown on-screen. Raj Kiran’s performance deserves a National Award and all my artists did well. Padmapriya is an actress of substance and Senthil, Meena including everyone has been responsible for TT’s success. The high definition camera of M.S.Prabhu who was virtually my co-director was superb along with GK’s art work.
What was the budget of TT and will it be a profitable venture?
The film went over budget as it took nearly 145 days of shoot in Karaikudi, Madurai and Chennai. A crew of 112 people worked on it and I had made the film on first copy basis at Rs 4 Crore, and ended up spending another Rs 50Lakhs from my pocket! But I have no qualms, as it shows on screen. The producer will make a small profit from the sales and as the film was sold at reasonable rate distributors too stands to make a profit.

I thought that it would be just a tear-jerker, but it was awesome. It has all the elements for a commercial movie, but its not. Fantastic acting by Rajkiran. He showed a glimpse of that in nandha, but this one is his masterpiece.
Cheran also chips in with a better performance than autograph. The new girl is cute too. She has got an awesome smile. On the downside, eventhough the movie is quite entertaining and gripping, sure its very long.. could have trimmed a few scenes.
Overall an amazing movie watching experience

hey i watched Thavamai Thavamirundhu yesterday. Let me discuss my views on the movie. I feel the main negative point is too much of expectation.
Story: This is not an imaginary story. This is life. may be ours or our friends/neighbours or relatives. This is the first movie I believe that shows very clearly about a fathers dreams and his struggle to bring up his children. I feel like seeing my own dad.
Rajkiran: Very good selection. He fits the character. Right from the beginning till end, he is the hero. Many scenes was really gooood. Congrats.
Cheran: Lot of new faces in the field longing for good story, he can give this offer to one of them. adhu ellam kidayadhu naan than nadippennu adam pidikkiraru. romantica paartha kooda alugura madhiriye theriyudhu. solla marandha kadhai, autograph mudinju idhula.
ah oohnna aluguraru.sariyana alumoonji hero.
Padmapriya: good face. good acting. paadhi neram padathula pregnanta irukkira madhiriye theriyudhu.
Saranya: Typical village mother. good performance.
BGM: Sabesh murali.most of the time no music. may be this is the main reason for audience to feel like art movie i dunno. paadhi neram backgroundla ilaiyaraja songs. nalladha oru music vandha kooda enge suttaronnu thonudhu. but not bad nalla than irundhadhu irundhalum indha madhiri padathula ellam BGM than uyire ilaiyarajavai pottu irundha kalakki irupparu . yen cheran ilaiyaraja pakkam poga mattengraru. adhigama selavu aagumnna. illai en kadhai mela nambikkai irukku raja thevai illaingra ninaippa. illai desiya geetham songs sariya pogalaindra veruppa.
then this movie is mainly to show the feelings, pain, struggle, dream of parents. padikkira vayasula pillai pirandhu oorai vittu odi poi selfisha they'll start their life least bothered about parents and the debts.
in such type of situation, they showed the difficulties the hero and the heroine face. but interviewkku poren vara oru vaaram aagumnnu pona paiyen kaanomnna parents evlo thavichu povaangannu kaatalai. yendha parentsavadhu interviewkku pona paiyen kalyanam panni settle aayittannu ninaikka thonuma veliya ponavanukku enna aacho kaasu illama thirumbi vara kashtapadurana accident yedhuvum aachanna 1008 kavalai varuthum. they shud have shown their pain
same with the girl side. ordinary family. gramathu aalunga. ponnai BE padikka anuppuranga. padikkira ponnu thideerrnnu kaanama pona how they'll suffer. evlo perukku answer pannanum.
since this movie is dedicated for parents, cheran should have concentrated those area instead of showing the lover's difficulties. andha scenes ellam "Kaadhaloda" remake madhiri irukku.
konjam thevai illadha scenes ellam editing panni irukkalam . for example his brother going for second show movie.
padathukku periya plus point Rajkiran. Ilaiyaraja voicela ivarukku oru pattu illaiyennu manasu yengudhu.

Accolades from unexpected quarters
IndiaGlitz [Sunday, December 11, 2005]
Cheran's Thavamai Thavamirundhu (TT) has won the admiration of not just the movie-buffs all over the State but also PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss.
Known for taking for his antagonism against filmdom, Ramadoss has however heaped rich praises on Cheran for his creative work in TT.
He said, 'it is a movie which deserves special appreciation. An emotional bondage between a father and a son has been narrated well.'
Going further, Ramadoss said, 'it was director Bharathiraja who brought a renaissance in Tamil filmdom about three decades ago. Now cheran has taken the mantle'.
Others in the industry should learn lessons from Cheran, he added.

i dont think he is adamant on playing hero roles.actually,he approached a lot of heros with autograph but none was willing 2 act in it.so he acted in it.i read somewhere that he wasnt interested in playing the lead role in solla marantha kathai and it was due to the compulsion of thangar tha t he acted.may be now he is feeling that he need not listen to other heros' demands if he himself plays the lead role

The kind of scripts he comes up with suit him more than any leading hero in the market today....I think movies like TT and Autograph would tarnish any leading hero's image to a great extent !!
Moreover he's built his own image with these movies...Ppl now expect realistic, classy movies from Cheran more than from anybody else...So that's good for him !!

Cheran’s Thavamai thavamirundhu has a good opening
December 13, 2005
Behindwoods.com
Cheran’s Thavamai thavamirundhu was released recently and the film is said to be having a good opening. He is very happy about the turnout for the film.
But he is also reportedly upset about some information that in some theatres, some scenes were cut out in order to shorten the film. Cheran has written to all the theatre owners requesting them to screen the full film and warned of dire consequences if they fail to do so.

Cheran's mother sentiment
- 19.12.2005
Cinesouth.com
The film is full of father sentiment, but it's the mother sentiment that helped him out of a troublesome situation!
There are some who cannot sleep if they do not file a case or two against films currently running. 'Thavamaai Thavamirundhu' is running full house. This seems to be bothering the teachers of the Govt school in Nellai and they have gone to court.
In the more than three hour film, the scene figures for hardly a minute in the film. One can hardly call it a scene, it's actually just a dialogue.
"Do they teach lessons properly in govt schools? That's why I have put my children in convent." To show that Raj Kiran slogs like crazy to put his children through a convent education, Cheran has put in this piece. There should be a reason why a poor man like Raj Kiran should want to put his kids through an expensive education, is it not? This dialogue lends credence to the story line, hence its inclusion and the very same is the cause of the court case.
The teachers of Nellai's Sengottai govt school argue that this is a slur on their reputation. Cheran has responded saying, "I am myself a product of a govt school. My mother was also a govt school teacher. If I had meant to offend by that dialogue, that would have meant offending my mother too."
Hearing the mother sentiment, the group kept silent. After all, a mother is someone precious!

saw the movie finally last sunday - still have to come out of the movie - its definitely a better movie than autograph (which slowed down the second sneha entered the screen) - great acting by rajkiran . BGM could have been better to increase the mood but not bad either. Worth watching with family. Definite national award winner.

Cheran has unnecessarily projected his bias against state education in his film
Dhavamai Dhavamirundhu.
Raj Kiran asserts in a scene that government-run schools are not providing good education to their wards. There is absolutely no evidence whatsoever to prove the superiority of CBSE over state curriculums.
How many of you are even aware that ITI is the normal route to career growth while varsity degrees are only secondary in relevance? But nowadays qualifications are given more weight than skills in the Third World.

Cheran
dont conclude anything here. This is the ignorance of an uneducated father. if the kids studied in govt schools, they would have lived better life and wouldn't have gone thru this trouble.
Surya
I agree. This is an unbelievable movie. I watched second time today to observe more and found few mistakes and many wonders. Thru out the movie they played IR songs in the bgm to kinda indicate that every radio station had IR song during 80s, but when his brother get married and she comes to the house they play chinna chinna aasai - may be it is 92 by then... not sure
I didnt find BGM particularly impressive. IR could have added real touch to the movie, but at the same time, the movie would have been heavier.
The best I liked is the way he portrayed his past memories (in color) vs current happenings (in B&W). Though this is contradictory in "movie" sense, it is just a wonder - because the life was more colorful in the past than now. What a find in this movie.
This movie will win many awards. Hope Cheran continue in making quality movies.

To make it a perfect movie, the best way for the producer is to kick cheran out of the film from both actor & director. He just cant handle it properly. Everytime I am amazed how is he able to pick such sensitive issues but when it comes to screenplay & direction he misses a big oppurtunity.
This movie would have turn "DUD" w/o Rajkiran & Saranya. If it would have been anyother director, they might have made it really worth. I am not just talking about the commercial part alone. It lacks the soul.
"Bhaghban" in Hindi has got everything in it. Still, I would recommend everyone to watch this movie with their parents/whole family.

Cheran is good in selecting subject and handling artiste...
but he trying to be sensitive through out the film!
he must select the storyline and then if the story needs sentiment he must apply it!
sentiment-a irukkanumne kadhai panna koodadhu!....thats why i liked "azhagi" more than "autograph".......romba nenja nakkitaru cheran!
but he is talented for sure!....In TT he handled rajkiran perfectly!
and he must use ilayaraja for his scrtipts....i hated "gnabagam varuthey"..in autograph....oolaiyidura maadhiri oru paatu!..ilayaraja would have done a great job!...thavamai thavamirundhu also doesnt have good music!..the film is not noticed greatly for this reason!
atleast cheran must use vidhyasagar if not ilayaraja!.....

I ve not seen BHAGBAN, though heard A LOT about its realistic and finer dialogues. Definitely AMITABH cannot be matched with anyone in scene here.
I ve not seen TT either.
BUT SCALE,
There CAN be DADS, MOMS OR PEOPLE, who are more sober, philosophical(not innocent, there is a diff) who feels THERE ARE BETTER THINGS than to be HARSH with ppl around?!
Its not an absolute impossibility TO FIND CHARACTERS like that.
Like what u said ITS AN INSPIRATION MAY BE. So he did not wanna give the same punching climax, but a SUBTLER one?

1. Pls watch baghban at any cost. If possible, today itself (rent a vcd/dvd). I am not comparing Amitabh or Hema malini here. The whole characters were crafted perfectly (esp paresh rawal,sons,d-i-l,finally salman).
2. Is father character Sober & philosophical?

The below two instances are contradictory. Dont tell me that he has become old at the second instance. My ? is why he couldnt ask the same to elder son
(YENNADA KORA VACHEN?)
Paiyan notoriousa suthurannu therinja vodane (poruppoda, (kaadhum kaadhum vacha mathiri) kalyanam panni vachavaru ivvalavu innocenta irupparunnu nenachi kooda paarkalai.

3. Yes agreed. Cheran attempts to give a different climax but fails terribly. It shows he has really struggled to frame a clear, realistic climax at the end.
It happens to many when you adopt an inspirational theme. hehehe.....

sorry to quote an old message.. just saw it.. if a low-life moron like SJS can act n direct a movie and non-actors like ravikrishna is still acting, I dont see a reason why cheran cant act.. Tell me one person who can fit in as autograph senthil.... true he is not a great actor, but he does his job. and is he not a good director?? common he is way better than many of them now..

How r u kasi? New year wishes

Its unreasonable that Cheran shud act (a director) when all others like SJS,ravikrishnaa''s are acting. What I mean is that he shud concentrate only on direction(MR,KB,BM) part than casting himself in the lead. Prasanna (Azh..theeye fame) would have done better in this role in every frame.

i wouldn't say the same about the movie. Not having liked Autograph very much, i found TT heading the same way...
Nevertheless, the good thing about Cheran is that his works are a thousand times better than the stuff
"borrowed" from the

This is what I tried to convey: Our present heroes have *heroism* built in them and nobody is ready to do a character like autograph senthil in which there was no heroism at any cost.. ajith, vijay and a few others rejected that character, I was told.. They wudnt hav fit that role as well.. Cheran did a decent job as an actor.. His direction was flawless I thought, though he is not innovative like MR/Bala etc..,
btw, hollywood garbage can is 1000 times worse than local garbage can, I think and that was preached by this famous dialogue, muthugelumbillaatha kUlI and the funny part is it came from the mouth of.....

Yeah...he said that "It's easy for one person to act in 3 different roles, but it's hard for one person to act as one person going through 3 stages of his life."
I don't agree....Rajkiran was good in TT, but I think that performance wise Vikram was better in Anniyan, which had a more demanding role..

I beg to differ with u all.
Looking at the performance of RAJKIRAN in TT, I believe he outsmarted everyone.
He truly deserves a National Award.
Vikram was good in Anniyan. I don't reject it. But it was too artificial.
compared to RJ acting, it is not that much good.
RJ carried the emotions of a father beautifully in that movie.

I too like Vikaram very much.
But comparing Rajkiran performance in TT and vikram performance in anniyan?oh My GOD ..Rajkiran's performance miles ahead .
Rajkiran's performance is one of the best in recent times ,where as Anniyan Vikarm performance is not even up to the mark compare to his skill and previous records.

What is wrong in that..What cheran said is 100% right.Btw,saying rajkiran was better than Vikram is speaking badly on vikram? I can't understand ..What he said is "After sivaji and kamal ,Rajkiran gave a fantastic performance in TT ,even better than Vikram" ..This means he treats Vikaram as a good actor to make comparision.

For all u guys,I am reproducing what cheran said in Kumudam...
--------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When you guys have so much right to write all your opnions ,Afterall this is cheran's opnion .I accept all except one line ..But I support cheran because he is fighting with all heroism crap. Hats off to his guts!

IMHO.. this year's best Actor - Actress award should go for this pair.. What a performance from these two people..
The wife of that elder son acting was also extremely good. She portrayed angry, frustration etc of a typical bad-daughter-in-law well.

Selva,
Im bickering but pls dont use the phrase "Typical daughter-in-law" with respect to the elder daughter-in-law in the movie.Agreed some individuals are like that in todays world, but its def not typical. Its like saying the elder son was typical elder son(selfish and without any feeling for his parents)

i dont want vijay 2 do autograph.dont mistake me.i saw autograph and really liked it,but i dont think the hero's role required a big star.i heard cheran approached big stars like vijay, vikram and surya 4 the role.but i feel someone like cheran who doesnt have an image is best suited 4 that role.
its too early 2 predict abt puli.i wud've loved 2 see SJS-vj combo on screen, but unfortunately that didnt materialise.u cant say whether that was a bad decision now.only when SJS makes puli will we know whether it was a bad decision or not.if u remmeber when vijay backed out of vikraman's unnai ninaithu, everyone criticized him.but the movie eventually turned out 2 b a flop.so his decision turned out 2 b right.
but i agree with wht u said abt muthalvan.had vijay acted in it,it wudve been one of the biggest hits of all time.

What an imagination? ONly RK could have justified that role well.
"தலைவா ! நாடே ஊனமா இருக்கு ! தூக்கி நிப்பாட்டு தலைவா !"
This dialogue will suit Only RK(at that time !

). Looking at the expresssion from Arjun for that dialogue, I had a wonderful
I am sure how vijay will emote on this dialogue

Friends, leave away the predictions on vijay. first ask him to sign a good movie with a good director rather than discussing on his past decisions.

i dont have any doubt that mudhalvan was written keeping rajini in mind.had he acted in it,it wudve been the biggest hit in the history of tamil cinema.but arjun acted in it and did a pretty gud job.if arjun can do that role well,i dont think vijay or vikram will have any pblms doing it.

one of the best for sure....

...so many different emotions throughout the movie...
It was more of a RIDE than just a movie ... Each and every scene made me nostalgic and relate to something or the other that me or my parents had gone through ...
Amazing screenplay ... So realistic and natural !!

It's just the other way round I thought ... Rajkiran gets him married only cos he's goin to brothals and avoid him from continuing that and getting caught up in police another time ...

It is very difficult for a dad of TN to openly talk abt this to his son. The way it was handled in the movie was perfect. That is what many would have done.

Not Really !!! After a certain age, guys become out of control ... Even the strictest Dads cant help but yield ...
Moreover Rajkiran is a very PRACTICAL man in that movie ... So that's the best way any Dad would deal with that situation ..

Joe Anna, It's cos I was jumping from one theatre to another watching movies like Aaru, Aadhi, PS, Saravana, Sanda Kozhi etc etc ... I din't have too much time to watch movies like TT ...
And also, the reviews for this movie was not as great as they were for Autograph, which also gave me a false pic abt the movie ...

the movie is very entertaining. there are only very few scenes that may make you cry. particularly the scene where the father come and visit his son in chennai. rest of the scenes wont make u cry. dont worry. its a very good movie. if you still dont have patience, wati till you have a son and see it later.

TT has lot of irritating scenes too..
Apart from RAJKIRAN and saranya, and that daughter-in-law character, none other characters are strong
Cheran's romantic scenes with Padmapriya are

esp in the scene
"Azhaga RasiKalaam Aaanaal thunpuruthakkoodathu" and her laugh
Is this what cheran meant as romance?

How can all human beings have same tast for romance. This is how cheran/the character in the movie express romance. KH express by kissing. RK express by biting a towel or his shirt color. VJ express the way dog express romance. it depends. so go with it man.

NJV.. I am not talking about depicting romance. IMHO, those scenes in TT were artificial. They were not natural. He sees her couple of times. After that, suddenly both of them are in love. Then they suddenly decide on marriage. It was not portrayed neatly. The subsequent scenes that followed that were not perfect in portraying the chemistry. Cheran failed in a great way in those scens. If u take Autograph, the chemistry b/w him and Gopika was depicted in a neat way.

I watched this movies a couple of weeks back. It was definitely a refreshing change from the typical boy meets girl type (overdone) storyline. Touching Story.
But the biggest highlight for ME was the 'Theme Song'. Madhu Balakrishnan did an EXCELLENT job. Around three minutes into the song, he does an 'Alaap'...WOW Traverses a couple of octaves, and transitions into falsetto towards the end. If you missed it the first time, do listen to it.
