Actors and actresses have many titles, but do we know exactly why we have them? :roll:

Rajini: Superstar- style, hit movies
Kamal: Universal Hero- has acted in various languages
Vijay: Ilayathalapathy/Vasool Chakravarthy-king of hearts, given to him after successful love stories
Vikram: "Chiyaan"-after the tremendous success of Sethu where his nickname was Chiyaan
Ajith: Ultimate star / Thala? -good movies I don't know where thala came from

Any other titles and origins for actors or actresses...

Well there are many actors/ actresses who don't use their real names
isn't Rajnikanth's real name Shivaji Rao? I am just suggesting this tangent but i do not know enough to state more examples...do you know anymore?

hey guys,
We are talking of origins of actors' titles. I know how the title nadiga thilakam came to be given to sivaji ganesan, It seems a fan wrote to "Pesum padam" magazine why the title cannot be given to sivaji. This title started appearing thereafter in this magazine & subzequently in his film titles & the name stuck.

Similarly if U guys know about the origins of the other titles, please post them.

Most of them have their title but i think they must give a title name for surya & madhavan for their tremendous performance in every film. I think Surya & Madhavan is better than Vikram

in drama, casting chatrapathi shivaji.

well we gurls had made our own nickname for one actor...i think his real name is Raja ...we named him loser(in the lovelorn sense) cause i think with the exception of one movie he either loves the heroine and is forgotten, has to wait for the heroine to come back, has to die or has his wife die... he acted in Karuthamma

Raja acted as the hero(?) who is cheating the heroine and her father (Rekha and Sivakumar) in "ini oru suthandhiram"..

well i don't know if disease should a be factor to determine one's fighting skills but for sure Dhanush has none of the skills that Bruce Lee had...actually when you see Bruce Lee fight your in awe...when you see Dhanush fight...you do some fighting as well...you fight to not laugh out loud what Dhanush and Simbhu need are more plausible opponents

And then there was Ramki (some of you may remember him, and some of you may wish to forget him). In an interview, he said that the press gave him the title of 'Family Hero'.

Whose family?

Not only is it uninspiring, it's totally unnecessary. Where is our Family Hero now?

Ramki was just a joke. I had to lie down after seeing some of his movies. Did he ever make it sucessful though?? Atleas for the span of a year or so?

I think that Simbhu is better than Dhanush. But Simchu also needs to work out a bit, and put on some weight before fighting. Simbhu is good in other areas. Acting, Dancing, Directing, Screenplay, Writing Dialouges, singng, etc. Unlike Aids/TB patient Dhanush.

anyone know if ramarajan (of "karakaattakaran" fame) had a title ?
not that i'm a big fan of his (that would be a crime !), but with so many titles floating around ... just felt an idle curiosity as to whether any such "pattam" was given to him ?!

a few others -
'navarasa nayagan' - kamal haasan (i think this was a title prefixed to his name in the 80s - it has since been removed and he goes with the simple and more dignified "padmashri")
'ilam nayagan' - jeeva
'puratchi kalaignar', 'captain' - vijaykanth
