MGR-Karuna relationship was just an inspiration for Iruvar. The movie was meant to be a tale of two individuals with entirely different thought processes coming together, growing together and separating because of ego, their political aspirations but still having the affection, deep down. If Mani were to make a historical movie on MGR and MuKa he could've made the title as MGR-MuKa just like Gandhi or Kamaraj or Bharathi.

I do not think that is so easy. At the max he could have made it on a single person either MGR/Muka. When you have both on board it would create oppositions from both sides depending on the side that Mani took or the side that people assumed him to have taken.

i think at the time of release & even now, people see this film as a documentary of MGR-Karuna...
it is quite obvious that most of the scenes are directly taken from their life happenings.. Mani changed some of the controversial incidents to avoid any opposition.. like Anna (Nasser) not becoming CM..
Mani tried to fit a lot of incidents.. if it is about MGR alone, it would be better.. as the film starts with MGR working as a drama artist & ends with his death.. since Mani wanted Karuna's role.. he has to show his personal life (tabu & their daughter).. & since we all know the life events of his inspiration (MGR, Karuna).. i'm disappointed for not getting to see a lot more happenings..
