Photo release will take a while. Nothing is confirmed as of now. Release date is hovering around August, likely to be on the 15th. However, it depends on a lot of factors. Some distributors (of other movies) are requesting Oscar that the release be postponed to Deepavali but Oscar is keen to release it in August. Moreover, due to the budget of 10A and Sivaji, simultaneous release was never in the question and moreover, there should be sufficient gap after Sivaji release for theater availability. |

Titanic team in Dasavatharam?
http://www.behindwoods.com/tamil-movie-news/may-07-05/31-05-07-dasavatharam.html Indisputably, Kamal Haasan’s Dasavatharam is the only movie that can compete with the hype Sivaji is creating. The movie will most probably be released in August, which is a complete two months after Sivaji hits the screens. The hype and hoopla surrounding Sivaji will slowly shift its focus to Dasavatharam as its release date nears. Dasavatharam Not just for the Kamal tag but also due to the fact that this is the first time in the history of the world cinema that an actor has donned ten different get-ups. Sources say that in some get-ups even the director and the unit finds it difficult to recognize Kamal. Such is the perfectionism of this world-class actor. Sitting in the make-up chair for six hours for a 45-minute shoot is not a mean feat. Rumormongers always come up with different takes on the movie and story. But this bit of news is no rumor, the climax of the movie is set near a beach with tsunami effect. To bring this dream sequence to life many technicians from the English blockbuster Titanic is being called in. Hiring a Hollywood team for an Indian movie is not new but getting the most sought-after Titanic team is astounding. Bringing in such reputed team will definitely lift the expectation level of the fans to feverish level. Dasavatharam, considered to be one of the highest budget movies in the Indian film history, will be released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu simultaneously. |

I'm sorry but infact i was regretting that i didn't name the thread as "Mylapore Mahatma Adigalar Dr.Kamal HaasaR's Divya Darisana Dasavatharam - Part 2". Will this be OK? If not, i suggest the following: "Golden Beach Gopuram Dr.Kamal HaasaR's Viswa Roobam Dasavatharam - Part 2" or "Neelankarai Neelagantar Dr.Kamal HaasaR's Thirai Thiruvizha Dasavatharam - Part 2" |

I agree on this. I request the thread creator to change the name. Agree that we have rights to choose titles of our own. But if People continue doing so, then there may be names of GOD or any respectable person's adai mozhi will be used by some for different actors/actress names. I request to Consider the future consequences and put a stop for this. Even if Kamal see this he will not like it. That is 1000% sure. Hope to see a change in title change soon by the thread creator itself. |

just curious - 1. has shooting been completed for 10A? is post-prod work on now?? Shooting is all but complete. One scene with a gathering in a hall was remaining. Not sure if that has been shot. PP will begin this/next week 2. Any foreign/hollywood technicians for state-of-the-art-graphics?? Foreign crew has been present right through the shooting though i am not sure what their involvement is w.r.t graphics. So far, the graphics have been done by a Chennai based firm and also by one in Mumbai 3. is there any conscious effort to reduce the complexity to a normal viewer, who is going to watch 10 roles of kamal?? i ask this cos, i still remember the confused faces in theater while watching MMKR ....it was pretty much ahead of its time... Hope so. I have the same concerns. Aandavar often overestimates his audience (though he gets angry if this is put forward and says "our audience is intelligent and don't underestimate them"). That said, this being a commercial high budget venture, i would like to believe these things would be kept in mind. There lies the greatness irrespective of success or failure- tight rope walking ![]() 4. when is the audio release??? Date not confirmed. July first week nu pesikkaraanga |

Funny you say this b/c you dismissed what I wrote on May 17th... "Read somewhere that Dasa's shooting will go on till June or July followed by 2-3 months of post production work with the aim of releasing it for this year's Diwali release. Would this be true?" Main factor for delay is b/c shooting is not complete yet - perhaps end of the month followed by an extensive post-production work (special effects) |

Quote: |
We had reported that Kamal Hassan visited the chief minister of Tamil Nadu to offer his wishes on the thespian’s competing fifty years of active political service in the state. While watching the Dasavatharam album, the CM was visibly happy and besotted by Kamal’s various getups and had expressed his confidence and trust in the actor to take the Tamil cinema to a higher level.
Kamal-cm Karunainidhi had also mentioned that he is always ready to help the actor in any possible way that he could. Making use of this opportunity, Kamal had requested that the government should permit the film industry to shoot by flying in helicopter over certain important locations in Chennai like the Nehru stadium. The chief minister has reportedly given his consent immediately. One more trivia about Dasavatharam is that a melody “Kallai mattum therindal kadavul theriyadu, kadavul mattum therindal kallai theriyadu” has been sung by Hariharan. |

Kamal seeks CM help to ‘fly high’
With the increase in all the hype and attention surrounding Rajinikanth’s forthcoming starrer Sivaji as the movie’s release date looms closer, it seems like Kamal Haasan who is shooting for his magnum opus Dasavadharam wants to ensure that his film too gets an equal share of attention. It is reported that the actor is planning a Hollywood style mid-air fight sequence near the Nehru stadium in the city. Apparently Kamal Haasan met the chief minister Karunanidhi two days ago to seek permission to perform and shoot this helicopter scene. This is because as per the air control rules, a person must procure prior permission before using the airspace in the city to operate a helicopter. Even though the details of the meetings are being kept under wraps, sources say that Mr Karunanidhi was very impressed after he saw some of Kamal’s stills from the movie, particularly those where the actor had special make-up on. It is reported that after seeing these visuals, the CM immediately wished the actor success in his efforts. Meanwhile, the shooting for this scene is expected to take place soon. According to insiders this sequence was chosen over the stadium so that they could make use of the plain green background as a screen on which they could superimpose special graphics for the movie. Eppadi sollareenga? Do you have inside information that this is not the case? For a 2 hour movie, if there are 10 characters, and even if only 5 are of importance, they need about 25 minutes of screentime. Assuming that no one else in the movie gets any screentime (2 Asins, Mallika Sherawat etc), then there is less character development possible than a half-an-hour sitcom on TV !!!

Kalaignar TV bags TV rights for 'Dasaavathaaram' Wednesday - Jun 13, 2007
Televisionpoint.com Correspondent The still to-be-launched Kalaignar TV, from the strong support of Tamil Nadu Chief minister M. Karunanidhi, which has bagged the TV rights of the much-hyped Rajnikanth starrer 'Sivaji', has made one more coup against market-leader Sun Network by buying the TV rights of Kamal Hassan's 'Dasaavathaaram' for an unprecedented price, reliable sources said. After protracted negotiations with producer 'Oscar' Ravichandran, Kalaignar TV executives sealed the deal agreeing to pay more than it had paid AVM Studios for 'Sivaji'. "We concluded the agreement yesterday. We are getting one lakh rupees more than what the channel paid for 'Sivaji'," Ravichandran said. "There is no doubt that 'Sivaji' will be a great commercial hit but I must tell you this-nobody in India can act the way Kamal Hassan has in performing the ten roles in 'Dasaavathaaram', none in another 20 or 30 years. Chief minister Kalaignar was stunned seeing the stills of Kamal in this film," Ravichandran said. He said the chief minister was shown the 'Dasaavathaaram' stills when Kamal Hassan approached him for special permission to shoot the climax scene of the movie at the Nehru Stadium in the city. Karunanidhi was gracious enough to accord the necessary permissions, said the producer. .................. However, Sun got the TV rights for the Telugu 'Dasaavathaaram' since Kalaignar TV does not have a Telugu channel yet. ......But in the end, sources said, Ravichandran sold the Telugu rights of 'Dasaavathaaram' to Sun's Gemini TV. The movie has a Hindi version too, which is under negotiation with Zee Cinema, considering that Kamal Hassan continues to have fans in the North. According to Ravichandran, his 'Dasaavathaaram' is likely to be released in another four months as a good part of the shooting has been completed. With Kamal Hassan donning ten roles, (a record after the late thespian Sivaji Ganesan who did nine in Navaraathri)some of the scenes required elaborate repeat-shoots, especially the yet-to-be completed climax showing all the ten Kamals in the same sequence. "We still have about 45 days of shooting, including two songs. One of the song sequences has Kamal appear in all the ten roles and that would mean shooting the entire song ten times with perfect synq of the hero in different places. We are also putting up a massive set stretching to two kms along the beach near Mahabalipuram to shoot a tsunami sequence," said a unit source. While Rajni's 'Sivaji' has the 'Midas-touch' Shankar as its director, 'Dasaavathaaram' is being done by made other than K. S. Ravikumar, who has made such blockbusters as 'Muthu' and 'Padayappa', both starring Rajnikanth. 'Dasaavathaaram' will have a big run since by then, 'Sivaji' would have had its initial thrust and slowed down at the box office. |

Retail, Kamal style!
By Moviebuzz | Monday, 18 June , 2007, 08:51 Kamal Hassan wants to restructure movie ticket sales in Tamilnadu. He wants to sell movie tickets and movie merchandise through retail outlets( like Spencers, Reliance etc). Kamal wants to start retailing of tickets with his next release Dasavatharam. Kamal was one of the speakers at a conference on "riding high on the retailing wave" organized by FICCI in Chennai. Speaking on the sensitive subject of "retailing", Kamal said: "cinema might seem like too distant a cousin to this retailing, but I have some pet ideas on how cinema tickets could be sold through retail". The actor wants to rope in retail giants to sell movie tickets through their outlets. Added Kamal: " I will probably start with the new film. It would check black-marketing of cinema tickets." |

Selling through retail shops doesnt cut down on anything black or markups. Refer all the sports tickets in the US. All of them are sold through a network of retail outlets, both online as well as physical ticket counters.
After the tickets are announced, all the biggies block-buy these tickets and then set up their own little outlets, again online as well, to hawk these at higher prices than the base price. So, in spite of good intentions, this will not deliver what is being hoped. |

At a function recently, when Vaali so much as mentioned "Dasavathaaram" and said he had penned some of the lyrics, the gathering went delirious with enthusiasm. "If even the name of the film can make you so joyous, how much more excited you will all be when the film actually releases" asked Vaali and the crowd went berserk with happiness once again. "Sivaji Ganesan himself told me that only Kamal could fill his place," Vaali went on. ''He is an atheist but a well-informed one, as I realised during the "Dasavathaaram" discussion. He knew more about "Visishtadwaitam" that Sujatha or I did." Kamal's only reaction was a genial smile. |

Kamal Haasan’s Dasavatharam is fast shaping up to reach its completion. One of the big budgeted movies, directed by K S Ravikumar, the movie features Kamal Haasan in ten different roles.
Sources say that the movie is inspired by the ten avatars of Lord Narayanan which is called in mythology as Dasavatharam. Shooting has been on at hectic pace and plans are on to complete the movie this July to concentrate on post-production works. Sources close to Dasavatharam unit confirm that one of the roles that Kamal Haasan play in the movie is an old woman. The old woman is involved in a stunt sequence. Buzz is that when the stunt sequence was shot, everyone in the unit acclaimed Kamal Haasan’s performance. Scenes involving Asin and Mallika Sherawat are also being shot. Ravikumar is optimistic of releasing the movie for Deepavali. |

All eyes on Dasavatharam
IndiaGlitz [Friday, June 29, 2007] With Sivaji fever slowly settling down, all eyes are now focused on Kamal Haasan's Dasavatharam. The magnum opus starring the 'Super Actor' is fast nearing completion. Buzz is that director K S Ravikumar is planning to wind up shooting by July and take a couple of months for post production works. The big news is that the movie would feature acclaimed director P Vasu and yesteryear heroine Rekha playing prominent roles in the movie. P Vasu is sharing the screen for the first time with Kamal Haasan, and Rekha, introduced by Bharathiraja had acted with Kamal Haasan in movies including Punnagai Mannan and Guna before. n Sivaji the positive effect of advancement of technology in film industry was much evident where super star's complexion was turned to white and this has been hailed as the first time in Kollywood. Now in the forthcoming Dasavatharam, one of the ten avatars of Kamal Haasan is said to be that of a black man.
Rajini & Kamal Kamal Haasan who has a penchant for trying out something new in each of his films is sure to attempt a novel method in Dasavatharam in depicting a black man. In fact he was the first one to use 2D animation in the action sequences in Aalavandan to tone down the violence. In Hey Ram, graphics was employed to describe his inner emotions. Hence going by the past history, in Dasavatharam too exhaustive techniques in technology may be exploited to portray him as a black man. Here not only the color of his skin, but also facial contours will have to be altered to make him look like a black man. Let us wait for the release of the film to find answers for all our queries. |

Kamal Haasan is one rare actor who dares to experiment on screen. A decade ago, when the technology had not so much inroads in Kollywood, he managed guts to come out with Aboorva Sagodharargal in which he played a short man.
Today for his Dasavatharam, he is doing the opposite. Among the ten different roles that he would be playing in the movie includes one in which he appears as a 'tallest' man. Kamal Haasan had taken great efforts to shoot those scenes. He appears as a middle-aged man who is over seven feet tall. Also the actor has played the roles of an old woman, a pop singer among others. Directed by K S Ravikumar, Dasavatharam would be completed at the earliest to facilitate a Deepavali release. Asin and Mallika Sherawat share the screen with Kamal |

Keen on Kamal Hassan’s ‘Dasavatharam’ distribution deal
Meera Mohanty New Delhi, July 13 The Tamil film industry has always set standards for professionalism, for well in control of budgets, and streamlined productions that have for long been the envy of a more flamboyant but less disciplined Bollywood. Now having corporatised the Hindi film industry, biggies such as Adlabs and UTV are testing waters in the South Indian film industry. UTV and Adlabs have shown interest in working out a production, distribution deal for Kamal Hassan’s next movie Dasavatharam. The movie is 90 per cent complete, and producer ‘Oscar’ Ravichandran is giving the propo sals a serious consideration. Kamal Hassan is also believed to be keen on an association with UTV which has produced movies such as Lagaan and Rang de Basanti and supported them with equally good marketing at interna tional platforms. Mr Siddharth Roy Kapur, Executive Vice-President - Marketing, Distribution & Syndication, UTV, says: “In the last few years, the South market has seen some great films, Tamil film industry taking the lead. The passion and star worship of the audiences is at a completely different level, which makes the market an interesting place. In June this year, we announced our tie-up with Radaan Mediaworks to co-produce films in South Indian languages. Now, we are co-producing Kannamooch i Yenada starring Sathyaraj, Radikaa Sarathkumar, Prithviraj and Sandya, expected to release in July 2007.We are also planning a project with director K.S. Ravikumar.” “We wanted a regional presence outside of the Hindi film industry, and Tamil and Telugu industries were the only ones that seemed interesting and viable in terms of revenues,” said Mr Manmohan Shetty, Chairman and Managing Director, Adlabs. The Reliance ADAG company will be producing a movie with Madhavan in the lead before the year end while its co-production Kireedam, starring Ajith Kumar is ready for release. However, Adlabs has not taken on the distribution respons ibility of its first Tamil venture. “We didn’t want to take all the risk, you could say we are testing the waters,” added Mr Shetty. The company is also partnering in Rajnikant’s daughter’s animation project Su ltan The Warrior. Mr Oscar Ravichandran, who is credited with bringing in a new era in the Tamil film industry by managing to get institutional funding from the IDBI for Anniyan, warns that money alone may not help, “It doesn’t matter how many hundreds of crores they bring, only those with creative ideas will survive here.” Mr Ravi Gupta, CEO, Mukta Arts, agrees, “Frankly, the Tamil film industry is well organised both in terms of funding and distribution, it’s a well-developed, self-contained industry. We are looking at regional cinema, but in Marathi,” he says. |

Chennai, July 15 (PTI): Calling upon bankers to grant film industry a "non-risk" status, noted actor Kamal Haasan said the sector, in turn, should scale up infrastructure and transparency to mitigate risk factors.
Delivering the key note address at a seminar on 'Indian Cinema-Winds of Change' here on Saturday, the Padma Shree awardee said: "bankers need not worry about granting us the status of non-risk industry...for that we have to scale up our infrastructure and arrangements with distributors and others should be (made) open and transparent." "Do not negate it as a high-risk industry," he added. He also said that the government was friendly towards the industry, was offering concessions and encouraging to the fraternity. "What we require is unrestricted trade like any other industry...it should not be treated like a special industry," he added. Kamal also lamented about the number of screens in the country. "America has about 36na!. We must have atleast 20,000 screens". Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the seminar, the actor said the industry should not be called Hollywood or Bollywood or any such name. "Soon a time will come when it will be called Holly-bolly or Hollyby". On his experience of using many American actors in his movies, he said this confluence of employment of talent should be mutual. Kamal further pointed out that the industry mostly was not professional. Lack of enough training facilities was also a big drawback. "There are not enough training facilities. Compare that with the number of engineering colleges and arts colleges..just look at the number of cinema halls we have". On his magnum opus, Dasavatharam, currently under production, in which he plays ten roles, he said: "it is progressing slowly and steadily. Slowly because it is a big and complicated film and steadily because it is a strong unit". "The shooting is expected to be completed next month. After that, post production...you never can properly decide when it will be completed." Asked if the film would be released on Diwali, he said it all depended on how soon the post production would be completed. |

Chennai, July 28: Noted actor Kamal Haasan, who is busy with his film 'Dasavatharam', talked to Chennaionline in an exclusive interview on the film which is one of the most eagerly awaited films in the history of Tamil cinema.
The actor revealed that the film would be completed this month. "Work is on. We hope to complete the film by this month-end." On how many roles he is actually doing in the film, whether it was ten or more, Kamal quipped, "I don't know how many roles I am actually doing in this film, though people say I am doing ten roles." (laughs). Dasavatharam is expected to be one of the most-talked about movies in India in view of the interest centering on Kamal's choice of roles. Speculation is rife that Kamal has picked characters which are unusual. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, to whom kamal recently showed some of the film's stills, is said to have expressed suprise and admiration over the choice of roles and the way Kamal looked. The actor is said to be planning an aerial shoot in Chennai for which he is reportedly seeking the permission of the Tamil Nadu government. There is also speculation that one of the roles he is planning is that of American President George Bush. Incidentally, Bharatiraja today made anxious enquiries about the film when he met Kamal briefly. "I have always been amazed by Kamal's commitment to the film industry which is without any parallel, at least in India. He is a highly skilled actor and an intellectual, and has acquired all the skills in the film industry. What amazes me even more is the amount of risks he takes for a film." Recalling the first film in which they worked together - Padhinaaru Vayadhiniley - Bharatiraja said, "No actor would have done the things which a leading actor like Kamal did in that film. He removed his clothes, and was dressed only in a loin cloth. He really lived that character - Chappani - and gave it a dimension and depth which even I, as the director, had not conceived. Even a real-life Chappani would not have performed like Kamal. He lived that character and it is still fresh in our minds." Bharatiraja said Kamal spent such huge time on his different roles in Dasavatharam's different roles. "I saw him at the sets with special make-up on for about five hours at a stretch which would be difficult for any actor to cope up with despite the heat and sweat. But Kamal puts in so much effort and strain and risk into his films, and that is why he is so special." On his part, Kamal had high praise for Bharatiraja saying that in 'Sigappu Rojakkal' Bharatiraja showed such skill and command in an urban format though he was considered a king of the rural scene. "I was moved by Bharatiraja's gesture in showing the director's rush of 'Bommalaattam' to only two persons - me and director Balachander. That showed his faith and trust in me. This comes from a man whom I have seen sleeping in our office with his head on the box containing the film reels prior to the release of his early-day films," Kamal said. The actor said he had seen Bharatiraja's film Bommalaattam and found it extremely good. He found shades of 'Sigappu Rojakkal' in the new film. (R Rangaraj) |

Expectations are increasing by the day for 'Dasavataram.' Each person comes up with a phenomenal budget for the film, anywhere from 50 to 80 crores. The film is expected to be released for Diwali.
Though reams of gossip have appeared about the story line and Kamal's get-ups, only Kamal and director KS Ravi Kumar know the real truth. The film involves a lot of graphics, so 4 companies have been given the assignment, 2 in Chennai and 2 in Mumbai. Since the film is to be released in 3 languages, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, so about a 1000 prints are to be made. The producer Oscar Ravichandran is very confident about the film. According to him, like the film 'Titanic,' 'Dasavataram' will have a global appeal and everyone would be able to understand it too. That's fine, but will he be able to recover the cost? Ravichandran reckons that the film would easily make 300 crores. http://www.cinesouth.com/masala/hotnews/new/01082007-2.shtml |

like... the trailor should increase the curiosity of the public... i mean PUBLIC.. ie the people who are less aware of the movie now... not the cinema fans i mean... secondly, the music... as HR is a new face, he should make music which has the thamizh smell in it... as already his bommalattam's music has hindi feel with it... and thirdly the stills and promos they release... If they break their head to come up with creative & curiosity triggering stuff on all these above, then they will definitely get a grand brand opening... moreover, now they might have got lots of positive and negative lessons from the current high budgeted Sivaji's promos and release... |

On the other hand, I too believe that these producers are hyping big time about the budget. I don't still believe that the budget of Sivaji would be whatever they claim (70C or whatever). Media also plays a big part in it. Like Thotta had said, the sets for Vaji Vaji song was put @ a cost of 30lakhs, while the media had published as 3.5 crores, so no one other than the producers know, how much they had spent for it. |

Senthil Kumar of Tambaram in Chennai had filed a writ appeal in the High court alleging that the Kamal Hassan starrer Dasavatharam was based on a story written by him. He has said in his writ appeal that he had handed over the story to Kamal Hassan's office who had promised him money and also said he would be appointed as assistant director. In defense, it was argued by the star's lawyers that the story was written by Kamal himself "out of his imagination" and Senthil Kumar did not send any story. Remember last week Kamal himself following a court directive, appeared in court and told his side of the story to the Judges in camera. Senthil Kumar case was dismissed by a lower court early this year, and then he had filed a writ appeal in the High court. Now the First Bench, headed by Chief Justice A.P Shah has reserved the orders after hearing arguments from both sides. Tomorrow (August 20), Monday the case is coming up for the final judgment. |

By Behindwoods News Bureau. August 21, 2007 Kamal Haasan is one of the biggest and maybe the best actor in India. He has fans all over the world and his Orkut community has more than 40000 members. In an effort to increase Kamal's popularity these fans held a meeting in Bangalore wherein it was decided to design Dasavatharam T-shirts and distribute it free of cost to all poor Kamal Haasan fans. The T-shirts will be sold at Rs. 200 and those who can afford can buy it. The money realized through this T-shirt sale will be used for organizing eye and blood donation camps to be held when Dasavatharam is released. makkalae... namma hubbers'la yaravadhu indha crew'la irukkeengala...? |

‘Dasavatharam’ may hit the screens by Pongal
Two songs of the movie are yet to be shot CHENNAI: One has to wait for the best things in life. In the case of Kamal Hassan’s fans, this could particularly hold true with respect to ‘Dasavatharam’. The buzz among industry sources is that the much-awaited ‘multi-starrer’ is likely to hit the marquee only in January, during Pongal. With the shooting for the talkies portion of the film and a couple of song sequences completed, two songs remain to be shot. The crew is expected to wind up shooting soon. The post-production work, including graphics, is likely to stretch out for the next three months. Being the top-notch perfectionist, Kamal is said to have insisted on high-quality graphics work and fans could be in for a visual treat. The crew had shot a few scenes at SRM Dental College near Chennai recently. Though the production crew has maintained total secrecy over the project and shoot details, a few photos have, however, been doing the rounds in online fora. One of the photographs featured Kamal in a Punjabi attire performing a bhangra number. Fans may have to wait a bit longer for the “balle balle” though. |

He was very confident abt the result but we (other family members) felt the pressure due to the risk involved in it. Athu andha kaalam CR. Do you really think that a high budget movie like DV/sivaji can afford to have some competition? In the last 2-3 years the success of a movie is being calculated within the initial three weeks itself. When padayappa got released there were enough theaters to release vaali. I mean a padayappa did not need a lot of theaters to become lets say a *hit*. So I think if a DV is going to be released other movies will have to wait!! |
