Its a vijay movie with lots of comedy + dance + wonderful songs + fast paced narration. editing was crisp and movie moved quite fast. second vijay was very very good one with the voice modulation and style etc. one more worthy mention is the fight sequence b/w both vijay's. all the songs choreography was very good esp the kelamal and ponmagal. the intro fight plus the fight with bamboo during a chase etc was uncalled for. first half with comedy sequences and ESP etc set the pace for second half. second half with the villain vijay sequences laced in with comedy was too good. all in all a complete entertainer though its not a typical vijay movie and its gonna be family audience that pull this movie more. intro song dance + choreo was top class - too good. i personally liked the graphics usage (though amateurish) especially for the scene of ants carrying food. climax was on expected lines with not even 0% chance of vijay dying in the movie.

Nee Marilyn Monroe - Nice sexy song - the girl backup dancers were much hotter than Namitha (she'll be back later in a funny scene!!!) 5. Pon$$$magal Vandaal - Quite short but excellent song at that moment in the movie... 6. Valayapatti - The dance steps had human "tabla'" routine!!! The ESP scenes were done very well - the comedy was OK - the BG from ARR was OK as it mosty uses the songs. Overall, an enjoyable movie that you can bring your friends, family along with and have a great time. |

Agreed climax is and though I simply loved Prasad,he was a lil over the top at times(reminds you of 90's SRK).But inspite of the shortcomings I still enjoyed it more than Pokkiri.
Opening is superstrong.First week'la atleast 50% recover pannanum for the movie to break even.

........and not to forget his irritating "anna anna" dialogues......i was thoroughly impressed with his restrained performance in first half .....he did well in ESP scenes as well ........but the real comedy began when the baddie enters........wow, doesent he love Rajinikanth - i could see mottai boss-2 here .......however the baddie character was pretty much enjoyable going on a ruthless path until the climax humdinger......he showed shades of good acting in the villain role - do more negative characters, vijay - and u'll see the difference ........but he was found lacking in the uniqueness department.....i mean, i was myself confused over which vijay is whom when both come on-screen.... ......i also felt he lacked the force in the scenes where he comes back to find his GF marrying the dummy.......all in all, vijay has tried something different from his usual - which needs a big round of applause
......the master's songs are already a big hit, which was a big plus for the opening.......with songs picturised well, they gleam on screen.....maduraikku pogadhadi erupted in theatre ......valyapatti, the best song suffers from bad timing.......BGM was very good......as usual ARR sticks to one BGM per character - good vijay, shreya and bad vijay......which ultimately helped us to differentiate .......judging by the C centre front bencher vijay fans, though they were happy with ARR's name associated with the movie, they didnt enjoy the songs as much they did for pokkiri or Gilli....thats a big frequency mismatch......
.......actually the script was a pretty strong one which was left in lurch by director in second half.....second half is our typical 70's/80's masala movies - no logic only action......second half too, had a good pace, and timing of ponmagal vandhal song was truly amazing ......second half catches fire when the good guy enters the scene.......but i thought the good v bad challenges were stretched a bit too far .....valayapatti song should be cut, sadly....and ofcourse 1-2 scenes towards the end .......namitha's entry was like whiff of fresh air .....and so what went wrong - its the climax folks
........u spoiled a good movie with such a insipid climax........climax was horrendous with even vijay fans giving cat calls in the theater .......we are in the age of ruthless/heartless villains and you show a merciful villain ......climax was a big "mokkai" which single-handedly would restrict the run of the movie..... ....paal payasm pongi vara nerathula, palli-a thookki potta madhiri irundhudhu

Concentrate on Vijay and his performance. I know that there are things not in the way you expect and a few mistakes done. But you cannot just let down Vijay for such silly things and say that the movie is not good. We can forgive a few poorly executed scenes for the sake of respecting the hard work of an one man army called Vijay, who in addition to his usual comedy, dance, action, romance departments has taken up the villan department and has given us an excellent performance. At the peak of his career, he has taken the risk of acting in a film like ATM inspite of knowing the fact that it will not be a typical Vijay film expected by everyone. I salute that confidence! |

The way I look at it, altho people don't like this film, it offers a flicker of hope that Vijay has started to do something different. Vijay is being appreciated barring a few exceptions. He wasn't horrible as the villan as someone said It was the villian's characterization the was horrible.
Although I am a Vijay fan, I was very annoyed for awhile with his films, and I don't think I could have sat through another Sivakasi. This film really isn't THAT bad and despite however much criticism it gets (what's this LIC business??), it's one of Vijay's better films. |

I have not seen the movie yet. Here it has not released. Only Vel and Machakaaran got released. and the theatres have rejected it directly. The guy had screened vel instead of atm. Missing a centre might add up to the loss. Vijay should be careful from here onwards before selling his movies. Well, if people think like this, there's no chance of him changing ever. The experimentation that I meant is that he just does something different (like the ESP or dual role) embedded within the usual masala formula and he has done that in ATM, which went to waste, unfortunately due to a lousy screenplay.

Say films like Premonition starring Sandara Bullocks and a foreign film with the same title ‘Premonitions’, all three parts of Final Destination, Tom Cruise starrer Minority Report. All these films have the same concept of extra sensory perceptions and now Bharathan has watched these movies adapted it. The story begins with Vijay??? Please guess how the movie starts… I think your guess may be right for all the movies of Vijay have the same kind of commencing. For the first 30 minutes, it’s the same old story that includes a fight filled with plenty of punch dialogues followed by song, a comedy sequence, entry of heroine and misunderstanding hero and finally falling in love with him for a good deed he did. If you have this guess and then your intelligence is praise worthy. Of course, the film is about Guru (Vijay) an athlete and business management student who falls in love with Abhinaya (Shriya) at first sight. First filled with couple of clashes, Abhinaya falls for Guru admiring his kind-heartedness. Both of them get permission from their parents to get married and then begin the problem. Guru starts visualizing group of premonitions that becomes a great nightmare. First, he gets the premonition of his small girl in the neighborhood falling from the terrace and dying. Yes, it does happen and he is entirely blown out. Followed by this, he has another premonition of a bus in which his father and relatives traveling is hit by a running train. This time, with all his efforts wins the fate. But now comes a big dilemma when in his premonition he starts visualizing a horrible sequence of he himself stabbing Abhinaya to death. Fearing that he may be the cause for his sweet heart’s death, he runs away to Mumbai without telling anyone. Over there he has a big shock where he sees a person named Prasad (Vijay) who looks the same like Guru. With Guru hit with accident, Prasad moves to Chennai and rest of the story is what happens next? The story is so interesting but it is Bharathan who is to be blamed for making a poor directorial start. Vijay has done a good job for he acted according to Bharathan’s direction. It’s more and more annoying to see Shreya for she doesn’t know how to act and it raises the doubt how she was opted to act in Sivaji. Appearing in half-naked dress all the time, she doesn’t know how to act with facial expressions. All that she knows is shaking her hips and exposing it for all the songs whatever may be the costumes. For an excellent musical song like ‘Maduraikku Pogadhadi’ just imagine how a woman should dance and we are sure even a woman with no basic knowledge of dance would have done a good job. A.R.Rahman Is the only convince for all the audience. ‘Pon Magal Vandhal’ looks good and cool treat to the eyes. As a whole, the film is not worth watching and that’s because of a good story mislead by Director Bharathan. Director, Music Director, the entire cast and crew are sure have earned good profited other than producer Appachan who spent crores of money to produce such movie. In that few could be genuine and many are for the sake of Vijay. |

My neighbour in my home town who is a vijay fan and his friends, all of them said movie is bad. He had not said this in the past few years about a vijay movie. My team mate who is a Kamal + Vijay fan ( ) was telling me, anne thayavu senju intha padathukku poidaatheenga, sema mokkai
At least i had not heard from any person directly that at least the movie is watchable. I did like Pokkiri. Of course i did not see ATM. But so far word of mouth is quite bad. Probably if they edit, then it may better. You are right in one way. Even for a good entertainer like Pokkiri people were bashing the movie like anything. In that few could be genuine and many are for the sake of Vijay. |

I am not sure whether MGR had kids as fans since he didnt do much comedy during his time but female fans are important and I agree. As long as they are there , even their kids will watch the respective stars' films

praising/criticizing does not stop his growth... i would say that, his music has grown huge... gigantic... imagine a giant as shown in mahabharatha/ramayana along with average people who appear so tiny near his legs... so if these people try to see, they can only view its legs... and later they complain that, it has no head and other body parts, and the leg is also in unshape... |
