I am startin this thread for the Recap of 2005:

My request to Vijay/Ajith fans, no actors bashing please....

Highlight of this year, is comeback of Superstar.....

Chandramukhi had stupendous success.... Even, Rajini himself did not imagine about.... Everybody is eager to watch is forthcoming Sivaji.
Next person who had very good year is Vijay with 2 hits... Vijay has rised to much better position this year. Average movies like
Thirupachi, Sivakasi were surprise hits..

Vikram had 1 blockbuster and 1 less than average grosser... Anniyan has proved him once again he can take different roles...

Surya also have rose to much better position. He is among the top heroes who gives great opening. All of this 3 movies saw a great opening. He gave 1 blockbuster, 1 flop and waiting for the verdict of Aaru..

Kamal/Ajith did not have good year,, with one disappointing film...
Ajith's personal problems are almost solved. He is ready for a Slew of releases next year.....

The no.1 performer of 2005 is undoubtedly Vijay whose mere presence has turned 2 crap movies into blockbusters(Thirupaachi and Sivakasi)!His releases Thirupaachi and Sachien crossed 200 days His Sachien though dint perform as expected,was an average hit and certainly an omen for the time of coronation of the prince into king.I think the time is not far away and VIjay will get his place after Aathi

This year had 3 silver Jubilee films
1 Chandramukhi
2 Thirupaachi
3 Sachien

A mix of good, bad and ugly for Kollywood

Tamil filmdom is never short of glitz, glamour and also controversy. Circa 2005 will go down as one in which Kollywood had its share of good and bad, highs and lows, controversies, awards, et al. Apart from the usually high number of releases and hits and misses, it was a year in which saw a standoff between politicians and film stars over moral policing by the former, controversy involving remarks of actress Kushboo on premarital sex besides actors Vijayakanth and Karthick throwing their hat in the political ring.
Khaja Mohideen
Members of the South Indian Artistes Association, representing film actors and actresses, demanded a public apology from producer-director-actor Thangar Bachchan for his remarks against actresses. Thangar Bachchan had reportedly at the audio release of his film Chidambarathil Oru Appasamy referred to actresses in a derogatory manner.

A couple of months after the incident, actress Kushboo's remarks on the chastity of Tamil women in an interview to a Tamil weekly, drew a slew of protests from women in the State with volunteers of PMK, a constituent of ruling UPA at the Centre, and Dalit Panthers of India leading protests against the actress.

Over 50 defamation cases were filed against her and a court in Mettur issued a non-bailable warrant against her. Later, Kushboo surrendered before the court to stop execution of the NBW.

Former National award winner Suhasini Manirathinam raised her voice in support of Kushboo taking part in an public function and reportedly sought an apology to the actress on behalf of the entire Tamil fraternity. This led to protests and she also came in for criticism.
Meanwhile, protests continued from a few Tamil chauvinist groups to have the title of Suryah's film changed from BF. In the end, he bowed to the pressure and changed the title as Anbae Aruyirae.

The year also saw producer Khaja Mohideen attempting suicide after a series of flops which landed him in financial trouble.

Actress Sneha denied reports in some sections of the press which had said that she was to marry a Malaysia-based businessman Naga Ravi and also said the photographs that appeared on some websites were morphed.

Veteran actor 'Gemini' Ganesan, who had acted in several hundred movies and was affectionately called 'Kadhal Mannan', passed away after a prolonged illness this year.

Popular actor Vijayakant entered politics by floating his own party Desiya Murpokku Dravidar Kazhagam in Madurai on 14 September. Another prominent actor Karthick, hailing from the backward Thevar community, a dominant group in southern parts of the State, declared he would join All- India Forward Bloc and would bring all factions of the party under one umbrella.

Noted actor Anandharaj took a plunge into politics by joining AIADMK some months ago.

Interestingly, the Kollywood witnessed more than 100 films getting released during the year, perhaps after a long gap. Interestingly, some of few of small budget movies did well.

Tamil films also won various accolades. Cheran's Autograph won three National awards, while director Shanker's home production Kaadhal was screened at various film festivals.

Among the year's highlights were the phenomenal comebacks of actor Rajnikanth and director Shankar. Both had an emintently forgettable time in their last ventures.

Rajnikanth's Chandramukhi did wonderfully well at the box-office and re-established his supremacy in Tamil filmdom while Shankar's Anniyan starring Vikram was a smashing hit.

Vijay continued to be the darling of producers as his films Thirupachi, Sachin and Sivakasi saw good collections at the box-office. Some other films including Ghajini starring Surya and Cheran's Thavamai Thavamirundhu put up an good show.

The year saw maestro Illayaraja coming out with a symphonic oratorio on the Thiruvasakam. Ilayaraja had composed the symphony with a musical orchestra from Budapest.

Another interesting aspect this year is host of Malayalam girls trying their luck in Kollywood. Among the starlets were Nayantara, Gopika, Asin, Renuka Menon, Padma Priya, Bhavana and Sandhya, to name a few. The year has ended on an optimistic note with Kamal Haasan commencing his next film Vettaiyadu Villayadu and Rajni doing the same with Sivaji.

It has been a memorable year for the Tamil film industry and things can only get better in 2006.

u must be kidding atleast she jus didnt come and screen and go. her performance was amazing!
ye i spose priyasaki was a ok movie but madhavan did better a few years ago, alapayuthay was soo sweet, i like him, i wish he does beta movies next year.

I will have to mention some quality movies, which dint make big though...
1. Kanaa Kandein - Based on Kandhu vatti awareness and Desalination plant awareness.

2. Kanda Naal Mudhal - good attempt by PriyaV and Prakashraj... Hats of to them....

Ok guys,, We are getting off the track. Lets stick to the subject of 'REcap of 2005'.

We have talked about frontline heroes... Lets continue with next line heroes...

One hero who needs mention is Sathyraj. He has acted max. no.of movies 2 years in a row... He is termed as minimum gurantee hero...

Jayam Ravi looked promising in 2004. 2005 turned out to be a bad year for him... Lets hope 2006 is better for him....

Dhanush's graph started sliding end of 2004... It continued sliding this year also. He has pinned up his hopes on Pudupettai in 2006.

New talents to be mentioned is Arya...

Being a bharathanatyam dancer myself, I have to admire the fact that she trained so hard, and acheived a certain level of success...She was good in trying to keep up with professional Vineeth..I agree though...her eyes were a BIG plus and without them she might have not pulled off RAA RAA...

6 has been declared a hit, how big of a hit it is, is yet to be seen. But it's a hit!

And ur absolutly right! Mayaavi was a flop but it took a very impressive opening!

Gajini - Bumper Opening and was a Blockbuster!!

6 - Bumper Opening, and a hit. Further is yet to be determined.

Jo overacted in Chandramukhi, because the charecter demanded it!! Those expressions are common among the skitzophrenically deluded.

So I think that Jo Jo Jo Jothika was awesome in the film!!

Kolly, I agree with you.. Its not very easy to dance with prefessional like Vineeth. I think Jo did pretty decent job.

Atlast u agreed that both the movies were crap, but dont forget that tirupachi and sachien were made to run, and sivakasi failed miserably at BO.

Other highlight of 2005 is the Tamil film industry had 100 films released.

Off the good quality films, 'Raam' needs to get mentioned... Jeeva/Ameer and YSR did a great job....

Srikanth dint have a good year either... He decided to stop acting action roles and moved to soft romantic roles.. Kanaa Kandein was good, but not just because of Srikanth... He tried comedy in 'Bamabara K......'. Dint work out well.....

I think u r still upset at that Sivakasi scene.
Anyway cut that crap.Vijay did an excellent job this yr.
Watch Sachien.Therell be no novelty or twists,but the film will be enjoyable.There is never a dull moment,and Vijay wud have come up with a unique performance!

Avenger, I rated them BASED ON how they ROSE this year. Vijay must have performed well.(definitely he is a good actor)

But he never did ANYTHIGN DIFFERENT or EXCEPTIONAL to show that he is rising. HE JUST REMAINED stay put in the same place.

Surya and VIKRAM rose a step further.

Vijay is one of the best actor. But 2005 did not show him anything special.

kushi WAS AN EXCELLENT MOVIE. I am tired of saying, except for that kattipudi song, it was great. U TALK ONLY OF THAT SONG. There were other scenes WHICH U FAILED TO SEE? DID u CLOSE ur eyes during other scenes to see only the trash?

If yes then IN VAALI u could have only HEARD the movie. (I liked vaali too okei!)

U seem to be biased when u rate trash scenes.

Vijay should have avoided doing yet another movie with him.(sivakasi). Instead of relying on him for giving a victory after sachin he should gone to someone else.

First of all kushi is a movie without any good storyline. Just a kind of yet another love story. That's why it bombed at Bollywood coz those people have already seen enough of this kind of movies. Kattupudi might have been a big issue here in TN but in Bollywood that song turned out to be a lighter one. Apart from that scene, what I don't like in Kushi is the over acting of Jyothika coupled with vijay.

Vaali is an fantastic movie. The acting of double ajith along with beautiful acting from simran definitly makes it a masterpiece in ajith's list of movies.

I don't know whom u are pointing at. But trash scenes are those scenes which have nothing to do with the storyline. I saw plenty of them in Kushi and not even a single one in Vaali. Perfect first movie from S J Surya..

On the contrary bolloywood always is known for its various forms of LOVE STORIES alone. I dont think STORY wuz the reason it flopped in BW. Even if another love story comes with multidimensional love(INCLUDING GHOST or VAMPIRE) ppl watch it, as long as its played by anyone with STAR VALUE.

Jyo is known for her OVER acting. Imho, Vijay was JUST FINE.

I never denied the fact vaali is an EXCELLENT movie. I was just arguing with justice, for his statements about VJ acting in raunchy scenes. Did u not have any such in VAALI? (whether or not it goes with the story, is not the question here)

Never before have there been so many hits and super hits. Out of 97 films released in 2005, there were three blockbusters, three super hits, four hits and at least five films that broke even.

Apart from "Chandramukhi," and "Anniyan," "Ghajini" is the third blockbuster (Together they collected three or more times their total cost).

Movies like Laghaan, Black, Mangal Pandey are class..
I Agree in terms of story, Tamil and Malayalam are the best... and some Bengali also..

I suppose many of u guys dont get to watch good movies in hindi. Hindi definitely has class movies. next to malyalam however.

tamizh is nowhere near it.

with directors like CHERAN, T.BACHAN, etc, lets c where we go in future!!!

In fact, I hv. spent many years in mumbai and I know what kind of Hindi movies are released these days. Old Hindi movies are very good compared to new ones.
