This is what superstar Mahesh has to tell after the experience of watching 'Dasavatharam'. The actor also tells that it is very extraordinary for an actor to do 10 roles with such ease and perfection.

Mahesh was particularly thrilled and inspired after seeing the care, the amazing make-up and the body language adopted by Kamal.

The scene which the actor liked the most is the one in which the five characters come together.

Mahesh have the highest regards and compliments the producer of 'Dasavatharam', Mr. Aaskar Ravichandran and Director K.S.Ravikumar for trying and coming out successfully in such a mammoth attempt which aimed at setting the highest standards in film making.

2. Dasavataram:
When it is Kamal Haasan it has got to be something big and different, that is exactly worked in the film's favor. Though this was completely a Kamal flick, he has done ten different roles which kind of sumps up for the talent and the hard work he has put in his film. The glamorous touch of Mallika Sherawat and the presence of Asin was another factor that played some key role. The film stands in position-2 in the box office list of the week.

Anantha vikatan may have better printing paper quality over nakeeran ..otherwise compare to JV ,Nakeeran has better track records for investigative journalism

Moreover ,Nakeeran don't have gaandu on kamal ,like Vikatan have.

their jalra quality is also very well

apart frm movies, i dont know much about their politics viewpoint and neutrality amount, but i feel they do atleast a decent job in that front. maybe not as good as nakkeeran, i dont know.

i belive nakkeeran has no reason to false praise or bias against any political party. they simply trash all the parties

2. June 19 - 22: Dasavatharam - $ 394,001 (US Figures) {-34.5% drop}

3. June 26 - 29: Dasavatharam - $ 171,904 (US Figures) {-56.4% drop}

4. July 3 - 6: Dasavatharam - $ 87,836 (US Figures) {-48.9% drop}

Total as of July 6th is - $1,591,897 (US Figures) or 6,84,83,408.94 INR (6.8 Crore)

Malaysia Box Office reports are given for "4" days compared to the normal "3" days pretty much everywhere else around the world. So..it goes from Thursday-Sunday rather than Friday-Sunday.

So....the total collection of $1,591,897 is what DASA has made at the Malaysian Box Office since the day of it's release until July 6, 2008. Out of the $1,591,897....only $337,119 was collected during the weekdays or in this case from Monday-Wednesday. Not only AP, its a clean sweep in Kerala as well

One more factor is this:
Outside Chennai, its done very well in other areas of TN.
In very few B/C centers, it might be slightly lagging w.r.t to biggest ever slot, but the difference is the profit margin is better for Dasa because of the rate at which it was sold. Aascar
In most other centers, its the outright winner.

A crucial factor for 10A's success has been the lady audience segment, which in recent times has not been our forte. (VV was still a BB but yet it couldn't penetrate certain sections of the audience).

Dasavatharam continues to rule the CBO, fourth week in a row. At number two is the new Bharath release Munniyandi Vilangiyal Moonrammandu, which took a good opening on the first day but fell on the second day because of bad word-of-mouth. At number three is Subramaniapuram, which had houseful screenings thanks to a limited release in small screens. However, it is attracting only the youth—family audiences are keeping away because of excessive violence.
In the fourth position is Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, which made mincemeat of its opposition Love Story 2050. Though the latter opened at bigger and better screens, it bombed after the first show. Finally, in the fifth position is The Incredible Hulk (and its Tamil version Pachamanithan), which is steady.

Last week's number two, Ayudham Seivom, has disappeared from the BO reckoning because it was a flop.

exactly ,I am really proud of myself to hv extrapolated these numbers myself but of fear that it might be rubbished hadnt posted it yesterday.

I talked with the person who screened the movie in mpls and he(vera enna cricket connection thaan btw he was just one of the 4 who had bought it) said that a total of arnd 10K tickets were sold in the last 4 weeks.
10K tickets at $12 approx. = 120K.Given that mpls is a mid sized city and atleast 10 more cities wud have done similar business .its safe to say that 1.2 mil is a sure thing collected.

I personally want Aandavar to do more such films coz there is no substitue for success

Joe sir - i beg to differ with you on this - there is sufficient reason to suspect that the whole Rajkumar 'kidnapping' was a very-well planned move by the late Raj ji's wife and family to extort money from both TN and Karnataka govts using Veerappan ! The lates magnum opus from India's most relentlessly envelope-pushing, genre-experimenting and still it's most prodigiously gifted Thespian is, boiled down to it's very essence, a long chase movie. Yes, that most generic of plot threads is strung along a 3 hour running time upon which Dr. Kamal Hasan's views, opinions, thoughts and musings on topics as diverse as Religion Vs. Atheism Vs. Science, caste conundrums, bio-warfare, Chaos Theory and The Butterfly Effect are judiciously pegged and plugged at various intervals. It's all giddily entertaining, thankfully, as the whole enterprise is shot through with a commercial sensibility firmly anchored by generous heapings of comedy and wittily punning dialogue (penned,like the story and screenplay, by Kamal himself).

As Baradway Rangan so eloquently articulated in his blog, the only problem with the whole Kamal approach to being layered beneath tons of prosthetics, something fans have been treated to for the better part of a decade, is that it inevitably gives rise to a question: Are you supposed to be reacting to the performance or the facial tics, mannerisms, goggle eyed glassed, scars and accent heavy patois it comes bundled in?

Such musings can be swept aside for Dasavatharam as for once, it's the Performances which take the honours, swooping down victoriously and snatching at least 4 out of 10 incarnations from the jaws of Derisive Disbelief on the part of the audience, for the most shocking thing about this high budget Hoopla that has as it's USP the assailing of 10 distinct characters on the part of it's Star, a first ever for Tamil cinema, is the Low Rent Make Up.

If Shivaji's colossal budget couldn't detract from it's low concept,you at least saw the moolah splashed on screen.

Dasavatharam is delightfully high concept (for a masala) wedded, unfortunately, to shoddy make up and schlocky effects.

Kamal as George Bush, CIA assassin Fletcher, a Brahmin Nanogenarian, Japanese Aikido Master and an 8 feet tall Muslim is a disaster where acceptance of how realistic these characters are supposed to look is used as a yardstick but his pitch perfect Yank accent, Brahmin enunciation and Japanese rolls of the "R"s help soothe the ears, tiding over what your eyes refuse to accept, which for the most part look as if white, wrinkly dough was slapped liberally about Kamal's face, hands and thighs.
But the 12th century priest Nambi and Dalit crusader Vincent Poovaraagan are master classes in bringing characters to life. Watch the former cut down a Shaivite King for daring to uproot a Vishnu idol in flawless Chola era Tamil and the latter castigate a sand smuggler in a tongue wrapped mellifluously around a pitch perfect Tirunelvelli accent(which gave this viewer 2 reasons to be thankful of the film's excellent English sub-titling) and you can see why Kamal's still miles ahead of his contemporaries in the acting stakes.
But the doozy is investigator Naidu, the most rib-tickling creation Kamal has birthed since Kameshwaran the Palghat cook mixed Tamil and Malayalam to serve heaping helpings of mirth way back in Michael,Madhana,Kama Rajan.
Mallika's Hot, Asin's Not, thanks to a script that has the latter go from spunky to squealy to outright annoying.
In the end, you need to ask yourself, in the Creative Void where most Tamil movies seem to languish these days, how many films dare even put ideas and concepts in a mass entertainer, and while the Boxing Day Tsunami of 2004 has been mentioned, crudely in comedic punchlines in most movies, and disgustingly inserted into a song lyric in one, Dasavatharam dares to culminate in its actual depiction. As the mile high waves cascade down and wash people and property away, it ties up plot threads, inter-connects others and bridges a 12th century plotline on religious discord to 21st century musings on Religion and Causality. That takes creativity and guts..in regretfully short supply elsewhere on the Tamil Cine Landscape.

Aalavandhan's psychedelic psycho thriller a little too unpalatable?

Dasavatharam collects Rs100 crores in 3 weeks?

Dasavatharam has grossed US $14,683,762 at the end of the third week after it hit the silver screens worldwide. However, the amount does not include the collections made in North America and from certain parts of India.

After learning more about the Butterfly Effect and Chaos Theory weaved into the storyline, the audience seemed to have understood Dasavatharam better. In fact, people have been thronging the theatres to watch the film yet again after learning about these theories. It is inferred that if the present trend continues, Dasavatharam could easily be on its way to becoming one of the highest grossing South Indian movies around the globe.

Today I boarded the wrong bus (412) which went through small bylanes of Byappanahalli and Maruthi seva nagar. There is a theatre there showing Dasa. They had a HUGE collage of Kamal stills - it was awesome. Dasa has been running there very successfully. Co passengers in kannada were saying 'Yaenu Acting - Sakkathaage maadidhaarappa Kamal'.

When Kothai accidentally hits against the chola mandapam , she was uttering the dialogue that "ungallaum enakkum endha jenmatthilayum sambandham illai"

I think this is a marvellous piece of direction,screenplay and ability to link scenes. People who complain about screenplay should see this. Also it confirms that Kamal portrays Asin and Govind as modern day Nambi and Andal.

Also there is some link between the eagle symbol of US president which carries arrows in one hand and the garuda which is hit by lot of arrows in 12th century

also why both Mallika and Fletcher get killed by a sharp object piercing their chest..... there are lot of things in this movie and only Kamal can correct people's opinion

BUt i have a doubt abt the collection figures as i had seen in another website (probably indiaglitz) that the collection figures were close to 4.6 crores at the end of 3 weeks itself. anyway, i will check that out again and give an update soon.

and i dont get one more point. everybody knows that dasa's kerala rights was sold to the distributor Henry for 2.35 crores. and now it has collected almost or more than twice its investment. and these people just call it as "hit'?? it should at least be called as "superhit"

Dasavatharam in Bahrain
Dear Kamalians,

Its a great pleasure for me to join the community and post a first message from Bahrain. Dasavathram is still running with weekends full packed. I have never seen any film running more than one week. The average running time is jus 3-4 days and if the movie is better, it goes up to 2 weeks...at that is the maximum but our Dasa is nearing 1 month. I hope it will run for another 2 weeks and that would be a record in Bahrain for any tamil movie.

One unfortunate thing is that, the first scence (Rangaraja Nambi) is being cut and we have all missed that wonderful scene Eventhough, I saw the film four times, it is very embarassing that I go every week to the theatre and ask if that scene is included. I will have to wait for the oficial DVD release to watch that scene.

Great Work Guys....I will update you if I have info abt Dasa in Bahrain...

Dasa Impact on My Son

Yesterday night my 5 years old son came to me and told he wanted us to take him to Kanchipuram on this weekend to see my parents. I told him it is not possible for this weekend. He asked my wife she replied him that if they go there i would be alone then .

But he can be pretty nuanced and deep. In the June (inaugual) issue of the new literary magazine வார்த்தை, he wrote an excellent essay about the 'close-up shot'.

The philosophy behind a close-up shot, its purpose and intent, how masters around the world have used it, simple examples of contemporary films across the world that have used this as a powerful film technique, how it has been consistently abused in our films and most importantly what ise behind the mentality and approach that explain this misuse.

I was pleasantly surprised to read such a scholarly yet accessible exposition of film techniques in a essay written in Tamil.

Also the rod actually fell into the ocean before a fish eating it. Fish was then caught by JaRa and the rod was inside the fish. He used that as an arrow.... so here also the rod is inside ocean

Interesting to note --
it is said that once krishna's very handsome son Samb played a prank on a saint by acting as a pregnant woman .
he hide a moosal( an iron thing use for grinding )inside cloth and asked the saint that if it was a boy or girl. the saint understood the prank and he curse him that this moosal will be the cause for the end of the yadvas.
so scared Samb throws that moosal into the sea where a fish swallow it and caught by a fisherman and he sold the moosal to ironsmith who used to make arrows. so yadvas dies fighting among themselves using those arrows and one arrow was with a hunter who aimed at krishna's feet thinking it deer.
