I liked your review. It's pretty much what i felt about my own film. This is just a response to a few comments from some people. Everybody has the right to say anything. I have noproblems with that. But what's the thing about middle class people talking in english. What's the problem with that?Middle class is a term used to denote people with regard to their financial capability right? My dad was middle class most of his life but he had excellent command of the english language and he could speak tamil and malayalam and hindi too but there was a lot of english used in his regular speech.And the milk man too has asked me many a time' enna sir, gate'le plastic cover vekka marandhateengala?"What's the big deal about that? I might not agree with the comment about style and substance too but i am in really no mood to argue.And yes i will dream on until i achieve the right balance between style and substance. Nothing wrong in dreaming right? It's been a dream come true to actually make a film itself and nothing wrong in dreaming on. And the film is not a remake of the film derailed, it's adapted from the book and the screenplay was written much before the hollywood version came out. Kamal sir knows that too because it was read out to him first actually. And i would rather make a film like this anyday than make something like pokiri...And brangan, good review man.. BTW, I am pretty happy with GM's reply on Thala's film. Looks like, we are going to see Thala in a script oriented + stylish film after a long time.

This is the 10th year since vaali got released. After a decade, I expect that magic to repeat again. I think GM's film will satisfy me or give me that feel once again. Let me see what he delivers. (No long haired villans please.... )

What vijay did might have been a foolish one, but venting out his frustration like this doesn't look good to me. Bala too commented in a similar way on Thala when he walked out of Nandha citing his own reasons.

two things here

first, it was not a suggestion by surya and, mind you, every smart director takes advantages of actors with image.

second, i fear you're missing the point he's trying to make. eg. take ramana, the film was build on vjkanth's image without going too extreme and the end result was remarkable. no vacuous punch dialogues, no kuthu songs, no vjkanth's usual antics.

similarly, goutham's done a wonderful job in the past in kaakakaaka, building the love scenes on surya's image. it was still an action film, but the love scenes were beautiful for an average cinegoer.

don't compare apples and oranges. he's not venting out his frustration as he mentions "there're lot of other actors" but rather voicing his annoyance that actors are still treading in water.

i don't give a toss about the comeuppance. Thala didn't talk about others but goutham has had words on a wide range of things, including actors. there's that difference. though we were proved wrong on many occasions, we are always ready and prepared to buy media's portrayal of vikram as having a knack for opting good scripts unless people like him divulge the behind the screen informations. informations revelaed about others were not surprising either. let's not entertain this topic any further

Sharat was wrong for the film – which, of course, we realised only after the film was released. The first person I narrated the script to was Kamal sir, but he passed. (This was before Derailed, the Hollywood film based on the same book, had even gone into production.) The next person I spoke to was Cheran. He loved the idea, but he couldn’t give dates for three months. Jyotika was getting ready for her marriage, so we had to think of an option. I gave a narration to Madhavan. He said he didn’t want to play the father of a six-year-old. Then I met Sharat casually somewhere. He said he was looking to change what he was doing. He said he wanted to do the kind of roles that Amitabh Bachchan is doing now. I said I had an idea. He said he’d do it.

From the films that he usually does, you wouldn’t immediately think of Sharat Kumar for this part.

I was surprised when I met him. He’s very different from the films he does – very suave, very good with English, very good personality. We were working on a small budget, so he readily slashed his price. I was directing him just like I wanted, breaking the image of how he was earlier presented. Then the comments started to come in from the discussion team – that a fight is needed, that something else had to be there. So we tweaked the script, and it went away. You shouldn’t do that. I should have just gone ahead and done what the script demanded. Also, the film was made when my father was dying, and I couldn’t balance this and that together. I was mentally affected. I wasn’t spending time with him. I had to shoot this. Pachaikili was released on February 16. My father passed away on the 14th. Sometimes, things just don’t go your way.

And it is not a tamil title. It should be false. Tax exemption kidaikaathu. Prabu won't take that risk. Gautham prefers pure tamil titles.

Has Ajit Approved Gautham Menon's Script?

The buzz is getting bigger as Ajit is being paired up with Gautham Menon in Sivaji productions new film.

The shoot of the film is likely to start in November, as Sivaji productions are very particular of an April 14, 2009 release.

Gautham had narrated a one-line script, which Ajit is said to have asked for some modifications. The writer-director is said to be re-writing the script, as Ajit is very keen to start work on the film in the first week of November.

Meanwhile there have been reports that Gautham is starting a Telugu film with Mahesh Babu, a police story to be produced by UTV. The picture gets hazy as the shoot of this film is also likely to start in January!

At the same time Sivaji Productions, a very professional outfit is pushing Ajit and Gautham to make an official announcement and launch the project.

Let us hope that there are no major hiccups in the offering, as Ajit and Gautham coming together means matinee magic.

Samira Reddy opposite Ajith ::IG !!!

Samira Reddy makes her debut in Kollywood through the film 'Vaaranam
Ayiram', directed by Gautham Menon starring Surya. Sameera Reddy has
worked with some of the best directors in Telugu, Hindi, Bengali and
her roles in 'Musafir' and the award –winning 'Kaal Purush' were
raved by critics. 'Vaaranam Ayiram' crew promises that we can see
more of her once the film hits the screens.

Samira Reddy has been roped in to feature opposite Ajith in a yet to
be titled movie which is produced by Sivaji Productions and Gautham
Menon wields the Megaphone.

This is the first time that Gautham and Ajit are coming together and
Gautham's chief marksman Harris Jayaraj is teaming up for Music to
stun in this film too, as the duo has never parted or fallen short of
expectations.

The movie would go to the floors on second of November soon after
Ajith's 'Aegan' gets released on October 28.

Gautham Menon goes Telugu

Gautham Menon will be directing a Telugu film featuring Mahesh Babu. The film that is yet to be titled, is expected to be an action-packed entertainer in which the star Mahesh Babu would play the role of an encounter cop.

Gautham had earlier directed 'Gharsana', the Telugu remake of 'Khaaka Khaaka' starring Venkatesh in the lead.

Meanwhile, the popular director of Tamil cinema has completed 'Vaaranam Ayiram' starring Suriya and would commence his next starring Ajith and Sameera Reddy from this November.

Sources close to Gautham Menon said his movie with Ajith would be a racy film but not the typical of Gautham Menon's style. It would be quite different from the run-of-the-mill stuff."

You r right. Mirattal is simple & catchy. Going by the Goutham's naming practice for his flicks, I don't think Suranggani is the title.

Director Madhesh who churned out the Vijay flick 'Madura' is all set to team up with Ajith for a film titled 'Thalaivan'. Though 'Madura' went on to be a commercial success, Vijay fans felt there was something missing. This reportedly has wedged a wall of professional silence between Vijay and the director.

Madhesh however went on to direct Vijayakanth in the film 'Arasangam' which was well received by the public. Buzz is that Madhesh wanted to team up with Vijay once again but then has met with stony silence from the other end. This probably made the director approach Ajith. The actor fondly called 'Thala' by his fans is reportedly happy with the story and has given a go-ahead to Madhesh.

In all probability, once 'Aegan' is released, work on 'Thalaivan might start. Reports also suggest that Madhesh is currently abroad scouting for locations to film the song sequences.

When every actor tastes success, they are referred to as Thalaivan in publicity materials and by fans. Interestingly, the name 'Thalaivan' may be used as the title of a film for the first time. Something Ajith fans would simply love.

I know I am expecting a lot. Ajith has the perfect star base to start experimenting in such movies from now on. Why do we need songs in a gangster setting?. Audiences are maturing and more expecting these days. Younger generation heroes la mudhal muraya ippadi oru padathula nadicha perumai namakku kedaikumae. And for all your worries, you have aegan which should have everything the Mass needs.

In a business point of view. When was the last ajith movie which has shot the producer's hand ?? . If the movie isn't sold for high prices he is the winning horse as of now. He is known as an director's actor and a very considerable gentleman when it comes to money matters involving producers. Appdiyae ponaalum samalathai thiruppi kodutharalam. Its high time we start getting more critical acclaim. If the movie is made in a minimal amount say 10-15, or say even 20 crores I am sure that the dividends is more. I strongly disagree. This is not the time for experimentation esp when Aegan is not expected by many. Audiences have not matured enough to accept these movies from mass heroes. It is true that thala will get name for trying different things. However, at the end of the day - songs play a vital role in movie's success. Even KSR opposed kamal for this idea. Thala hasn't given consecutive blockbusters.

Agree with everything. Again it depends on the movie and how people perceive it. Just imagine Aazhwaar & kireeom. I am not saying that this movie will go that way. But padam nalla illena yaaru irunthalum padam flop aagum.

imo critical acclaim >>>>>>>>>>> bb's. For me I want AJith to be recognized as a very good actor rather than a mass hero or a star. Actors, roles and good movies are remembered more than bb's and hero's & stars. I give a damm to audiences who are stuck with formulaic movies. I just don't care. and goutham doesnt add songs that are there just for the sake of it (ex, intro song in kreedam )

It's just a name of a woman (like Saroja) and the meaning is "Angel" or something closer to that. I dont think it's a pure Singhalese word. Sanskrit or Paali mix irukkumnu nenenkiREn. Not sure though.

I don't remember any scene where Ajith has spoken a single abusive word.Even in varalAru,they kept it low.(the sex-related thing).I seriously don't expect something like wtf from thala.Let it be the villains who do all that.

Couldn't agree with you more. But the benchmark will be high for Gautham. Most of the thala fans and general audience take Vaali as the benchmark. That is a great performance from thala. Most of the general audience still keep that as his best performance. Will GM be able to give a different dimension and surpass that ?

He doesnt have too much of originality.....he gets inspiration (atta copy) from a lot of foreign movies.

But GM's biggest strength lies with presentation and playing to the strengths. His presentation style is not at all monotonous. The presentation purely depends on the hero. He is extremely good at taking advantage of the image of the hero and present the movie aptly. He also gets the best out of the team (Actors, MD, CMG, SA, etc).

Take the case of minnale, kakka kakka, VV and PKMC. The way maddy, surya, kamal and sarath were presented were totally refreshing and different from each other. He uses the basic image of the hero and adds his style to it. He never takes risks with the basics....bcos he knows very well that he is not that good to give an image make-over for the hero.

So i am sure that he will take advantage of THALA's image and present it in a powerful way.

Baradwaj rangan's reviews also illustrate this point. He calls GM as a semi-masala director. Hence, he can strike a balance based on the hero. But how far he can present a different thala is questionable. We cannot be sure on this. But songs, picturisation, style and intensity would be great. Karka Karka was mindblowing. Same goes to few fights in VV. "Adi ovvonnum thalayilae vizhunthathu". Not to forgot how he handled the romance b/w kamal and kamalini.

Second category is little confusing and I agree with that. I categorised it based on BO as well as how others' feel about a movie. Kireedom, Attagaasam and Ji are not liked by all ajith fans. At the same time, they don't hate these movies also.

Grapevine is abuzz with rumours that Ajith would play a don in his forthcoming venture to be directed by Goutham Menon.

Another young film maker Suresh ( Junior Senior fame) is now turning hero after registering the title Surangani, and is in no mood to gift the title to Gautham. Meanwhile it has also been reported that Mani Ratnam who had tentatively given the title Asokavanam to his Tamil version of Hindi Ravana, will not be getting the title. Apparently, a popular Tamil director had already registered the same title months before, for a film he plans to do with his son! The latest buzz is that Mani Ratnam has asked for another title Vanavasam, which is also said to be registered by someone else! sam anderson..no script in hand..but after listening to athiradee, he likes the song and the catchy name..he quickly registers the name as 'athiradeekaran' and hope to direct a film with that name someday...

Next day oscar ravi calls shankar and wants him to make a film for him with rajni...Shankar comes up with a rocking script and everyone liked it...Since the screenplay is a good as SPEED, shankar and co decided to name it athiradee karan..everyone loved the title....Shankar got to know that sam has already registered the title...

What Corleone said is true. I never thought GM will go this low. Many of the hubbers referred to the movie SEVEN while discussing on KK sometime back.

Hope GM doesn't remake Godfather with Thala (based on the one liner that came in sify) and project it as a "NEW" movie

U r right abt the climax part.....but i can give u a list of other movies from which GM inherited a lot of sequences for KK.
IMO there are 2 differences between "remake" Raja and GM.
Raja copies from tollywood....but GM copies from elsewhere in the world.
Raja takes one movie at a time and presents it in tamil......but GM gets "inspiration" from 5-6 foreign movies for making one tamil movie.

Generally most of the "xerox" directors in kollywood copy from hollywood and other english movies.....but GM's main catchment areas are spanish, german and french movies.....so it gets hard for us to catch him red handed.

Remake raja has been extremely successful in pulling audience to the theaters....there are umpteen number of directors who have tried xeroxing and failed miserably.
Only a very few xerox directors are successful (Ex. ARM, GM, Raja, etc).....so there is nothing wrong in copying or xeroxing as long as they come up with an exciting movie which is successful at the BO.

Another important point is that we have a real bonus in the form of THALA....u mentioned pokiri and movies from remake raja.....in most of the remade movies u wud notice that the lead actors also COPY the style/mannerism/performance from the original version......but THALA stands aprt from them.
Whether it is a remake or not we would surely get to see an ORIGINAL and UNIQUE performance from THALA.
And personally as a THALA fan i would love to see THALA's performance in remakes of commercially successful films.

I'll be worried only when THALA starts getting inspired (copy) from other actors.

I want the producers - Sivaji productions to release an AD in the print media announcing the shooting officially. Thala films never had this in the past. At least, one or two stills from the photo shoot should be released to the media

Yes for Billa Official launch was there, but stills ellam veliya vidala... I beleive Billa Launch happened where Kireedom Shooting was going on, so I think thala wudn't have had time to go for a Photo Shoot!!

GM will try to satisfy everybody. I hate his style of showing violence on screen (Long haired villans speaking in his voice and freely using chennai language with an alien touch). Only the romance part will be a relief to the family audience. I would be lot more satisfied if he takes care of all these things, without just concentrating on shocking the audience through violent scenes.

Ajith’s make over for Gautham Menon

The Ultimate star Ajith is nearing his half century. The actor is looking forward to his 50th film. However, the project is yet to be finalized as the star has not yet decided on a director. Meanwhile, he has been signed up by Sivaji Films to star in a film that is to be directed by Gautham Menon.

Ajith’s make over for Gautham Menon

The Ultimate star Ajith is nearing his half century. The actor is looking forward to his 50th film. However, the project is yet to be finalized as the star has not yet decided on a director. Meanwhile, he has been signed up by Sivaji Films to star in a film that is to be directed by Gautham Menon.
While Ajith has done a lot of workout to increase his body mass for Aegan, the new project requires him to reduce all the weight that he has gained. It now seems that Ajith is busy working out a strategy to shed off the gained weight soon.

I was 90 Kgs in April 2006.... Gym ku work out panna aarambitchen, semma diet so within 60 days my weight was reduced to 67 Kgs....

Its a DON/ROWDY story by Gautham. For sure it won't be a funny masala one Gautham's flavour is no-nonsense and serious like Vishnu style.

Just now I made a call to sivaji productions to knw the real status. This wat i spoke:

Me:I heard that sivaji productions gonna make movie with ajith n gowtham is that true?

they said yes.

Me: I saw in certain magazines and newspapers that dharani gonna direct ajith with sivaji productions and its not gowtham.

they said nothin lik that and project with gowtham is 200% confirmed.

They said til movie name is not finalized but before they were tryin to keep surangani and now searching for new title.
