In few scenes, I couldn't see SatyaRaj. But Upendra's mannerisms in stayaraj style. His acting is the worst and I am not sure whether he had done any other film like this.

To me, writing a intriguing screenplay for a strong storyline is relativley easier than writing a gripping screenplay for an "age-old" one line rehased story line! This is where the movie stands tall!
It is one of the best screenplays for a pucca commercial entertainer! Every little role/characters in the movie had a sense of purpose!

. Highlight Dialaak from the film is, Kamal asking Pasupathy nee naasthigaana . All these little things makes a kamal movie special, well atleast for me .

Story of identical twins getting separated is an age-old MGR formula.... Remember watching this movie during '89 summer holidays with group of friends! Mind you, the theatre was sheer carnival... Lot's of whistles, excitement, hustle & bustle in the theatre! In fact, I went 3-4 weeks after release! I still remember when Aanadavar delivers a dialogue "En? thirukural kooda thaan 2 adi.. aana adhulla ethana vishayam irrukku..." there was a ear deafening applause! There where "Once More" shouts for "Anatha Adurar othikoo" song! It is one of the best screenplays for a pucca commercial entertainer! Every little role/characters in the movie had a sense of purpose!

The director was concerned on one thing only. What happens when a person who likes to be among family/friends was kept in lonely place. that is it. And it not that everyone will be affected with mental pressure. that too it was told by doctor, that Sneha was more depressed than the normal. And he even did not talk about joint family. Other than that whatever study/ education we do and we go for an excellent job if we are not with our family we miss something. But the feeling will be there with 95 % of the people. |

Not impressed with songs... only 1 or 2 is there in my mind.
He had done a OK job. Is he overrated ? If this is a historical novel, then what happened the fundamental elements ! It is filled with dialogues, scenes etc that we have seen in hindi cinema before a long time. At one point of time, I felt like watching a VISU film Looks like a drama at times. It keeps on going and going without any interesting things.

First and foremost, I think the critique of the family patriarch comes off rather well in the film. Another interesting bit is how the writers "link" the presence of a patriarch to that of "dual lives." Not just Santhosh (whose double life, the film deals with, quite elaborately), but everyone in the family is obviously shown that way. Of course, the innocent, playful angel coming into a family of rather sullen faces is an age-old trope, but the film doesn't stop there. Here, more Santhosh wants his love to win over his family, more patriarchal he becomes. Beyond a point, when he's "reduced" to do nothing but control Genelia (which, very interestingly, he can do only when he's "outside" his home) to conform to some normative sort of "discipline" that his father would approve of, she walks out. I haven't seen Human Condition (I will soon, thanks to you). As for Ivan's Childhood, I don't think it is a victim's tale. Ivan is not exactly a victim from the losing side. Neither are the soldiers. But, it is probably the most neutral film I have seen about second world war. Dispassionate and absolutely beautiful (as are all Tarkovsky movies). |
