Vairamutthu always does a fair job for Rajni... maybe he might have had the chance to do the opening song for thalaivar... it would have been more powerful or he would have given a different thought on the theme of the song... am not sayin that mutthukumar did bad... he has done a good job... but i would prefer Vairamutthu for the opening song... |

Vairamuthu is,sorry was a good lyricist. He was still he didnot enter the facet of a party.I'm not biased or something like that against this man.His writing is as always good, even in sivaji, but not poetic. As always vairamuthu is as usual writing lyrics not a poem.so this discussion can only be upto the level of appreciating the sense of the poet, not the poetic corner of things.I don't mean that the song should be composed as if the common man cannot get things right.i mean there is no VM of "Mannil intha kaadhalanri....." ,"Pani vizhum malarvanam....."or even "Megangal ennai thottu ponathundu......" VM in Sivaji. This is purely MHO.Not bad word of mouth. Venki sir, I am really enlighted with your post, I never knew lyricst and Poet are 2 different thing as far as Cinema is concerned. Vali's athiraadee poetico? umm interesting. If you minus Vairamuthu, Na Muthu kumar ,Let us put them in Lyricst Gang . It leave us with Vaali - I personally fell He can't be / shouldn't be compared to anyone - He is a living legend. If I walk your path, Looks like I am able to see only one Great Poet in Tamil Filim Industry , Thatz our Great T.R "Thaati Pathen cotangoche" Madree yan Thuya Tamizhla sella padalgalai.. yazluthevar (just kidding) |

Right, but the point is that in adukku thodar, a word that makes sense by itself gets repeated; but in iRattai kiLavi, the snippet that gets repeated makes no sense by itself. But think abt this: the concept that Shankar would have said is one of an image (a hologram) that cannot exist without the original. VM gave us all a great grammar lesson while conveying he above concept. Regards, LL |

It is not a Q of stating that only paruthi veeran is world class. When realistic films like veyyil, kaadhal, mozhi etc,. have done well, a film like sivaji comes (throwing logic to the winds) which sets things back. Another pertinent point mentioned is the no. of cinema halls mentioned. U guys have taken it personal just bcos it happens to be a rajini film. Bcos here rajani cannot/should not be criticised. If someone does that, he is jealous, tamil traitor etc., according to rajini fans. |

smith1, I have read that Rajni usually used to have more dancers in the songs, even though it may not be necessary all the time. In small budget movies, usually you see only hero and heroines in the song. small budget, you make in 3 months. sivaji took more than a year, its equal to 3 small budget movies, in terms of employment to people. |

First of all, Sivaji does not 'set things back' because no one is trying to keep track of the overall quality. 'Transformers' did not set back Hollywood; 'Harry Potter' did not set back the English Literary world. If you read reviews in the US/UK, they just review a work within its GENRE , dont try and compare it outside its genre. For eg., while giving an Oscar to Capote, they dont put down Transformers or Ghostriders, like the ulcer parties do in TN. And the "indie" or Oscar-winning movies either stay out of the way of the summer blockbusters or release in speciality theatres. That is the way. They accept reality. Nasser himself would take his family to watch Spiderman or Harry Potter, not Capote. Regards, LL |

It is not that only "arty" films get the oscars. Only tamil cinema is trying to give meningful cinema. Then comes sivaji. It is mainly the budget that is the point. No one made this point when CM became a very big hit. U must understand that. |

As everyone from the distributors to the theatre owners are frequently visiting the Bank, full of smiles. Public Talk: Shankar has given what the fans wanted, entertainment. Rajini charisma and style has been utilized to the most and topping this will be an uphill task. Family audience who are flocking the theatres are a little unhappy about the excess glamour quotient. veekeySivaji - The Boss
Sivaji The Boss The Boss (Rajni) is back. Not just with bang, while along with all those thumps and whacks which make him not only just the biggest superstar India has ever seen but also the second highest paid Asian after some Mr. Chan. I had been acquainted with the fact more than once before watching any Rajni movie: that I must understand Tamil and I must be undoubtedly a Rajni fan. I unapologetically say neither. Nonetheless, I wanted to watch the latest offering of Director Shankar, Musician A.R. Rehman and domineeringly Rajni himself. I was very much aware of the fact that Chopras have got their own product inanely called Jhoom Barabar Jhoom to flaunt the very same date. And that made me more than convinced to go for Sivaji. Cuz I am dreadfully ailing and fatigued of watching Chopras and Johars and to top it sick of watching loud-mouthed Bachchans in those deafeningly unsound craps. Give me Amitabh with something like Black and Cheeni Kum and I am game. Apart from that, keep him away. And what with ever loud and noisy Abhishek, Preity, Bobby and Lara as part dishes. Sivaji was alternative I thrived upon. Coming to Sivaji, to sum it in short the movie in simpler idioms is whole n whole a time pass, a good entertainer, and unquestionably a treat for hard core Rajni fans. So what if it isnt grand its made out to be to start with. Fans are having fun. Directors, distributors, producers et al are reaping huge returns from it. The movie deals with any day corruption of our daily livings highlighting the role bribe plays to get your job done. Sivaji in a role of a 30+ America returned Indian loaded with ready money accepts this fact deeply rooted in our culture with utmost guilt and apprehension. However he plays along till he loses all he ever owned. Once on the streets, he tosses the very coin his detractor lent him the day Sivaji got bankrupt. And he positions himself on the path of violence and brutality till he recovers all. Running parallel is a love story with Shriya, naughtiness with his accomplice Vivek, and impromptu song sequences. The cinematography by Thota is world class. He surely rocks in showcasing those opulent and lavish sets. However, I wish Thota should have shown the same brilliance in the whole movie. He just got to parade them in songs. Still, nothing taking away from him, he is definitely the best cinematographer we have right now. Mind, I am not saying one of the best, Cuz he is the best. Nitin C Desai, hope you are listening. And what to say of our A.R. Rehman? Do we need to close him off in mere words every time we talk of him? He is a brain myth is all about (I know most would find it thorny to grasp the sentence which I just used for him with brain and myth and all that)? Never mind, in trouble-free remark, he is genius. I wont say this is his best work, yet none of his is. He always has something diverse and something singular lined up for all, be it some rickshawalla from Kolkata, or some social butterfly from Mumbai. Anyone and everyone rocks and rolls when Rehman is at job. Now, whats with that controversy surrounding the costumes and make up of our hero? Rajni, without any doubts looks energetic, youthful, bouncy and lively in role of Sivaji. Manish Malhotra says he has done the makeover for him barring the opening song sequence Ballelakha and Neeta Lulla says she contributed her labors to the song Ballelakha and not to any other song or scenes. So, Whats the hitch? You both are saying the same thing, only just in different lingo. Grow up you guys is all I would say. All right, all said and done this is not THE MOVIE of Rajni; he has done much better job in the past. The hype is all because he is Rajni and his movie comes once in two years, and you dont get to see him every third or fourth week like certain Mr. Bachchan. He has huge fan following which none, I say none from Bollywood or Tollywood or Mollywood can ever imagine and thats why his movies generate so much of excitement as we dont get to see him often. That provides enough justification to all hoopla neighboring this movie Sivaji I guess. I always end my reviews with implications to watch it or not to watch it; unlike I would say go by your instinct. And for me, I am waiting for Sultan, his next offering directed by none other than his own daughter. |

Rajnikanth mania has gripped the entire country with the release of Sivaji -The Boss. He is the highest paid actor in the countryYour take on him
I think he deserves to be the highest paid actor in the country. I've been a huge fan of Rajni for ages. I've loved his work. I've seen a couple of his Tamil films. I've seen a number of his Hindi films that he has done. I had the good fortune of working with him in a film called 'Aatank Hi Aatank'. The film in itself didn't have much to write home about. But the experience of working with someone like Rajnikanth was a wonderful experience. Not only is he a very charismatic actor, extremely magical actor, extremely charming personality on screen but even in real life he is as charming. Your heart goes out to him. He is a person who is a winner of hearts. He is not trying to win your heart. He is just being himself. That's the greatness of the man. He is a very nice human being and the camera catches that. Somehow it gets translated on to celluloid. He deserves to be the superstar that he is. |

When I struggling with so many problems, he was one who gave me the book "Living with the Himalayan Masters" which changed me completely. In short Rajini helped me discover myself.... looks llike sivaaji is on record creating\breaking saga! in this rare period, it would be great if the producer orsoe other authority comes up with an aggregation of all records pertaining to all locations in the world(!!) that would serve either ways, to put a fullstop to the fun makers(read northies) and also to make an assurance that records are factual, for those who may need detail.
when the movie(as by the reports in this forum)is creating some really new records, the old pathetic, boring and even irritatiing way of getting those sources from unknown portals\news sites and the retraitation of the same by fans and even by the producer[in some silly ads in thinathanti] shall be avoided atleast now. or else it will feed another session of debatable arguements. Some standardisation is needed on these systems or else these to-be-valid records will disappear in near future lets see if atleast now rajni & co joins the professional way [actually this applies to all films, some system shud be brought in to provide info on collections] |

let me make things clear. I was pointing that alot of rcord news are coming for sivaaji and everytime its different record and different sources. but there is no official word from producer.so i wished if rajni started doing the standardisation like bollywood and hollywood. This, i am almost repating in all my post. given that i say say this i cannot assure that my kamalhaasan and my oscar ravi will reveal their collections. and they are not mines, and being said, i say this on rajni becos its for his film that we get different words on records, rite, then he shud do it. leave collections, let the producer take the effort and publish a list of records, even without collections. let me see if they do this. how can selling dasa for high price an acto of ego????u expect that always rajni films shud take lead and others not to ask more than a rajini films's price??? afterall its a meare amount just for indicative purposes! kamal, atleast, does standardisation in other departments and always yells that he siglehandedly says that he cannot systemize the whole industry and all has to try that. he ATLEAST says that. and b4 avm, its Oscar Ravi who went to bank for fundings of anniyan. so he tries to become systematic at source level. surely better than others!!! |

omega,
let me make things clear. |

Atleast if some commission basis (like selling airline tickets) or publicity company making ppl watch movie, then they can get money. Here for nothing why to fight over money(that some x,y,z got crore profit) as if we got paid or getting paid. Wonder if we really got paid what we would do? That was the point ![]() |

The act of copying or imitating cannot be copyrighted to any person in film industry. Rajini copied some of the stuff (esp lighting cigar) from Clint Eastwood (western movies) and at that time ppl dint have media or awareness to see those stuff or no one complained about it. So as Simbu said Rajini itself mentioning (with his consent thru someone like vivek) in his movie (when he itself copied) is not correct.
Only thing ppl can do is to improvize the act (like Rajini did) and make it unique and different. |
