An Arsenal fan in soccer-mad Kenya hanged himself wearing his beloved team's shirt after their defeat to Manchester United in the Champions League.
Like elsewhere across Africa, Kenyans pack bars for English Premier League and Champions League matches, especially those involving Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool. Suleiman Omondi, 29, was found hanged at his home in a middle-class Nairobi estate shortly after leaving distraught from the pub where he had watched Arsenal lose 3-1 in their Champions League semi-final at the Emirates on Tuesday. "He took some drinks and broke down in tears within the final minutes of the match," a fellow bar patron, who asked not to be named, told Reuters. Police said they were called to Omondi's house on Wednesday morning. "What we are gathering is this suicide is related to the Arsenal and Manchester match," local Embakasi area police chief David Bunei told reporters. Bar attendants said they had to intervene after Omondi lunged at a man who suggested Arsenal would not recover from conceding two early goals. They also lost the first leg 1-0. Brawls are common in Kenya during football matches and there have been other related suicides reported in the past. |

Actually they wunt make much of a difference as Alves has problems backtracking(park or rooney will counter him) and abidal is quite error prone. I have a feeling ferguson will put ronaldo and berbatov/tevez upfront with rooney and park on the wings. carrick and giggs/anderson in midfield. No prizes for guessing the back four. |

Horrible refereeing overall, but that's expected. Referees don't have instant replays and they have to make decisions within seconds.
The last handball wasn't deliberate, more like borderline handball. The ball looked like it hit his shoulder with no 'intent' to use his arm in an illegal fashion. That said Abidal's red card was a joke. |

Arshavin wrote: |
Q: You were in terrific form this April...
A: And that's probably why i fell ill - when I played for Zenith club doctors told me that when a player hits his peak he is most vulnerable, because his immune system is weakened. Q: Are you going to recover soon? A: I plan to, but we'll see. I would really like to play in the next match, since it' s going to be interesting - it's an away game against MU. Q: Will this game be of special importance after your defeat in the CL semifinal, or on the contrary, no one is going to really care anymore? A: After the semifinal our players were very disappointed, depressed even. And Manchester showed some fantastic football on the "Emirates". So it should be very interesting to play against such a strong opposition, and secondly, we have something to prove both to them and to ourselves. Q: Is it even possible to defeat that Manchester that we've seen on the Emirates? A: You have to find the opposition's weak points to do that, which is difficult, since on the surface they don't have any. They've got a very good goalkeeper, probably the best defense in the world, excellent attacking players - Rooney, Berbatov, and especially Ronaldo. The Portuguese means a lot for this team - leave him out and MU will be much weaker. Q: Are you satisfied with the results of the second CL semifinal? A: Everyone now blames the referee, who in fact had formal grounds to give a penalty. But I think he did the right thing - he didn't act against the spirit of the game, he didn't kill off the intrigue that kept the viewers of this spectacle in suspense till the very last second. It's not about Barcelona's victory, it's about 90 minutes of outstanding football. Had Chelsea managed to hold the score, it would be just as good. But a penalty would have stripped this game of any interest. Q: But doesn't this mean that the referee acted more in the spirit of show than in the spirit of football? A: No, it was just that he understood the game that way. It just happened that the red came up four times in a row, but such things happen in roulette as well. At least I didn't notice any bias in his judgments. Q: Maybe he wasn't biased but he was definitely unqualified. Didn't you feel sorry for Hiddink who was essentially robbed of victory? A: I perfectly understand how shocked Guus and his team were in the 93-rd minute. And how beautiful a story it could be had Hiddink won the CL after just three months in Chelsea. Of course i can't but sympathize in this situation, but it happens, that's life. Q: Now back to your Arsenal career. Now every time the name Arshavin is mentioned people first and foremost remember your four goals against Liverpool. Everything else is shadowed by this. Do you feel the same? A: Well it's natural that these goal have shadowed everything, and everyone around keeps talking about them. But by setting such a high standard I only made my task in Arsenal more interesting - now I must work harder so that those four goals didn't remain the only thing Arsenal supporters would remember me for, so that there would be other high points in my career of a "gunner". Q: You always keep saying, that you are ready to trade any personal achievement for the victory of your team. Would you trade 4:4 in Liverpool for 0:1 without your name on the score sheet? A: No, it just wouldn't be a fair trade. To trade two points that were of absolutely no importance for such a bright game that will be remembered for years to come? And it's important for Arsenal that player Arshavin would settle in the team as soon as possible, and nothing can speed up this process more than a game like this. That's why my four goals were more valuable for the club than two points. Q: After these goals you've become a fan favorite. A: I think the fans supported me from my very first Arsenal game. Q: But now you are one of the leaders of the team. A: No, I'm not a leader yet. Fans probably focus on me a bit more, but it means nothing yet. Q: And your status within the team hasn't changed? A: No, at least I didn't notice that. Q: And would your captaincy be possible without those goals? A: I hope yes, the goals are not the only thing that determines the coach's trust. Q: Is this trust inspiring? A: If you mean the captain's arm band - it's not particularly important. The main thing for me is to always be in the starting 11. Q: To secure a place in the starting 11 one must perfectly understand his partners on-pitch. I think you interact best with Fabregas and Adebayor. Am I right? A: As for Adebayor we practically didn't play together. There was just one game when both me and him were starting. We even joked that some higher power is against us being on the pitch at the same time. In that game we indeed interacted well, but to know whether it was just luck or not we have to play a few matches together. And as for Fabregas - anyone will find it easy to link up with him - he's got excellent vision and will always pass when necessary. And his passes are always very accurate. Q: Who do you spend the most time with off the pitch? A: I try to get on with all the players, to get used to the team more quickly, but I probably talk with Bendnter and Eboue a bit more often. Q: It looks like you are settling in well. In the last few games you started to give commands to your teammates, just like in Zenit. A: I wouldn't call it commanding. I'm just used to behaving on the pitch this way. Some of the gestures I make are just reflectory. Q: But in the first game you tried to suppress you reflexes - there were no such gestures. A: In the first few games I tried to play simpler, and now it's time to play my football, the football that I like and am used to. Q: Is there anything in "your" football that has changed in the last three months. A: It's hard to say. So far I can't get used to the idea that I can be a left winger, and my position confuses me, to be honest. And I can't understand whether everything seems fine because God helps me or maybe I am really this good on the left wing. Had I played a left striker, I wouldn't have any questions, but midfield... However, I enjoyed the last few games, because I did what I wanted, and not what my fitness would allow me to do. Q: And Wenger allows you to do anything you want? A: It's more like the opposition does. In my latest games we would score an early goal and played for fun afterwards. ![]() Q: Can you reveal any secrets of training process in Arsenal? What is the difference between Arsène's and Hiddink's trainings? A: I'm afraid to disappoint your but there are no global differences in the training process. Q: When one's club's season is virtually over, and the points are no longer important, can one focus on the personal stats? A: When you're playing football, in those few seconds that decide an episode, you don't have the time to think about your personal stats. Though it's more fair to say that there are players who are always concerned with their personal stats, but if you're not one of them, it's hard to make this switch fast. Q: What EPL sides you played against impressed you most? A: The top clubs - Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester, against which I only played for Zenit so far. Q: And what about players? A: I was really impressed by Fernando Torres, as well as Kuyt and Benayoun in Liverpool. In Chelsea's game against us Drogba and Malouda were the stand-out players for me. In Manchester it would be Ronaldo. And they also have very good defenders, especially Evra. Q: This April you beat all of them and became the Barclay's player of the month. How important is this for you? A: Of course it's very pleasing, but such awards are not particularly important. Q: When you went to England, you probably had certain plans for your first season. Did you accomplish what was planned? A: My main goal for those four months was to assure that Arsenal would finish in the top four. When I arrived the task didn't seem easy, but, thank God, we succeeded. As for personal plans they weren't about the number of goals or assists, they were about learning if I was able to play in the EPL. Q: And what do you feel now, are you able to play in England? A: Sometimes yes, and sometimes no. Maybe it again boils down to my unusual position on the left wing. A: To solve this problem I can suggest Arsenal to buy one more Russian player - I know of one very good left winger. Q: If you mean Zhirkov, I know him quite well too (smiles). The question is whether Yuri would like to leave Russia. |

Former Manchester United captain Steve Bruce last night warned Carlos Tevez and Cristiano Ronaldo that they will be making a huge mistake if they leave Old Trafford.
Striker Tevez is on his way out of United - with Liverpool and Manchester City watching developments - when his two-year loan deal expires at the end of the season, while Ronaldo looks increasingly likely to be granted his dream move to Real Madrid. But ahead of tonight's visit of the Barclays Premier League champions to the JJB Stadium, Wigan boss Bruce said: 'Once you leave Old Trafford you find it very difficult. Not many have gone on to do well elsewhere, whether they have been a reserve or have been there for 10 years. It's very difficult to adjust. Sir Alex Ferguson has to be the No 1 manager of all time.' |

Masch.. hmm.. He's a good player but he has been mediocre this season (by his standards). The form he shown last season was one of the main reasons why Rafa wanted to sell Xabi during the summer.
He's invaluable to us. But he was largely anonymous in most of the games this season. I think he's a bit fatigued after coming from olympics. |

I feel you guys are making a mistake by taking away adebayor. He was the most dangerous player against Manutd when we lost home and away in 06/07 and was the best player last season for you guys. His height and his silky skills(not to mention hold-up play) will be very useful against alot of teams.
If you stick with eduardo you will have problems against teams that love to close down in the midfield and eduardo though a better finisher is nowhere near adebayor in terms of hold-up play. And he is short which will have problems against the aerially-strong teams. |

The Gunners have not won anything since 2005, but team boss Wenger called on supporters to rally behind his team.
"If we do not deliver in one or two years I will be responsible," said the Frenchman, whose contract runs to 2011. "It is the most important moment in the life of this club and we have to be strong now and support this team." Wenger was speaking at a question and answer session with Arsenal shareholders at the Emirates Stadium. Questions for such events usually have to be pre-submitted, but on this occasion the floor was open and the Arsenal manager was involved in a couple of heated exchanges with disgruntled supporters. Having overseen a fourth consecutive season without silverware, he faced some fierce scrutiny over his transfer policy, team selection and tactics. The 59-year-old made an impassioned defence of his players, hit out those who have taken to haranguing them at home games and was particularly stung by claims they lack the stomach for a battle. "It is the easiest thing to sit in the stands and say they are not good enough, that they do not fight," said Wenger. "It is always that negative way of thinking, that the players do not care. "We are playing in the best league in the world and you do not go 21 games unbeaten if you do not stand up and fight. "What these players have done this year in a negative environment shows they can stand up for their own responsibilities. "At the moment what this team needs is the support of the fans. I must say there is a massive difference between the away fans, who are absolutely fantastic, and the home fans." One shareholder was applauded for expressing a desire to see striker Emmanuel Adebayor - scorer of 30 goals last season and 16 this term - sold in the summer. "Adebayor is a great player and has done fantastically well for the club," Wenger responded. "He was the most sought-after player last year - all the big clubs wanted him and it will be the same again. "When we bought him nobody knew him and he became a great player. Players are quickly singled out and you realise how good a player is when they have gone. "At this level, when players don't do well it's because they've lost their confidence. The only way to help a guy who has lost confidence is to help him again and again. But by slaughtering him you don't help him." Wenger reacted angrily to a suggestion that 31-year-old defender Mikael Silvestre was a "geriatric". ![]() "I cannot accept that you speak about the players of your club like that," he said. "You are attacking the players and that is much worse [than attacking me]." While confirming that Arsenal would be bolstering their squad in the forthcoming transfer window, Wenger dismissed concerns over the quality of his current crop. "If tomorrow we say we have to sell the players do you want to know how many clubs would want to sign them?" said Wenger, referring specifically to Alexandre Song, Abou Diaby and Theo Walcott. "They have a huge value and if they go somewhere else, in two or three years you will say to me 'why did you let them go?'. "They are great players and they will show you that they are great players. "We are going in the right track and everyone at the club is convinced we are doing the right thing. "If we do not get there next year or the year after then you can say this was not the right way." Arsenal reached the FA Cup and Champions League semi-finals and, provided they come through a qualifying round, will contest Europe's premier club competition for a 12 successive season next term after guaranteeing fourth place in the Premier League. The revenues from their 60,000-seater stadium have placed them among the world's richest clubs and Wenger is optimistic. "This season has not been disastrous at all," he added. "One day you will look back and say it was not as bad as people thought. "But the most important thing is that, structure-wise, the club is in a fantastic situation. "We have built a massive new stadium and maintained this club at the top, top level in Europe and I'm very proud of that. The future of this club is great." |

ROME, May 26 (Reuters) - A look at the formations, strengths and weaknesses of Barcelona and Manchester United ahead of the Champions League final at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico (1845 GMT) on Wednesday:
FORMATIONS: It would be a big surprise if Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola strays from the club’s traditional, offensive 4-3-3. Manchester United are less tied to a set formation. Manager Alex Ferguson has frequently used the 4-3-3 to good effect, but if he decides to field Ji-sung on the right he may opt for a 4-4-2. STRENGTHS With a three-pronged strike force of Lionel Messi, Samuel Eto’o and Thierry Henry, backed by the creativity of Andres Iniesta and Xavi in midfield, the Spanish champions have unrivalled attacking potential. Iniesta’s stoppage-time equaliser in the semi-final second leg at Chelsea showed they are also a team that never gives up. The English champions have an outstanding defence, are a more complete package overall and have that little bit of extra quality on the bench. They can also count on the cunning and experience of Ferguson, arguably the finest brain in world soccer, as well as the determination and confidence the Scot instils in the team. WEAKNESSES Barcelona have compensated for fragility in defence this season with their sparkling goal feats, but suspensions to full backs Eric Abidal and Dani Alves and the injury that has ruled out Rafael Marquez leave them looking vulnerable. They also tend to struggle when Messi and Iniesta are kept under control and Guardiola’s inexperience may be exposed when pitted against master tactician Ferguson. United have shown few weaknesses this season, although they do have less invention than Barca in midfield. DEFENCE Guardiola will be forced to field a makeshift defence because of suspensions and injuries, which risks aggravating his side’s problems with loose marking, especially at set-pieces. Versatile captain Carles Puyol is tipped to move across to the right flank with Yaya Toure used again at centre back and another converted midfielder, Seydou Keita, taking Abidal’s place on the left. United’s defence should be at full strength with Rio Ferdinand expected to shake off a calf problem to take his place in the centre alongside Nemanja Vidic. Frenchman Patrice Evra, rated one of the top left backs in the world at the moment, is likely be called upon to stop Messi. United keeper Edwin van der Sar has had a fine campaign and went 14 league matches without conceding a goal between November and February, but Barca’s Victor Valdes has not been immune from the occasional error. MIDFIELD Iniesta’s ability to shake off a knock will be key to Barca’s chances as they are not the same team without the man who’s goal against Chelsea put them in the final. If Sergio Busquets is employed as the holding midfielder he will need to show maturity beyond his 20 years to avoid being overawed by the occasion. United may have a tad less inspiration in centre of the park, but Park Ji-sung’s bottomless energy and Michael Carrick’s ability to read the game could swing the match by suffocating the Catalan’s sources of play. Ryan Giggs is favourite to come in for the suspended Darren Fletcher with Anderson likely to complete the midfield. ATTACK United’s defence will need to be at its formidable best to keep out Messi, Eto’o and Henry, who is expected to be fit after a knee problem. But the English side’s expected starting pair of England’s Wayne Rooney and Portugal’s World Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo also packs a punch. They also plenty of firepower in reserve, with Dimitar Berbatov and Carlos Tevez likely to be waiting their chance on the bench. |

Ronaldo is actually better than Messi. He is the dual dribbling version, either with pace or with tricks. And a much more complete player. If manutd's midfield had been more hungry the individual battle would have turned out differently. BTW Congrats to barcelona. Deserved to win the game. No excuses for us. |

There is nothing to be shocked about. Messi is quick footed with loads of pace to turn in and out like giggs, but much more agile and clinical. If you notice he does not tend to dribble well when faced with defenders like that of carvalho. Ronaldo is adept at dribbling with or without pace and is more notable for his close control and skills. Such players are more difficult to mark unless closed down with three players and more. |

KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 (Bernama) -- Local football fans, especially those who support English Premier League club Arsenal, would be presented with a chance to meet their manager Arsene Wenger in person, when he conducts a coaching clinic at Dataran Merdeka Tuesday.
The Gunners boss would conduct a 45-minute coaching clinic for the National Under-19 squad, Harimau Muda, coached by Ong Kim Swee, starting 11am tomorrow. According to Arsenal Fan Club president in Malaysia, K. Sukumar, Wenger would spend about 30 minutes to meet local fans after the session. The last time Wenger visited Malaysia was back in 1999 when the Frenchman led his side to a 2-0 victory here. The 60 year-old, who started his career as manager of AS Nancy-Lorraine from 1984-1987, AS Monaco (1987-1994) and Nagoya Grampus Eight (1995-1996) moved on to Arsenal in September 1996 and has remained the longest serving manager in the EPL. Since taking over Arsenal, Wenger has guided the Gunners to a double in the (1997/98) EPL season by winning the Premier League and FA Cup and repeated the same feat in the 2001/02 season. Arsenal has since remained a leading club in the EPL and finished the 2009 season in fourth place behind Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea. -- BERNAMA |

KUALA LUMPUR, July 4 — Billionaire Malaysian media mogul T. Ananda Krishnan is the man reportedly behind an £80 million (RM460.6 million) bid to buy English football club Newcastle United, according to The Sun newspaper in the United Kingdom.
The Sun reported that Ananda, who controls Maxis Communications, gaming group Tanjong plc, Measat and Astro, is closing in on the deal to end Mike Ashley’s nightmare two-year “Toon” reign. An official announcement on the deal is expected next week. The British tabloid said the deal represents loose change to the 71-year-old, who is Southeast Asia’s third richest man reportedly worth £4.5 billion. But as the deal has not been sealed, other consortia remain in the running to buy the crisis-hit club. The Sun said that Ananda is the favourite. All major newspapers in the UK reported this morning that a Malaysian consortium had submitted an £80m bid to Ashley for control of Newcastle United yesterday. The Malaysians were shown round St James’ Park on Thursday. Another consortium, from the United States, had been regarded as the favourite but when the Malaysians flew to London with Newcastle’s Managing Director Derek Llambias, that perception changed. Ashley reportedly wants £100 million for the club but is expected to accept the lower offer. Newcastle United will play its football in the Coca Cola Championship next season after being relegated from the English Premier League. Former club captain and England legend Alan Shearer took over as interim manager in April but failed to steer the club from the drop. Ananda is said to favour the Shearer’s permanent appointment as manager. The Malaysian tycoon was also reported to be ready to provide funds for the club’s transfer kitty in its bid to quickly rebound back to top-flight football. |

Hey Naveen.. ![]() I neither like him nor hate him!! But I respect him ![]() Well regarding the transfer activity, it looks as if this is a desperate signing, but it is not! Owen, if he is fit can score 15-20 a season.. (Last season he scored 10 goals from August to December).. Valencia is a proven player at BPL level so there's a minimum guarantee.. Obertan on the other hand is a hot prospect for the future, SAF can make him one of the supertsar just like the way he did to CR! ![]() And im sure he'll sign atleast 2 more players with one of them beign a big star.. |

Alexander Hleb has confessed that his move from Arsenal to Barcelona last year was a mistake he now regrets.
The 28-year-old confirmed he is unhappy in Catalonia despite his team's successes in the Spainish league and Europe last season. 'When you mostly sit on the bench, winning titles brings very little joy, while getting to the last eight of the Champions League with Arsenal was unforgettable,' said the Belarus winger. Please take me back: Alexander Hleb regrets leaving north London High hopes: Hleb after signing on at Barcelona 'I regret my move from London, but unfortunately nothing can be done about it now.' While Hleb feels he has been poorly treated by Nou Camp boss Pep Guardiola, he showered praise on former manager Arsene Wenger. 'For me, Wenger was like a father. I consider him one of the best managers in the world. 'For such a boss one wants to die on the pitch. Arsene managed to create a smashing team with a wonderful atmosphere inside of it. 'I have no doubts that if Arsenal had the same budget as Barcelona, the Gunners would be among the three best clubs on the planet.' Hleb is prepared to stick it out at Barca until the new year, but he has been offered to Inter Milan as part of the swap deal that should see Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic go in the opposite direction. |

I believe there is too much talent in this squad. Defense? Djourou-Gallas are as potent a combo as (similarly unproven then) Kolo-Sol were in Invincibles season. They could surprise people. Yet to see TV, so I can't compare. At his best, Song reminds me of Gilberto. He will come good. He could play CB. Denilson will improve. We need another name there. More so when Song leaves to ANC. Maybe TV will be the man, I'm not sure. But I'm positive about the season. |

Just because I kicked a bottle of water, I didn’t say a word to anybody. And it was quite a good kick." On Robin van Persie’s cancelled goal… "I didn’t kick the bottle because Gallas was not offside, but because I was disappointed. I thought we had equalised." On missing out on a penalty in the first half… "Maybe I’m not the most objective, but for me I believe it was a penalty in the first half. On the differences between Rooney’s and Eduardo’s penalties… "It will be a big difference tomorrow in the newspapers. I don’t know…I have not seen it, I do not want especially to see it. He kicked the ball to the corner flag, Rooney, and after - was he touched or not, was it a penalty or not – leave these decisions to the referee." On the frustration of not getting any points from the match… "Football is unpredictable. I believe in this team we lack some calmness, maturity and experience when we were in moments where we were not under panic at all. We assessed wrongly two situations. The first one, Rooney was no danger to score, there was no need to panic. And on the second one as well. There was not one player of Man United around our players. So it’s lack of communication and still little bit I feel in these situations that we might be lacking a little bit of experience." On the missed opportunities at 1-0… "We couldn’t finish the game off. You play at Old Trafford you get 1-1 of course. And any mistake and then you’re down. We had the chances to kill this game and even to come back to 2-2." |

'I must be the frontman at Arsenal. The player who is always in a position to receive the bal and who decides when we put pressure on the opponent. The rest of the team will follow me then. The trainer already wanted to play last year in that way, but that wasn't possible with Adebayor on front. Emmanuel is more a selfish player. Wenger saw that Robin lost to many energy in his second striker role. He saw that when Robin played as a central striker, he had more energy to be involved in the attack. He doesn't care if Robin scores not many goals, as long as he plays an important role when they attack. He's the frontman and the other players must follow him. ' |

LONDON - Arsenal striker Robin van Persie says former team-mate Emmanuel Adebayor set out to hurt him when the two clashed during the match at Manchester City.
City won the game 4-2 with former Arsenal striker Adebayor on the scoresheet for his new club. Adebayor prompted anger from the Arsenal fans with his over-the-top celebrations after his goal, but of bigger concern was the way he lashed out at Van Persie, causing a cut on the left side of his face. “I am sad and disappointed by my former team-mate Emmanuel Adebayor’s mindless and malicious stamp on me during today’s match,” Van Persie said in a statement. “He set out to hurt me today. I do feel lucky that I have not received a greater injury. “I knew he was aiming for a collision because he changed the angle of his body to allow contact to be made. He moved backwards when his natural momentum would have taken him forward. I find that deeply disrespectful. “The contact was only centimetres from my eye. I have not received an apology from him, there were no words exchanged afterwards. He had his own agenda today and that is bad for football. It’s bad for the game we all love.” Adebayor claimed he did apologise to Van Persie. “I was trying to kick the ball,” Adebayor said. “I see him tackling and I don’t have time to take my feet back because I’m trying to kick the ball. “My feet touch his head. I feel sorry for him and even straight away, and at the end of the game, I said sorry.” |

Thierry Henry has slated Emmanuel Adebayor for showing a lack of respect to the manager, club and fans who made him a star. Arsenal legend Henry has entered the debate about Adebayor’s performance for Manchester City against the Gunners last weekend in brutal style. Henry, now at Barcelona, spent eight years as Arsenal’s scoring superstar. He said: “You have to remember, no matter where you end up, the people who helped make you along the way and gave you the chance. “I won the treble with Barcelona last year, but I know if it wasn’t for Arsene Wenger and Arsenal I would not be the player I am today. “I think the same has to be true of Adebayor. He might be one of the world’s top strikers today, but he wasn’t before Arsene got hold of him and gave him that chance. “When he came from Monaco he wasn’t even getting games back in France and then within two seasons he was a player who was wanted by a lot of top clubs in Europe. “Arsene puts a lot of investment in you when he sees talent and I don’t think it would hurt for Adebayor to show him, the club and the fans a little more respect.” Adebayor has been suspended for three games for the kick he inflicted on Robin van Persie’s head. He will miss today's Manchester derby and he has also been accused by Cesc Fabregas of launching a “red card” challenge on the Spanish midfielder. Adebayor faces further FA action for the 95-yard sprint he made to celebrate in front of the visiting fans after his goal in City’s 4-1 win. The Togo striker’s war with the Arsenal fans astonishes Henry, who last year was voted by supporters as the Gunners’ greatest player of all time. That award came the year after he moved to Barca and Henry said: “The fans at Arsenal were great. They were and always will be my family. I never saw them behave badly so to react like they did at the weekend shows just how angry and upset they were. “They will show you love and respect, but like any relationship they will ask for that love and respect back. “No matter what Adebayor’s emotions were, he could have earned himself a lot of respect by not celebrating the goal. “That would have shown real class, and that to be honest is what most players choose to do when they score against their old clubs. I don’t really understand why he didn’t do that.” Tottenham fans will claim Henry has a short memory. They will recall he ran the length of the Highbury pitch to celebrate in front of them after a wonder goal against Spurs in 2002. Adebayor has claimed that, while he may have angered fans by discussing potential transfers over the past two seasons, the ultimate key to his £25million move to Manchester was Wenger’s desire to cash in on him. Arsenal insiders insist Adebayor was a transfer waiting to happen and that eventually it was best for everyone that he headed out. Henry added: “Arsenal fans have nothing to worry about. Arsenal can’t spend like the other big clubs in the Premier League but when they have somebody with the brain of Arsene they don’t need to. “He is building something very special there. “I know the fans want trophies and I understand that, but if they have a little more patience they will come.” |

Wenger this week has become Arsenal's longest-serving manager and Henry cannot see him leaving. I will be honest, I don't see Arsenal without Arsène Wenger,'' he said. "I couldn't see Arsenal leaving Highbury but it happens. "He's the type of guy that you'd always associate with Arsenal, like Tony Adams, Ian Wright, Patrick Vieira and Bob Wilson. Arsenal was well known for being a boring team and he's changed that as soon as he arrived with the style of play and trophies we won. "He didn't have to convince me too much to come to play for Arsenal because that's what I wanted to do. I wanted to play for Arsenal full stop. I won't lie, it also helped that he was there. The best advice he gave me was, 'try to stop blaming others and try to see what you can do to help others'." Henry scored 174 goals for Arsenal in eight years at the club after joining from Juventus. The striker added: "He is the guy that makes you realise you can do anything you want. It is a pleasure to play and train with him. He is a great human being on top of everything.'' |

He has been the most important influence in my short career. He took me here, made me train with the first-team when I was 16 years old - I was training alongside Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Vieira so I was lucky to learn from the big players. For me it was a very big step forward. The manager took the risk to put me in the team. I have to thank him for that and now I have to pay him back for what he has done for me. |

I really hope this year will be a good one for him and the fans. |

Red Devils boss for 23 years himself, Ferguson feels Wenger's success at Arsenal proves his own theory that if clubs stand by their own decisions and give managers time, they will eventually be rewarded. "If you look at Brian Clough, myself and Arsène, it proves longevity brings rewards," said Ferguson. "His team play the right way and he has a stadium that is full every week. "He has been an incredible manager for that football club. There is no question about that." |

Mr. Ferguson has hit out at referee Alan Wiley, accusing the Staffordshire official of "not being fit enough" to do his job. Wiley, the fourth official for last month's controversial Manchester derby, was in charge at Old Trafford on Saturday as an injury-time own-goal from Anton Ferdinand salvaged United a point against Sunderland in a 2-2 draw. Ferguson claimed Wiley had not played the correct amount of added time because he had failed to add on an additional minute to the four already signalled once United scored. Disappointed "I was disappointed with the referee," said Ferguson. "He didn't add on any time for the goal. He played four minutes and two seconds. "He was also walking up the pitch for the second goal needing a rest. He was not fit enough for a game of that standard. "The pace of the game demanded a referee who was fit. He was not fit. It is an indictment of our game. "You see referees abroad who are as fit as butcher's dogs. We have some who are fit. He wasn't fit. "He was taking 30 seconds to book a player. He was needing a rest. Am I alone in my empathy for Pool with their run of fixtures, transfer sales, inadequate (funds for) replacements, injuries, and timing of away game after international break. Sort of like Arsenal last year. Do I sense slothful punditry in dismissing and condescending teams in the "title" race (what race, it's going to be Man utd any way)? And their snobbery on Arsenal struggling to making into one of 4 CL slots. Devoid sense of imagination, and dross outlook of the game is nauseating enough. And trust me, they would much rather pick on top teams struggling in the tide with insufficient funds than some of the moneybags in the league. For example, Chelsea's opening to this season will never be debunked in mainstream English media/press. |

Rafa Benitez will take charge of his 200th league game for Liverpool on Sunday - and we've unearthed some fascinating statistics comparing the Spaniard's record to rival managers.
Benitez has won 113 of his 199 top-flight clashes since taking charge of Liverpool in 2004 - an impressive 56.8 per cent. This compares favourably to the records of Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger in their first 200 Premier League games. Ferguson won just 87 from 200 (43.5 per cent) after joining Manchester United in 1986 - and it took the Scot almost seven years to collect a league title. Meanwhile, just one Liverpool manager from down the years can boast a better record than Benitez. Kenny Dalglish won 120 of his first 200 (60 per cent) league games. |

"We have also seen in his come back from injury, Eduardo is a human being full of courage, bravery and commitment. His full recovery from this injury is a testament to Eduardo's character. We all look forward to enjoying Eduardo's performances in an Arsenal shirt for a long time to come." Eduardo said: "I am very pleased to have signed a new long contract with the Club. I'm very happy and I hope to stay at Arsenal for as long as I can. This period is good for me now. I feel strong in my body and I feel ready to play 90 minutes every three days if it's needed. "I went to Croatia last week and everybody was telling me Arsenal play the best football in Europe at the moment. I agree with that. Looking at the list, Europe-ku ivLO position thEvaiyA? Historically, they had the strongest teams so they had a big allocation. Isnt it time to rethink that?
I have noticed this - every world cup some dull European team (Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Slovenia, Greece, Switzerland ipdi yaaravadhu) will come and go through the motions. Dull draws, long balls ipdi. Atleast African and South American teams can add excitement(this is an outsider's view - am not very football savvy). The way the qualifiers are structured, it is inevitable that dull teams come through from Europe - a loss of form in a couple of matches can knock out decent teams like Netherlands, Russia, France, Spain during the qualifiers stage itself. Is there some federation politics in keeping the European quota high? And then there is England. All the excitement they generate are outside the footbal pitch. |

And lot of the European leagues have more quality compared to Africa and South America.

Again, a question born out of lack of knowledge - arent the European leagues filled with African and South American talent. How, then, do the leagues determine world cup places? |

The Point I mentioned prior , UEFA (European governing body) runs FIFA (World governance) and not the other way around - is because UEFA's revenue are mainly due to the leagues.

And another thing ICC had done well, is to use video technology and balance it with the human intervention - umpires. Football is worse off in this area. Linesmen and Referee are limited and the games are decided by odd decisions. Like last night. |

In football, with no character you don't win anything. “There are not many old players here but the young ones sometimes don't show the character they have. The older players must also help open the eyes of the younger ones to help them do this.” |

I think both of them will start if they make it as SAF prefers a 4-4-2 at home. But i think the midfielders will be quite tired especially those holding the wolfsburg attack at bay yesterday in defence. Hopefully we dunt have a very tired squad when the next half of the season starts. |
