We have been one of the few countries disallowing Dual nationality but still who likes to come back home after having a better quality of life abroad, who remember home, lanes and friends after living in US or UK ,DO they really forget their history for some small pleasures, So why is the govenment thinking for dual nationality, A person who wants to be an Indian would always descibe himslef as one rather than an Americanised Indian or westernised Indian,Do you think by doing so all our people are going to do anygood----------I dont,
Please do not comprimise on such things..

What are some benefits of having dual citizenship?

The benefit is that one need not lose Indian Passport to gain another. And, for very many Indians, including the celebrity Orchestrator Zubin Mehta still are very emotional about Indian Passport.

what is this nonsense about India being a "spiritual land" after women and children on both sides being burnt alive by angry mobs?
Indians in my opinion are more money minded and materialistic than Americans. We even have a god for that (Laxmi).
A lot of Americans do community service and donate blood regularly. How many people in India do that?
Indians having this holier-than-thou attitude of being spiritually superior makes me sick to my stomach.

Has India started giving dual citizenship to NRIs living in Canada ? I have read a lot on the net about Vajpayee saying 'n' number of things. But the Indian Consulate in Toronto which has issued my new Indian passport on Feb 13, 2003 flatly refused the dual citizenship issue saying that there is no such provision. In fact they stamped my passport saying that if the holder acquires any other citizenship he will have to forego his Indian citizenship. I think if the Indian government has decided to grant dual citizenship to NRIs then they should convey the same to the consulates in the respective countries and not keep the public in dark. But as usual the Indian administration being inefficient, and the red tapism involved, this matter like other matters is ambiguous to the concerned citizenry. Can somebody please clarify the issue with me and also with the Indian Consulate in Toronto so that they can present a clear picture to the querying public ???

A man will have children beyond his means.
Then 'dump' the responsibility on the eldest son!
Still arranged marriages -
Marry when 25(with dowry and all),
Children when at 26.
Same steriotype still in 21st century.
People que to see the movie romance - oh, no romance is not acceptable in real life !
Everybody thinks that they have a say in everyones life in the name of family.
No sense of privacy any where - constantly people step on your toes !
No sense of promptness in work - one has to wait many days for a work that could be done with in days!
Protest that alcohol is bad in public - but do it on the sly!
Never que for anything - just jump and clamber for anything !
Talking about others all the time as if one is perfect and everyone is stupid.
Stupid caste system and crown it all with untouchablity !
To be honest - I can not see any superior 'INDIAN CULTURE' any where in india.
Somebody, please explain where this notion of superior indian culture stems from.

Ken,
true there are some negative points, soem frustrating and unacceptable issues but that is not everything. There are many good things as well.
You don't have to take an appointment to visit your parents unlike some other cultures. There is the mystic tradition where, even though people may not do anything themselves, they will not oppose to many higher things in life. We have not done anything like poisoning a Socrates for speaking truth. The problem is not with cultures. It is with individuals. We still have fewer heart diseases as compared to the developed world. What is the reason ? It can be as deep rooted in as ordinary things of life as chatting with your neighbour. Whenever you have anything heav on your mind you can go and chat with your neighbours and friends much more easily. In developed countries you have to go to counsellors for these kind of things. The whole media of sharing in economically strong countries is economy. Hence it is still harder to live without money in economically developed countries than in country like India. This may not sound correct initially but if you watch the situation very closely you should realise it.
Then there are other things which are still hidden. For example we had so many sciences like -
metaphysics, sciences of souls, astrology (not like a roas side astrologer) as a proper science, vaastu shastra, kamasutra, classical dances, food consciousness, aayurved etc etc.. the list can grow very long. These are indeed superior things. And we as the young generation should probe more into these things, clean the webs on these treasures, dust them and make them available for us and for the next generation.
In life all the dualities are always together. The good and the bad are never separate. the day and night also exist together. without day there will be no night and without night there will be no day. You can observe any simple thing in your life if you see a good part that means a bad part is also present. it is just a question of observation. And if you decide to get stuck in these dualities whole your life you can wander from bad to good and good to bad. What is more appropraite for an intilligent person like you is to start looking into a third dimension which is going beyond the dualities. because reality is no dual. duality is illusion. Truth is not dual. it is beyond all these dualities.

Thank you Asmita,
But still it doesn't answer my querry -'Superior Indian culture' notion. I am not condeming the achievements of the society as whole since Indians came into existence. I am talking about this 'holier than thou' attitude of Indians when all I could see is those things I have written about. Can anybody be proud of that. Never.
Regards,ken.
