I read about a Hindustani Musician from Guruvayoor, Kerala, but don't remember
his name. Do you know the names Hindustani
musicians in Kerala? Any followers of Swathi Sampradaya?
Thanks

I learned that Guruvayur Sangameshwar is a Hindustani singer. I hope there are many others.

vj: I think his last name is Gurav and not Guruvayur.

MS Gopalkrishnan's father was a student of VD Paluskar and a friend of Onkarnath thakur(two Gwalior stalwarts)
However MSG has been fromally trained in the Kirana tradition of Hindustani music.

Lakshman, The Malayalam magazine I read has his
name as Guruvaayur Sangameshwar. There is also one
Pt. Sangameshwar Gurav. I doubt if they are the
same.
Suhas, I thought MSG got his training from his
father Parur Sundaram Iyer. Do you know who
trained him in the Kirana Gayaki and in
which Kirana style? Abdul Karim Khan-Sawai Gandharwa style (followed by Gangubai, Bhimsen
Joshi etc.) is different from Abdul Waheed Khan-
Amir Khan gayaki, though both give high importance
to "bhava"/ emotion.

Vj,
Yes, he had his initial training from his Father i.e in the Gwalior style.
Pt Krishnanand taught him the Kirana style(Unfortunately I have never heard Krishnanand)
BTW, does Amir Khan belong to the Kirana Gharana.I thought he belonged to the Indore gharana.

I think Amir Khan blended the Bhendi Bazar Gayaki
and Kirana Gayaki (Waheed Khan) and developed the
style now known as "Indore Gharana". Amir Khan
learned a number of compositions from Ustad
Aman Ali Khan (Bhendi Bazar)
