Was wondering what the difference is between Gamakakriya and Poorvikalyani. Apart from the obvious name and spelling, there seems to be no difference in arohanam/avarohanam (or perhaps someone can tell me different).
Is it simply two different names for the same raaga? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The wo ragas are the same. Gamakakriya is the name used under the asampUrNa mELa used by the Dikshitar school and pUrvikalyANi is the raga under the sampUrNa mELa system.

Ha, Lakshman.
should not have named them in the first place right!
The melakarta is just basic mathematics, combinatin of the srutis.
Why before these melakarta 'experts' came and started the confusion, the music was well - up an going. Now, I am afraid, it is down the drain!

Yes, Nishanth, I am from Perth and did go to Murdoch Uni. Tried e-mailing you but I'm not sure if you got it.
Now, it would be great to know how you know me ... :-)
