Perhaps Tulasivanam should sing a few of his his/her compositions instead of relying on all the late and later singers, to remove all these doubts. RaviKiran, who is in the Srikanthan school may be able to comment as well.

Thulasivanam is not a musician and he cannot sing , but only a composer of sanskrit compositions in praise of various deities .

All of us have forgotten Aalappuzhai ( Allepey ) Venkatesan. He is perhaps the last of Ariyakkudi's disciples. He has a melodious voice and excellent diction and sings with deep emotion.

Has anyone forgot about the all time mridangam wizard, Palghat Mani Iyer? Or stalwarts like Palghat Raghu, Guruvayur Dorai, Trichur Narendran, MSG, TVG, TNK, MDR, or Palghat Rama Bhagavathar. Essentially, I am from Palghat as well (my father was born and brought up there). Kerala has brought up many many musicians who are top rankers today.

MSG again... My mridangam guruji *thinks* that he comes from Parur in Tamil Nadu, same as his father, Shri Parur Sundaram Iyer. He suggests that maybe, in this case, 'M' is for grandfather's name.

Answer to biju's questions:
Vishnu Sahasranaama forms part of Mahaabhaarata.
Yudhistira the eldest of the Pandavas asks Bheeshma while Bheeshma was lying in the bed-of-arrows waiting for self-desginated date of his death to tell him "what has to be chanted for liberation?" and Bheeshma instructs Yudhistira with the 1000 names of Vishnu.
LalithaSahasranaamam belongs to Brahmaandha puraanam as a conversation between Hayagreeva and Agastya.

Yes it is a fact that musicians from Kerala are indirectly discriminated against in Chennai since Chembai's time. Who can forget the way Ariyakudi, Musiri & Semmangudi formed an axis to check the rising prominence of Chembai during 1940s-1960s in Chennai. But they could not fully succeed in this because of following reasons:
1. None of the three could outrank Chembai's voice.
2. Though Chembai was from Kerala, tamil was his native language and he could build a fine rapport with his audience.
3. Chembai's noble personality was liked and admired by all and he was able to maintain his reputation, so much so that people began to look upon him as a saint.
