according to some statistics there is one temple for every 11 hindus in malaysia.that is quite a big figure for a minority group in malaysia. i don't know how far this is true.but i am really curious to know the origin of kavadis,fire-walking and body-piercing rituals.i assume these are still practised by south indians.it is really frightening to see men with hooks and skewers pierced thru their bodies. are these rituals mentioned in the vedas. i really don't know how to explain these to my non-hindu friends. do we have to do this to show our bhakti? in fact, batu caves temple is a major tourism spot during thaipusam.anyone can clear my doubts?
