Chiyaan’ Vikram and Director Vijay were at the 16th Busan International Film Festival 2011 held at Busan, South Korea between 6th to 14th October 2011.
The film festival screened number of newly released Korean films as well as unsung masterpieces from all over Asia. For the festival, “Deivathirumagal” was selected and both Vikram and Vijay were invited to attend the screening of the film. Both were given the red carpet welcome. There were two screenings of the film and both were hugely received and Vikram was mobbed by the audience on both the occasions. Overall, it was a memorable festival and great recognition for this great film.

I think we have so many characterless voices now that even Mano’s voice presence seems significant. Again, nice 2nd interlude, wind instruments and acoustic drums.

I think problem is Vikram had a long gap between his movie releases for example - 2005 Majaa next 2008 Bheema. Expect Rajini and Kamal no one can have that luxury. Are you tensed?
(Laughs) Not at all. In fact, I’m too excited and proud.Can’t wait any longer for the release and the magic to unfold. I can promise you that it’s a 2 hour 7 minutes of pure entertainment with all the masalas in the right mix.
How different is Rajapattai from the normal mass masala commercial potboilers?
After doing serious films like Raavan and Deivathirumagal, I wanted to do something light, funny and totally entertaining like Dhool and Saamy. That’s when I met Suseenthiran, who narrated this script to me and the first thing that struck me is Wow! But trust me, I worked very hard and it was not easy like I thought (smiles).
Rajapattai is a visual treat with land grabbing, a topical subject as the base.There are no comedians but there is an undercurrent of comedy throughout, there is action, romance and the relationship between my character and K Viswanath, who plays an important role, is the emotional angle to the story.
What’s your role?
I play a common man Anal Murugan a gym boy who dreams big, of becoming a villain in cinema. There are no punchlines, I’m not a superhero and in fact I get beaten up couple of times. The best thing about the film is the logic behind every scene. Suseenthiran is a good film maker and he visualises each and every scene before the shot.
You shared a great rapport with Suseenthiran?
I loved all his films especially Naan Mahaan Alla and Azhagar Samiyin Kuthirai. There is his signature in every frame along with usual mass masala gimmicks like any other commercial films without tampering with logic. He has an immense amount of passion and dedication for work. To have someone like him as director inspires you to work even harder and give your best. He gave me complete freedom and it was lovely working with him.
You sport different looks in the film?
It’s not a deliberate attempt to sport different looks. I have 17 looks and they are very important to the story and it is set in a filmi background. In one song,heroine Deeksha dreams about me in different villain looks.
People seem to like your chemistry between Deeksha in the promos of the film?
She is very promising actress and in one of the songs Paniye Panipoove.. shot in Italy, she looks ravishing like a goddess.
How do you prepare for a role?
For me, the most crucial aspect is the sessions I have with my director before the shoot starts. I sit with my director and brainstorm, I give my suggestions and that’s what I call the home work. And when the actual shoot starts, I completely surrender to my director and I become a directors’ actor.I never interfere and all my directors have been wonderful people, who know their job.
The audio is a big hit. Which is your favourite song?
My personal favourite is Podi Payyan Polave among the four songs. I love Laddu Laddu Rendu Laddu,(laughs) not because I sung it but for the energy and the positive vibes I shared with Reema and Shriya during the shoot. Shobi master has choreographed all the songs and the Italy songs will be a major highlight.
The glam quotient is high with three hot girls shaking a leg with you?
What’s life without colour and spice? We love masala in our food or films. But, including Reema, Shriya and Saloni was again a part of the script, not any last minute decision. It was fun shooting the song with them in Italy.

Well for those Vikram fans, who wanted to witness their matinee idol
back as ‘Mass Hero’, it’s time to rejoice. Yes, ‘Rajapattai’ is a 100%
commercial entertainer, though it doesn’t overtake the actor’s previous
mass movies – ‘Dhil’, ‘Dhool’ and ‘Saamy’. But Susintheeran proves that
he is capable of not just making exceptional themes, but this kind of
flicks as well.
The film has a wafer-thin storyline that reminiscence of several movies
that has a plot between an ordinary man and political bigwigs.
Anal Murugan (Vikram) is a stunt artist and wants to make a big time in
films as villain. On an occasion, he saves an elderly person (K.
Viswanath) from a bunch of baddies, who are actually by his hired by son
to bring him so as to gain the land property that now accommodates
hundreds of orphans. He is instigated by a politician Akka and is later
chicaned. With the land acquired by the powerful politician, it’s time
for Anal Muthu to take upon her network and win back justice in his own

It’s out and out Vikram’s treat for his fans as he amuses them with his

leaves you speechless, specifically during ‘Kidnap Drama in Market’.
Deeksha Seth doesn’t carry much importance and her role is nowhere far
from the usual heroine characters in the commercial cinema. Versatile K
Viswanath is another showstopper as he takes over the humor quotients.
His instructions to Chiyaan over capturing the heart of his sweetheart
are enjoyable. Pradeep Rawat looks powerful with his role and does his
part well.
Mathi’s cinematography is colorful and the hi-definition print in
theatres is an additional visual attraction. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s theme
song with Yogi B is the best of all tracks. The songs don’t have much to
do with the film.
Much alike Susintheeran’s previous movies, the first half proceeds with
light moments and the actual conflict begins post-intermission. The
director needs special mention for narrating the tale with crispness at a
right duration of 120mins. However, he could have avoided few portions
in the first half, but that’s not a major factor.
On the whole, ‘Rajapattai’ will have a big time in box office and it’s a
best treat you can afford for the yearend holiday. It’s not just for
Vikram fans, but for everyone that will keep you engaged in parts from
beginning till end.

Story

Vikram, is one of the most anticipated Tamil films of the year. Vikram has come out with yet another powerful performance, this time as a super-action hero. Performance
Pradeep Rawat, who played a stunning role in A R Murugadoss’ ‘Ghajini’ has again showed the same hard core villain face here in ‘Rajapattai’. Mithra Kurien, who played a vital role in Vijay’s ‘Kavalan’ has delivered a neat performance. Thambi Ramaiah and Mayilsami have done other prominent roles proving their acting talents. This is yet another action-family drama of Suseendran.The director has taken the support of Seenu Vasan in writing the story and Bhaskar Sakthi for doing the dialogues. The script has enough action, comedy, sentiments and romance, and fulfills a wholesome ‘Mass Masala’ entertainment! Suseendran has included many novel features in the film including Vikram’s 10 different getups that we never have seen in any of the films.
Technicalities
Yuvan Shankar Raja is scoring the music. Songs and the visuals are heart-warming. The song ‘Laddu Laddu Rendu Laddu…’ featuring top heroines Shriya Saran and Reema Sen is one of the highlights of the film. The locations (Italy) capture our eyes. Thanks to the camera work of R. Madhi. Mu. Kasi Viswanathan has taken care of the editing department. SP Creations Ramesh actually started the production but due to financial constraints he handed over the production and the film to PVP Cinemas of Prasad V Potluri.
Verdict
Rajapattai sure can be declared a pure ‘action-drama’ entertainer that can be watched with the whole family!

Rajapattai - Sorry but the worst movie I seen from Vikram.
A movie that shouldnt be on list of Vikrams movie. Its a real torture to watch a good actor getting wasted like this. After a great performance in Deiva Thirumagal, he goes and does a Kanthasaamy 2. I have a serious doubt what the director wanted to tell with this movie? I really hope Vikram avoids movies like these in the future.
I would like to compare this movie to:

KH - Mumbai Express
PK - Viruthagiri
AK - Vallakottai
IT - Sura
US - Asal
To mention movies like Saamy, Dhool, Dhil in a same sentence with Rajapattai would be a horrible crime.

Saw the movie and it was below average one (I am generous here). There is nothing in the movie which will showcase Vikram's acting skills. He can sleep walk this role. Nothing special.

பழைய ராஜபாட்டையில் ஏழு கிலோ மீட்டருக்குள் மூன்று தியேட்டர்களில் விக்ரமின் ராஜபாட்டையை *ரிலீஸ் செய்திருக்கிறார்கள். முதல்நாள் ஈவ்னிங் ஷோவுக்கு அரக்கப்பரக்க ஓடி வந்தால் தியேட்டர் வெறிச். உள்ளே நுழைந்தால் பின்பக்கம் நாலு வ*ரிசையில் சுமார் நாற்பது ஆட்கள். இதுவே லக்கி பிரைஸ் என்பது போல் ச*ரியாக ஆறேகாலுக்கெல்லாம் படத்தைப் போட்டார்கள்.
விக்ரம் *ஜிம் பாய். தாடைவரை கிருதா வைத்து சர்க்கஸ் வித்தைக்காரனாக ஒரு கெட்டப். முதல் கால்மணி நேரம் நிஜம் எது, சினிமா ஷூட்டிங் எது என்று கொஞ்சம் குழம்பித்தான் போகிறோம். இந்த குழப்பம் காரணமாக நிஜமான வில்லன்களைப் பார்த்தாலும் ஷூட்டிங்கோ என்று எண்ணத் தோன்றுகிறது. இந்த ஹேங்ஓவ*ரிலிருந்து மீண்டு வரும்போது கதைக்குள் நுழைகிறார் இயக்குனர்.
நில மோசடி செய்யும் ஒரு பெண் மினிஸ்டர். அவருக்கு பக்கபலமாக இருக்கும் வாப்பா எனும் சக்திவாய்ந்த தாதா. மினிஸ்ட*ரின் பார்வை அனாதை ஆசிரமம் ஒன்றின் மீது விழுகிறது. மினிஸ்ட*ரின் ஆசைக்கு ஆசிரமம் வைத்து நடத்தும் பெ*ரியவ*ரின் மகனே உடந்தையாக இருக்கிறான். இந்நிலையில் விக்ரம் ரவுடிகளிடமிருந்து பெ*ரியவரை காப்பாற்றி பாதுகாக்க, வில்லன்களுடன் நேரடி மோதல். மற்றவற்றை நடுராத்தி*ரி எழுப்பி கேட்டாலும் நாலு வயசு குழந்தை ஒப்பிக்கும்.
நில மோசடின்னு பக்கா சப்ஜெக்டை வைத்து விளையாடி இருக்க வேண்டாமா? ம்ஹும்... பேப்ப*ரில் நில மோசடி பற்றிப் படிக்கிற சுவாரஸியம்கூட இல்லை. பெ*ரியவர் அவரது பிளாஷ்பேக்கை சொன்னதும், ரொம்ப சாதாரணமா என்கூட வந்திடு என்கிறார் விக்ரம். அதைவிட சாதாரணமா அவருடன் பெ*ரியவர் கிளம்பிப் போகிறார். படம் பார்க்கிற நாமும் ரொம்ப சாதாரணமா இதை எடுத்துக்கிறோம். ராஜபாட்டையின் பிரச்சனையே இதுதான். உணர்ச்சிங்கிற விஷயம் படம் நெடுகில் பொங்கவேயில்லை. பொங்குற ஒரே விஷயம் ஆக்சன். அதுவும் வாப்பாவுடன் விக்ரம் போடுற சண்டை ரொம்பவே ஸ்பெஷல். அதுக்காக மசூதிப் பின்னணியில் முஸ்லீம்கள் கத்தி கபடாக்களுடன் கும்பலாக தாக்க வருவதெல்லாம் ஓவர் கற்பனை.
சாலிகிராமம் ஸ்டுடியோவில் செட் போட்டு படம் எடுத்தது பக்காவாக தெ*ரிகிறது. ஒரு டீக்கடை, ரெண்டு மூணு பேன்சி கடை பின்னணியில் சர்புர்னு பல்ச*ரில் மூணு நாலு பேர் போனால் அது தெருவாயிடுமா? போர் பாஸ். ஹீரோயினுக்காகக்கூட இயக்குனர் பக்கத்துத் தெருவுக்கு போகவில்லை. எதுத்தாப்பிலேயே லேடீஸ் ஹாஸ்டல். அதில் அங்கேயும் இங்கேயும் நடக்கும் ஹீரோயின்.
பலபேரை இயக்கிய ஜாம்பவனாயிற்றே, பெ*ரியவராக வரும் இயக்குனர் கே.விஸ்வநாத்தின் தளர்ந்த ச**ரீரத்திலும் சமுத்திரமா நடிப்பு அலையடிக்கிறது. பெண்ணை எப்படி கரெக்ட் பண்றதுன்னு அவர் தருகிற ஐடியாக்கள் சொத்தைன்னாலும் சொல்றவிதம் வித்தை. லேடீஸ் ஹாஸ்டல் தீக்சா சேத் முகத்தில் காம்னா, வனப்பில் ஹன்சிகா. நடிப்பில், அட போங்கண்ணா. பொண்ணுக்கு அது மட்டும் வரவே மாட்டேங்குது.
பாடல் காட்சியில் ஹாலிவுட் வில்லன்கள் கெட்டப்புகளில் வருகிறார் விக்ரம். விடியற்காலை மூணு மணிக்கெல்லாம் சாப்பிடாம மேக்கப் போட்டேன்னு சொல்றார். ரசிகனை ஆச்ச*ரியப்படுத்தணும்னு நினைத்துப் போட்டிருந்தா அய்யோ பாவம். எலி பிடிக்க மலையை கொடஞ்ச கதைதான். வாப்பாவை பேச வைக்க இவர் போடுற வேஷம் படத்தின் டெம்போவை பட்டுன்னு போட்டு தள்ளுவது இன்னொரு சோக காவியம். அக்கான்னு ஒரு பக்கா ஆ*ண்*ட்டியை காட்டுகிறார்கள். முட்டை கண்ணால் அவர் முறைக்கிற போது ரசிகன் கிளுகிளுத்துப் போகிறான்.
படத்தில் காமெடி இல்லாத குறையை போக்குவது அந்த தாடிக்கார வில்லன். என்னா ஃபெர்பாமென்ஸ். இவர் அ*ரிவாளை எடுத்து வெட்டப் போகும் போதெல்லாம் தியேட்டர் குலுங்க ஆரம்பிக்குது. தனியாக கேட்டால் இனிக்கிற பாடல்களும் படத்தோடு பார்க்கிறபோது நெ***ளிய வைக்கிறது. ராங் பிலே*ஸ்மெண்ட். ஒளிப்பதிவு மட்டும் பேஷ்.
படம்விட்டு வெளியே வரும்போது கேண்டீன்காரர் இன்னொருவ*ரிடம், ஏதோ தெலுங்குப் படமாம் என்று ராஜபாட்டை பற்றி சொல்லிக் கொண்டிருந்தார். ஆறடி அகல போஸ்ட*ரில் அதைவிட நீள கத்தியுடன் விக்ரம் நிற்பதைப் பார்த்தால் யாருக்கும் அப்படிதான் தோன்றும்.
சுசீந்திரன் சுசீந்திரன்னு ஒரு நல்ல டைரக்டர் தமிழ் சினிமாவுல இருந்தார். ராஜபாட்டையில் அவரை மட்டும் காணலை.

Forced to watch Rajapattai again... I enjoyed it the second time around
I think the one thing that put me off on the first watch was the first fight scene. I would have liked it even more if they avoided that over-the-top-annoying-fight-infused-with-humor. Other than that it was pretty entertaining
