We know there is no one in india equal to kamal haasan's calibre. One department where he is bit ridiculed can be Box Office \ Collections.

In this thread we can analyse about this in a postive manner. At the same time, we also can treat this as a Rajini Vs Kamal thread bcos Rajni is a BO King.

This thread, intially can folw in two directions.

1. Analyse what went wrong with kamal's canse?? My point is that, he always has the brain to bring crowd to theatres but he has left the masala way which rajni took., after Nayakan. He kept away withSPMuthuraman\P.Vasu\Rajasekar and their alikes, even with KSR he has done only comedies.

2. Just replace kamal in place of rajni in chandramuki, its not a typical rajni film, so just replace kamal there, imagine he does everything, the intro fight, the intro song, climax, ect. , i feel that surely this much of collections would have come, with no change..

Kamal is a master Brain. Its just that after nayakan he took a different route. In these days where even a Sullan Hero too has an intro\puch\style \song\\buildup and all that crap, whay can't kamal be a BO Baadshah , if he goes to this normal route ???

Arent you aware of your name based movie produced by AVM which created records in BO

The collections were as good as Murattu kalai , another AVM movie

Kalyana raman, Aboorva sagotharagal all were BO hits

Virumaandi - Hit/Above average [Profitable in any case]
VR MBBS - Hit
MX - Flop
Rama Shama Bama - Super Hit [although it was a guest role, anybody who has seen the movie will know WHO and WHY the movie ran for - one and only Aandavar]

guys, i didnt say that its a ridicule!. i mentioned that some one said...

i too know and agree. whats so great thing that these rajini vijay and other comedians are doing and kamal cannot do?? this clearly shows that those ppl have parked their brains outside, when kamal dont want even to have his comedies as repetitions, and likes to keep each movie a fresh and now one, how can one expect BO success in all those movies ???

but still he had succeeded in his agenda, and thatswhy i opened this thread....

Overstatement. I think media has blown up things out of proportion. I can't produce evident, but most of his movies have done well, at least collection wise. I don't think most producers have lost money with his flicks - with exception of few.

What happens is the movies usually perform below expectation. As you know, our expectations are high...every Kamal film is like a big event in our life and when it does normal run...we feel like it has flopped.

But I need someone with record and evidence to back me up here.

The case? Kamal took a route and the fans followed. He did Kamal type films and most of them were hits, ie. Thevar Magan, Kuruthi Punal, Virumandi. The comedies were all big hits (not sure about kathala Kathala)

Not the same. But still a good success, especially when Kamal always have had luck starring with Prabhu (Vetri Vizha and Vasool Raaja are both tremendous hits). CM became bigger hit also because we have not seen Rajini for far too long on screen.

If you follow the thread on Nadigar Tilagam Sivaji Ganesan you will see how much the media downplayed the box office performances of Sivaji as compared to MGR, when in reality Sivaji's film have done extremely well (refer to posts by S. Balaji, Joe, Murali Srinivas and Mohanram).

Likewise, both Kamal and Rajini has ups and downs in the 70s and 80s.

Kamal made more films than Rajini 90s onwards, so there seem more variation in BO performance because Rajini made very few films, very carefully, and so all are hits.

Hope you understand what I was trying to say. I can explain more...unfortunately all I have is theory. I'm based in Malaysia. If someone from Tamil nadu can back me up with facts and figures, I'd be grateful.

Very true. Infact, his Marocharitra and Chanakya (Malayalam) did well here WITHOUT BEING DUBBED.

I was under the impression that Virumaandi was a BLOCKBUSTER.

It did well in A centers, and even better in B & C as well as rural areas.

I remember shows like TOP TEN MOVIES having Virumaandi in the #1 spot even for the span of 2 or so months.

முன்னணி தமிழ் நடிகர்களின் படங்கள் தொடங்கும்போதே ஆந்திரா தயாரிப்பாளர்கள் கரன்ஸியுடன் காத்திருக்க தொடங்கிவிடுகிறார்கள். டப்பிங்கோ, ரீ-மேக்கோ எந்த உருவத்திலாவது தமிழ் சினிமா ஆந்திராவில் தலைகாட்டும் காலம் இது.

கமலின் 'வேட்டையாடு விளையாடு' பைனான்ஸ் பிரச்சனையில் சிக்கி இன்னும் விழி பிதுங்கிக் கொண்டிருக்கிறது. அதே நேரம் படம் வெளியாகாமலே பலகோடிகளை இப்படம் தயாரிப்பாளருக்கு சம்பாதித்துக் கொடுத்திருக்கிறது.

Dont you guys think it's wrong to start a versus war.I am a Kamal fan and Rajini fan as well.I enjoy all their movies,i think they are what they are in their own style,these guys are the legends of Tamil cinema.I dont know about you guys,but i supported all their films and will continue to support until they retire.
