I read somewhere that the story is a love story but also has a backdrop of Karate just like cricket in ch-28. It is a low budget film and most of the actors are youngsters and new faces. So something fresh will be there. Originally Posted by selvakumar

Short Take
I went with HUGE Expectations. I was disappointed.
Story: Same old story. Spoiler ahead. Do not read if you are yet to watch the movie :P (Hero and Heroine love each other truly. Dreams go haywire. Situation forces heroine to get married to some X. X is a rowdy who spends more time jail than in house. Heroine comes back to the village where their love blossomed. Hero is still in love with her. A small misunderstanding prevails. Heroine thinks that hero did not even try to rescue her from her marriage. He actually tried but in vain. Climax is bit predictable but a not bad one though. aSubham)
Director makes an impression by introducing fresh faces who are not fair handsome, glamor, (just like VKK).
Both the lead pair stammered at first in acting but then picked up later and did justice to their roles. Boy did really well in second half.
Music and Cinematography:
Could feel the change in Music as it is Live Orchestra Recording. No synth sound has been used in this movie. Flute, violin sounds were good with Originality. Apart from this, Yuvan's Music was above average. 1st half had very little music and second half was good. Same kinda music was heard throughout the movie. Well, Yuvan needs to learn more when it comes to rural based subjects.
Cinematography was really cool.
Sinnianchirusu song picturization was very good though it reminded me of Kangal Irandal, Aiyaiyo (Paruthiveera) at times. Oru Nimisham song was so apt for that situation. It was really haunting. Velmurugan who has sung this song must be appreciated.

First half was ok. second half was dragging... thank god.. climax was crisp. Rural feel was completely there
Director's inexperience was very clear in the screenplay. Lack of fresh ideas is a big minus. Could have made it much better. He must apprentice. He has no prior experience in this field (as told by him in an interview).
Overall: pAkkalam. but don't go with huge expectations. You would be disappointed!

சாதி, தகுதி எல்லாம் கடந்து தயாய், பிள்ளையாய் பழகும் இரண்டு குடும்பங்களின் இளசுகளிடயே காதல் கண்ணாமூச்சி காட்டினால் என்னாகும்? என்பதை அப்பட்டமாய், ஆர்ப்பாட்டமில்லாமல் சொல்லியிருக்கும் அழகிய படம்தான் குங்குமப்பூவும் கொஞ்சும் புறாவும் திரைப்படம்!
பள்ளி இறுதியாண்டு படிக்கும் கூச்சனுக்கு, குடும்ப சூழலால் வேறு ஊரில் இருந்து, அதே பள்ளியில் அதே வகுப்பில் படிக்க வரும் துளசி மீது காதல்! தளசியின் வீடும், கூச்சனின் வீடும் அருகருகே அமைந்து விடுவதால், அந்த காதல் நாளொரு மேனியும், பொழுதொரு வண்ணமுமாக வெகு வேகமாக வளருகிறது. ஒரு கட்டத்தில் காதல் விவகாரம் கூச்சனின் தாய்க்கு தெரியவருகிறது. அ*ந்த நேரம் பார்த்து நாயகன் கூச்சன் கல்வி சுற்றுலா போய்விடுகிறார். ஒரு சில காரணங்களால் அந்த சுற்றுலாவிற்கு போகாத நாயகி துளசியை முச்சந்தியில் நிறுத்தி, அடித்து துவைத்து, முடியை அறுக்கிறார் கூச்சனின் அடாவடி தாய். அடக் கொடுமையே... அப்புறம்? ஓடு காலி அம்மா - அப்பாவிற்கு பிறந்ததால் அனாதையான நாயகி துளசி, பஞ்சம் பிழைக்க தன் பாட்டியுடன் வந்*த இடத்தில் பட்ட அவமானம் போதுமென மூட்டை முடிச்சுகளுடன்சொந்த ஊர் கிளம்ப... கல்விச் சுற்றுலா முடித்து திரும்பும் கூச்சன், துளசியை சந்தித்தானா? இல்லையா? துளசி குடிகார அக்காள் புருஷனின் இச்சைக்கு பலியானாரா... இல்லை என்ன ஆனார்? என்பது உள்ளிட்ட இன்னும் பல கேள்விகளுக்கு எதிர்பாராத எண்ணற்ற திருப்பங்களுடன் படம் பார்க்கும் நம்மை திடுக்கிட வைத்து நகர்கிறது மீதிக் கதை!
நாயகன் கூச்சனாக புதுமுகம் ராமகிருஷ்ணன் யதார்த்த நாயகன். நாயகி துளசியாக புதுமுகம் தனன்யா பருவத்து வனப்புகளுடன் பளிச்சிடும் யதார்த்த நாயகி. இருவரும் நடிக்கவும் இல்லை... வாழவும் இல்லை...! இந்த இருவர் மூலமும் படம் பார்க்கும் நாம் நமது பால்ய காலத்து பள்ளி பருவத்திற்கு சென்று விடுகிறோம். குறைந்தபட்சம் மீண்டும் பள்ளி பருவத்து பழைய காதலி - காதலனை சந்திக்க மாட்டோமா? என ஏங்கித் தவிக்கிறோம்! இருவரும் அத்தனை இயல்பான தேர்வு!
மேற்படி இருவர் மாதிரிய நாயகனின் அம்மா அகம்மாவாக வரும் சந்திரா, நாயகியின் பாட்டி நாகம்மா, மாமியார் சிந்தாமணியாக வரும் ஈஸ்வரி, நாயகனின் நண்பர்களில் ஒருவராக ராஜீவ், கணவன் தர்மாவாக தருண் சத்ரியா, வில்லன் சந்திரனாக சரோஜா நாகேந்திரன் உள்ளிட்டவர்களில் பெரும்பாலானோர் புதுமுகங்கள் என்றாலும் எல்லோரும் பாத்திரத்திற்கு ஏற்ற தேர்வு! பிரமாத*மான நடிப்பு! சபாஷ்!!
சோகமான காதல் கதை! சோகமான முடிவை நோக்கித்தான் போகும்.. என தெரிந்தாலும் இத்தனை சோகம் ஆகாதப்பா... என உச் கொட்ட வைத்து விடும் இயக்குனர் ராஜ்மோகன், தன் முதல் படத்திலேயே நச், டச், இயக்குனர் என்று பெயரெடுத்து விட்டார். பேஷ், பேஷ்! கதை, திரைக்கதை, வசனம், இயக்கம் என நான்கு பொறுப்புகளை ஏற்று, பர்ஸ்ட் கிளாஸில் பாஸ் ஆகி விட்டிருப்பதுடன், இயல்பான வசனத்தில் செண்டமே வாங்கி விடுவது ராஜ் மோகனின் ஹைலைட்!
இயக்குனருக்கு யுவன் சங்கர்ராஜாவின் இசை, சித்தார்த்தின் ஒளிப்பதிவு, பாரவின் கே.எல்., மற்றும் ஸ்ரீகாந்தின் எடிட்டிங், அஜய் ராஜ், சரவண ராஜனின் நடனம், வித்தேஷின் கலை, எஸ்.பி.சரணின் தயாரிப்பு எல்லாம் பக்கபலமாக இருந்து பலம் தந்துள்ளது சிறப்பு! அடிக்கடி தண்ணி, சிகரெட் என பள்ளி மாணவர்கள் குடிப்பதையும், கூத்தடிப்பதையும் கூடுமானவரை தவிர்த்திருந்தால் மேலும் சிறப்பாய் இருந்திருக்கும் இந்த படம்.
நாகர்கோயில், முட்டம், தூத்துக்குடி பகுதிகளில் படமாக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும் குங்குமப்பூவும் கொஞ்சும் புறாவும் மீண்டும் ஒரு கடலோர கவிதைகள் என்றால் மிகையல்ல!
குங்குமப் பூவும் கொஞ்சும் புறாவும் - திரை உலக(ம்) வசூலில் மிஞ்சும் பாரும்!
