Engal Aasan, Captain Vijayakanth’s new movie, directed by Kalaimani, was launched today (March 12) in Chennai.
Vijayakanth, Kalaimani, Sabesh Murali (music director of the movie), Rama Narayanan, Sivasakthi Pandiyan, Khaja Moideen, S.V. Thangaraj (producer of the movie) and many others graced the occasion.

Major Personalities of the kollywood industry were present at the launch function. After the event of Pooja, Captain Vijayakanth shared few minutes with the Media. About this film, he said-'When we did Periyanna directed by SA Chandrasekhar,Produced by Subbiah and my friend Thangaraj. But due to some reasons Thangaraj stepped out of the project. After these many years i am happy to do a project for him.
I had plans to start up the project for Kanagarathna Movies,Ramesh Babu after my current project ARASANGAM. SInce, the new project with Mr.Ramesh Babu is getting delayed and at the same time my frind Thangaraj asked me dates, i was unable to dishonour him. In addition to this he added, for the past 8 years i dont enter the shooting spot on sundays eventhough i am off from chennai and in outdoor location. I am choosy in my projects, i get into the project which i feel comfortable. My film would have Political issues towards social events.
In Engal Aasan, i play in the role of a Bank Officer, two heroienes would play opposite to me. As per the story, Myself and One of the heroiene will encounter a difference of opinion on a major issue. It would have my twists and turns in addition to suspense elements. Reason for this difference of opinion leading to clash is the crux of the story.
The project would go on floors from March 20th 2008 at Pollachi. Captain plans to complete his portion in a single schedule.

On Wednesday (March 12), the 'pooja' of Vijaykanth's new film Engal Aasan was launched with a lot of fanfare at AVM studios in Chennai. Vijaykanth is at the moment doing a police thriller Arasangam.
Engal Aasan is going to be Vijaykanth's 149 th film and is directed by Kalaimani, a village specialist who has done Thai Porandachu earlier and is being produced by small time distributor turned producer Thankaraj who has made the hit film Sundara Travels.
Though the producer and director denies that there is no politics in Engal Aasan which they say is a "commercial village subject, something which 'captain' used to do during the 90's."
But the buzz is that the film is Captain's propaganda film to woo the farmers, a crucial vote bank for his political outfit. It is rumoured that 'Captain' is going to play a farmer in Engal Aasan, who fights against money lenders who exploit the farming community, leading to suicide among farmers.

The pooja for the 149th film of ‘Captain’ Vijaykanth was held today at the AVM Studios in Chennai with much fanfare. The film, titled Engal Aasaan, is produced by Thangaraj of Yuvasree Creations, who has earlier produced Sundara Travels and Meesai Madhavan. The director is Kalaimani, who has earlier directed Thai Porandhachu and Super Kudumbam. Velumani pens the dialogues and A. Venkatesh handles the cinematography. The heroine for the film has not yet been finalized. The director says that the film is a village subject and contains no politics. Shooting for the film will start on March 25 in Pollachi. Meanwhile, the captain will announce his 150th film on April 10. Vijaykanth is currently shooting for Arasangam, directed by Shankar’s assistant Madesh

After Arasangam, the new project of Captain Vijayakanth Engal Aasan has been launched by the actor today at AVM with a simple pooja. Produced by Thangaraj behalf of Youvasri Creations, the film has two heroines for Vijayakanth. According to RK Kalaimani, the director of the film, the names of the lead ladies will be announced in a day or two.
After the completion of pooja, Vijayakanth, the hero of the film said, "Thangaraj, the producer of the film is my long time friend. Actually, he was one of the producers of my earlier film Periyanna, directed by SA Chandrasekhar. But due to some reasons he had withdrawn himself from the project."
While answering a question about his choice of political based films, he said, "I never imposed such scenes in my films. In fact, I would like to prefer a family oriented story. But it happened like that. I never insist my directors to write punch dialogues for me. It just happened, that's all."
The shooting of Engal Aasan will commence from March 20th at Pollachi and the director is planned to complete the film in single schedule.

Vijayakanth who has been having a busy life in the cinematic field as well as in the political front has at last found some quality time to meet the press. Though he keeps meeting political journos during his political meetings it has been a real long time since he spent time with the cinema journalists. So when our man found some time with his press pals he decided to get into the meeting full throttle.
Vijayakanth met the press after the muhurat of his film 'Engal Aasan'. This actor-politician met the press making sure he was alone and none disturbed him, going to the extent of even sending his secretary away, to have an open and fulfilling chat with the media men. The actor also divulged that the hiatus in meeting the scribes from the film field was because of his tightly-packed political life. After chit-chatting away with the press, he inquired about Adiraj, a journalist from a leading magazine. The hero was told that Adiraj was now busily involved in directing a film titled 'Silanthi'.
When the captain heard this he was all praise for the journalist who has boldly come forward to make a film and encouraged all the press men gathered there to pray for the success of Adiraj's film. He was also happy that a person from the journalistic field had come forward to make a movie. Vijayakanth also congratulated the debutant director Adiraj and wished him well in his new venture.

Vijayakanth's message to the masses
Vijayakanth's movies are loaded with messages for the general public. An actor-turned-politician, his films portray him as a do-gooder fighting for a cause. Vijayakanth skillfully uses film as an opportunity to expose the evils prevailing in the society.
'Engal Aasaan', the forthcoming venture of Vijayakanth, would be no different. The movie will have him play a manager in a bank located in a village.

Speaking to reporters before his departure to shoot for his forthcoming flick 'Engal Aasaan' abroad, Vijayakanth said, 'I have known producer S V Thangaraj for a long time. We have been planning to do a film for a long time now and finally we are realizing it with 'Engal Aasaan'.
'I play a bank manager who creates awareness among the masses about co-operative banks. The character I play wages a battle with wrongdoers who happen to be influential men who take it upon themselves to swindle money from banks', he added.
Directed by debutant Kalaimani, the movie features Sheryll Brindo, Vikranth, Suja, Akshaya among others in the cast. Sabesh – Murali has scored the music.
'We are planning to shoot some songs abroad. What started as a small budget movie has become a huge film today', the actor adds.
Sheryl Brindo and Vikranth also spoke on the occasion. Vikranth said, it was a great experience being part of a Vijayakanth film. He is very co-operative and guided me to get my act right. But for his encouragement I would not have given my best'.

Sheryll Brindo, who made her debut acting with Vijayakanth in 'Arasangam' is on song right now. She managed to bag the female lead in Vijayakanth's forthcoming venture 'Engal Aasaan'. Even before the movie has been completed, she has been chosen to act with Sundar C for a movie titled 'Vaada'.
Interestingly 'Vaada' would be directed by A Venkatesh, who is known for his racy masala entertainers. Sheryll Brindo has replaced Bollywood girl Geetha Basra, who was the original choice to play heroine but then had to pull out because of other commitments. Sheryll has stepped into her shoes now.
Shooting for the movie is on at Ooty. D Imman, who is composing music for the film has remixed the yesteryear racy number 'Ennadi Rakkama' from the Sivaji starrer 'Pattikada Pattanamma'.
Sundar C is probably the busiest hero in Tamil Cinema today with several films under his belt.

Vijaykanth mouths MGR's words in Engal aasan
The film deals with a bank scam and Ramki plays the head of the co-operative bank which is cheating the public with their scams. Vijaykanth plays a bank officer who cleans up the system.
The surprise element in the film was the announcement made by Vijaykanth, “I have delivered MGR’s famous dialogue from Ayirathil Oruvan which starts with 'Matham konda yaanai..' since everyone wanted me to do it. It is also in a very important situation in the film.” So is this an attempt to instil the impression of a 'Karuppu MGR’ in the minds of the people, asked a scribe. “Not at all, I have made no such attempt,” came the reply. “It is for the audiences to decide who is what.”
Judging by the upbeat mood in this filmi camp, it sure look like they have a winner on their hands.

It's good news for Vijayakanth fans. 'Engal Aasaan' starring Vijayakanth, Sheryll Brindo and Vikranth will be released this January.
The movie produced by S V Thangaraj and directed by Kalaimani is a mix of action, romance and comedy. The shooting for the movie was wound up recently.
Sources say the movie has emerged as a quality entertainer and would hit the screens on January next year.

Vijayakanth plays the lead character in “Engal Aasaan”, directed by Kalaimani and produced by S.V. Thangaraj under the banner of Yuvasri Pictures.
The story revolves around the country’s banking system. A big majority of the unlettered rural masses are still unaware of the working of the banks and so they are not able to take advantage of the benefits of banking. Protagonist Vijayakanth (Mahendran) takes on himself the mission of creating awareness among the villagers about the facilities provided by the banks and also works to raise the standard of living of the rural people.
Seril Brindo, who played an important character role in Vijayakanth-starrer “Arasangam”, is the heroine in “Engal Aasaan”.
Vikranth and ‘Kalaba Kadalan’ Ashaya act as the young lovers. There is a ‘kuthu’ dance featuring Suja, who also has a crush on Vikranth, but her love is one-sided.
Says Kalaimani, ‘I thank Vijayakanth sir, who gave his utmost co-operation to me in spite of his busy political schedules. He was very encouraging and helped us complete the movie on time’. The story is narrated in the backdrop of romance. But there is no bloodshed, no sound of gunfire and no bomb blasts, says Kalaimani.

Engal Asan could be out of Pongal race
The Vijayakanth starrer Engal Asan seems to be in deep trouble with the Metro Audios' Kaja Moihdeen and Seventh Channel's Manickam Narayanan filing a petition in the High Court seeking a stay in the release of the film. According the petitioners the film's producer Thangaraj had borrowed several lakhs of rupees from them to complete the film, but failed to return the amount even after a number of reminders. On hearing the petition, the Judge ordered the defendant to file a counter on or before January 21st.
The case is posted for hearing on the same date. With the Pongal releases scheduled for this week, it seems near to impossible for Egnal Asan to make it on time.

I have already posted that, Engal Aasan might become hit , if it was released on Pongal. The reason I had is, "edhirthu poatti poduravan weak-ah irundha padhi jeicha madhiri" ... as expected Villu gets -ve reviews from some of Hub's HC Vijay fans (& their Kuruvi review does match with its BO result) ... now only padikkathavan is left.
May be, Engal Aasan might compete with Nan Kadavul & Captains B&C powers are well known fact!!!!!!!!!!

This is going to be one helluva weekend for Captain Vijayakanth
His long-delayed Engal Asan is all set to hit the screens this friday. Just when he is about to breathe a sigh of relief, he will start campaigning for his party for the forthcoming election.
In Engal Asan, Vijayakanth plays a bank officer who takes upon the moneylender mafia, who are making life miserable for the farmers. He gives money at a subsidised interest rate to the poor and thus, becomes a messiah.
The film, produced and directed by Thangaraj, has newcomer Ramki playing the negative shade.
Vikranth is playing an important role in the film where he romances Suja and Aksahya. Sheryl Brendo, who debuted in Vijayakanth’s Arasangam, is playing the female lead. Sabesh-Murali have scored the music for this mass entertainer.
It is rumoured that captain repeats a dialogue in the film, which was made famous by MGR in his Aayirathil Oruvan. With this gimmick, captain is sure to reach across to the MGR vote bank. Now, is that what we call, hitting two birds with one stone?

If it was released on March 13th ... latest advt.. then before the release of Mariyadhai (Apr 10) there is a gap of 4 weeks.. it is more than enough for a min. budget film like Engal Aasan.... but now I donno when it will be released

Your fav actor (or for that matter anyone with some political aspirations) will find the going a lot tougher with theaters in the future, because I heard from someone that Sun kuzhumam is buying off many of them, especially in smaller cities and towns.
So, they'll control which movie gets released, who gets paid how much etc. They'll promote the likes of Nakul / Jeeva who'll do anything asked by Sun pics. OTOH, even RK could get a lot of irritations from that side (kusElan episode is a case in point and his next venture is sold off to Sun by whoever has started) and I think even AVM wants to play it safe for the moment by focussing on Telugu only (despite their last couple of products being big hits in TN).

A_Engine, couple of sumall nitpicks. AVM had a release in between Sivaji and Ayan - "a Aa e Ee" which was a colossal flop. And they are the producers of Vijay's next, vEttaikkAran. So they are very much in the business. And what they made through Ayan is peanuts in comparison with what "Sun" pictures made.

Captain Vijayakanth who hadn’t tasted better success pinned more expectations on ‘Engal Aasan’. Perhaps, this film is somewhat good in terms of story, but takes us back to the days of 80s where a hero is the savior of innocent villagers. Director S.R.K. Kalai Mani has come up with such a storyline that doesn’t evoke a new feel amongst the audiences.
What stops the film making it big in box office? Director Kalai Mani delineates the character of ‘Ilavarasu’ who keeps singing appraisals of Vijayakanth all throughout the film. But mark our words! This film is far better than Vijaykanth’s previous film ‘Mariyadhai’.
The film features Captain Vijayakanth in the role of a bank officer named Mahendran who is transferred to the branch of Village Nilakottai to sort out the perplexing situation of bank fraud carried on by a big shot Marthandan (Debutant Ramki). Over there, he happens to find out that Marthandan has borrowed loan of worth Rs.25Crores in the name of villagers.
Mahendran -his colleagues (Sriman and Ilavarasu) approach Marthandan to return back the money that he had illegally borrowed. When refused, he assures of arresting Marthandan and the very next day, Mahendran and his colleagues are pushed down in shock for the entire bank is burnt down and they are dismissed. Now, Mahendran together with his mates tries to reveal the true color of Marthandan and prove of their innocence.
If the heroisms-bounded punch dialogues and sidekicks praising about his good nature; If these things were eliminated, the film would’ve been a pleasing entertainer. Vijayakanth as usual comes up with his own identity while Sheryl Brindo deviates away from her previous film. Vikranth has nothing to do while Suja has found her way finally as a supporting actress.
Musical score by Sabesh-Murali is mediocre and other technical parts: Editing and Cinematography could’ve been better.
‘Engal Aasan’ has less probabilities of surviving in box office. With no prior announcements or publicities made about the film’s release and with the film getting released just in outskirts of Chennai, it doesn’t seem to be a good one for Vijayakanth.
Verdict: Below Average.

so, the advt enabled by TM... is for Trichy & Tanjore region, in which they are going to release tomorrow

Logic 1: In chennai city, they are yet to release the film... once they pay their debt to the concerned financier... it will be allowed to release in chennai
Logic 2: at any time... if they release the film in chennai... then it means.. the producer earned some money by releasing EA in other cities...
Logic 3: If EA is loss for producer.. then there is no point in releasing a product in chennai, which failed all over TN
