Is tamil films losing their identity?

Back in the 1980s mid 90s , there was a lot of films setting based on rural life. But now it is more concentrated on the glamourous urban lifestlye. some of the urban lifestlye potrayed in tamil films is totally unrealistic.

For example the punjabis have their bhangras and thats how they promote their identity and culture.

in tamil films , all i see is tamil language but it gets a bit irritating sometimes when a lot of english words used.

therefore i'm asking the question is tamil films losing their identity and culture?

Roja !! Pls add "NO" in your poll-options !! Cos I DONT THINK Tamil cinema is losing its identity ... It's always had, has, and will have its own ... There might be influences from other language movies, but at the end of the day, if the director doesnt add certain Tamil elements, I think it won't work with the masses !!!

yup by costume, music, and by other concepts like living together but few directors like cheran, bala etc are still stick to our nativity and reality.

times are changing swathy constumes and music needs to be changed.... tell me how many ppl are wearing sarees as its used to be in 60s and 70s ..... moreover how many people are still preferring Joint family rather they go for nuclear family and many doesnt know who are staying in the next apartment

Btw, is identity limited to jus dressing (apart from language wich is obv.)?

As reg. this, the only cultural identity tat Tamil films today seem to be preserving is in the case of men- u cud still find chances of the leading star (mostly Rajni tho) appearing in a Veshti whereas in Bollywood (& now even Telugu films) u cudnt think it 'expected' for the hero to appear in a Dhoti (exceptions r viz. Shahrukh in Paheli- tat too bcos tat role of his demanded it!) or even a Kurta-Pyjama (trend wich seemed to hav restricted to Rajesh Khanna alone!)......
U may point out actresses in Tamil films too in this regard, but we cud understand very well y they r still made to wear Sarees/Half-Sarees......jus watch sum of those masala songs/scenes () if u dont!

yeah....the culture is also changing....and the colour of film also changes..

the tamilnadu villages are getting urban colour ....

regarding identity...barathiraja,mahendran etc..showed their identity!

now bala,selvaragavan,cheran etc...

but the number of good films released is reduced!

chennai is the most safe metropolitan city...but this guy described it as a mafia centre!

pan parag ravi,pattasu baalu...

kashtapattu chennai police law and ordera maintain panna ivaru ishtathukku kadhai ezhudharadhu!

those films doesnt resemble the tamilnadu situation and culture exactly

Well, personally I don't think tamil films are losing their identity...rather just changing some aspects to suit their changing surroundings in the modern world...if using lthe English anguage and modernization as a whole classifies as giving up identity...then indian films in general are doing that, not only tamil...
