imho Nirav shah whilst being a eye candy DOP suffers from the disease of getting caught with one's own craft..his look-at-me DOP shots eventhough makes for an exhilarating viewing exp sometimes it dampens the story telling..I wish he goes a bit easy on Fisheye lens which makes me drowsy
Wizzy, I was replying to your post when you were associating thirruttu kalyanam with Shadows, which is not true but it is merely a fact that it is just his style of photography.
Infact I liked the hindi version for its colors as I see marriage as a colorful event. Just my opinion.

Freedom,
I've read an interview by cinematographer Ravivarman, who said the same thing as Wizzy. PC chose to show it in dark instead of usual bright colors because it's a thiruttu kalyanam (idhai eppadi English-la solradhu).

I liked the way how he captured Janakaraj's expression in between the two back shoulders

^Raj video vision print ellama darkae thaen theriyum!
on a serious note the AN version we get to see on TV is color graded due to telecine to an extent that you can see ghosts in rajathi raja song
another movie which suffered the same fate is Roja where the initial shots of wasim khan shootout/chinna chinna Asai would look washed out.
Had you seen this movies in theaters you would be able to see the difference.

One of the most fascinating, unforgettable shots during my kiddy days is from Roja
only later I came to see this
A clear case of inspiration still holds good.
