"I found the content of cow dung high in the soil they were using, so I asked them to get it from Hissar, which had a larger clay content. I thought the the pitch in the odi match against england looked good. Even though on the slower side in the first innings, i found the pitch to be markedly better than the earlier ones used in the world cup.

Ashwin to Bravo, OUT, 82.3 kph, Ashwin gets Bravo again, a tactic that Harbhajan uses so well against the left-handers in Tests, tossed up from round the stumps, dragging him forward in defence, he pushes outside the line for the turn, there isn't much and he is rapped on the pad, will have to wait for the replays, looked in line with the stumps in real time, umpire Tucker thought so too, replays show that struck him in line with off, fine decision |

Killjoy Plum says:
here's a previous occasion a tamizhan spinner took 5 wickets on debut VV Kumar played a total of two tests. Romba pazhaiya kadhai illai? Fast forward to 1984. Sivaramakrishnanu oru ambi...took 6 for 3 times in his first two matches. Finished with hardly 20 more wickets. This can still go wrong in a million ways for Ashwin. Sari idhu dhaan paravaillai. Oru gujarati paya 8-fer, 16-fer eduthaapla on debut. But he chose. Chepauk for that and the jinx consumed him. Hirwani is making a decent living now as selector.(No counter jibes quoting a former TN off spinner, later umpire will be entertained. Let's be pessimistic)

This quote sums up Weed's problems “A player like Harbhajan, who has played for India for over 10 years, need not worry too much about not getting wickets. Sometimes you bowl well and do not get wickets. I think the surface was not conducive to his bowling. He is trying his best and has positive attitude,” said Rathore. When you start blaming the pitch to get wickets in domestic cricket then you are really scratching at the bottom of the barrel.
Ashwin reminds me of former tall off spinner from Pak Arshad khan..who was upstaged by Saqlain Mushtaq and his clons..not a big turner..bowls wkt-wkt and got a whole lot of lbws.

This 100th ton is a freakin gorilla not a monkey. Inadvertently even I have been expecting tendulkar to score a 100 everytime he walks into the crease, which is ridiculous. I would like this 100th Ton come in Australia in SCG or MCG, preferably MCG.

Actually, it is just a number. When he scores the ton, my reaction will be "idhellAm avarukku sarva sAdhAraNam". Actually, it is a much bigger deal for cottage industries dependent on him - like, newspaper editors, TV News Channels, Twitter smarties, Bloggers Utd etc. Knocks like that 76 last test are worth their weight in Gold and more of that are fine until the century arrives. Let's let it rest. Personally, I would like that to happen in Chennai but a Chennai match is a long way away so maybe as AF said, MCG or SCG would be nice. Even Kolkata is fine - but def.ly not Mumbai. The ingrates don't deserve even this notional honour

PressureA? Not any more than 2008, when he had to erase the memory of a bad world cup; not as much as 2004, when he had to come out of a form slump; not as much as 99, when he was the freaking captain of a team that had about 0.43 players' worth of competence in the other 14 players; not as much as 1991 when, uh, it was his first big test overseas. Let's stop obsessing about this 100 - it doesn't matter where/when he gets it as long as he keeps scoring match winning/match saving knocks. And if he is not doing even that, I am sure he'll put in the papers. And his career will be none the less glittering for it.

He scored 200 out of the blue when people least expected, nobody thought that he will cross Lara when he was going through a slump in 2006-07. Look at his conversion and success rate after that slump.
He will eventually score. As Osho said "thEdudhalai niruththungaL, thEduvadhu kidaikkum"

"I am not pleased yet with what I have done," Tendulkar, who has scored a record 12773 Test runs at an average of 54.58 from 159 matches, said in an interview with the
Wisden Cricketer. "Sunil Gavaskar has told me that I have to get to 15,000 runs. He said he would be angry with me and would come and catch me if I didn't. I admire him so much and to score that many would be a terrific achievement, but that is not the only aim." His other big cricketing ambition is to "win the World Cup in 2011".

This is how the “Bhajji Defense Program” works:IF (Argument = Anti-Bhajji) ThenDo{
- You cannot compare finger and wrist spinner
- Bhajji had no supporting pace attack
- Bhajji had no spinner friendly pitches
- Pace attack was smashed cannot blame Bhajji
- Performances Vs SL-Pak – teams not worth including
- I can compare Ishaant a pace bowler to prove Bhajji’s superiority, if you do so, well you are wrong in comparing pace and spin
- I can compare Warne, Murali, Kumble, Swann and Bhajji – if you do so – do you not understand points 1 & 2?
- Bhajji will only take wickets when he has good supporting bowlers, groom Ashwin/Ojha to help Bhajji get back to form
- Bhajji did not get wickets – he was being defensive and stemming the run flow
- Bhajji went for too many runs – he was taking risks in trying to get wickets

DH, A2G..have my doubts on Gambhir as a batsman he is touted to be..I have seen Rohit/Kohli get 100s against OZ on a spicy Hyd wicket during 2008/09 season..the OZ attack had Lee,Mitchell,Siddle,Clark in their pump and they went all out in the first innings..even Kohli was hurried at times but Rohit was at ease facing them..as always the Yuvi feasted in the 2nd innings when OZ were taking it easy and was hitting the offie all over the park
the only issue is his uttar pradesh and often gets out to lazy shots..Fletcher rates Rohit>Kohli so wouldn't be surprised if he gets to play the third test.

Rohit is the best batsmen available in India in terms of technique. No questions asked. His 70 odd against a seaming Ozzie attack when everybody around him folded in T-20 WC 2010 was fantastic.
Kohli has made the most runs by maximizing his talent. His appetite is good. His temperament is yet to grow.

I rate Rohit higher on technique but Kohli has the best mix of reasonable technique, reasonable temparament, iron will, a little IT factor, charisma and luck. Rohit is mentally lazy and is bound to go the lazy way - if he can atleast emulate Laxman, that will be a huge achievement. Pujara is ideally the next Dravid but destiny doesn't seem to like him much - I mean one ipl match injuring him enough to keep him out of first class for months? What kind of rotten luck is that?

Ashwin reinforces the cliche of the ‘cerebral south Indian cricketer’—he’s very confident and English-articulate, smoothly slipping in terms like “hip movement”, “airspeed”, “revolutions” on the ball he puts. Subramaniam says his other wards come and ask him if they could try something different—“But Ashwin comes and
tells me that he’s got results from trying something different.”

Kohli could have been given 3 tests instead of wasting 2 tests on Yuvi. Really, couldn't they have moved ahead? We did jettison Badri as a relic of the lost generation no? Why couldn't they do that to first class minnow limited overs giant Yuvi? Scrambled are our selectors' heads. It is still limited overs performance that is getting ashwin, kohli etc into the team. If they succeed, it will not be a vindication of that policy.

Thappaa purinjukiteenga. Sachin doesn't need a thaar road nor a weak opposition but ivanga ennOda ground-la century pOtta 100 thanga kaasu-nnu ellam kappithanamaa announce paNNi adhu moolamaa mileage vaanga try paNNraapla thOnudhu.
If that's their intention shame on them, for not understanding cricket, let alone Sachin. It just takes a good ball or moment of concentration lapse for Sachin (or any other batsman) to get out. Flat pitches are not new to Indian cricket and speculations like this disrespect Sachin the player, even if it's not your intention

Ravi shastri 'expert commentator ' reckons its a 2nd days pitch atm and that it would get slower and harder as the match progresses. Unless india bats poorly i don't see a result.Shame on the administrators.Test the pitch for at least two or three domestic test games i say before naming the ground as a venue.....thirunthavae maatanga....

Every test series should have a match in Chennai. Irundhirundhaa(like English players play 2 Lords matches every year, Aussies assured of 2 Sydney/Melb matches every year which helps the likes of Ponti, Cook etc), Sachin's century tally would have been much higher. Our stupid board cannot see that some venues deserve regular tests in every series

BCCI Awards: Dravid to get 'Polly Umrigar' Trophy
PTI | Nov 23, 2011, 01.04PM IST
NEW DELHI:
Veteran batsman Rahul Dravid will be bestowed the 'Polly Umrigar Award for India's best cricketer of 2010-11' season during the BCCI's annual awards ceremony to be held on December 10 in Chennai.
The 38-year-old Dravid, who scored 1258 runs in 15 Tests at an average of 53 this season, pulled off six hundreds during the year.
Dravid was the star of India's disastrous tour of England earlier this year, which cost India the top spot in the ICC Test rankings after they were whitewashed 0-4.

India women's team captain Jhulan Goswami will also be honoured at the annual awards. The pacer will be awarded the 'M A Chidambaram Best Woman Cricketer of 2010-11' trophy for claiming 21 wickets in eight matches, including a five-for.

No need for Ashwin to feel cheated: Gambhir
Ravichandran Ashwin was on Thursday censured by Gautam Gambhir for criticizing the wicket at the Wankhede stadium, the venue of the third and final Test between India and the West Indies.
The young spinner had expressed disappointment over the nature of the wicket after the visitors batted for two full days, and the Indian bowlers unable to make an impact
'You can't expect the wicket to turn on the first day of a Test match, but I was definitely expecting some bounce. So I felt cheated on that regard,' Ashwin had said, after the second day's play, criticizing the wicket, which he felt resembled one that is used in domestic cricket.
The third day's play though witnessed the 26-year-old complete a five-wicket haul (5-156) -- his second in three Tests following his six for 47 at Kotla -- and end the West Indies' innings at 590.
India ended the day comfortably-placed on 281 for 3.
"There's nothing to be heartbroken about," said Gambhir, berating his younger teammate.
"A bowler needs to bowl on every kind of wicket. A batsman never says he is heartbroken if it is a green top. They simply play on any wicket," he added.
Gambhir, who scored 55 and shared vital partnerships with Virender Sehwag (67 for the first wicket) and Rahul Dravid (71 for the second), said bowling in any condition is part of a learning experience for the spinner.
"There will be many occasions where he will have to bowl on wickets that are more flat than this one," explained the opener, adding, "So there is no need to feel cheated.
"It is a great challenge and everyone should try to accept it and get the best out of the same.
"That's what Test cricket is all about. You don't get a five-wicket haul or a hundred easily. You need to work hard for it."
Having said that the ace opener expressed confidence in Ashwin's abilities.
"He has taken two five-wicket hauls in this series and has a great future ahead," he declared.

It does seem like some people in the team were waiting to pounce on Ashwin and he has given them an opening. As Hamid said, same fellers kept backing Harby when he blamed ball type, umpires, sachin, dhoni, even he said that he couldn't take wickets because Saffers "weren't here on vacation"
(appO vacationla varavanga wicket dhaan eduppaarama? ). Same fellers are pouncing on Ashwin. Even newborn will know why. Imo, if Ashwin does bad in one or two tests, Harby will be back. Shastrivaal campaign also has started. See how nakedly they are doing this. Adhaan north indies

"Must ask why did it take Ashwin so long to get a Test Match, very impressed with him, has spirit and can play cricket, you just wonder why it took so long for him to get a game" Robert Brown, the man he replaced is the leading wicket-taker among non-retired bowlers today. It takes a bold move to drop such names

One of the comments received for the article "Tendulkar's dismissal was planned - Rampaul" in Cricinfo.com
It just shows even after 22 years of cricket, how much it means to the bowlers to get the master out. Very shrewd thinking by Rampaul, he did look surprised by that delivery. Good cricket all round.

Ashwin, Ojha
. I think this is the first time Dhoni has advised Ashwin on bowling length, speed, etc. Maybe a stamp of approval/acceptance over you-know-who
.
Target should be easy to reach. No excuses if we don't go for the target this time.

India have left out Harbhajan Singh from the squad for the Test series in Australia, picking Pragyan Ojha and R Ashwin as the spinners in the 17-man group. Medium-pacer Praveen Kumar, who was part of the team in England, returns to the squad in place of legspinner Rahul Sharma, who was part of the squad for the ongoing Test series against West Indies but did not play a match.
Wriddhiman Saha was named as reserve wicketkeeper, while Zaheer Khan, who is recovering from hamstring and ankle injuries, will join the team subject to match fitness.
Squad: MS Dhoni (capt &wk), Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Virat Kohli, R Ashwin, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Varun Aaron, Rohit Sharma, Pragyan Ojha, Praveen Kumar, Ajinkya Rahane, Wriddhiman Saha, Zaheer Khan (subject to fitness).

Even English Bloggers can predict Harby Speaking to us in a fictional interview, Harbhajan reacted to Ashwin’s hundred and five-for against the Windies in Mumbai by saying: “Obviously, as a senior player, I’m delighted for him. It’s great to see that I’ve mentored these youngsters so well and if they ever want more advice, they know they can count on me as a senior player.“His performance in this match brings to mind my own in Cape Town earlier in the year. As a senior player, I made a whirlwind 40 and took 7-195 on a pitch that was tougher for both batting and bowling than this one.“Hopefully, one day, Ashwin will become a senior player and will replicate such astonishing feats. Also, while we’re on this subject, I think it’s important to emphasise that I’m a senior player.” 4 Appeals

some positive tweets:
2 man of the matches, man of the series, twice 9 wickets haul and a hundred as well - what more you can expect from a debuting guy.

still not convinced with our batting..should have pummeled this Windies side to submission but we managed to concede lead twice in this series. No big scores from top 4 is a worry, especially the openers who have thrown their wickets away against a mediocre bowling side. Ishant for all his work doesn't have anything to show in his wickets column..Umesh's bowling was a major positive and Dhoni's struggles against Sammy are
and his percentage shots doesn't work in tests and for all his grit his batting does show up against quality bowling sides..hope better sense prevails in OZ and he swaps his position with Ashwin who seem to possess a better technique to hold up a end.

Ashwin tops India's report card
Two handsome wins and a thrilling draw against West Indies later, MS Dhoni and company seem
to have left the nightmares of the England tour behind. Here is the review of the performances of each Indian player during the current series...
R Ashwin (9/10): Player of the series and find of the year. A century and two five wicket hauls with a total of 22 wickets in three Tests. What more could one ask from a rookie off-spinner playing his first Test series.
Pragyan Ojha (8/10): Bowled with cunning and confidence. It's a pleasure watching him flight the ball and beating batsmen sometimes in the air, sometimes off the pitch. His superb spell of six for 72 in the first innings at Kotla put India on the winning track. Overall haul 20 wickets. And yes, don't forget the 14 balls he defended to help Ashwin get his ton.
Virat Kohli (8/10): The Delhi youngster earned his spurs, especially with that wonderful 63 that almost won India the Test. Not a finished article yet but his temperament is proven.
Umesh Yadav (8/10): Deserved to win the man of the match in second Test for bowling his heart out and ending up with a match figure of seven for 103 in placid Eden Gardens. Whips up decent pace with his fluent, clean action. Could be a long distance horse if he keeps improving.
VVS Laxman (7.5/10): His unbeaten 58 was a valuable assist in India's victory at Kotla. And his monumental 176 was pivotal to India's formidable total at Eden.
Rahul Dravid (7.5/10): Solid as a rock and good as gold. With scores of 54, 31, 119, 82 and 33 - he continues to be India's batsman No.1. One only hopes he continues in the same vein in Australia.
Virender Sehwag (7/10): In five innings, the Nawab of Najafgarh's highest score is 60, the lowest being 37. In between he has 55, 55 and 38 to his name. Which means he has recovered form but is not concentrating hard enough. His half-centuries in the Kotla Test, though, was crucial to the team's hard-fought win. The good news is that he is completely fit after the shoulder surgery.
Sachin Tendulkar (7/10): Kept the nation waiting for that elusive 100th ton again. His dismissal at 94 was one of the saddest moments of the series. His classy 76 in the second innings at Kotla was key to India's win.
MS Dhoni (7/10): Failed with the bat barring a powerpacked 144 off 175 balls which ensured that India had plenty of time to bowl out the oppositiontwice in the second Test. More importantly, rediscovered wicket-keeping form and effected a couple of smart stumpings. Led calmly and admirably from the front.
Varun Aaron (6.5/10): Nice to see a young Indian pacer bowl regular at 140 kph even at heartless Wankhede. Will be a decent back-up in Australia.
Gautam Gambhir (6/10): The other Delhi opener too showcased a range of middling knocks that promised much more than they finally delivered. Was unlucky to be given out on 55 when he was looking good in the first innings at Wankhede. Should resist tendency to be over-aggressive.
Ishant Sharma (5.5/10): Gets full mark for effort with the ball, and for his gritty lower-order batting act. Now he needs to bowl more often at the stumps and get some wickets too. Five wickets in 109 overs isn't good enough.
Yuvraj Singh (3/10): Looked out of sorts: short of confidence. Scores of 23, 18 and 25 could have got him another chance in 1970s, not these days. The tumour in his left lung perhaps played on his mind.

R Ashwin to get Dilip Sardesai award
R Ashwin, the India offspinner, will be given the Dilip Sardesai award for being the best performer in the home Test series against West Indies.
Ashwin was the Man of the Series in his debut series, which India won 2-0, taking 22 wickets at an average of 22.90. He claimed nine wickets on debut in Delhi, won two Man-of-the-Match awards, and also scored 121 runs at an average of 40.33. He made his maiden century in the third Test in Mumbai, where he steered India to a tense draw in the fourth innings.
He will be given the award at the BCCI awards ceremony in Chennai in December.
The BCCI instituted the Dilip Sardesai Award in 2007 for the player who performs best in bilateral series between India and West Indies. Ishant Sharma was given the award for India's tour of the Caribbean earlier this year.

I made a similar comment when someone criticised Sachin for playing a paddle sweep during his 175 - "Even if he had left three stumps in bowler's view and got bowled, no one should say anything". It's actually like crediting him for bringing the match thus far.

Jadeja to Sammy, OUT, 90.0 kph, Gone. Jadeja's turn to slip in the arm ball past a confused West Indies batsmen with neither the footwork nor the eye to deal with such variations. no flowery replies..Sehwag
"In India you hardly see the team tottering at 59 for 5. Hopefully we will come up with strong batting performances in the next games," Sehwag said after the match. "We have to learn from our mistakes. There were two good balls. The ball came in and we [Virat Kohli and I] played early and made mistakes."
Sehwag was critical of the "soft dismissals" of Parthiv Patel, Gautam Gambhir and Suresh Raina, which left India on 59 for 5 in the 12th over. "There were three soft dismissals of Parthiv Patel, Gautam Gambhir and Suresh Raina. There is no excuse for anybody not scoring runs. We have to back our batting. We have some exciting youngsters playing for last three four years. But I am happy with bowling and fielding."
I love to play in smaller towns. People give so much respect and love. They bring all kinds of food and stuff to you to make sure you are happy

Not sure if you read about this, Graham Thorpe England's batting coach is setting up a camp for the English batsman in India for 10 days. This is to help them combat spin, Strauss, Prior, Morgan et all coming this week ->

48.6
Mithun to Sammy, 2 runs, 130.8 kph, another swing, gets the ball to midwicket, should have only been a single, Kohli fields and throws at the non-striker's end, giving away an overthrow
48.5
Mithun to Sammy, SIX, 129.0 kph, and another one, West Indies building up a decent total here, a full toss on the pads, clubbed over midwicket for six more, lost count of the number of runs this over
48.4
Mithun to Sammy, SIX, 133.3 kph, what a shot that is from Sammy! outstanding, again Mithun puts it on a length, width as well, pummelled over cover for six, this is an incredible hit from Sammy
48.3
Mithun to Sammy, no run, 132.6 kph, Sammy taking guard outside off, he wanted to launch this dot ball out of the park, doesn't connect and the ball goes through to the keeper
48.2
Mithun to Sammy, FOUR, 107.4 kph, another length ball, another swat, another boundary, wide of long-on this time, not the best length from Mithun here
48.1
Mithun to Sammy, FOUR, 132.4 kph, how did Sammy manage to get that away for four, it was full and very very wide, somehow Sammy didn't just reach it, he managed to get enough power on it to chop it past deep backward point for four
48.1
Mithun to Sammy, 1 wide, 135.9 kph, he starts with a wild delivery well outside off

Yadav to Russell, 2 runs
49.5
Yadav to Russell, 2 runs, 144.2 kph, not a boundary this time, another muscular hit down the ground, Umesh gets a bott in the way, the ball ricochets toward mid-on, Russell scampers through for two
49.4
Yadav to Russell, SIX, 118.7 kph, ten overs ago we were headed for a low-scoring one-sided match, not anymore, thrashes this one towards the commentary box, straight and powerful hit
49.3
Yadav to Russell, 2 runs, 144.4 kph, gets the front leg out of the way and swings hard at it, a top edge and that swirls over the infield and towards deep backward point
49.2
Yadav to Russell, FOUR, 141.5 kph, four more, carnage here, and this was a poor delivery, a nice full toss on leg stump, clubbed past long-on for four
49.1
Yadav to Russell, FOUR, 140.8 kph, brilliant hit this, Umesh bowls a full delivery, Russell can't get under it but somehow manages to get enough power as he whacks that dead straight, long-on and long-off converge but not quick enough to stop the ball
Russell

I actually wanted Sachin's record to be intact and wanted Sehwag to break Lara's 400.
In many ways I think Sachin on top of the pile in ODIs will kinda reflect his mastery in the format - through its various eras. I think - and I will not defend against counterargument - that Sehwag is in aberration in every which way - though quite an enjoyable one at that. More a reflection of the point when ODI became a different being - that could no longer sustain my interest. Galore of 170+ scores.
So overall, sad only. I remember the kudhoogalam when Sachin got it. I feel nothing now.
But I know I will get over it. I remember being sore when Sehwag got the first 300. I so badly wanted Sachin to be the first there. The only time I wouldn't've been disappointed was if Laxman had gotten there in 2001, considering the occasion etc (even that I am not so sure :P )
But in no time I was cheering for him - Sehwag is such a delightful rascal - you just can't not like him, even if you tried.
I was very annoyed when he got out at 293 last year, return catch to Murali. I wanted him to get on level with Bradman - third triple.

Sehwag has hardly batted for more than 40 overs in an ODI and I believe every time he does that records are going to tumble.

Well, he already had a chance against Bangla but incredibly, Smith declared even though 3 more days were left - enouhg time to skittle Bangla six times, let alone twice. If SA had played until 4th evening Kalis might have broken the record. And still SA could have won the match. Lack of broad mindedness - perhaps jealousy - on Smith's part stopped it from happening...

Sehwag's "comfort break" raises eyebrows at Lord's
Mumbai, Dec. 10 : The world may have been bowing down to Sehwag but few are wondering what were the "wholly acceptable reasons" for which Virender Sehwag, the stand-in Team India captain, was allowed to have a substitute fielder throughout the West Indies innings following his world record batting of 219 runs in the last ODI at Indore.
The International Cricket Council (ICC), in its new rules, has not only put a ban on runners for injured batsmen, but the "comfort breaks" for fielders have also been prohibited.
"Yes, Sehwag did not come on field in the second half of the match and the team was led by Gautam Gambhir", confirmed renowned cricket statistician Mohandas Menon.
Fraser Stewart, the Laws & Universities Manager for the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), the custodian for the laws of the game said, "The laws are very clear on this. The umpires should only allow a substitute fielder if he is ill or injured. Tiredness would not count. A substitute fielder shall not be allowed when a fielder even leaves the field to go to the toilet."
Stewart said the ICC has included an additional paragraph in its regulations as well. It states, "Under Law 2.2.3, substitute fielders shall only be permitted in cases of injury, illness or other wholly acceptable reasons.
'Wholly acceptable reasons' should be limited to extreme circumstances and should not include what is commonly referred to as a 'comfort break'." The MCC law expert said substitutes would not be allowed at any cost. "Even if a player wants to change his shirt, boots, etc. he will not be provided a substitute," Stewart added.
"I wonder whether Sehwag batted with the injury and was denied the runner as per new law. The extreme reason for allowing fielder may be the illness off the field," the former ICC umpire Steve Bucknor said from Jamaica.
"The senior players get away with the excuses when they perform well on the field and certainly the tiredness cannot be the excuse to remain off the field", another BCCI umpire said on condition of anonymity. "The tired Viru may have dropped few catches if had fielded. To some extent, yes, this is indeed the fact that the West Indies team is deprived of".
"If Viru was injured he was justified in not fielding. If he was not, he could have taken rest for 15 to 20 minutes. But he should have come on the field after that. The Laws of cricket should specify such irregularity. However, I am not sure whether he was carrying an injury and did not want to tell anyone," said Kersi Meher-Homji, the historian of the game.
