Yusuf, Pragyan get a call as Ganguly ignored for ODI team again

Mumbai: Indian selectors have rewarded all-rounder Yusuf Pathan and Pragyan Ojha for their excellent performance in the IPL.

The selection panel met here Friday to pick the team for next month's ODI tri-series in Bangladesh and the subsequent Asia Cup in Pakistan, two tournaments for which Sachin Tendulkar has been ruled out because of injury. While Tendulkar is still recovering from a groin injury, pacer Zaheer Khan is also likely to sit out for the week-long Bangladesh tour because of an ankle injury.

There was a strong possibility that the five-member selection panel may draft in a few young players, who have made their presence felt in the ongoing Indian Premier League, for the Bangladesh trip, to be held from June 8-14.

Besides, Chief Selector Dilip Vengsarkar also had to decide on the fate of senior players like Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly.

The two former India skippers were not picked for the last ODI series played by India, the triangular series in Australia that India won for the first time by a comprehensive 2-0 margin over the reigning world champions in this format of the game.

M S Dhoni will lead the team with Yuvraj Singh as his deputy.

Squad: MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan, Piyush Chawla, RP Singh, Praveen Kumar, S Sreesanth, Rohit Sharma, Robin Uthappa, Suresh Raina, Ishant Sharma and Prgyan Ojha.
