Neha woke up. The time was 7am. She made her way, blearily, to the bathroom. She banged at the door.
"Ajay, hurry up!" No answer. She looked at the door. VACANT.
Then she remembered. One night, a figure in their room packing bags, a sorry and then he left. Two years of marriage, failed. Ended with a sorry.
She made her way back to her room and sat down. Alone. No Ajay. No Naveen.
"Naveen. Oh my God," she thought pushing her head back against the head-board. What had she done?
She'd wrecked her own life. Her parents had said. Wrecked it.
Had she? She'd loved one man and married another. One dead and the other left her. As far as they were concerned, that was bad enough but had they known the final truth, I'm sure they would have hated her.
Neha looked at her hand. A finger that should've worn a beautiful, diamond ring but had now had a plain gold band.A wedding ring
Slowly she took it off. She no longer needed it now. Ajay had left two months before. He'd never come back.
He'd left because of her. She'd never neglected him. But to him, she'd failed. There was lacking in the relationship. Of Love, Passion, Feeling. She was indifferent to his advances. So he left. For another woman.
She picked up the phone. She'd phone in to work to say she was ill. After all, love is a sickness.
