Welcome to our short story club. I like the theme, the irony you are driving toward. The voice is very pleasant and unassuming. The story doesn't deliver the punch it should because you have covered a vast time frame in a few paragraphs. I feel that if you had expanded the middle even a few more paragraphs, the ending would have delivered the desired effect. Will look for more from your unique, wise outlook. Welcome again.

Really a different theme.
As a first time writer, I should really appreciate
your story, and the way it is written. But
the story suddenly switched to several decades
after. If it is little more elaborate, it would
be very nice.

Sriks, As others suggested you could have expanded the rolling decades a little more. good work keep it coming.
Aside: The stories in the site are getting much broader mix of themes now compared to just 4 weeks ago.
