Hi!
How does one avoid venn-ponggal ending up hard when it cools down? Could it be coz there's too much paasi paruppu?
Any thoughts...?

It is due to shortage of water. Add a little bit of ghee while cooking it will soften the dal ,even when it cools down.

Shoba,
Try adding a little milk when you mix all the ingredients.

When keeping the rice and dal in the pressure cooker, add ghee or oil to it and a cup more of water than usual. You will get soft venn pongal. U can also try doing it with basmathi rice as it will get cooked very soft.
