Hello everyone,

Does anyone know of a good substitute for coconut and coconut milk in recipes? It is difficult to use coconut milk freely when you know it contains at least 50% saturated fat !!

  yea it is a very serious problem in cold countries. I found those who moved from india and srilakna does not use coconut. rarely they use milk instead of coconut and most of times curries without coconut. First it will be difficult. But they get used to it.

  for all those wondering about the fat content in coconut and still wish to get the taste.....here is the magic "Green Papaya"
  
  i tried papaya in all places i would use coconut/milk and no one can find out.
  
  I am in USA and i cut and freeze the papaya pieces for longer storage.

  Evaporated milk is the best substitute for coconut milk. You may try this for yr cooking. I'm using evaporated milk for most of my cooking like chicken and mutton curry and for others too. 1/4 cup of evaporated milk shall mix with 3/4 of water. U must be careful with the mixing. Too much of evaporated milk will spoiled ur cooking. Have a good try on this.

  Dear folks,
  Try almonds instead of coconut milk.
  Soak about 10 almonds in hot water for about 30 minutes. Then peel the skin. Grind them in a blender adding water. Almonds are good for health and does not have fat. So it is good for people having cholestral too. The taste of the dish using almond paste or milk is also good.
  Try it you will love it.

  In health food store chains like Whole Foods and Trader Joe's you may purchase tins of fatfree coconut milk for under a dollar. This is cheap and easy and healthy. if you need more details, let me know.

  hi, is there any other suggestions for substituting a different item for coconut milk in curry dishes. i have a friend who loves curry, but is actually allergic to coconut milk. he still eats it, but i'm trying to find maybe a less health risk way for him to enjoy curry. thanks for any suggestions :)
