Hello All,
Please give the feedback on the kootu recipe i give below.
1. Grind coconut ( 5 tbspoons) + seeragam ( 1 tbspoon) + 3 chillies (can vary to ur taste)
2. 2 karandi thuvaram paruppu , boiled in cooker
3. boil cabbage / beans / chou chou ..... like vegetables
4. season kadugu, ulutham paruppu, perungayam, mix the boiled vegetables in that
5. Add salt to taste
6. After it boils for 2 mts, add the ground paste prepared in step 1 and allow it to boil for 3 mts, then add the pressure cooked toor dhal in it and cook for 2 mts.
the vegetables can also be a mix with carrots + beans + cabbage + potato in small quanities and it turns out really well.

This sounds like how my friend makes kottu porial and it just tastes good...

Fry in little oil 3-4 redchilly,1/2 tsp pepper,1/2 tsp jiru
1tsp urid dal and grind it to a paste with a fistful of coconut to a fine paste.
Add to any single or boiled mixed vegetablesmixed with little boiled dal.
Add salt.season mustard seeds ,1/2 tsp hing,kadipatta,coriander&serve.

Cabbage kootu :
Lightly fry and grind - half cup grated onions, a teasspoon jeera, a tablespoon dhania seeds, a teaspoon black pepper corns, 8 red chillies, half cup grated coconut, one tespoon turmeric, a small ball of tamarind, a teaspoon of rice.
Chop a small sized cabbage and stir fry till done in 2 teaspoons coconut oil. Add the ground paste and a cup of water and salt and bring to boil. No seasonings required.

Instead of thuvaram paruppu you can use "Pasi Paruppu" alongwith "Murungaikai" which is called by other name " Murungaikai Erisseri" which tastes really nice.

Sugrutha i tried your recipe(cabbage koottu) and it came out very well. I had it with both rice and chappathi and IMO it goes better with chappathi than rice.
