Hi,
We make a type of juice from cantaloupe. I don't know what they call in India(English word). Preparation is very simple. Take the pulp out and mash it. add water, jaggery to taste, little cardamom powder. Juice is ready.
Another type of juice is from a fruit which is called "Belada Hannu" in Kannada. I don't know its english word(Sorry). This has a very hard shell. Inside the shell are pulp with seeds. You don't have to remove the seeds. Use the same instruction as given for cantaloupe juice. We make it during "Rama Navami" - Srirama's Birthday celebration. I don't know if u've already mentioned these recipes in some other name.

Hi Mini,
Could you give the recipe for Khajur(dates) wala milk? There was another drink that is made in my village in Southern Karnataka. It is made from a berry called "Punare puli". I dont know the english name for the berry though.
Thanks,
Ambika

Khajoor(Dates) wala doodh
1 litre milk
400 gm dates(khajoor)
Method: Wash the dates thoroughly. Boil the milk with the dates. Then cover it and let the milk boil again on a low fire, so that the dates may absorb the milk and leave its sweet syrup in the milk. Diabetic patients can drink this milk without sugar because the dates themselves are quite sweet. In winter season you can drink the milk hot and in summer you can drink it cold. It is very tasty in both the forms.
Preparation time:30-35 minutes, For 3-4 persons
Hi Ambika,
The above recipe is from the magazine. I use to make date juice as follows: For 1 cup milk- Soak 5 to 6 dates in water for 2-3 hours. Then clean it and remove the outer skin(if they are hard) and seeds. Blend milk, dates and sugar(if needed) using a mixie. This is also very tasty.
