Hi,
Recently I have started finding small brown insects in some powders, like coriander powder, yesterday I found them in dried red chilli also.
The containers were vacuum selaed, so that means they are growing in the masales.
Can any one please suggest me what I can do?

Hello Arthi,
When you buy packed powders, please check manufacturing date.
This is because, in USA, I have found Indian Grocers selling very old Masalas, pickles which are three years old and passing off highly adultrated Haldi powder mixed with 90 percent colour.
When you find such insects in masalas, try asking the shop keeper to accept it back and refund the amount.
If not possible, please heat the masalas on low heat on direct heat in a kadai. Don't use OTG .
This will kill eggs/larve of insects.

buy in small quantity and keep it in the fridge. Put small amount in containers for day to day use.
I have 2 fridge and use one for keeping all masalas in this manner. This will keep fresh for 6 to 8 months.

Yes Hemantji, I have noticed that all the insects are from the spices bought from Indian store only.
If I heat them on low heat, the eggs will get killed but how can I take the egss out?
I too keep some masalas in my freezer, but my freezer is a little small.

i would advise that you spend a day to clean out your kitchen. throw out all the powders that have the insects... wash the containers (in heated dry mode if u have dish washer.. or try to dry them in the sun). refill the containers with new powders, and make sure they are airtight. also make sure you dont keep things like onions, potatoes in the same shelf.

Help! small worms inside perfect looking cashews..
Can I dry them in sun & then use, 'cos I purchased it only 2 days ago? What is the best way to store such nuts/dried fruits etc.?

you should be able to dry the cashews in the sun and reuse. you could also try putting them in the oven for about 10 min (around 300-350F). then spread them on a sheet of paper.. and pick the good cashews and store in an air tight box. if you have large quantities of nuts keep them in the freezer.
