I recently bought Lima beans (scientific name - Valore Lilva) frozen packet from Indian store here - the pictures on the cover looked like raw mocchai kottai (seeds of avarakai). I cooked them but the taste is different - it doesn't taste like mocchai. Can anyone guide me more on this item?

  Lima Beans are definitely not Mocchai Kottai. I have been trying to find Mocchai for sometime now...no luck. Sorry.

  As a substitute for raw mocchai, you can soak and use the dry mocchai that is available in the Indian market. You can purchase avarakai and peel and use the seeds inside for your recipies and still use the skins for making porial, etc.

  Valore Liva is not Mocchu kottai.It is Avarakkai Kottai.
  Mocchu is not available in USA.
  So you will hv to use a substitute , which is Valore Lilva.

  Lima beans id tuvar lilva. You will find it in the frozen section in the indian grocery. You need to thaw, take the outer covering before proceeding with this in recipes
