Anyone, Please let me know how to make COCONUT (Thengai) burfi.
I do want to know the method where I will have to make sugar syrup with 1-2 thread consistencies. Is there any other method that anyone knows for the same ?

Ingredients
===========
Grated coconut - of half a coconut
Sugar - 2 glasses
water - 2 glasses
cardamom - for taste
Ghee - 2 tablespoon
Method
======
Boil water with sugar in a thick vessel and wait till the sugar attains a thread like consistency. You can test this by dipping a spoon into the solution and trying to raise it. If the solution also rises up with the spoon like a thread, then the consistency is OK. Now, add the grated coconut and a tablespoon of ghee. Now, cover using a lid. Stir occasionally. After 10-15 minutes, the burfy will be ready. Now, add enough cardamom (powdered) for taste. Now turn the burner off. Grease a plate using ghee and put the burfi into it. Press using a spoon and cut. Allow to cool. The burfy is now ready

Hello Preeti, the burfi which I know grated coconut(fresh)-1cup,rawa-1/4cup,sugar-2cups,ghee-1/4cup,water-1/4cup,cardamom and kesari colour.Roast rawa and coconut in a pan separately in medium heat.Put roasted rawa and coconut in a blender make dry powder separately .Boil sugar and water in a heavy bottomed pan till it comes to that two thread consistency ,mix rawa and coconut and add them to the syrup and also add ghee to it.when it starts leaving the sides add color and cardamom.Grease a plate with ghee and pour it on it.Leave it for 15 mins and cut into slices when it is warm.If U want U can spread dry nuts over the Burfy .I think you may like it.

Hi Hemant,
Please read the method given by Devi above. She asks to prepare sugar syrup in 2 thread consistency. I do not know how to prepare sugar syrup in 2 thread consistency. When I try to make sugar syrup, i end up hetaing it too much and sugar recrystallizes. Ha Ha! I think I am the one who does not know who 2 make sugar syrup.
So I wanted to know if there was anyother method for making cocnut burfi, without having to make sugar syrup with one or 2 thread consistencies.
Thanks a lot

Hi from Canada!
I once tried a recipe for burfi that used condensed milk and I think pistachos. I lost it and have been looking ever since. My husband would be in seventh heaven if I were to make it again.
Can you help?

Method.
Combine ingredients(A) in a kadai and cook,stirring constantly, over a very low fire until sugar dissolves completely.
Stir in grated coconut and food colouring and cook until almost dry, about 30 minutes.Add essence and butter mix well to blend.
Grease a tray lightly with butter,and fill the tray with the coconut burfi.Press burfi down firmly with a clean piece of plastic wrap,then set aside to cool slightly.
Turn burfi out and cut into neat slices,before it dries completely and hardens.Allow to cool completely before placing in clean air-tight jars.
